- We previously reported a significant clustering of red galaxies (R-K=3.56) around the radio-loud quasar B2 1335+28 at z=1.086. In this paper, we establish the existence of a rich cluster at the quasar redshift and study the properties of the cluster galaxies through further detailed analysis of the photometric data. We also list the positions, K-band magnitudes, and colors of all K<19 objects. The near-infrared (NIR) K-band imaging data presented in earlier paper, together with some additional K-band data, is newly analyzed to study the extent of the clustering of the red galaxies. We also constrain the cluster redshift by applying a robust photometric redshift estimator and find a strong peak around z=1.1. The color distribution of the galaxies in the cluster is quite broad, and the fraction of blue galaxies (70%) is much larger than in intermediate-redshift clusters.

- Lyman-alpha luminosity function (LF) based on deep observations of four lensing clusters. The precise aim of the present study is to further constrain the abundance of Lyman-alpha emitters (LAEs) by taking advantage of the magnification provided by lensing clusters. We blindly selected a sample of 156 LAEs, with redshifts between 2.9<z<6.7 and magnification-corrected Lyman alpha luminosities in the range 39<LogL_Ly{alpha}_[erg/s]<43. The price to pay to benefit from magnification is a reduction of the effective volume of the survey, together with a more complex analysis procedure. To properly take into account the individual differences in detection conditions (including lensing configurations, spatial and spectral morphologies) when computing the LF, a new method based on the 1/Vmax approach was implemented. The LAE LF has been obtained in four different redshift bins with constraints down to logL_Ly{alpha}_=40.5. From our data only, no significant evolution of LF mean slope can be found. When performing a Schechter analysis including data from the literature to complete the present sample a steep faint-end slope was measured varying from {alpha}=-1.69^+0.08^_-0.08_ to {alpha}=-1.87^+0.12^_-0.12_ between the lowest and the highest redshift bins. The contribution of the LAE population to the star formation rate density at z~6 is ~<50% depending on the luminosity limit considered, which is of the same order as the Lyman-break galaxy (LBG) contribution. The evolution of the LAE contribution with redshift depends on the assumed escape fraction of Lyman-alpha photons, and appears to slightly increase with increasing redshift when this fraction is conservatively set to one.

- We present the analysis of the spectroscopic and photometric catalogues of 11 X-ray luminous clusters at 0.07<z<0.16 from the Las Campanas/Anglo-Australian Telescope Rich Cluster Survey. Our spectroscopic data set consists of over 1600 galaxy cluster members, of which two-thirds are outside r_200_. These spectra allow us to assign cluster membership using a detailed mass model and expand on our previous work on the cluster colourmagnitude relation (CMR) where membership was inferred statistically.

- We report the discovery of a probable large-scale structure composed of many galaxy clumps around the known twin clusters at z=1.26 and 1.27 in the Lynx region. Our analysis is based on deep, panoramic, and multicolour imaging, 26.4x24.1arcmin^2^ in VRi'z' bands with the Suprime-Cam on the 8.2-m Subaru telescope. This unique, deep and wide-field imaging data set allows us for the first time to map out the galaxy distribution in the highest-redshift supercluster known.

- In our previous analysis we investigated the large-scale environment of two samples of radio galaxies (RGs) in the local universe (i.e., with redshifts z_src_<=0.15), classified as FR I and FR II on the basis of their radio morphology. The analysis was carried out using (i) extremely homogeneous catalogs and (ii) a new method, known as cosmological overdensity, to investigate their large-scale environments. We concluded that, independently of the shape of their radio extended structure, RGs inhabit galaxy-rich large-scale environments with similar characteristics and richness. In the present work, we first highlight additional advantages of our procedure, which does not suffer cosmological biases and/or artifacts, and then we carry out an additional statistical test to strengthen our previous results. We also investigate properties of RG environments using those of the cosmological neighbors. We find that large-scale environments of both FR Is and FR IIs are remarkably similar and independent of the properties of central RG. Finally, we highlight the importance of comparing radio sources in the same redshift bins to obtain a complete overview of their large-scale environments.

- We have extended the CfA Redshift Survey to low galactic latitudes to investigate the relation between the Great Wall in the North Galactic Cap and the Perseus-Pisces chain in the South Galactic Cap. We present redshifts for 2020 galaxies in the Catalogue of Galaxies and of Clusters of Galaxies (Zwicky et al. 1961-68, CGCG, Cat. <VII/4>) in the following regions: 4h<=RA<=8h, 17h<=Dec.<=20h, 0deg<=Dec.<=45deg. In these regions, the redshift catalogue includes 1664 galaxies with B(0)<=15.5 (of which 820 are newly measured) and is 97% complete. We also include redshifts for an additional 356 galaxies in these regions with B(0)>15.5; of these, 148 were previously unmeasured. The CGCG samples the galaxy distribution down to b_(II)_~10deg. In this paper, we discuss the acquisition and reduction of the spectra, and we examine the qualitative features of the redshift distribution. The Great Wall and the Perseus-Pisces chain are not simply connected across the Zone of Avoidance. These structures, which at first appear to be coherent on scales of ~100h^-1^Mpc or more, actually form the boundaries of neighboring voids of considerably smaller scale, approximately 50h^-1^Mpc. The structures delineated by our optically-selected sample are qualitatively similar to those detected by the far-infrared-selected IRAS 1.2 Jansky Survey (Fisher et al., 1995ApJS..100...69F). Although the IRAS survey probes more deeply into the Zone of Avoidance, our optically-selected survey provides better sampling of structures at b_(II)>=10deg. - The Las Campanas Observatory and Anglo-Australian Telescope Rich Cluster Survey (LARCS) is a panoramic imaging and spectroscopic survey of an X-ray luminosity-selected sample of 21 clusters of galaxies at 0.97<z<0.16. Charge-coupled device (CCD) imaging was obtained in B and R of typically 2{deg} wide regions centred on the 21 clusters, and the galaxy sample selected from the imaging is being used for an on-going spectroscopic survey of the clusters with the 2dF spectrograph on the Anglo-Australian Telescope.

- We present an optically selected catalog of 1073 galaxy cluster and group candidates at 0.3<~z<~1. These candidates are drawn from the Las Campanas Distant Clusters Survey (LCDCS), a drift-scan imaging survey of a 130 square degree strip of the southern sky. The survey data were obtained in 1995 March under photometric conditions using the Las Campanas 1 m telescope, the Great Circle Camera, and the Tek No. 5 CCD. To construct this catalog we utilize a novel detection process in which clusters are detected as positive surface brightness fluctuations in the background sky. This approach permits us to find clusters with significantly shallower data than other matched-filter methods that are based upon number counts of resolved galaxies. Selection criteria for the survey are fully automated so that this sample constitutes a well-defined, homogeneous sample that can be used to address issues of cluster evolution and cosmology. Estimated redshifts are derived for the entire sample, and an observed correlation between surface brightness and velocity dispersion, {sigma}, is used to estimate the limiting velocity dispersion of the survey as a function of redshift.

- A "friends-of-friends" percolation algorithm has been used to extract a catalog of {delta}n/n=80 density enhancements (groups) from the six slices of the Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS). The full catalog contains 1495 groups and includes 35% of the LCRS galaxy sample. A clean sample of 394 groups has been derived by culling groups from the full sample that either are too close to a slice edge, have a crossing time greater than a Hubble time, have a corrected velocity dispersion of zero, or contain a 55"-'orphan' (a galaxy with a mock redshift that was excluded from the original LCRS redshift catalog due to its proximity to another galaxy, i.e., within 55").

- The statistics of strongly lensed arcs in samples of galaxy clusters provide information on cluster structure that is complementary to that from individual clusters. However, samples of clusters that have been analysed to date have been either small, heterogeneous or observed with limited angular resolution. We measure the lensed-arc statistics of 97 clusters imaged at high angular resolution with the Hubble Space Telescope, identifying lensed arcs using two automated arc-detection algorithms. The sample includes similar numbers of X-ray-selected [MAssive Cluster Survey (MACS)] and optically selected [Red-Sequence Cluster Survey (RCS)] clusters, and spans cluster redshifts in the range 0.2<z<1. We compile a catalogue of 42 arcs in the X-ray-selected subsample and seven arcs in the optical subsample. All but five of these arcs are reported here for the first time.
