- We present a sample of Cepheid variable stars towards M31 based on the first year of regular M31 observations of the PS1 survey in the r_P1 and i_P1 filters. We describe the selection procedure for Cepheid variable stars from the overall variable source sample and develop an automatic classification scheme using Fourier decomposition and the location of the instability strip. We find 1440 fundamental mode (classical {delta}) Cep stars, 126 Cepheids in the first overtone mode, and 147 belonging to the Population II types. 296 Cepheids could not be assigned to one of these classes and 354 Cepheids were found in other surveys. These 2009 Cepheids constitute the largest Cepheid sample in M31 known so far and the full catalog is presented in this paper. We briefly describe the properties of our sample in its spatial distribution throughout the M31 galaxy, in its age properties, and we derive an apparent period-luminosity relation (PLR) in our two bands. The Population I Cepheids nicely follow the dust pattern of the M31 disk, whereas the 147 Type II Cepheids are distributed throughout the halo of M31. We outline the time evolution of the star formation in the major ring found previously and find an age gradient. A comparison of our PLR to previous results indicates a curvature term in the PLR.

- This study presents the final source catalog of the Chandra ACIS Survey of M33 (ChASeM33). With a total exposure time of 1.4Ms, ChASeM33 covers ~70% of the D_25_ isophote (R~4.0kpc) of M33 and provides the deepest, most complete, and detailed look at a spiral galaxy in X-rays. The source catalog includes 662 sources, reaches a limiting unabsorbed luminosity of ~2.4x10^34^erg/s in the 0.35-8.0keV energy band, and contains source positions, source net counts, fluxes and significances in several energy bands, and information on source variability. To constrain the nature of the detected X-ray source, hardness ratios were constructed and spectra were fit for 254 sources, follow-up MMT spectra of 116 sources were acquired, and cross-correlations with previous X-ray catalogs and other multi-wavelength data were generated. Based on this effort, 183 of the 662 ChASeM33 sources could be identified. Finally, the luminosity function (LF) for the detected point sources as well as the one for the X-ray binaries (XRBs) in M33 is presented. The resulting distribution is consistent with a dominant population of high-mass XRBs as would be expected for M33.

- We present the compilation and properties of a meta-catalogue of X-ray detected clusters of galaxies, the MCXC. This very large catalogue is based on publicly available ROSAT All Sky Survey-based (NORAS, REFLEX, BCS, SGP, NEP, MACS, and CIZA) and serendipitous (160SD, 400SD, SHARC, WARPS, and EMSS) cluster catalogues. Data have been systematically homogenised to an overdensity of 500, and duplicate entries from overlaps between the survey areas of the individual input catalogues are carefully handled. The MCXC comprises 1743 clusters with virtually no duplicate entries. For each cluster the MCXC provides three identifiers, a redshift, coordinates, membership in the original catalogue, and standardised 0.1-2.4keV band luminosity L_500_, total mass M_500_, and radius R_500_. The meta-catalogue additionally furnishes information on overlaps between the input catalogues and the luminosity ratios when measurements from different surveys are available, and gives notes on individual objects.

- The catalogue MEGA-H is a result of a merging of star lists from the catalogue of stellar proper motions with respect to galaxies in 47 selected areas near the Main Meridional Section of the Galaxy (MEGA-G) (Kharchenko 1987) and from All-sky Compiled Catalogue of 2.5 Million Stars (ASCC-2.5) (Cat. <I/280>). Proper motions from the catalogue MEGA-G were reduced to the Hipparcos system by means of common with the ASCC-2.5 stars. The compiled proper motions in the Hipparcos system and their standard errors were computed as the weighted means. Equatorial coordinates are reduced to the equinox J2000 and epoch 1991.25. The catalogue MEGA-H contains 18169 stars. Stars are sorted in right ascension J2000 order.

- We have performed a survey for new members of the Ophiuchus cloud complex using high-precision astrometry from the second data release of Gaia, proper motions measured with multi-epoch images from the Spitzer Space Telescope, and color-magnitude diagrams constructed with photometry from various sources. Through spectroscopy of candidates selected with those data, we have identified 155 new young stars. Based on available measurements of kinematics, we classify 102, 47, and 6 of those stars as members of Ophiuchus, Upper Sco, and other populations in Sco-Cen, respectively. We have also assessed the membership of all other stars in the vicinity of Ophiuchus that have spectroscopic evidence of youth from previous studies, arriving at a catalog of 373 adopted members of the cloud complex. For those adopted members, we have compiled mid-infrared photometry from Spitzer and the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer and have used mid-infrared colors to identify and classify circumstellar disks. We find that 210 of the members show evidence of disks, including 48 disks that are in advanced stages of evolution. Finally, we have estimated the relative median ages of the populations near the Ophiuchus clouds and the surrounding Upper Sco association using absolute K-band magnitudes (MK) based on Gaia parallaxes. If we adopt an age 10Myr for Upper Sco, then the relative values of MK imply median ages of ~2Myr for L1689 and embedded stars in L1688, 3-4Myr for low-extinction stars near L1688, and ~6Myr for the group containing {rho}Oph.

- We cross-match high-precision astrometric data from Gaia DR2 with accurate multiband photometry from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) DR1 to confidently measure proper motions for nine stellar streams in the DES footprint: Aliqa Uma, ATLAS, Chenab, Elqui, Indus, Jhelum, Phoenix, Tucana III, and Turranburra. We determine low-confidence proper-motion measurements for four additional stellar streams: Ravi, Wambelong, Willka Yaku, and Turbio. We find evidence for a misalignment between stream tracks and the systemic proper motion of streams that may suggest a systematic gravitational influence from the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). These proper motions, when combined with radial velocity measurements, will allow for detailed orbit modeling that can be used to constrain properties of the LMC and its effect on nearby streams, as well as global properties of the Milky Way's gravitational potential.

- The photometric and astrometric measurements of the Pleiades DANCe DR2 survey provide an excellent test case for the benchmarking of statistical tools aiming at the disentanglement and characterisation of nearby young open cluster (NYOC) stellar populations. We aim to develop,test, and characterise of a new statistical tool (intelligent system) for the sifting and analysis of NYOC populations. Using a Bayesian formalism, with this statistical tool we were able to obtain the posterior distributions of parameters governing the cluster model. It also used hierarchical bayesian models to establish weakly informative priors, and incorporates the treatment of missing values and non-homogeneous (heteroscedastic) observational uncertainties. From simulations, we estimated that this statistical tool renders kinematic (proper motion) and photometric (luminosity) distributions of the cluster population with a contamination rate of 5.8+/-0.2%. The luminosity distributions and present day mass function agree with the ones found in a recent study, on the completeness interval of the survey. At the probability threshold of maximum accuracy, the classifier recovers ~90% of the recently published candidate members and finds 10% of new ones. A new statistical tool for the analysis of NYOC is introduced, tested, and characterised. Its comprehensive modelling of the data properties allows it to get rid of the biases present in previous works. In particular, those resulting from the use of only completely observed (non-missing) data and the assumption of homoskedastic uncertainties. Also, its Bayesian framework allows it to properly propagate observational uncertainties into membership probabilities and cluster velocity and luminosity distributions. Our results are in a general agreement with those from the literature, although we provide the most up-to-date and extended list of candidate members of the Pleiades cluster.

- We present new deep UBVRI images and high-resolution multi-object optical spectroscopy of the young (~6-10Myr old), relatively nearby (800pc) open cluster IC 2395. We identify nearly 300 cluster members and use the photometry to estimate their spectral types, which extend from early B to middle M. We also present an infrared imaging survey of the central region using the IRAC and MIPS instruments on board the Spitzer Space Telescope, covering the wavelength range from 3.6 to 24{mu}m. Our infrared observations allow us to detect dust in circumstellar disks originating over a typical range of radii from ~0.1 to ~10 au from the central star. We identify 18 Class II, 8 transitional disk, and 23 debris disk candidates, respectively, 6.5%, 2.9%, and 8.3% of the cluster members with appropriate data. We apply the same criteria for transitional disk identification to 19 other stellar clusters and associations spanning ages from ~1 to ~18Myr. We find that the number of disks in the transitional phase as a fraction of the total with strong 24{mu}m excesses ([8]-[24]>=1.5) increases from (8.4+/-1.3)% at ~3Myr to (46+/-5)% at ~10Myr. Alternative definitions of transitional disks will yield different percentages but should show the same trend.

- The oxygen abundance gradients among nebular emission line regions in spiral galaxies have been used as important constraints for models of chemical evolution. We present the largest-ever full-wavelength optical spectroscopic sample of emission line nebulae in a spiral galaxy (M31). We have collected spectra of 253 HII regions and 407 planetary nebulae (PNe) with the Hectospec multi-fiber spectrograph of the MMT. We measure the line-of-sight extinction for 199 HII regions and 333 PNe; we derive oxygen abundance directly, based on the electron temperature, for 51 PNe; and we use strong-line methods to estimate oxygen abundance for 192 HII regions and nitrogen abundance for 52 HII regions. The relatively shallow oxygen abundance gradient of the more extended HII regions in our sample is generally in agreement with the result of Zaritsky et al. (1994ApJ...420...87Z), based on only 19 M31 HII regions, but varies with the strong-line diagnostic employed. Our large sample size demonstrates that there is significant intrinsic scatter around this abundance gradient, as much as ~3 times the systematic uncertainty in the strong-line diagnostics. The intrinsic scatter is similar in the nitrogen abundances, although the gradient is significantly steeper. On small scales (deprojected distance <0.5kpc), HII regions exhibit local variations in oxygen abundance that are larger than 0.3dex in 33% of neighboring pairs. We do not identify a significant oxygen abundance gradient among PNe, but we do find a significant gradient in the [NII] ratio that varies systematically with surface brightness. Our results underscore the complex and inhomogeneous nature of the interstellar medium of M31, and our data set illustrates systematic effects relevant to future studies of the metallicity gradients in nearby spiral galaxies.
