- We present UBVRI photometry of the open cluster NGC 2422 (age~10^8^yr) down to a limiting magnitude V=~19. These data are used to derive the Luminosity and Mass Functions and to study the cluster spatial distribution. By considering the color-magnitude diagram data and adopting a representative cluster main sequence, we obtained a list of candidate cluster members based on a photometric criterion.

- We present an optical and near-infrared catalog for the X-ray sources in the 2Ms Chandra observation of the Hubble Deep Field North region. We have high-quality multicolor imaging data for all 503 X-ray point sources in the X-ray-selected catalog and reliable spectroscopic redshifts for 284. We spectroscopically identify six high-redshift (z>1) type II quasars (L_2-8keV_>10^44^ergs/s) in our sample. Our spectroscopic completeness for the R<=24 sources is 87%. The spectroscopic redshift distribution shows two broad redshift spikes that have clearly grown over those originally seen in the 1Ms exposure. The spectroscopically identified extragalactic sources already comprise 75% of the measured 2-8keV light. Redshift slices versus 2-8keV flux show that an impressive 54% of the measured 2-8keV light arises from sources at z<1 and 68% from sources at z<2.

- Using extended multicolour CCD photometry of the triple-mode radial pulsator V823 Cas we studied the properties of the coupling frequencies invoked by nonlinear processes. Our results support that a resonance connection affects the mode coupling behaviour. The P1/P0 period ratio of V823 Cas has an "out of range" value if compared with the period ratios of the known double mode pulsators, while the P2/P1 period ratio is normal. The periods and period ratios cannot be consistently interpreted without conflict with pulsation and/or evolution models. We describe this failure with the suggestion that at present, the periods of V823 Cas are in a transient, resonance affected state, thus do not reflect the true parameters of the object. The anomalous period change behaviour of the fundamental and second overtone modes supports this idea. We have also raised the possibility that a f0+f2=2f1 resonance may act in triple mode pulsators.

- We report on the results of an i-band time-series photometric survey of NGC2516 using the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) 4-m Blanco telescope and 8k Mosaic-II detector, achieving better than 1 per cent photometric precision per data point over 15<~i<~19. Candidate cluster members were selected from a V versus V-I colour-magnitude diagram over 16<V<26 (covering masses from 0.7M_{sun}_ down to below the brown dwarf limit), finding 1685 candidates, of which we expect ~1000 to be real cluster members, taking into account contamination from the field (which is most severe at the extremes of our mass range). Searching for periodic variations in these gave 362 detections over the mass range 0.15<~M/M_{sun}_<~0.7. The rotation period distributions were found to show a remarkable morphology as a function of mass, with the fastest rotators bounded by P>0.25d, and the slowest rotators for M<~0.5M_{sun}_ bounded by a line of P~M3, with those for M>~0.5M_{sun}_ following a flatter relation closer to P ~ constant. Models of the rotational evolution were investigated, finding that the evolution of the fastest rotators was well reproduced by a conventional solid body model with a mass-dependent saturation velocity, whereas core-envelope decoupling was needed to reproduce the evolution of the slowest rotators. None of our models were able to simultaneously reproduce the behaviour of both populations.

Candidate cluster members were selected from a V versus V-I colour-magnitude diagram over 12.5<V<24 (covering masses from 0.9M_{sun}_ down to below the brown dwarf limit), finding 800 candidates, of which we expect ~330 to be real cluster members, taking into account contamination from the field (which is most severe at the extremes of our mass range). Searching for periodic variations in these gave 176 detections over the mass range 0.1~<M/M_{sun}_<0.9.

- In this paper, new Cousins VRI data are presented for NGC 752 and Praesepe, and new and extant data are combined into an augmented database for M67. For those three clusters, catalogs containing Cousins VRI photometry, reddening-corrected values of (V-K)J, and temperatures are produced. The same is done for Coma by using both previously published and newly derived Cousins photometry. An extant set of catalogs for the Hyades is updated to include V magnitudes and values of (R-I)C that were published after the original catalogs appeared. Finally, M67 V magnitudes published previously by Sandquist are corrected for an effect that depends on location on the face of the cluster. The corrected data and values of (V-I)C given by Sandquist are then set out in a supplementary catalog.

- Astrometric CCD observations have been made of wide (~3 to 60 arcsec) southern double stars selected from the Washington Double Star catalogue (WDS). Southern double stars have not been well studied in the past; typically they had not been measured since about 1930, and ~50% of them have been observed only once before our observations. Of the pairs measured ~80% show no evidence of motion since the last observation. This is Paper II in which we present the observations of 290 WDS stars in the approximate RA range 17h13m to 07h30m and in the declination range -70{deg} to -60{deg}. We suggest 412 companions for these 290 stars and list 29 (10%) pairs that have shown significant motion.
