- Description:
- High-precision UBV(RI)_c_ photometry of 12 selected active stars, collected at the European Southern Observatory (La Silla, Chile) over the period February-March 1990, is presented. Significant evolution of the light curves, period variations and, in most cases, evidence for long-term variability of the global degree of spottedness are found. Some of the spectral classifications are discussed. This paper is part of a more extensive program focusing on the global properties and evolution of active stars and is aimed at establishing a time-extended photometric database which can give important clues on topics such as the stability of the spotted areas, differential rotation and solar-like cycles. For a description of the UBV and (RI)c photometric systems, see e.g. General Catalog of Photometric Data <GCPD/01> and <GCPD/54>.

- Description:
- As a part of an extensive program focused on the global properties and evolution of active stars, high-precision UBV(RI)_c_ and UBV photometry of 31 selected stars is presented. The UBV(RI)_c_ observations were collected at the European Southern Observatory over the 31 December 1992-18 January 1993 and the 20 November-3 December 1993 intervals. Additional UBV photometry obtained by the ``Phoenix" and by the Catania Astrophysical Observatory Automatic Photoelectric Telescopes from 1990 to 1993 is also presented for some of the program stars. Significant evolution of the light curves, period variations and evidence for long-term variability of the global degree of spottedness are found. Some spectral classifications are revised and the inferred photometric parallaxes are compared, whenever possible, with the values measured by the Hipparcos satellite (Cat. <I/239>). These observations are finalized to the construction of an extended photometric database, which can give important clues on topics such as the stability of spotted areas, differential rotation, solar-like cycles and the correlation between inhomogeneities at different atmospheric levels.

- Description:
- In the framework of an extensive program focusing on the global properties and evolution of active stars, high-precision UBV(RI)c photometry of 19 selected stars, collected at ESO over the 15-31 March 1991 interval is presented. Significant evolution of the light curves, period variations and evidence for long-term variability of the global degree of spottedness are found. Most of the spectral classification are discussed. A flare event was detected for the star HD 127535 = V841 Cen. These observations contribute to the establishment of a time-extended photometric database which can give important clues on topics such as the stability of spotted areas, differential rotation, solar-like cycles and the correlation between inhomogeneities at different atmospheric levels.

- Description:
- As part of an extensive program focused on the global properties and evolution of active stars, high-precision UBV(RI)c and UBV photometry of 18 selected stars is presented. UBV(RI)c observations were collected at the European Southern Observatory over the intervals 21-28 September 1994 and 25 November - 05 December 1994. Additional UBV photometry obtained late in 1994 by Catania Astrophysical Observatory Automatic Photoelectric Telescope is also presented. Significant evolution of the light curves, period variations and evidence for long-term variability of the global degree of spottedness are found. Some spectral classifications are revised and photometric parallaxes are compared, whenever possible, with the values measured by the Hipparcos satellite. - Description:
- A program of (UBVRI)c photometric observations of twelve southern hemisphere Long Period Variables (LPV or Miras) has been carried out at the European Southern Observatory. Each star was observed on at least 11 occasions up to 29 over a 4-year period. A determination of their spectral types and their distance was also performed. We therefore present for the first time spectral type variations together with visible and colour light-curves for at least three successive cycles.

- Description:
- The Asiago photographic archive has been searched for plates containing the symbiotic stars Hen 2-468, QW Sge, LT Del, V407 Cyg, K 3-9, V335 Vul, FG Ser and Draco C-1. A total of 635 plates imaging the program stars have been found and the brightness estimated using the Henden & Munari (2000A&AS..143..343H) UBV(RI) photometric sequences. These historical data have allowed for the first time the determination of the orbital periods of Hen 2-468 (774 days) and QW Sge (390.5 days), a significant improvement in the orbital period of LT Del (465.6 days) and for V407 Cyg an evaluation of the Mira's pulsation period and complex lightcurve shape in the red (R and I bands). Some previously unknown outbursts have been discovered too.

- UBV(RI)c time series of V372 Ser
- Short Name:
- J/A+A/497/481
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The first UBV(RI)_C time series photometry of the RRd star V372 Ser is presented to determine some parameters of the star. In April, May 2007 2812 U, B, V, R_C, I_C frames were obtained at Konkoly and Teide Observatories, 1508 V observations were collected from the literature. Fourier fitted light curves have been derived in all bands. The non-linearly coupled frequencies f_0=(2.121840+/-.000001)c/day, f_1_=(2.851188+/-.000001)c/d, i.e. periods P_0_=0.4712891+/-.0000002days, P_1_=0.3507310+/-.0000001d, P_1_/P_0_=0.7441950, amplitudes A_0_(V)=0.15399mag, A_1_(V)=0.20591mag, and phases have been found. A_1_/A_0_=1.319+/-.008 has been found from averaging the amplitude ratio in the different bands i.e. the first overtone is the dominant pulsation mode. From the V observations upper limits are given for secular change of the Fourier parameters. The period ratio and period put V372 Ser among the RRd stars of the globular clusters M3 and IC 4499, mass, luminosity, and metallicity estimates are given.

- UBVRIH{alpha} of {eta} Car in 2009
- Short Name:
- J/other/NewA/15.
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The periodic events occurring in {eta} Carinae have been widely monitored during the last three 5.5-year cycles. The last one recently occurred in January 2009 and more exhaustive observations have been made at different wavelength ranges. If these events are produced when the binary components approach periastron, the timing and sampling of the photometric features can provide more information about the geometry and physics of the system. Thus, we continued with our ground-based optical photometric campaign started in 2003 to record the behaviour of the 2009.0 event in detail. This time the observation program included a new telescope to obtain information from other photometric bands. The daily monitoring consists of the acquisition of CCD images through standard UBVRI filters and a narrow H{alpha} passband. The subsequent differential photometry includes the central region of the object and the whole Homunculus nebula. The results of our relative UBVRIH{alpha} photometry, performed from November 2008 up to the end of March 2009, are presented in this work, which comprises the totality of the event. The initial rising branch, the maximum, the dip to the minimum and the recovering rising phase strongly resemble a kind of eclipse. All these features happened on time - according to that predicted - although there are some photometric differences in comparison with the previous event. We made a new determination of 2022.8 days for the period value using the present and previous "eclipse-like" event data. These results strongly support the binarity hypothesis for {eta} Car. In this paper, the complete dataset with the photometry of the 2009.0 event is provided to make it readily available for further analysis.

- UBVRIJHK photometry of RR Lyrae in M4
- Short Name:
- J/PASP/126/521
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present optical and near-infrared UBVRIJHK photometry of stars in the Galactic globular cluster M4 (NGC 6121) based upon a large corpus of observations obtained mainly from public astronomical archives. We concentrate on the RR Lyrae variable stars in the cluster, and make a particular effort to accurately reidentify the previously discovered variables. We have also discovered two new probable RR Lyrae variables in the M4 field: one of them by its position on the sky and its photometric properties is a probable member of the cluster, and the second is a probable background (bulge?) object. We provide accurate equatorial coordinates for all 47 stars identified as RR Lyraes, new photometric measurements for 46 of them, and new period estimates for 45. We have also derived accurate positions and mean photometry for 34 more stars previously identified as variable stars of other types, and for an additional five non-RR Lyrae variable stars identified for the first time here. We present optical and near-infrared color-magnitude diagrams for the cluster and show the locations of the variable stars in them. We present the Bailey (period-amplitude) diagrams and the period-frequency histogram for the RR Lyrae stars in M4 and compare them to the corresponding diagrams for M5 (NGC 5904). We conclude that the RR Lyrae populations in the two clusters are quite similar in all the relevant properties that we have considered. The mean periods, pulsation-mode ratios, and Bailey diagrams of these two clusters show support for the recently proposed "Oosterhoff-neutral" classification.
