- Results are presented from the first cometary observations using the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA), including measurements of the spatially resolved distributions of HCN, HNC, H_2_CO, and dust within the comae of two comets: C/2012 F6 (Lemmon) and C/2012 S1 (ISON), observed at heliocentric distances of 1.5 AU and 0.54 AU, respectively. These observations (with angular resolution ~0.5"), reveal an unprecedented level of detail in the distributions of these fundamental cometary molecules, and demonstrate the power of ALMA for quantitative measurements of the distributions of molecules and dust in the inner comae of typical bright comets. In both comets, HCN is found to originate from (or within a few hundred kilometers of) the nucleus, with a spatial distribution largely consistent with spherically symmetric, uniform outflow. By contrast, the HNC distributions are clumpy and asymmetrical, with peaks at cometocentric radii ~500-1000km, consistent with release of HNC in collimated outflow(s). Compared to HCN, the H_2_ CO distribution in comet Lemmon is very extended. The interferometric visibility amplitudes are consistent with coma production of H_2_CO and HNC from unidentified precursor material(s) in both comets. Adopting a Haser model, the H_2_CO parent scale length is found to be a few thousand kilometers in Lemmon and only a few hundred kilometers in ISON, consistent with the destruction of the precursor by photolysis or thermal degradation at a rate that scales in proportion to the solar radiation flux.

- Debris discs have often been described as gas-poor discs as the gas-to-dust ratio is expected to be considerably lower than in primordial, protoplanetary discs. However, recent observations have confirmed the presence of a non-negligible amount of cold gas in the circumstellar (CS) debris discs around young main-sequence stars. This cold gas has been suggested to be related to the outgassing of planetesimals and cometary-like objects. The goal of this paper is to investigate the presence of hot gas in the immediate surroundings of the cold-gas-bearing debris-disc central stars. High-resolution optical spectra of all currently known cold-gas-bearing debris-disc systems, with the exception of beta Pic and Fomalhaut, have been obtained from La Palma (Spain), La Silla (Chile), and La Luz (Mexico) observatories. To verify the presence of hot gas around the sample of stars, we have analysed the CaII H&K and the NaI D lines searching for non-photospheric absorptions of CS origin, usually attributed to cometary-like activity.

- We present a multi-wavelength study of comet C/2016 R2 (PanSTARRS). This comet was observed on 23-24 January 2018 with the IRAM 30m telescope, and in January to March 2018 with the Nancay radio telescope. Visible spectroscopy was performed in December 2017 and February 2018 with small amateur telescopes. We report on measurements of CO, CH_3_OH, H_2_CO and HCN production rates, and on the determination of the N2/CO abundance ratio. Several other species, especially OH, were searched for but not detected. The inferred relative abundances, including upper limits for sulfur species, are compared to those measured in other comets at about the same heliocentric distance of ~2.8AU. The coma composition of comet C/2016 R2 is very different from all other comets observed so far, being rich in N2 and CO and dust poor. This suggests that this comet might belong to a very rare group of comets formed beyond the N_2_ ice line. Alternatively, comet C/2016 R2 (PanSTARRS) could be the fragment of a large and differentiated transneptunian object, with properties characteristic of volatile-enriched layers.

- We present the results of a molecular survey of comet 46P/Wirtanen undertaken with the IRAM 30-m and NOEMA radio telescopes in December 2018. Observations at IRAM 30-m during the 12-18 Dec. period comprise a 2mm spectral survey, which covers 25GHz, and a 1mm survey which covers 62GHz. The gas outflow velocity and kinetic temperature have been accurately constrained by the observations. We derive abundances of 11 molecules, some being identified remotely for the first time in a Jupiter-family comet, including complex organic molecules such as formamide, ethylene glycol, acetaldehyde or ethanol. Sensitive upper limits on the abundances of 24 other molecules are obtained. The comet is found to be relatively rich in methanol (3.4% relative to water) but relatively depleted in CO, CS, HNC, HNCO or HCOOH.

- While exoplanets are now routinely detected, the detection of small bodies in extrasolar systems remains challenging. Since the discovery of sporadic events, which are interpreted to be exocomets (falling evaporating bodies) around beta Pic in the early 1980s, Monly 20 stars have been reported to host exocomet-like events. We aim to expand the sample of known exocomet-host stars, as well as to monitor the hot-gas environment around stars with previously known exocometary activity. We have obtained high-resolution optical spectra of a heterogeneous sample of 117 main-sequence stars in the spectral type range from B8 to G8. The data were collected in 14 observing campaigns over the course of two years from both hemispheres. We analysed the CaII K&H and NaI D lines in order to search for non-photospheric absorptions that originated in the circumstellar environment and for variable events that could be caused by the outgassing of exocomet-like bodies. We detected non-photospheric absorptions towards 50% of the sample, thus attributing a circumstellar origin to half of the detections (i.e. 26% of the sample). Hot circumstellar gas was detected in the metallic lines inspected via narrow stable absorptions and/or variable blue- and red-shifted absorption events. Such variable events were found in 18 stars in the CaII and/or NaI lines; six of them are reported in the context of this work for the first time. In some cases, the variations we report in the CaII K line are similar to those observed in beta^L Pic. While we do not find a significant trend in the age or location of the stars, we do find that the probability of finding CS gas in stars with larger vsini is higher. We also find a weak trend with the presence of near-infrared excess and with anomalous (lambda Boo-like) abundances, but this would require confirmation by expanding the sample.

- The main purpose of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) was to survey the sky in four infrared wavelength bands centered at 12, 25, 60 and 100 um. Data for 25 comets, 1811 known asteroids and ~TBD asteroids without orbits were obtained and accepted into this IRAS asteroid and comet catalog, which is the largest, least biased and most uniform survey of asteroids and comets. For the IRAS Asteroid Survey, 7,015 sightings from 1,811 individual asteroids that were of sufficient quality have been accepted into the asteroid catalog. Diameters, albedos and various technical parameters have been derived for these minor planet. The IRAS comet catalog contains the detection history for each comet reliably detected in the ADAS search. Positions were searched for all periodic comets that passed near the sun or earth during the period from 1982 to 1985 plus all comets that were observed during that period.

- The populations of small bodies of the Solar System (asteroids, comets, Kuiper-Belt objects) are used to constrain the origin and evolution of the Solar System. Both their orbital distribution and composition distribution are required to track the dynamical pathway from their regions of formation to their current locations. We aim at increasing the sample of Solar System objects that have multi-filter photometry and compositional taxonomy. We search for moving objects in the archive of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We attempt at maximizing the number of detections by using loose constraints on the extraction. We then apply a suite of filters to remove false-positive detections (stars or galaxies) and mark out spurious photometry and astrometry. We release a catalog of 1542522 entries, consisting of 1036322 observations of 379714 known and unique SSOs together with 506200 observations of moving sources not linked with any known SSOs. The catalog completeness is estimated to be about 95% and the purity to be above 95% for known SSOs.

- We present the results of millimetre-wave spectroscopic observations and spectral surveys of the following short-period comets: 21P/Giacobini-Zinner in September 2018, 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresak in April 2017, 64P/Swift-Gehrels and 38P/Stephan-Oterma in December 2018, carried out with the IRAM 30-m radio telescope at wavelengths between 1 and 3~mm. Comet 21P was also observed in November 1998 with the IRAM 30-m, JCMT and CSO radio telescopes at wavelengths from 0.8 to 3~mm. The abundances of the following molecules have been determined in those comets: HCN, CH_3_OH, CS, H_2_CO, CH_3_CN and H_2_S in comet 21P, HCN and CH_3_OH in 41P, HCN, CH_3_OH and CS in 64P, and CH_3_OH in 38P. The three last comets, classified as carbon-chain typical from visible spectro-photometry, are relatively rich in methanol (3.5 to 5% relative to water). On the other hand, comet 21P, classified as carbon-chain depleted, shows abundances relative to water which are low for methanol (1.7%), very low for H2S (0.1%) and also relatively low for H2CO (0.16%) and CO (<2.5%). Observations of comet 21P do not show any change in activity and composition between the 1998 and 2018 perihelions. Sensitive upper limits on the abundances of other molecules such as CO, HNCO, HNC or SO are also reported for these comets.

- Stellar encounters with long-period comets

- The Solar system's Oort cloud can be perturbed by the Galactic tide and by individual passing stars. These perturbations can inject Oort cloud objects into the inner parts of the Solar system, where they may be observed as the long-period comets (periods longer than 200yr). Using dynamical simulations of the Oort cloud under the perturbing effects of the tide and 61 known stellar encounters, we investigate the link between long-period comets and encounters. We find that past encounters were responsible for injecting at least 5 percent of the currently known long-period comets. This is a lower limit due to the incompleteness of known encounters. Although the Galactic tide seems to play the dominant role in producing the observed long-period comets, the non-uniform longitude distribution of the cometary perihelia suggests the existence of strong - but as yet unidentified - stellar encounters or other impulses. The strongest individual future and past encounters are probably HIP 89825 (Gliese 710) and HIP 14473, which contribute at most 8 and 6 percent to the total flux of long-period comets, respectively. Our results show that the strength of an encounter can be approximated well by a simple proxy, which will be convenient for quickly identifying significant encounters in large data sets. Our analysis also indicates a smaller population of the Oort cloud than is usually assumed, which would bring the mass of the solar nebula into line with planet formation theories.
