- HI kinematic asymmetries are common in late-type galaxies irrespective of environment, although the amplitudes are strikingly low in isolated galaxies. As part of our studies of the HI morphology and kinematics in isolated late-type galaxies we have chosen several very isolated galaxies from the AMIGA sample for HI mapping. We present here the results of HI mapping of CIG 340 (IC 2487) which was selected because its integrated HI spectrum has a very symmetric profile (A_flux_=1.03+/-0.02). Optical images of the galaxy hinted at a warped disk in contrast to the symmetric integrated HI spectrum profile. Our aim is to determine the extent to which the optical asymmetry is reflected in the resolved HI morphology and kinematics. Resolved 21-cm HI line mapping has been carried out using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The HI morphology and kinematics from this mapping together with other multi-wavelength data have been used to study the relationship between the HI and stellar components of CIG 340.

- This paper presents 452 new 21-cm neutral hydrogen line measurements carried out with the FORT receiver of the meridian transit Nancay radiotelescope (NRT) in the period April 2003-March 2005. This observational programme is part of a larger project aiming at collecting an exhaustive and magnitude-complete HI extragalactic catalogue for Tully-Fisher applications (the so-called KLUN project, for Kinematics of the Local Universe studies, end in 2008). The whole on-line HI archive of the NRT contains today reduced HI-profiles for ~4500 spiral galaxies of declination delta >-40{deg} (http://klun.obs-nancay.fr). As an example of application, we use direct Tully-Fisher relation in three (JHK) bands in deriving distances to a large catalog of 3126 spiral galaxies distributed through the whole sky and sampling well the radial velocity range between 0 and 8000km/s. Thanks to an iterative method accounting for selection bias and smoothing effects, we show as a preliminary output a detailed and original map of the velocity field in the Local Universe.

- The Westerbork Radio Synthesis Telescope, WSRT, has been used to make a deep radio survey of an ~1.7degree^2^ field coinciding with the AKARI north ecliptic pole deep field. The observations, data reduction and source count analysis are presented, along with a description of the overall scientific objectives. The survey consisted of 10 pointings, mosaiced with enough overlap to maintain a similar sensitivity across the central region that reached as low as 21uJy/beam at 1.4GHz.

- We have commenced a multiyear program, the Caltech-NRAO Stripe 82 Survey (CNSS), to search for radio transients with the Jansky VLA in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Stripe 82 region. The CNSS will deliver five epochs over the entire ~270deg^2^ of Stripe 82, an eventual deep combined map with an rms noise of ~40{mu}Jy and catalogs at a frequency of 3 GHz, and having a spatial resolution of 3". This first paper presents the results from an initial pilot survey of a 50deg^2^ region of Stripe 82, involving four epochs spanning logarithmic timescales between 1 week and 1.5yr, with the combined map having a median rms noise of 35{mu}Jy. This pilot survey enabled the development of the hardware and software for rapid data processing, as well as transient detection and follow-up, necessary for the full 270deg^2^ survey. Data editing, calibration, imaging, source extraction, cataloging, and transient identification were completed in a semi-automated fashion within 6 hr of completion of each epoch of observations, using dedicated computational hardware at the NRAO in Socorro and custom-developed data reduction and transient detection pipelines. Classification of variable and transient sources relied heavily on the wealth of multiwavelength legacy survey data in the Stripe 82 region, supplemented by repeated mapping of the region by the Palomar Transient Factory. A total of 3.9_-0.9_^+0.5^% of the few thousand detected point sources were found to vary by greater than 30%, consistent with similar studies at 1.4 and 5 GHz. Multiwavelength photometric data and light curves suggest that the variability is mostly due to shock-induced flaring in the jets of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Although this was only a pilot survey, we detected two bona fide transients, associated with an RS CVn binary and a dKe star. Comparison with existing legacy survey data (FIRST, VLA-Stripe 82) revealed additional highly variable and transient sources on timescales between 5 and 20yr, largely associated with renewed AGN activity. The rates of such AGNs possibly imply episodes of enhanced accretion and jet activity occurring once every ~40,000yr in these galaxies. We compile the revised radio transient rates and make recommendations for future transient surveys and joint radio-optical experiments.

- Voids are the most under-dense large-scale regions in the Universe. Galaxies inhabiting voids are one of the keys to understand the intrinsic processes of galaxy evolution, as external factors such as multiple galaxy mergers or a dense self-collapsing environment are negligible. We present the first molecular gas mass survey of void galaxies. We compare these new data, together with data for the atomic gas mass (MHI) and star formation rate (SFR) from the literature to those of galaxies in filaments and walls in order to better understand how molecular gas and star formation are related to the large-scale environment. We observed at the IRAM 30-m telescope the CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) emission of 20 void galaxies selected from the VoidGalaxy Survey (VGS), with a stellar mass range from 108.5to 1010.3M. We detected 15 objects in at least one CO line. We compare the molecular gas mass (MH2), the star formation efficiency (SFE=SFR/MH2), the atomic gas mass, the molecular-to-atomic gas-mass ratio, and the specific star formation rate (sSFR) of the void galaxies with two control samples of galaxies in filaments and walls,selected from xCOLD GASS and EDGE-CALIFA, for different stellar mass bins and taking the star formation activity into account. In general, we do not find any significant differences between void galaxies and the control sample. In particular, we do not find any evidence for a difference in the molecular gas mass or molecular gas mass fraction. Also for the other parameters (SFE,atomic gas mass, molecular-to-atomic gas mass ratio, and sSFR) we find similar (within the errors) mean values between void, and filament and wall galaxies when limiting the sample to star-forming galaxies. We find no evidence for an enhanced sSFR in void galaxies. Some tentative differences emerge when studying trends with stellar mass: The SFE of void galaxies might be lower than in filament and wall galaxies for low stellar masses, and there might be a trend of increasing deficiency in the HI content in void galaxies compared to galaxies in filaments and walls for higher stellar masses, accompanied by an increase in the molecular-to-atomic gas-mass ratio. However, all trends with stellar mass are based on a low number of galaxies and need to be confirmed for a larger sample. The results for the molecular gas mass for a sample of 20 voids galaxies allowed us, for the first time, to make a statistical comparison to galaxies in filaments and walls. We do not find any significant differences of the molecular gas properties and the SFE, but we note that a larger sample is necessary to confirm this and be sensitive to subtle trends.

- We present new ^12^CO(1-0) observations of 59 late-type galaxies belonging to the Herschel Reference Survey (HRS), a complete K-band-selected, volume-limited (15<=D<=25Mpc) sample of nearby galaxies spanning a wide range in morphological type and luminosity. We studied different recipes to correct single-beam observations of nearby galaxies of different sizes and inclinations for aperture effects. This was done by comparing single-beam and multiple-beam observations along the major axis, which were corrected for aperture effects using different empirical or analytical prescriptions, to integrated maps of several nearby galaxies, including edge-on systems observed by different surveys. The resulting recipe is an analytical function determined by assuming that late-type galaxies are 3D exponentially declining discs with a characteristic scale length r_CO_=0.2r_24.5_, where r_24.5_ is the optical, g- (or B-) band isophotal radius at the 24.5mag/arcsec^2^ (25mag/arcsec^2^), as well as a scale height z_CO_=1/100r_24.5_. Our new CO data are then combined with those available in the literature to produce the most updated catalogue of CO observations for the HRS, now including 225 out of the 322 galaxies of the complete sample. The 3D exponential disc integration is applied to all the galaxies of the sample to measure their total CO fluxes, which are later transformed into molecular gas masses using a constant and a luminosity-dependent X_CO_ conversion factor. We also collect HI data for 315 HRS galaxies from the literature and present it in a homogenised form.

- After new observations of 39 galaxies at z=0.6-1.0 obtained at the IRAM 30m telescope, we present our full CO line survey covering the redshift range 0.2<z<1. Our aim is to determine the driving factors accounting for the steep decline in the star formation rate during this epoch. We study both the gas fraction, defined as Mgas/(Mgas+Mstar), and the star formation efficiency (SFE) defined by the ratio between far-infrared luminosity and molecular gas mass (L_FIR_/M(H_2_), i.e. a measure for the inverse of the gas depletion time. The sources are selected to be ultra-luminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs), with L_FIR_ greater than 10^12^L_{sun}_, and experiencing starbursts. When we adopt a standard ULIRG CO-to-H_2_ conversion factor, their molecular gas depletion time is less than 100Myr. Our full survey has now filled the gap of CO observations in the 0.2<z<1 range covering almost half of cosmic history. The detection rate in the 0.6<z<1 interval is 38% (15 galaxies out of 39), compared to 60% for the 0.2<z<0.6 interval. The average CO luminosity is L'_CO_=1.8x10^10^K.km/s.pc^2^, corresponding to an average H_2_ mass of 1.45x10^10^M_{sun}_. From observation of 7 galaxies in both CO(2-1) and CO(4-3), a high gas excitation has been derived; together with the dust mass estimation, this supports the choice of our low ULIRG conversion factor between CO luminosity and H_2_ for our sample sources. We find that both the gas fraction and the SFE significantly increase with redshift, by factors of 3+/-1 from z=0 to 1, and therefore both quantities play an important role and complement each other in cosmic star formation evolution.

- Submillimetre galaxies (SMGs) are distant, dusty galaxies undergoing star formation at prodigious rates. Recently there has been major progress in understanding the nature of the bright SMGs (i.e. S_850um_>5mJy). The samples for the fainter SMGs are small and are currently in a phase of being built up through identification studies. We study the molecular gas content in the two SMGs, SMMJ163555 and SMMJ163541, at redshifts z=1.034 and z=3.187 with unlensed submillimetre fluxes of 0.4mJy and 6.0mJy. Both SMGs are gravitationally lensed by the foreground cluster Abell 2218. We used the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer to obtain observations at 3mm of the lines CO(2-1) for SMMJ163555 and CO(3-2) for SMMJ163541. Additionally, we obtained CO(4-3) observations for the candidate z=4.048 SMMJ163556 with an unlensed submillimetre flux of 2.7mJy. Results: The CO(2-1) line was detected for SMMJ163555 at redshift 1.0313 with an integrated line intensity of 1.2+/-0.2Jy.km/s and a line width of 410+/-120km/s. From this a gas mass of 1.6x10^9^M_{sun}_ is derived and a star formation efficiency of 440L_{sun}_/M_{sun}_ estimated. The CO(3-2) line was detected for SMMJ163541 at redshift 3.1824, possibly with a second component at redshift 3.1883, with an integrated line intensity of 1.0+/-0.1Jy.km/s and a line width of 280+/-50km/s. From this a gas mass of 2.2x10^10^M_{sun}_ is derived and a star formation efficiency of 1000L_{sun}_/M_{sun}_ is estimated. For SMMJ163556, the CO(4-3) is undetected within the redshift range 4.035-4.082 down to a sensitivity of 0.15Jy.km/s.

- We present Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array CO(3-2) observations at 0.3" resolution of He 2-10, a starburst dwarf galaxy and possible high-z galaxy analog. The warm dense gas traced by CO(3-2) is found in clumpy filaments that are kinematically and spatially distinct. The filaments have no preferred orientation or direction; this may indicate that the galaxy is not evolving into a disk galaxy. Filaments appear to be feeding the active starburst; the velocity field in one filament suggests acceleration onto an embedded star cluster. The relative strengths of CO(3-2) and radio continuum vary strongly on decaparsec scales in the starburst. There is no CO(3-2) clump coincident with the nonthermal radio source that has been suggested to be an AGN, nor unusual kinematics. The kinematics of the molecular gas show significant activity that is apparently unrelated to the current starburst. The longest filament, east of the starburst, has a pronounced shear of FWHM ~40km/s across its ~50pc width over its entire ~0.5kpc length. The cause of the shear is not clear. This filament is close in projection to a "dynamically distinct" CO feature previously seen in CO(1-0). The most complex region and the most highly disturbed gas velocities are in a region 200pc south of the starburst. The CO(3-2) emission there reveals a molecular outflow, of line width FWZI~120-140km/s, requiring an energy >~10^53^erg/s. There is at present no candidate for the driving source of this outflow.

- We have used the Very Large Array to search for compact milliarcsecond-size radio sources near methanol masers in high-mass star-forming regions. Such sources are required for very long baseline Interferometry phase-referencing observations. We conducted pointed observations of 234 compact sources found in the NVSS survey and find 92 sources with unresolved components and synchrotron spectral indexes. These sources are likely the cores of AGNs and, thus, are good candidates for astrometric calibrators.
