- The UK Infrared Telescope Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) is the first of a new generation of infrared surveys. Here, we combine the data from two UKIDSS components, the Large Area Survey (LAS) and the Galactic Cluster Survey (GCS), with Two-Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) data to produce an infrared proper motion survey for low-mass stars and brown dwarfs. In total, we detect 267 low-mass stars and brown dwarfs with significant proper motions. We recover all 10 known single L dwarfs and the one known T dwarf above the 2MASS detection limit in our LAS survey area and identify eight additional new candidate L dwarfs. We also find one new candidate L dwarf in our GCS sample. Our sample also contains objects from 11 potential common proper motion binaries. Finally, we test our proper motions and find that while the LAS objects have proper motions consistent with absolute proper motions, the GCS stars may have proper motions which are significantly underestimated. This is possibly due to the bulk motion of some of the local astrometric reference stars used in the proper motion determination.

- We present an ultra-cool dwarf (UCD) catalogue compiled from low southern Galactic latitudes and mid-plane, from a cross-correlation of the Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) and the SuperCOSMOS survey. The catalogue contains 246 members identified from 5042deg^2^ within 220{deg}<=l<=360{deg} and 0{deg}<l<=30{deg}, for |b|<=15{deg}. Sixteen candidates are spectroscopically confirmed in the near-infrared as UCDs with spectral types from M7.5V to L9, the latest being the unusual blue L dwarf 2MASSJ11263991-5003550. Our catalogue selection method is presented enabling UCDs from ~M8V to the L-T transition to be selected down to a 2MASS limiting magnitude of Ks=~14.5mag (for S/N>=10).

- The occurrence of planets orbiting ultracool dwarfs is poorly constrained. We present results from a guest observer program on NASA's K2 spacecraft to search for transiting planets orbiting a sample of 827 ultracool dwarfs. Having found no transiting planets in our sample, we determined an upper limit on the occurrence of planets. We simulated planets orbiting our sample for a range of orbital periods and sizes. For the simulated planets that transit their host, we injected the transit light curve into the real K2 light curves, then attempted to recover the injected planets. For a given occurrence rate, we calculated the probability of seeing no planets, and use the results to place an upper limit on planet occurrence as a function of planet radius and orbital period. We find that short-period, mini-Neptune and Jupiter-sized planets are rare around ultracool dwarfs, consistent with results for early and mid-type M dwarf stars. We constrain the occurrence rate {eta} for planets between 0.5 and 10 R{earth} with orbital periods between 1 and 26.3days.

From these observations, we define a sample of mid infrared-selected galaxies at 15um and we also obtain 15um flux densities for a sample of Lyman Break Galaxies at z~1 already observed at 24um with Spitzer/MIPS.

- The mid-infrared spectroscopic analysis of a flux-limited sample of galaxies with f_{nu}_(24um)>10mJy is presented. Sources observed are taken from the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) catalog and from the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey region in Bootes (NDWFS). The spectroscopic sample includes 60 of the 100 sources in these combined catalogs having f_{nu}_(24um)>10 mJy. New spectra from the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph are presented for 25 FLS sources and for 11 Bootes active galactic nuclei (AGNs); these are combined with 24 Bootes starburst galaxies previously published to determine the distribution of mid-infrared spectral characteristics for the total 10mJy sample. Sources have 0.01<z<2.4 and 41.8<log{nu}L_{nu}_(15um)<46.2(ergs/s).

- The mass-loss mechanism in red giants and red supergiants is not yet understood well. The SiO fundamental lines near 8 m are potentially useful for probing the outer atmosphere, which is essential for clarifying the mass-loss mechanism. However, these lines have been little explored until now. We present high spectral resolution spectroscopic observations of the SiO fundamental lines near 8.1um in 16 bright red giants and red supergiants. Our sample consists of seven normal (i.e., non-Mira) K-M giants (from K1.5 to M6.5), three Mira stars, three optically bright red supergiants, two dusty red supergiants, and the enigmatic object GCIRS3 near the Galactic center.

- Red quasars are very red in the optical through near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, which is possibly due to dust extinction in their host galaxies as expected in a scenario in which red quasars are an intermediate population between merger-driven star-forming galaxies and unobscured type 1 quasars. However, alternative mechanisms also exist to explain their red colors: (i) an intrinsically red continuum; (ii) an unusual high covering factor of the hot dust component, that is, CF_HD_=L_HD_/L_bol_, where the L_HD_ is the luminosity from the hot dust component and the L_bol_ is the bolometric luminosity; and (iii) a moderate viewing angle. In order to investigate why red quasars are red, we studied optical and NIR spectra of 20 red quasars at z~0.3 and 0.7, where the usage of the NIR spectra allowed us to look into red quasar properties in ways that are little affected by dust extinction. The Paschen to Balmer line ratios were derived for 13 red quasars and the values were found to be ~10 times higher than unobscured type 1 quasars, suggesting a heavy dust extinction with A_V_>2.5mag. Furthermore, the Paschen to Balmer line ratios of red quasars are difficult to explain with plausible physical conditions without adopting the concept of the dust extinction. The CF_HD_ of red quasars are similar to, or marginally higher than, those of unobscured type 1 quasars. The Eddington ratios, computed for 19 out of 20 red quasars, are higher than those of unobscured type 1 quasars (by factors of 3-5), and hence the moderate viewing angle scenario is disfavored. Consequently, these results strongly suggest the dust extinction that is connected to an enhanced nuclear activity as the origin of the red color of red quasars, which is consistent with the merger-driven quasar evolution scenario.

- We present a set of 6-12{mu}m ISOPHOT-S spectra of the general interstellar medium of the Milky Way. This part of the spectrum is dominated by a series of strong, wide emission features commonly called the Unidentified Infrared Bands (UIR). The sampled area covers the inner Milky Way from l=-60{deg} to +60{deg} with a ten-degree step in longitude and nominal latitudes b=0{deg}, +/-1{deg}. For each grid position the actual observed direction was selected from IRAS 100{mu}m maps to minimize contamination by point sources and molecular clouds.

- The unWISE Catalog contains the positions and fluxes of roughly two billion objects observed by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) over the full sky. The unWISE Catalog has two advantages over the existing WISE catalog (AllWISE): first, it is based on significantly deeper imaging, and second, it features improved modeling of crowded regions. The deeper imaging used in the unWISE Catalog comes from the coaddition of all publicly available 3-5 micron WISE imaging, including that from the ongoing NEOWISE-Reactivation mission, thereby increasing the total exposure time by a factor of 5 relative to AllWISE. At these depths, even at high Galactic latitudes many sources are blended with their neighbors; accordingly, the unWISE analysis simultaneously fits thousands of sources to obtain accurate photometry. The unWISE catalog detects sources at 5 sigma roughly 0.7 magnitudes fainter than the AllWISE catalog and more accurately models millions of faint sources in the Galactic plane, enabling a wealth of Galactic and extragalactic science. In particular, relative to AllWISE, unWISE doubles the number of galaxies detected between redshifts 0 and 1 and triples the number between redshifts 1 and 2, cataloging more than half a billion galaxies over the whole sky.

- We spent a solid overview of the infrared and visual images 18020 2MFGC galaxies selected in the automatic mode of 1.64 million. Extended objects XSC-2MASS catalog with respect infrared axes, a/b>=3. This work is aimed at excluding "spurious" objects from the list of flattened galaxies. Browse more than 80000 images in different filters were able to identify 1512 (8.4% of the total) of such objects. Found duplicate in 2MASS measurements of 23 galaxies with, respectively, two rooms 2MFGC, and 3 flat galaxy, not accounted for in other directories and in close proximity with the three "spurious" galaxies. The main part of the excluded facilities accounted for magnitudes less Ks=13mag. They are characterized by small angular size, low surface brightness and the concentration index. Exception objects identified significantly reduced the spread of values in the two-dimensional distribution. Results of work in the form of notes will be placed in the astronomical database VizieR, NED, HYPERLEDA.
