- The study of physical and chemical properties of massive protostars is critical to better understand the evolutionary sequence which leads to the formation of high-mass stars. IRAS 18151-1208 is a nearby massive region (d=3kpc, L~2x10^4^L_{sun}_) which splits into three cores : MM1, MM2 and MM3 (separated by 1arcmin-2arcmin). We aim at (1) studying the physical and chemical properties of the individual MM1, MM2 and MM3 cores; (2) deriving their evolutionary stages; (3) using these results to improve our view of the evolutionary sequence of massive cores. The region was observed in the CS, C^34^S, H_2_CO, HCO^+^ H^13^CO^+^, and N_2_H^+^ lines at mm wavelengths with the IRAM 30m and Mopra telescopes. We use 1D and 2D modeling of the dust continuum to derive the density and temperature distributions, which are then used in the RATRAN code to model the lines and constrain the abundances of the observed species. All the lines were detected in MM1 and MM2. MM3 shows weaker emission, or even is undetected in HCO^+^ and all isotopic species. MM2 is driving a newly discovered CO outflow and hosts a mid-IR-quiet massive protostar. The abundance of CS is significantly larger in MM1 than in MM2, but smaller than in a reference massive protostar such as AFGL 2591. In contrast the N_2_H^+^ abundance decreases from MM2 to MM1, and is larger than in AFGL 2591. Both MM1 and MM2 host an early phase massive protostar, but MM2 (and mid-IR-quiet sources in general) is younger and more dominated by the host protostar than MM1 (mid-IR-bright). The MM3 core is probably in a pre-stellar phase. We find that the N_2_H^+^/C^34^S ratio varies systematically with age in the massive protostars for which the data are available. It can be used to identify young massive protostars.

- Infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) are dense molecular clouds seen as extinction features against the bright mid-infrared Galactic background. Millimeter continuum maps toward 38 IRDCs reveal extended cold dust emission to be associated with each of the IRDCs. IRDCs range in morphology from filamentary to compact and have masses of 120 to 16000M_{sun}_, with a median mass of 940M_{sun}_. Each IRDC contains at least one compact (0.5pc) dust core and most show multiple cores. We find 140 cold millimeter cores unassociated with MSX 8{mu}m emission.

- In this contribution, we describe the applied methods to construct a 24{mu}m based point source catalog derived from the image data of the MIPSGAL 24{mu}m Galactic Plane Survey and the corresponding data products. The high quality catalog product contains 933818 sources, with a total of 1353228 in the full archive catalog. The source tables include positional and photometric information derived from the 24{mu}m images, source quality and confusion flags, and counterpart photometry from matched 2MASS, GLIMPSE, and WISE point sources. Completeness decay data cubes are constructed at 1' angular resolution that describe the varying background levels over the MIPSGAL field and the ability to extract sources of a given magnitude from this background. The completeness decay cubes are included in the set of data products. We present the results of our efforts to verify the astrometric and photometric calibration of the catalog, and present several analyses of minor anomalies in these measurements to justify adopted mitigation strategies.

- We have imaged an 11.5deg^2^ region of sky toward the South Ecliptic Pole (SEP; J0443-5340) at 24 and 70um with MIPS, the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer. This region is coincident with a field mapped at longer wavelengths by AKARI and BLAST. We discuss our data reduction and source extraction procedures. The median 1{sigma} depths of the maps are 47uJy/beam at 24um and 4.3mJy/beam at 70um. At 24um, we identify 93098 point sources with signal-to-noise ratio (S/N)>=5 and an additional 63 resolved galaxies; at 70um we identify 891 point sources with S/N>=6. From simulations, we determine a false detection rate of 1.8% (1.1%) for the 24um (70um) catalog. The 24 and 70um point-source catalogs are 80% complete at 230uJy and 11mJy, respectively.

- MIPS survey of YSOs in Vela Molecular Ridge-D

- A new, unbiased Spitzer MIPS imaging survey (~1.8deg^2^) of the young stellar content of the Vela Molecular Ridge-D (VMR-D) is presented. The survey is complete down to 5 and 250mJy at 24 and 70{mu}m, respectively. A total of 849 sources are detected at 24{mu}m, and 52 of them also have a 70{mu}m counterpart. The VMR-D region is one that we have already partially mapped in dust and gas millimeter emission, and we discuss the correlation between the Spitzer compact sources and the millimeter contours. About half of the 24{mu}m sources are located inside the region delimited by the ^12^CO(1-0) contours, corresponding to only one-third of the full area mapped with MIPS. Therefore, the 24{mu}m source density increases by about 100% moving from outside to inside the CO contours. For the 70{mu}m sources, the corresponding density increase is a factor of 4. About 400 sources of these have a 2MASS counterpart, and we have used this to construct a Ks versus Ks-[24] diagram and to identify the protostellar population inside the cloud.

- We present a sample of 4132 Mira-like variables (red variables with long periods and high amplitudes) in the Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope (KELT) survey. Of these, 376 are new Mira-like detections. We used Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) colors to identify candidate asymptotic giant branch stars. We searched for photometric variability among the candidate asymptotic giant branch stars and identified stars that show periodic variability. We selected variables with high amplitudes and strong periodic behavior using a Random Forest classifier. Of the sample of 4132 Mira-like variables, we estimate that 70% are Miras and 30% are semiregular (SR) variables. We also adopt the method of using (W_RP_-W_Ks_) versus (J-Ks) colors in distinguishing between O-rich and C-rich Miras and find it to be an improvement over 2MASS colors.

- The sight line toward the luminous blue hypergiant CygOB2-12 is widely used to study interstellar dust on account of its large extinction (AV~10mag) and the fact that this extinction appears to be dominated by dust typical of the diffuse interstellar medium. We present a new analysis of archival Infrared Space Observatory Short Wavelength Spectrometer and Spitzer IRS observations of CygOB2-12 using a model of the emission from the star and its stellar wind to determine the total extinction A{lambda} from 2.4 to 37{mu}m. In addition to the prominent 9.7 and 18{mu}m silicate features, we robustly detect absorption features associated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, including the first identification of the 7.7{mu}m feature in absorption. The 3.3{mu}m aromatic feature is found to be much broader in absorption than is typically seen in emission. The 3.4 and 6.85{mu}m aliphatic hydrocarbon features are observed with relative strengths that are consistent with observations of these features on sight lines toward the Galactic center. We identify and characterize more than 60 spectral lines in this wavelength range, which may be useful in constraining models of the star and its stellar wind. Based on this analysis, we present an extinction curve A_{lambda}_/A_2.2{mu}m_ that extrapolates smoothly to determinations of the mean Galactic extinction curve at shorter wavelengths and to dust opacities inferred from emission at longer wavelengths, providing a new constraint on models of interstellar dust in the mid-infrared.

- We provide a catalog of 391 mid-infrared-selected (MIR; 24 {mu}m) broad-emission-line (BEL; type 1) quasars in the 22 deg^2^ SWIRE Lockman Hole field. This quasar sample is selected in the MIR from Spitzer MIPS with S_24_> 400 {mu}Jy, jointly with an optical magnitude limit of r(AB) < 22.5 for broad line identification. The catalog is based on MMT and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) spectroscopy to select BEL quasars, extending the SDSS coverage to fainter magnitudes and lower redshifts, and recovers a more complete quasar population. The MIR-selected quasar sample peaks at z ~ 1.4 and recovers a significant and constant (20%) fraction of extended objects with SDSS photometry across magnitudes, which were not included in the SDSS quasar survey dominated by point sources. This sample also recovers a significant population of z < 3 quasars at i > 19.1. We then investigate the continuum luminosity and line profiles of these MIR quasars, and estimate their virial black hole masses and the Eddington ratios. The supermassive black hole mass shows evidence of downsizing, although the Eddington ratios remain constant at 1 < z < 4. Compared to point sources in the same redshift range, extended sources at z < 1 show systematically lower Eddington ratios. The catalog and spectra are publicly available online.

- We present a catalog of mid-infrared (MIR) spectra of 150 infrared (IR) luminous galaxies in the Spitzer extragalactic first look survey obtained with the IR spectrograph on board the Spitzer Space Telescope. The sample is selected to be brighter than ~0.9mJy at 24um and it has a redshift distribution in the range [0.3, 3.5], with a peak at z=1. It primarily comprises ultraluminous IR galaxies (ULIRGs) at z>~1 and luminous IR galaxies at z<1, as estimated from their monochromatic rest-frame 14um luminosities. The number of sources with spectra that are dominated by an active galactic nucleus (AGN) continuum is 49, while 39 sources have strong, star formation related features.

- We present high-resolution (R=75000-100000) mid-infrared spectra of the high-mass embedded young star IRS 1 in the NGC 7538 star-forming region. Absorption lines from many rotational states of C_2_H_2_, ^13^C^12^CH_2_, CH_3_, CH_4_, NH_3_, HCN, HNCO, and CS are seen. The gas temperature, column density, covering factor, line width, and Doppler shift for each molecule are derived. All molecules were fit with two velocity components between -54 and -63km/s. We find high column densities (~10^16^cm^-2^) for all the observed molecules compared to values previously reported and present new results for CH_3_ and HNCO. Several physical and chemical models are considered. The favored model involves a nearly edge-on disk around a massive star. Radiation from dust in the inner disk passes through the disk atmosphere, where large molecular column densities can produce the observed absorption line spectrum.
