- We present the full data set of the VIsible Multi-Object Spectrograph (VIMOS) spectroscopic campaign of the ESO/GOODS program in the Chandra Deep Field South (CDFS), which complements the FORS2 ESO/GOODS spectroscopic campaign. The ESO/GOODS spectroscopic programs are aimed at reaching signal-to-noise ratios adequate to measure redshifts for galaxies with AB magnitudes in the range ~24-25 in the B and R band using VIMOS, and in the z band using FORS2.

- We present the analysis and results of a new VRI photometric and spectroscopic survey of the central ~1.8x1.2Mpc^2^ region of the galaxy cluster A3921 (z=0.094). We detect the presence of two dominant clumps of galaxies with a mass ratio of ~5: a main cluster centred on the Brightest Cluster Galaxy (BCG) (A3921-A), and an NW sub-cluster (A3921-B) hosting the second brightest cluster galaxy. The distorted morphology of the two sub-clusters suggests that they are interacting, while the velocity distribution of 104 confirmed cluster members does not reveal strong signatures of merging.

- We report on the environmental dependence of properties of galaxies around the RDCSJ0910+54 cluster at z=1.1. We obtained multi-band wide-field images of the cluster with Suprime-Cam and MOIRCS on Subaru and WFCAM on UKIRT. Also, an intensive spectroscopic campaign was carried out using LRIS on Keck and FOCAS on Subaru. We collected 161 spectra with secure redshifts, with which we calibrated a larger sample of photometric redshifts.

- Using new spectroscopic observations obtained as part of the VIMOS Ultra-Deep Survey (VUDS), we performed a systematic search for overdense environments in the early universe (z>2) and report here on the discovery of Cl J0227-0421, a massive protocluster at z=3.29. This protocluster is characterized by both the large overdensity of spectroscopically confirmed members, delta_gal=10.5+/-2.8, and a significant overdensity in photometric redshift members. The halo mass of this protocluster is estimated by a variety of methods to be ~3x10^14^M_{sun}_ at z~3.3, which, evolved to z=0 results in a halo mass rivaling or exceeding that of the Coma cluster. The properties of 19 spectroscopically confirmed member galaxies are compared with a large sample of VUDS/VVDS galaxies in lower density field environments at similar redshifts. We find tentative evidence for an excess of redder, brighter, and more massive galaxies within the confines of the protocluster relative to the field population, which suggests that we may be observing the beginning of environmentally induced quenching. The properties of these galaxies are investigated, including a discussion of the brightest protocluster galaxy, which appears to be undergoing vigorous coeval nuclear and starburst activity. The remaining member galaxies appear to have characteristics that are largely similar to the field population. Though we find weaker evidence of the suppression of the median star formation rates among and differences in the stacked spectra of member galaxies with respect to the field, we defer any conclusions about these trends to future work with the ensemble of protostructures that are found in the full VUDS sample.

- We report the discovery of 31 low-luminosity (-14.5>~M_AB_(B)>~-18.8), extreme emission line galaxies (EELGs) at 0.2<~z<~0.9 identified by their unusually high rest-frame equivalent widths (100<=EW[OIII]<=1700{AA}) as part of the VIMOS Ultra Deep Survey (VUDS). VIMOS optical spectra of unprecedented sensitivity (I_AB_~25mag) along with multiwavelength photometry and HST imaging are used to investigate spectrophotometric properties of this unique sample and to explore, for the first time, the very low stellar mass end (M_*_<~10^8^M_{sun}_) of the luminosity-metallicity (LZR) and mass-metallicity (MZR) relations at z<1. Characterized by their extreme compactness (R_50_<1kpc), low stellar mass and enhanced specific star formation rates (sSFR=SFR/M_*_~10^-9^-10^-7^yr^-1^), the VUDS EELGs are blue dwarf galaxies likely experiencing the first stages of a vigorous galaxy-wide starburst. Using Te-sensitive direct and strong-line methods, we find that VUDS EELGs are low-metallicity (7.5<~12+log(O/H)<~8.3) galaxies with high ionization conditions (log(q_ion_)>~8cm/s), including at least three EELGs showing HeII{lambda}4686{AA} emission and four extremely metal-poor (<~10% solar) galaxies. The LZR and MZR followed by VUDS EELGs show relatively large scatter, being broadly consistent with the extrapolation toward low luminosity and mass from previous studies at similar redshift. However, we find evidence that galaxies with younger and more vigorous star formation --as characterized by their larger EWs, ionization and sSFR-- tend to be more metal poor at a given stellar mass.

- We present the analysis of the faint galaxy population in the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) Early Release Observation fields VV 29 (UGC 10214) and NGC 4676. These observations cover a total area of 26.3arcmin^2^ and have depths close to that of the Hubble Deep Fields in the deepest part of the VV 29 image, with 10{sigma} detection limits for point sources of 27.8, 27.6, and 27.2 AB magnitudes in the g_F475W_, V_F606W_, and I_F814W_ bands, respectively.

- We use observations made with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) to probe the neutral hydrogen (HI) gas content of field galaxies in the VIMOS VLT Deep Survey (VVDS) 14h field at z~=0.32. Because the HI emission from individual galaxies is too faint to detect at this redshift, we use an HI spectral stacking technique using the known optical positions and redshifts of the 165 galaxies in our sample to co-add their HI spectra and thus obtain the average HI mass of the galaxies. Stacked HI measurements of 165 galaxies show that >~95 per cent of the neutral gas is found in blue, star-forming galaxies. Among these galaxies, those having lower stellar mass are more gas rich than more massive ones. We apply a volume correction to our HI measurement to evaluate the HI gas density at z~=0.32 as {OMETA}_HI_=(0.50+/-0.18)x10^-3^ in units of the cosmic critical density. This value is in good agreement with previous results at z<0.4, suggesting no evolution in the neutral hydrogen gas density over the last ~4Gyr. However the z~=0.32 gas density is lower than that at z~5 by at least a factor of two.

- We present the galaxy cluster catalog from the second, larger phase of the Wide Angle ROSAT Pointed Survey (WARPS), an X-ray selected survey for high-redshift galaxy clusters. WARPS is among the largest deep X-ray cluster surveys and is being used to study the properties and evolution of galaxy clusters. The WARPS-II sample contains 125 clusters serendipitously detected in a survey of 301 ROSAT PSPC pointed observations and covers a sky area of 56.7deg^2^. Of these 125 clusters, 53 have not been previously reported in the literature. We have nearly complete spectroscopic follow-up of the clusters, which range in redshift from z=0.029 to z=0.92 with a median redshift of z=0.29 and find 59 clusters with z>=0.3 (29 not previously reported in the literature) and 11 clusters with z>=0.6 (6 not previously reported). We also define a statistically complete subsample of 102 clusters above a uniform flux limit of 6.5x10^-14^ergs/cm^2^/s (0.5-2.0keV). Here we provide the cluster catalog and finder charts consisting of X-ray overlays on optical CCD images. We also compare our redshifts, fluxes, and detection methods to other similar published cluster surveys and find no serious issues with our measurements or completeness.

- We present a sample of 34 weak metal line absorbers at z<0.3 selected by the simultaneous >3{sigma} detections of the SiII{lambda}1260 and CII{lambda}1334 absorption lines, with W_r_(SiII)<0.2 {AA} and W_r_(CII)<0.3{AA}, in archival HST/COS spectra. Our sample increases the number of known low-z 'weak absorbers' by a factor of >5. The column densities of HI and low-ionization metal lines obtained from Voigt profile fitting are used to build simple photoionization models. The inferred densities and line-of-sight thicknesses of the absorbers are in the ranges of -3.3<logn_H_/cm^-3^<-2.4 and ~1pc-50kpc (median ~=500pc), respectively. Most importantly, 85 per cent (50 per cent) of these absorbers show a metallicity of [Si/H]>-1.0(0.0). The fraction of systems showing near-/supersolar metallicity in our sample is significantly higher than in the HI-selected sample of Wotta et al., and the galaxy-selected sample of Prochaska et al., of absorbers probing the circum-galactic medium at similar redshift. A search for galaxies has revealed a significant galaxy-overdensity around these weak absorbers compared to random positions with a median impact parameter of 166 kpc from the nearest galaxy. Moreover, we find the presence of multiple galaxies in ~=80 per cent of the cases, suggesting group environments. The observed dN/dz of 0.8+/-0.2 indicates that such metal-enriched, compact, dense structures are ubiquitous in the haloes of low-z group galaxies. We suggest that these are transient structures that are related to galactic outflows and/or stripping of metal-rich gas from galaxies.

- We present physical properties of radio galaxies (RGs) with f_1.4GHz_>1mJy discovered by Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) and Very Large Array Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-Centimeters (FIRST) survey. For 1056 FIRST RGs at 0<z<=1.7 with HSC counterparts in about 100deg^2^, we compiled multi-wavelength data of optical, near-infrared (IR), mid-IR, far-IR, and radio (150MHz). We derived their color excess (E(B-V)_*_), stellar mass, star formation rate (SFR), IR luminosity, the ratio of IR and radio luminosity (q_IR_), and radio spectral index ({alpha}_radio_) that are derived from the spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting with CIGALE. We also estimated Eddington ratio based on stellar mass and integration of the best-fit SEDs of active galactic nucleus (AGN) component. We found that E(B-V)_*_, SFR, and IR luminosity clearly depend on redshift while stellar mass, q_IR_, and {alpha}_radio_ do not significantly depend on redshift. Since optically faint (i_AB_>=21.3) RGs that are newly discovered by our RG survey tend to be high redshift, they tend to not only have a large dust extinction and low stellar mass but also have high SFR and AGN luminosity, high IR luminosity, and high Eddington ratio compared with optically bright ones. The physical properties of a fraction of RGs in our sample seem to differ from a classical view of RGs with massive stellar mass, low SFR, and low Eddington ratio, demonstrating that our RG survey with HSC and FIRST provides us curious RGs among entire RG population.
