- We present new Spitzer Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) photometry of 12 very late-type T dwarfs: nine have [3.6], [4.5], [5.8], and [8.0] photometry and three have [3.6] and [4.5] photometry only. Combining this with previously published photometry, we investigate trends with type and color that are useful for both the planning and interpretation of infrared surveys designed to discover the coldest T or Y dwarfs. The online appendix provides a collation of MKO-system YJHKL'M' and IRAC photometry for a sample of M, L, and T dwarfs. There are 12 dwarfs currently known with H-[4.5]>3.0, and 500K<~T_eff_<~800K, which we examine in detail. The ages of the dwarfs in the sample range from very young (0.1-1.0Gyr) to relatively old (3-12Gyr). The mass range is possibly as low as 5 Jupiter masses to up to 70 Jupiter masses, i.e., near the hydrogen burning limit. The metallicities also span a large range, from [m/H]=-0.3 to [m/H]=+0.3.

- Previous studies of planet occurrence rates largely relied on photometric stellar characterizations. In this paper, we present planet occurrence rates for mid-type M dwarfs using spectroscopy, parallaxes, and photometry to determine stellar characteristics. Our spectroscopic observations have allowed us to constrain spectral type, temperatures, and, in some cases, metallicities for 337 out of 561 probable mid-type M dwarfs in the primary Kepler field. We use a random forest classifier to assign a spectral type to the remaining 224 stars. Combining our data with Gaia parallaxes, we compute precise (~3%) stellar radii and masses, which we use to update planet parameters and occurrence rates for Kepler mid-type M dwarfs. Within the Kepler field, there are seven M3 V to M5 V stars that host 13 confirmed planets between 0.5 and 2.5 Earth radii and at orbital periods between 0.5 and 10 days. For this population, we compute a planet occurrence rate of 1.19_-0.49_^+0.70^ planets per star. For M3 V, M4 V, and M5 V, we compute planet occurrence rates of 0.86_-0.68_^+1.32^, 1.36_-1.02_^+2.30^, and 3.07_-2.49_^+5.49^ planets per star, respectively.

- Based on an extensive spectral study of a photometrically confirmed sample of Mira variables, we find a relationship between the relative Balmer emission-line strengths and spectral temperatures of O-rich Mira stars. The F_H{delta}_/F_H{gamma}_ flux ratio increases from less than unity to five as stars cool down from M0 to M10, which is likely driven by increasing TiO absorption above the deepest shock-emitting regions. We also discuss the relationship between the equivalent widths of the Balmer emission lines and the photometric luminosity phase of our Mira sample stars. Using our 291 Mira spectra as templates for reference, 191 Mira candidates are newly identified from the LAMOST DR4 catalog. We summarize the criteria adopted to select Mira candidates based on emission-line indices and molecular absorption bands. This enlarged spectral sample of Mira variables has the potential to contribute significantly to our knowledge of the optical properties of Mira stars and will facilitate further studies of these late-type, long-period variables.

- The catalog is a compilation of MK spectral types published in the paper, "The kinematics of the Gould Belt: An Expanding Group?" (Rountree Lesh 1968). Spectral types were determined for 464 stars of Henry Draper type B5 and earlier, brighter than 6.5 visual magnitude and higher than -20 degrees in declination. The spectra were classified by the author using plates taken with the Yerkes 40-inch refractor and MK spectrograph. The catalog contains HR, HD numbers, MK types with temperature classes, subclasses, luminosity classes and peculiarities, and remarks.

The catalogue provides a list of 963 standard stars, with their spectral type, luminosity, equatorial coordinates, magnitudes, colour index (B-V), and references. The magnitude and colours were taken from Mermillod (1986) UBV Photoelectric Photometry Catalogue (catalog <II/122>). - We combine optical, near-infrared, and mid-infrared spectra and photometry to construct expanded spectral energy distributions for 145 field age (>500 Myr) and 53 young (lower age estimate <500 Myr) ultracool dwarfs (M6-T9). This range of spectral types includes very low mass stars, brown dwarfs, and planetary mass objects, providing fundamental parameters across both the hydrogen and deuterium burning minimum masses for the largest sample assembled to date. A subsample of 29 objects have well constrained ages as probable members of a nearby young moving group. We use 182 parallaxes and 16 kinematic distances to determine precise bolometric luminosities (L_bol_) and radius estimates from evolutionary models give semi-empirical effective temperatures (T_eff_) for the full range of young and field age late-M, L, and T dwarfs. We construct age-sensitive relationships of luminosity, temperature, and absolute magnitude as functions of spectral type and absolute magnitude to disentangle the effects of degenerate physical parameters such as T_eff_, surface gravity, and clouds on spectral morphology. We report bolometric corrections in J for both field age and young objects and find differences of up to a magnitude for late-L dwarfs. Our correction in Ks shows a larger dispersion but not necessarily a different relationship for young and field age sequences. We also characterize the NIR-MIR reddening of low gravity L dwarfs and identify a systematically cooler T_eff_ of up to 300 K from field age objects of the same spectral type and 400 K cooler from field age objects of the same M_H_ magnitude.

- As they evolve, white dwarfs undergo major changes in surface composition, a phenomenon known as spectral evolution. In particular, some stars enter the cooling sequence with helium atmospheres (type DO) but eventually develop hydrogen atmospheres (type DA), most likely through the upward diffusion of residual hydrogen. Our empirical knowledge of this process remains scarce: the fractions of white dwarfs that are born helium rich and that experience the DO-to-DA transformation are poorly constrained. We tackle this issue by performing a detailed model-atmosphere investigation of 1806 hot (Teff>=30000K) white dwarfs observed spectroscopically by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We first introduce our new generations of model atmospheres and theoretical cooling tracks, both appropriate for hot white dwarfs. We then present our spectroscopic analysis, from which we determine the atmospheric and stellar parameters of our sample objects. We find that ~24% of white dwarfs begin their degenerate life as DO stars, among which ~2/3 later become DA stars. We also infer that the DO-to-DA transition occurs at substantially different temperatures (75000K>Teff>30000K) for different objects, implying a broad range of hydrogen content within the DO population. Furthermore, we identify 127 hybrid white dwarfs, including 31 showing evidence of chemical stratification, and we discuss how these stars fit in our understanding of the spectral evolution. Finally, we uncover significant problems in the spectroscopic mass scale of very hot (Teff>60000K) white dwarfs.

- The results of a spectral classification of 257 M stars observed in the Cepheus region are given. Their equatorial coordinates, photographic stellar magnitudes, and spectral subtypes were determined. These stars are giants and supergiants, in all probability. None of them appear in a catalog of variable stars. It is assumed that variability might be detected in many of them upon further study. Fifty-two of the stars have been identified with infrared sources. In addition to the originally published data, magnitudes, positions, cross-identifications and notes have been added in May 2002. - We performed a statistical study of magnetic activities of M-type stars by combining the spectra of LAMOST DR5 with light curves from the Kepler and K2 missions. We mainly want to study the relationship between chromospheric activity and flares, and their relations of magnetic activity and rotation period. We have obtained the maximum catalog of 516688 M-type stellar spectra of 480912 M stars from LAMOST-DR5 and calculated their equivalent widths of chromospheric activity indicators (H{alpha}, H{beta}, H{gamma}, H{delta}, CaII H&K, and HeI D3). Using the H{alpha} indicator, 40464 spectra of 38417 M stars show chromospheric activity, and 1791 of these 5499 M-type stars with repeated observations have H{alpha} variability. We used an automatic detection plus visual inspection method to detect 17432 flares on 8964 M-type stars from the catalog by cross-matching LAMOST DR5 and the Kepler and K2 databases. We used the Lomb-Scargle method to calculate their rotation periods. We find that the flare frequency is consistent with the ratio of activities of these chromospheric activity indicators as a function of spectral type in M0-M3. We find the equivalent widths of H{alpha} and CaII H have a significant statistical correlation with the flare amplitude in M-type stars. We confirm that the stellar flare is affected by both the stellar magnetic activity and the rotation period. Finally, using the H{alpha} equivalent width equal to 0.75{AA} and using the rotation period equal to 10 days as the threshold for the M-type stellar flare time frequency are almost equivalent.
