- We perform a semi-automated search for strong gravitational lensing systems in the 9000 deg2 Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECaLS), part of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Legacy Imaging Surveys. The combination of the depth and breadth of these surveys are unparalleled at this time, making them particularly suitable for discovering new strong gravitational lensing systems. We adopt the deep residual neural network architecture developed by Lanusse+ (2018MNRAS.473.3895L) for the purpose of finding strong lenses in photometric surveys. We compile a training sample that consists of known lensing systems in the Legacy Surveys and the Dark Energy Survey as well as non-lenses in the footprint of DECaLS. In this paper we show the results of applying our trained neural network to the cutout images centered on galaxies typed as ellipticals in DECaLS. The images that receive the highest scores (probabilities) are visually inspected and ranked. Here we present 335 candidate strong lensing systems, identified for the first time.

- We present a structural analysis of nearby galaxies in spiral-spiral pairs in optical BVRI bands and compare them with the structures of isolated spiral galaxies and galaxies in ongoing mergers. We use these comparisons to determine how galaxy structure changes during galaxy interactions and mergers. We analyze light concentration (C), asymmetry (A), and clumpiness (S) parameters, and use the projections of CAS parameter space to compare these samples.

- Establishing a correlation (or lack thereof) between the bimodal color distribution of galaxies and their structural parameters is crucial to understand the origin of bimodality. To achieve that, we have performed a 2D mass-based structural decomposition (bulge+disk) of all disk galaxies (total=1263) in the Herschel imaging area of the Stripe 82 region using Ks-band images from the VICS82 survey. The scaling relations thus derived are found to reflect the internal kinematics and are employed in combination to select an indubitable set of classical- and pseudo-bulge-hosting disk galaxies. The rest of the galaxies (<20%) are marked as disks with "ambiguous" bulges. Pseudo- and classical bulge-disk galaxies exhibit clear bimodality in terms of all stellar parameters (M*, specific star formation rate, r-Ks). All pseudo- bulge-disk galaxies are blue and star forming, and all classical bulge-disk galaxies are red and quiescent with less than 5% digressions. Ambiguous bulge- disk galaxies are intermediate to pseudo- and classical bulge-disk galaxies in the distribution of all structural and stellar parameters. {Delta}<{mu}_eb_>-based on the placement of bulges on the Kormendy relation-is found to be the most efficient single structural indicator of both bulge type and stellar activity. The placement of ambiguous bulge-disk galaxies on scaling relations and the fundamental plane, in addition to their peculiar stellar properties, suggests that they are dominantly part of the green valley.

- We construct a SCUBA-2 450{mu}m map in the COSMOS field that covers an area of 300arcmin^2^ and reaches a 1{sigma} noise level of 0.65mJy in the deepest region. We extract 256 sources detected at 450{mu}m with signal-to-noise ratios >4.0 and analyze the physical properties of their multiwavelength counterparts. We find that most of the sources are at z<~3, with a median of z=1.79_-0.15_^+0.03^%. About 35_-25_^+32^% of our sources are classified as starburst galaxies based on their total star formation rates (SFRs) and stellar masses (M_*_). By fitting the far-infrared spectral energy distributions, we find that our 450{mu}m selected sample has a wide range of dust temperatures (20K<~T_d_<~60K), with a median of T_d_=38.3_-0.9_^+0.4^K. We do not find a redshift evolution in dust temperature for sources with L_IR_>10^12^L_{sun}_ at z<3. However, we find a moderate correlation where the dust temperature increases with the deviation from the SFR-M_*_ relation. The increase in dust temperature also correlates with optical morphology, which is consistent with merger-triggered starbursts in submillimeter galaxies. Our galaxies do not show the tight IRX-{beta}_UV_ correlation that has been observed in the local universe. We construct the infrared luminosity functions of our 450{mu}m sources and measure their comoving SFR densities (SFRDs). The contribution of the L_IR_>10^12^L_{sun}_ population to the SFRD rises dramatically from z=0 to 2 ({propto}(1+z)^3.9+/-1.1^) and dominates the total SFRD at z>~2.

- From the cross-correlation of the IRAS FSC catalog with the radio FIRST catalog, 230 infrared galaxies were selected having optical classifications and redshifts from SDSS and NED. To understand the nature of these objects we have compared them with a sample of bright ULIRGs with fluxes f>1Jy at 60-micron and with 14 optically faint IRAS FSC galaxies, showing that IRAS galaxies are not always strong infrared sources. We also have calibrated Star Formation Rates based on luminosities of the PAH feature at 7.7-micron and 1.4GHz radio flux densities, which confirmed the consistency between these two SFRs. We have estimated the extinction for our 230 objects using SFRs calibrated from the PAH feature compared to ultraviolet flux, which shows that only 1% of the ultraviolet continuum typically escapes extinction by dust within a starburst. As our 230 galaxies have no spectra available from Spitzer Space Telescope (SST) archive, to estimate the infrared flux at 7.7 (for SB galaxies) or 8.0 (for AGN and composite) micron, we have used the median ratios of the IRAS fluxes at 25-micron to fluxes at 7.7 or 8.0-micron estimated for each 41.0<logL(IR)<41.9, 42.0<logL(IR)<42.9, 43.0<logL(IR)<43.9, 44.0<logL(IR)<44.9, and 45.0<logL(IR)<45.9 luminosity bins, using objects having spectra from SST archive.

- We have identified a new class of Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars in the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds (SMC/LMC) using optical to infrared photometry, light curves, and optical spectroscopy. The strong dust production and long-period pulsations of these stars indicate that they are at the very end of their AGB evolution. Period-mass-radius relations for the fundamental-mode pulsators give median current stellar masses of 1.14M_{sun}_ in the LMC and 0.94M_{sun}_ in the SMC (with dispersions of 0.21 and 0.18M_{sun}_, respectively), and models suggest initial masses of <1.5M_{sun}_ and <1.25 M_{sun}_, respectively. This new class of stars includes both O-rich and C-rich chemistries, placing the limit where dredge-up allows carbon star production below these masses. A high fraction of the brightest among them should show S star characteristics indicative of atmospheric C/O~1, and many will form O-rich dust prior to their C-rich phase. These stars can be separated from their less-evolved counterparts by their characteristically red J-[8] colors.

- We present the first subarcsecond-resolution mid-infrared (MIR) atlas of local active galactic nuclei (AGN). Our atlas contains 253 AGN with a median redshift of z=0.016, and includes all publicly available MIR imaging performed to date with ground-based 8-m class telescopes, a total of 895 independent measurements. Of these, more than 60% are published here for the first time. We detect extended nuclear emission in at least 21% of the objects, while another 19% appear clearly point-like, and the remaining objects cannot be constrained. Where present, elongated nuclear emission aligns with the ionization cones in Seyferts. Subarcsecond resolution allows us to isolate the AGN emission on scales of a few tens of parsecs and to obtain nuclear photometry in multiple filters for the objects. Median spectral energy distributions (SEDs) for the different optical AGN types are constructed and individual MIR 12 and 18um continuum luminosities are computed. These range over more than six orders of magnitude. In comparison to the arcsecond-scale MIR emission as probed by Spitzer, the continuum emission is much lower on subarcsecond scales in many cases. The silicate feature strength is similar on both scales and generally appears in emission (absorption) in type I (II) AGN. However, the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emission appears weaker or absent on subarcsecond scales. The differences of the MIR SEDs on both scales are particularly large for AGN/starburst composites and close-by (and weak) AGN. The nucleus dominates over the total emission of the galaxy only at luminosities >~10^44^erg/s. The AGN MIR atlas is well suited not only for detailed investigation of individual sources but also for statistical studies of AGN unification.

- We find a new substellar companion to the Pleiades member star, Pleiades HII 3441, using the Subaru telescope with adaptive optics. The discovery is made as part of the high-contrast imaging survey to search for planetary-mass and substellar companions in the Pleiades and young moving groups. The companion has a projected separation of 0.49+/-0.02 (66+/-2au) and a mass of 68+/-5MJ based on three observations in the J-, H-, and Ks-bands. The spectral type is estimated to be M7 (~2700K), and thus no methane absorption is detected in the H band. Our Pleiades observations result in the detection of two substellar companions including one previously reported among 20 observed Pleiades stars, and indicate that the fraction of substellar companions in the Pleiades is about 10.0^+26.1^_-8.8_%. This is consistent with multiplicity studies of both the Pleiades stars and other open clusters.

- We present a catalog of ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in the Coma cluster. UDGs are a subset of low surface brightness (SB) galaxies with very large effective radii defined by van Dokkum et al. (2015ApJ...798L..45V). We surveyed the Subaru data archive for deep Suprime-Cam/Subaru R-band images, and used data covering the 1.7x2.7{deg} region of the Coma cluster. The data are ~1 magnitude deeper than the data of van Dokkum et al. in limiting SB. This paper explains the details of our sample selection procedure. This UDG catalog includes positions, magnitudes, effective radii, mean and central SBs, and colors (when available). Comparisons with previous galaxy catalogs in the literature are performed, and we show that the current catalog is the largest for UDGs. We also discuss that most of the UDGs are members of the Coma cluster, and the major axis of the UDGs tends to align toward the cluster center (radial alignment).

- We present a spectroscopic analysis of nearly 8000 late-type dwarfs in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Using the H{alpha} emission line as an activity indicator, we investigate the fraction of active stars as a function of spectral type and find a peak near type M8, confirming previous results.
