- Intermediate resolution spectra at the CaII triplet have been obtained for 55 candidate red giants in the field of the globular cluster M22 with the VLT/FORS2 instrument. Spectra were also obtained for a number of red giants in standard globular clusters to provide a calibration of the observed line strengths with overall abundance [Fe/H]. For the 41 M22 member stars that lie within the V-V_HB_ bounds of the calibration, we find an abundance distribution that is substantially broader than that expected from the observed errors alone. We argue that this broad distribution cannot be the result of differential reddening. Instead, we conclude that, as has long been suspected, M22 is similar to {omega} Cen in having an intrinsic dispersion in heavy element abundance. The observed M22 abundance distribution rises sharply to a peak at [Fe/H]~-1.9 with a broad tail to higher abundances: the highest abundance star in our sample has [Fe/H] ~-1.45dex. If the unusual properties of {omega} Cen have their origin in a scenario in which the cluster is the remnant nucleus of a disrupted dwarf galaxy, then such a scenario likely also applies to M22.

- In this paper, we present a detailed high-resolution spectroscopic study of post main sequence stars in the globular cluster (GC) M68. Our sample, which covers a range of 4000K in T_eff_, and 3.5dex in log(g), is comprised of members from the red giant, red horizontal, and blue horizontal branch, making this the first high-resolution GC study covering such a large evolutionary and parameter space. Initially, atmospheric parameters were determined using photometric as well as spectroscopic methods, both of which resulted in unphysical and unexpected T_eff_, log(g), {xi}_t_, and [Fe/H] combinations. We therefore developed a hybrid approach that addresses most of these problems, and yields atmospheric parameters that agree well with other measurements in the literature. Furthermore, our derived stellar metallicities are consistent across all evolutionary stages, with <[Fe/H]>=-2.42 ({sigma}=0.14) from 25 stars. Chemical abundances obtained using our methodology also agree with previous studies and bear all the hallmarks of GCs, such as a Na-O anti-correlation, constant Ca abundances, and mild r-process enrichment.

- We present the chemical abundance analysis of 33 red giant stars belonging to the complex stellar system Terzan 5. We confirm the discovery of two stellar populations with distinct iron abundances: a relatively metal-poor component with [Fe/H]=-0.25+/-0.07rms and another component with [Fe/H]=+0.27+/-0.04rms, exceeding in metallicity any known Galactic globular cluster (GC). The two populations also show different [{alpha}/Fe] abundance ratios. The metal-poor component has an average [{alpha}/Fe]=+0.34+/-0.06rms, consistent with the canonical scenario for rapid enrichment by core collapse supernovae (SNe). The metal-rich component has [{alpha}/Fe]=+0.03+/-0.04rms, suggesting that the gas from which it formed was polluted by both type II and type Ia SNe on a longer timescale. Neither of the two populations shows evidence of the [Al/Fe] over [O/Fe] anti-correlation that is typically observed in Galactic GCs. Because these chemical abundance patterns are unique, we propose that Terzan 5 is not a true GC, but a stellar system with a much more complex history of star formation and chemical enrichment.

- We use Fabry-Perot absorption line imaging spectroscopy to measure radial velocities using the CaII line in 3360 stars toward three lines of sight in the Milky Way's bar: Baade's Window and offset position at (l,b)~(+/-5.0,-3.5{deg}). This sample includes 2488 bar red clump giants, 339 bar M/K-giants, and 318 disk main-sequence stars. We measure the first four moments of the stellar velocity distribution of the red clump giants, and find it to be symmetric and flat-topped. We also measure the line-of-sight average velocity and dispersion of the red clump giants as a function of distance in the bar.

- We present a catalog of 417 luminous infrared variable stars with periods exceeding 250 days. These were identified in 20 nearby galaxies by the ongoing SPitzer InfraRed Intensive Transients Survey survey with the Spitzer Space Telescope. Of these, 359 variables have M_[4.5]_ (phase-weighted mean magnitudes) fainter than -12 and periods and luminosities consistent with previously reported variables in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). However, 58 variables are more luminous than M_[4.5]_=-12, including 11 that are brighter than M_[4.5]_=-13, with the brightest having M_[4.5]_=-15.51. Most of these bright variable sources have quasi-periods longer than 1000 days, including four over 2000 days. We suggest that the fundamental period-luminosity relationship, previously measured for the LMC, extends to much higher luminosities and longer periods in this large galaxy sample. We posit that these variables include massive asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars (possibly super-AGB stars), red supergiants experiencing exceptionally high mass-loss rates, and interacting binaries. We also present 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8.0{mu}m photometric catalogs for all sources in these 20 galaxies.

- We present a photometric catalogue of seven selected fields towards the Galactic bulge, observed with the IRAC and MIPS imaging instruments on-board the Spitzer Space Telescope with unprecedented sensitivity. The locations of the fields are defined in Figure 1 and Table 1 of the paper. In each of the fields, tens of thousands of point sources were detected. The catalogue is split up into seven tables, according to the different fields. Table 5 in the paper gives ten lines of the band-merged catalogue of the Bulge N1 field as an example. In the first paper based on this data set, we present the observations, data reduction, the final catalogue of sources, and a detailed comparison to previous mid-IR surveys of the Galactic bulge, as well as to theoretical isochrones. We find in general good agreement with other surveys and the isochrones, supporting the high quality of our catalogue. Besides a catalogue for each field, fits files of the IRAC and MIPS mosaics are presented, too. As a cautionary note for the users, we would like to add that the least reliable sources in our catalogue are those with detection in only one IRAC band and no MIPS detection, and with (i) either no 2MASS and DENIS counterpart (depending on the field, between 3.1% and 6.7% of the sources), or (ii) a DENIS and 2MASS counterpart at a distance between 1.6 and 3 arcseconds (depending on the field, between 0.4% and 1.0% of the sources).

- We present the third and final part of a census of asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in Local Group dwarf irregular (dIrr) galaxies. Papers I (Jackson et al. 2007ApJ...656..818J) and II (Jackson et al. 2007ApJ...667..891J) presented the results for WLM and IC 1613. Included here are Phoenix, LGS 3, DDO 210, Leo A, Pegasus dIrr, and Sextans A. Spitzer photometry at 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8um are presented, along with a more thorough treatment of background galaxy contamination than was presented in Papers I and II. We find that at least a small population of completely optically obscured AGB stars exists in each galaxy, regardless of the galaxy's metallicity, but that higher metallicity galaxies tend to harbor more stars with slight infrared excesses.

- We aim to measure the metallicity distribution and velocity distribution of red giant branch (RGB) stars along the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy (Sgr) streams. Thanks to the large number of stars of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) sample, we can study the properties of streams as a function of the {LAMBDA}s from the Sgr core. Using the ~22000 RGB stars from the ninth data release of SDSS, we selected 1100 RGB stars belonging to the streams of the Sgr. As compared with red horizontal branch stars (Shi et al., 2012, Cat. J/ApJ/751/130) the RGB stars constitute a large sample size and extend to a metal-poor component of [Fe/H]~-3.0dex. In particular, this RGB sample has a significant number of stars in the second wrap of the leading stream of the Sgr (leading arm 2), and thus provides a good opportunity to understand the properties of the leading stream.

- The question of the existence of active and prominent tidal disruption around various Galactic dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies remains controversial. That debate often centers on the nature (bound vs. unbound) of extended populations of stars claimed to lie outside the bounds of single King profiles fitted to the density distributions of dSph centers. However, the more fundamental issue of the very existence of the previously reported extended populations is still contentious. We present a critical evaluation of the debate centering on one particular dSph, Carina, for which claims both for and against the existence of stars beyond the King limiting radius have been made.
