- Updated cat. of extended objects in Magellanic clouds

- Description:
- We present a catalog of star clusters, associations, and related extended objects in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and the Magellanic Bridge with 2741 entries, a factor 2 more than a previous version from a decade ago. Literature data up until 2018 December are included. The identification of star clusters was carried out with digital atlases in various bands currently available in the Digitized Sky Survey (DSS) and the Machine Automatique a Mesurer pour l'Astronomie (MAMA) imaging surveys. In particular, we cross-identified recent cluster samples from the Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) near-infrared YJKs survey of the Magellanic System (VMC; Rubele+, 2015, J/MNRAS/449/639), Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment IV (OGLE IV; Sitek+ 2017, J/AcA/67/363), and Survey of the MAgellanic Stellar History (SMASH; Piatti 2017ApJ...834L..14P) surveys, confirming new clusters and pointing out equivalencies. A major contribution of the present catalog consists of the accurate central positions for clusters and small associations, including a new sample of 45 clusters or candidates in the SMC and 19 in the Magellanic Bridge, as well as a compilation of the most reliable age and metallicity values from the literature. A general catalog must also deal with the recent discoveries of 27 faint and ultra-faint star clusters and galaxies projected on the far surroundings of the Clouds, most of them from the Dark Energy Survey. The information on these objects has been complemented with photometric, spectroscopic, and kinematical follow-up data from the literature. The underluminous galaxies around the Magellanic System, still very few as compared to the predictions from {Lambda} Cold Dark Matter simulations, can bring constraints to galaxy formation and hierarchical evolution. Furthermore, we provide diagnostics, when possible, of the nature of the ultra-faint clusters, searching for borders of the Magellanic System extensions into the Milky Way gravitational potential.

- Updated 3CRR sample of radio sources
- Short Name:

- Description:
- We examine the consistency of the unified scheme of Fanaroff-Riley type II radio galaxies and quasars with their observed number and size distributions in the 3CRR sample. We separate the low-excitation galaxies from the high-excitation ones, as the former might not harbor a quasar within and thus may not be partaking in the unified scheme models. In the updated 3CRR sample, at low redshifts (z<0.5), the relative number and luminosity distributions of high-excitation galaxies and quasars roughly match the expectations from the orientation-based unified scheme model. However, a foreshortening in the observed sizes of quasars, which is a must in the orientation-based model, is not seen with respect to radio galaxies even when the low-excitation galaxies are excluded. This dashes the hope that the unified scheme might still work if one includes only the high-excitation galaxies.

- Description:
- We spent a solid overview of the infrared and visual images 18020 2MFGC galaxies selected in the automatic mode of 1.64 million. Extended objects XSC-2MASS catalog with respect infrared axes, a/b>=3. This work is aimed at excluding "spurious" objects from the list of flattened galaxies. Browse more than 80000 images in different filters were able to identify 1512 (8.4% of the total) of such objects. Found duplicate in 2MASS measurements of 23 galaxies with, respectively, two rooms 2MFGC, and 3 flat galaxy, not accounted for in other directories and in close proximity with the three "spurious" galaxies. The main part of the excluded facilities accounted for magnitudes less Ks=13mag. They are characterized by small angular size, low surface brightness and the concentration index. Exception objects identified significantly reduced the spread of values in the two-dimensional distribution. Results of work in the form of notes will be placed in the astronomical database VizieR, NED, HYPERLEDA.

- Updated Multiple Star Catalog (MSC): Sept 2021
- Short Name:
- J/ApJS/235/6
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The catalog of hierarchical stellar systems with three or more components is an update of the original 1997 version (Tokovinin, 1997-1999, J/A+AS/124/75). For 2000 hierarchies, the new Multiple Star Catalog (MSC) provides distances, component masses and periods, and supplementary information (astrometry, photometry, identifiers, orbits, notes). The MSC content and format are explained, and its incompleteness and strong observational selection are stressed. Nevertheless, the MSC can be used for statistical studies and is a valuable source for planning observations of multiple stars. Rare classes of stellar hierarchies found in the MSC (with six or seven components, extremely eccentric orbits, planar and possibly resonant orbits, hosting planets) are briefly presented. High-order hierarchies have smaller velocity dispersion compared to triples and are often associated with moving groups. The paper concludes with an analysis of the ratio of periods and separations between inner and outer subsystems. In wide hierarchies, the ratio of semimajor axes, estimated statistically, is distributed between 3 and 300, with no evidence of dynamically unstable systems.

- Updated nearby galaxy catalog
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/145/101
- Date:

- Publisher:

- Description:
- We present an all-sky catalog of 869 nearby galaxies having individual distance estimates within 11Mpc or corrected radial velocities V_LG_<600km/s. The catalog is a renewed and expanded version of the Catalog of Neighboring Galaxies by Karachentsev et al (2004, cat. J/AJ/127/2031). It collects data on the following galaxy observables: angular diameters, apparent magnitudes in far-UV, B, and K_s_bands, H{alpha} and HI fluxes, morphological types, HI-line widths, radial velocities, and distance estimates. In this Local Volume (LV) sample, 108 dwarf galaxies still remain without measured radial velocities. The catalog yields also calculated global galaxy parameters: linear Holmberg diameter, absolute B magnitude, surface brightness, HI mass, stellar mass estimated via K-band luminosity, HI rotational velocity corrected for galaxy inclination, indicative mass within the Holmberg radius, and three kinds of "tidal index," which quantify the local density environment. The catalog is supplemented with data based on the local galaxies, which presents their optical and available H{alpha} images, as well as other services. We briefly discuss the Hubble flow within the LV and different scaling relations that characterize galaxy structure and global star formation in them. We also trace the behavior of the mean stellar mass density, HI-mass density, and star formation rate density within the volume considered.

- Description:
- This table contains an all-sky catalog of 869 nearby galaxies having individual distance estimates within 11 Mpc or corrected radial velocities relative to the Local Group centroid VLG < 600 km s-1. The catalog is a renewed and expanded version of the previous Catalog of Neighboring Galaxies by Karachentsev et al. (2004, AJ, 127, 2031). It collects data on the following galaxy observables: angular diameters, apparent magnitudes in the far-UV, B, and Ks bands, H-alpha and H I fluxes, morphological types, H I-line widths, radial velocities, and distance estimates. In this Local Volume (LV) sample, 108 dwarf galaxies still remain without measured radial velocities. The catalog also lists calculated global galaxy parameters: the linear Holmberg diameters, absolute B magnitudes, surface brightnesses, H I masses, stellar masses estimated via K-band luminosity, H I rotational velocities corrected for galaxy inclination, indicative masses within the Holmberg radius, and three kinds of "tidal index" which quantify the local density environment. In the reference paper, the authors briefly discuss the Hubble flow within the LV and different scaling relations that characterize galaxy structure and global star formation in them. They also trace the behavior of the mean stellar mass density, H I-mass density, and star formation rate density within the volume considered. This table was created by the HEASARC in June 2013 based on electronic versions of Tables 1 and 2 from the reference paper which were obtained form the AJ web site. This is a service provided by NASA HEASARC .

- Updated O3N2 and N2 abundance indicators
- Short Name:
- J/A+A/559/A114
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The use of integral field spectroscopy is since recently allowing to measure the emission line fluxes of an increasingly large number of star-forming galaxies both locally and at high redshift. Many studies have used these fluxes to derive gas-phase metallicity of the galaxies by applying the so-called strong-line methods. However, the metallicity indicators that these datasets use were empirically calibrated using few direct abundance data points (Te-based measurements). Furthermore, a precise determination of the prediction intervals of these indicators is commonly lacking in these calibrations. Such limitations might lead to systematic errors in determining the gas-phase metallicity, especially at high redshift, which might have a strong impact on our understanding of the chemical evolution of the Universe. The main goal of this study is to review the most widely used empirical oxygen calibrations, O3N2 and N2, by using new direct abundance measurements. We pay special attention to (1) the expected uncertainty of these calibrations as a function of the index value or abundance derived and (2) the presence of possible systematic offsets. This is possible thanks to the analysis of the most ambitious compilation of Te-based Hii regions to date. This new dataset compiles the Te-based abundances of 603 Hii regions extracted from the literature but also includes new measurements from the CALIFA survey.

- Updated parameters of 1743 open clusters
- Short Name:
- J/MNRAS/504/356
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- In this study, we follow up our recent paper (Monteiro et al., )2020MNRAS.499.1874M and present a homogeneous sample of fundamental parameters of open clusters in our Galaxy, entirely based on Gaia DR2 data. We used published membership probability of the stars derived from Gaia DR2 data and applied our isochrone fitting code, updated as in Monteiro et al. (2020MNRAS.499.1874M), to G_BP_ and G_RP_Gaia DR2 data for member stars. In doing this, we take into account the nominal errors in the data and derive distance, age, and extinction of each cluster. This work therefore provides parameters for 1743 open clusters and, as a by-product, a list of likely not physical or dubious open clusters is provided as well for future investigations. Furthermore, it was possible to estimate the mean radial velocity of 831 clusters (198 of which are new and unpublished so far), using stellar radial velocities from Gaia DR2 catalogue. By comparing the open cluster distances obtained from isochrone fitting with those obtained from a maximum likelihood estimate of individual member parallaxes, we found a systematic offset of (-0.05 {\pm} 0.04) mas.

- Updated photometry for star clusters in M33
- Short Name:
- J/ApJS/211/22
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The photometric characterization of M33 star clusters is far from complete. In this paper, we present homogeneous UBVRI photometry of 708 star clusters and cluster candidates in M33 based on archival images from the Local Group Galaxies Survey, which covers 0.8deg^2^ along the galaxy's major axis. Our photometry includes 387, 563, 616, 580, and 478 objects in the UBVRI bands, respectively, of which 276, 405, 430, 457, and 363 do not have previously published UBVRI photometry. Our photometry is consistent with previous measurements (where available) in all filters. We adopted Sloan Digital Sky Survey ugriz photometry for complementary purposes, as well as Two Micron All Sky Survey near-infrared JHK photometry where available. We fitted the spectral-energy distributions of 671 star clusters and candidates to derive their ages, metallicities, and masses based on the updated PARSEC simple stellar populations synthesis models. The results of our {chi}^2^ minimization routines show that only 205 of the 671 clusters (31%) are older than 2Gyr, which represents a much smaller fraction of the cluster population than that in M31 (56%), suggesting that M33 is dominated by young star clusters (<1Gyr).

- Updated Planck catalogue PSZ1
- Short Name:
- J/A+A/581/A14
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We update the all-sky Planck catalogue of 1227 clusters and cluster candidates (PSZ1) published in March 2013, derived from detections of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect using the first 15.5 months of Planck satellite observations. As an addendum, we deliver an updated version of the PSZ1 catalogue, reporting the further confirmation of 86 Planck-discovered clusters. In total, the PSZ1 now contains 947 confirmed clusters, of which 214 were confirmed as newly discovered clusters through follow-up observations undertaken by the Planck Collaboration. The updated PSZ1 contains redshifts for 913 systems, of which 736 (~80.6%) are spectroscopic, and associated mass estimates derived from the Yz mass proxy. We also provide a new SZ quality flag for the remaining 280 candidates. This flag was derived from a novel artificial neural-network classification of the SZ signal. Based on this assessment, the purity of the updated PSZ1 catalogue is estimated to be 94%. In this release, we provide the full updated catalogue and an additional readme file with further information on the Planck SZ detections.
