- This survey consists of H I 21-cm spectra covering galactic latitudes from -10 degrees to +10 degrees and galactic longitudes from 10degrees to 250degrees. The observations were made with the Hat Creek 85-foot telescope between 1968 and 1970. The individual spectra contain 238 points per profile spaced every 5kHz and cover a velocity range of 250km/s. The velocity resolution is 2km/s (half-power of each filter) and the half-power beamwidth is 35arcmin. The spacing between points observed on the sky are 0.25degrees in galactic latitude and 0.5degrees in galactic longitude. Each spectrum or record consists of a header followed by 238 antenna temperatures. The header contains the galactic longitude, galactic latitude, and central velocity (LSR). The catalog contains a total of 38961 spectra.

- Blazars are known to show periods of quiescence followed by outbursts visible throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. We present a novel maximum likelihood approach to capturing this bimodal behavior by examining blazar radio variability in the flux-density domain. We separate quiescent and flaring components of a source's light curve by modeling its flux-density distribution as a series of "off" and "on" states. Our modeling allows us to extract information regarding the flaring ratio, duty cycle, and the modulation index in the "off"-state, in the "on"-state, as well as throughout the monitoring period of each blazar. We apply our method to a flux-density-limited subsample from the Owens Valley Radio observatory's 15 GHz blazar monitoring program, and explore differences in the variability characteristics between BL Lacs and FSRQs as well as between {gamma}-ray detected and non-detected sources. We find that: (1) BL Lacs are more variable and have relatively larger outbursts than the FSRQs; (2) unclassified blazar candidates in our sample show similar variability characteristics as the FSRQs; and (3) {gamma}-ray detected differ from the {gamma}-ray non-detected sources in all their variability properties, suggesting a link between the production of {gamma}-rays and the mechanism responsible for the radio variability. Finally, we fit distributions for blazar flaring ratios, duty cycles, and on- and off- modulation indices that can be used in population studies of variability-dependent blazar properties.

- The quasar sample selected by cross-correlating the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty cm (FIRST, <VIII/71>) survey and the 2-degree Field Quasar Redshift Survey (2QZ, <VII/223>) allows us to explore, for the first time, the faint end of the radio and optical luminosity functions up to z=~2.2. We find indications (~3{sigma}) of a negative evolution for these faint sources at z>~1.8, both in radio and optical bands. This corresponds to a decrement in the space density of faint quasars of approximately a factor 2 at z=2.2 and confirms the presence of a differential evolution for the population of radio-active quasars. The faint end of both luminosity functions flattens and the comparison with the (optical) number density of the whole quasar population supports a dependence of the fraction of radio-detected quasars on the optical luminosity. A progressive decrease in the fraction of quasars in the whole radio source population can be consistently accounted for within the receding torus scenario. The population of low-luminosity quasars, which the FIRST-2dF detects, appears to depart from the classical scheme for radio-loud quasars.

- Supplementing existing survey data with Very Large Array (VLA) observations, we have extended {gamma}-ray counterpart identifications down to decl.=-40{deg} using our "figure-of-merit" approach. We find blazar counterparts for 70% of EGRET sources above decl.=-40{deg} away from the Galaxy. Spectroscopic confirmation is in progress, and spectra for 24 sources are presented here. We find evidence that increased exposure in the bulge region allowed EGRET to detect relatively faint blazars; a clear excess of nonblazar objects in this region, however, argues for an additional (new) source class.

- Utilizing the latest and the most sensitive radio and optical catalogs, we completed a new blazar candidate catalog, Blazar Radio and Optical Survey (BROS), which includes 88211 sources located at decl. {delta}>-40{deg} and outside the galactic plane (|b|>10{deg}). We list compact flat-spectrum radio sources of {alpha}>-0.6 ({alpha} is defined as F_{nu}_{prop.to}{nu}^{alpha}^) from 0.15GHz TGSS to 1.4GHz NVSS catalogs. We further identify optical counterparts of the selected sources by cross-matching with Pan-STARRS1 photometric data. Color-color and color-magnitude plots for the selected BROS sources clearly show two distinct populations, a "quasar-like" population consisting of both flat-spectrum radio quasars and BL Lac type objects. On the other hand, an "elliptical-like" population of mostly BL Lac type objects is buried in the elliptical galaxy. The latter population is also reported in previous catalogs, but the BROS catalog provided a new larger sample of this population, due to the lower radio flux threshold of our selection. Model calculations show that the "elliptical-like" population consists of elliptical galaxies located at redshift z<=0.5, which is also supported by the logN-logS distribution of the power-law index of 1.49+/-0.05. This BROS catalog is useful for identifying the electromagnetic counterparts of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays and PeV neutrinos recently detected by IceCube, as well as nearby BL Lac objects detectable by future high-sensitivity TeV telescopes, such as the Cherenkov Telescope Array.

- Blazars are currently separated into BL Lacertae objects (BL Lacs) and flat spectrum radio quasars based on the strength of their emission lines. This is performed rather arbitrarily by defining a diagonal line in the Ca H&K break value-equivalent width plane, following Marcha et al. (1996MNRAS.281..425M). We readdress this problem and put the classification scheme for blazars on firm physical grounds. We study ~100 blazars and radio galaxies from the Deep X-ray Radio Blazar Survey (DXRBS, Cat. <J/AJ/115/1253> and <J/MNRAS/323/757>) and 2-Jy radio survey and find a significant bimodality for the narrow emission line [OIII]{lambda}5007. This suggests the presence of two physically distinct classes of radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN). We show that all radio-loud AGN, blazars and radio galaxies, can be effectively separated into weak- and strong-lined sources using the [OIII]{lambda}5007-[OII]{lambda}3727 equivalent width plane. This plane allows one to disentangle orientation effects from intrinsic variations in radio-loud AGN. Based on DXRBS, the strongly beamed sources of the new class of weak-lined radio-loud AGN are made up of BL Lacs at the ~75 per cent level, whereas those of the strong-lined radio-loud AGN include mostly (~97 per cent) quasars.

- By cross-matching the currently largest optical catalogue of galaxy clusters and the NVSS radio survey data base, we obtain a large complete sample of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in the redshift range of 0.05<z<=0.45, which have radio emission and redshift information. We confirm that more powerful radio BCGs tend to be these optically very bright galaxies located in more relaxed clusters. We derived the radio luminosity functions of the largest sample of radio BCGs, and find that the functions depend on the optical luminosity of BCGs and the dynamic state of galaxy clusters. However, the radio luminosity function does not show significant evolution with redshift.

- The brightest extragalactic radio sources at 2.7 GHz are catalogued. The complete sample comprises 233 sources found in the major centimeter wavelength surveys carried out at ANRAO/Parkes, NNRAO/Greenbank, and MPIfR/Bonn: the sample covers 9.81 sr and has limits S(27) = 2.0 Jy and |b| > 10{deg}. A critical reanalysis of the data shows that 227 (97 percent) have optical identifications and 171 (73 percent) have measured redshifts. The implications of the catalogue statistics for the luminosity functions of different radio-source populations are considered.

- The catalog is a compilation of 518 extragalactic radio sources with flux densities greater than 1 Jy at 5 GHz. It contains sources from the NRAO-MPI 5-GHz Strong Source Surveys and from re-observation at 5 GHz of sources found in the Parkes 2.7-GHz surveys. All sources were found in 9.811 sr covered by the two surveys. This is essentially the whole sky, excluding the galactic plane (latitudes less than 10 degrees) and the Magellanic Clouds. The catalog includes radio flux densities, radio positions, object classes, visual magnitudes, redshifts, and spectral indices.

- A search for bright galaxies associated with radio sources from the Westerbork Northern Sky Survey (WENSS) minisurvey has been carried out. A galaxy counterpart was found for 402 of almost 10,000 radio sources. Of these a radio and optically complete sample, with a flux density limit at 325MHz of 30mJy and a limiting red magnitude of 16, can be constructed, which contains 119 galaxies. This paper is the first step of a more general study, in which we aim to derive a bright galaxy sample from the entire WENSS survey (which is now available in the public domain) and thus to construct practically definitive local radio luminosity functions of elliptical and spiral galaxies. We briefly describe the WENSS minisurvey, and the steps that are needed for the optical identification of its radio sources. Due to the large numbers of sources involved (over 200,000) completely automated procedures are obviously needed and we discuss these in some detail. It is shown that with modern utilities projects as described here have become quite feasible. Some results (e.g. a preliminary determination of the local radio luminosity function) are presented.
