- The observed orbital characteristics of post-asymptotic giant branch (post-AGB) and post-red giant branch (post-RGB) binaries are not understood. We suspect that the missing ingredients to explain them probably lie in the continuous interaction of the central binary with its circumstellar environment. We aim at studying the circumbinary material in these complex systems by investigating the connection between the innermost and large-scale structures. We perform high-angular resolution observations in the near-infrared continuum of HD101584, which has a complex structure as seen at millimeter wavelengths with a disk-like morphology and a bipolar outflow due to an episode of strong binary interaction. To account for the complexity of the target we first perform an image reconstruction and use this result to fit a geometrical model to extract the morphological and thermal features of the environment. The image reveals an unexpected double-ring structure. We interpret the inner ring to be produced by emission from dust located in the plane of the disk and the outer ring to be produced by emission from dust that is located 1.6[D/1kpc] au above the disk plane. The inner ring diameter (3.94[D/1kpc] au), and temperature (T=1540+/-10K) are compatible with the dust sublimation front of the disk. The origin of the out-of-plane ring (with a diameter of 7.39[D/1kpc] au and a temperature of 1014+/-10K) could be due to episodic ejection or a dust condensation front in the outflow. The observed outer ring is possibly linked with the blue-shifted side of the large scale outflow seen by ALMA and is tracing its launching location to the central star. Such observations give morphological constraints on the ejection mechanism. Additional observations are needed to constrain the origin of the out-of-plane structure.

- We target the thermal emission spectrum of the non-transiting gas giant HD 88133 b with high-resolution near-infrared spectroscopy, by treating the planet and its host star as a spectroscopic binary. For sufficiently deep summed flux observations of the star and planet across multiple epochs, it is possible to resolve the signal of the hot gas giant's atmosphere compared to the brighter stellar spectrum, at a level consistent with the aggregate shot noise of the full data set. To do this, we first perform a principal component analysis to remove the contribution of the Earth's atmosphere to the observed spectra. Then, we use a cross-correlation analysis to tease out the spectra of the host star and HD 88133 b to determine its orbit and identify key sources of atmospheric opacity. In total, six epochs of Keck NIRSPEC L-band observations and three epochs of Keck NIRSPEC K-band observations of the HD 88133 system were obtained. Based on an analysis of the maximum likelihood curves calculated from the multi-epoch cross-correlation of the full data set with two atmospheric models, we report the direct detection of the emission spectrum of the non-transiting exoplanet HD 88133 b and measure a radial projection of the Keplerian orbital velocity of 40+/-15km/s, a true mass of 1.02_-0.28_^+0.61^M_J_, a nearly face-on orbital inclination of 15_-5_^+6^{deg}, and an atmosphere opacity structure at high dispersion dominated by water vapor. This, combined with 11 years of radial velocity measurements of the system, provides the most up-to-date ephemeris for HD 88133.

- Studies of the r-process enhanced stars are important for better understanding the nature and origin of the r-process. We present a detailed abundance analysis of a very metal-poor giant star discovered in the HERES project, HE 2252-4225, which exhibits overabundances of the r-process elements, with [r/Fe]=+0.80. We determined the stellar atmosphere parameters, Teff=4710K, logg=1.65, and [Fe/H]=-2.63, and chemical abundances by analysing the high-quality VLT/UVES spectra. The surface gravity was calculated from the non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) ionisation balance between FeI and FeII. Accurate abundances for a total of 38 elements, including 22 neutron-capture elements beyond Sr and up to Th, were determined in HE 2252-4225. For every chemical species, the dispersion in the single line measurements around the mean does not exceed 0.12dex. This object is deficient in carbon, as expected for a giant star with Teff<4800K. The stellar Na-Zn abundances are well fitted by the yields of a single supernova of 14.4M_{sun}_. For the neutron-capture elements in the Sr-Ru, Ba-Yb, and Os-Ir regions, the abundance pattern of HE 2252-4225 is in excellent agreement with the average abundance pattern of the strongly r-process enhanced stars CS 22892-052, CS 31082-001, HE 1219-0312, and HE 1523-091. This suggests a common origin of the first, second, and third r-process peak elements in HE 2252-4225 in the classical r-process. We tested the solar r-process pattern based on the most recent s-process calculations of Bisterzo, Travaglio, Gallino, Wiescher, and Kappeler and found that elements in the range from Ba to Ir match it very well. No firm conclusion can be drawn about the relationship between the first neutron-capture peak elements, Sr to Ru, in HE 2252-4225 and the solar r-process, due to the uncertainty in the solar r-process. The investigated star has an anomalously high Th/Eu abundance ratio, so that radioactive dating results in a stellar age of {tau}=1.5+/-1.5Gyr that is not expected for a very metal-poor halo star.

- We present the helium abundance of the two metal-poor clusters M30 and NGC 6397. Helium estimates have been obtained by using the high-resolution spectrograph FLAMES at the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope and by measuring the He I line at 4471 {AA} in 24 and 35 horizontal branch (HB) stars in M30 and NGC 6397, respectively. This sample represents the largest data set of He abundances collected so far in metal-poor clusters. The He mass fraction turns out to be Y=0.252+/-0.003 ({sigma}=0.021) for M30 and Y=0.241+/-0.004 ({sigma}=0.023) for NGC 6397. These values are fully compatible with the cosmological abundance, thus suggesting that the HB stars are not strongly enriched in He. The small spread of the Y distributions are compatible with those expected from the observed main sequence splitting. Finally, we find a hint of a weak anticorrelation between Y and [O/Fe] in NGC 6397 in agreement with the prediction that O-poor stars are formed by (He-enriched) gas polluted by the products of hot proton-capture reactions.

- The HEAO 1 A-4 Catalog of High-Energy X-ray Sources represents results from an all-sky survey carried out at high X-ray energies (13-180 keV) from August 1977 until January 1979 using data obtained with the UCSD/MIT Hard X-Ray and Low-Energy Gamma-Ray Instrument on the HEAO 1 satellite. Quantitative results from a model-dependent fitting procedure are given in the form of fitted count rates in four broad energy bands for about 70 sources. The survey is complete, except in regions of source confusion, down to an intensity level of about 1/75 of the Crab Nebula in the 13-80 keV energy band. Forty-four sources were detected in the 40-80 keV energy band, and 14 in the 80-180 keV band. Most of the sources are galactic; seven are extragalactic. This is a service provided by NASA HEASARC .

- The HEAO 1 A-2 LED Catalog of High-Energy X-ray Sources is the result of a study of the diffuse X-ray sky over the bands of X-ray energies 0.18-0.44 keV and 0.44-2.8 keV from August 1977 until January 1979 using data obtained with the A-2 Low Energy Detector on the HEAO 1 satellite. The HEAO A-2 Experiment was primarily designed for studying the diffuse X-ray background; however, it was also capable of studying point sources to good sensitivity. The detectors surveyed over 95 percent of the sky in the spectral bands listed above to typical limiting sensitivities of 1x10**-11 and 3x10**-11 respectively. Using a significance criterion of 6 sigma for existence, 114 sources are cataloged. The catalog contains a list of all counterpart identifications and a cross-reference to all HEAO 1 A-2 LED team publications on the catalog sources complete through the end of 1981. The identified sources fall into several categories, primarily dependent on observing energy interval. In the 1 KeV band the sources include: 20 galactic stellar sources, 19 extragalactic sources, 13 SNR's, 11 galactic bulge sources, 2 globular cluster sources, and 2 previously reported sources without optical counterparts. In the .25 KeV band the sources include: 24 galactic stellar objects, 12 extragalactic sources, 5 SNR's, 1 bulge source, and 1 globular cluster source. This is a service provided by NASA HEASARC .

- HEAO 1 (High Energy Astronomical Observatory) is a spinning survey mission X-ray satellite. It launched 12 August 1977 and was in operation until 9 January 1979. HEAO-1 rotated once per 30 minutes about the Earth-Sun line. In this manner, the instruments scanned a great circle in the sky that lay 90 degrees from the sun. A given source near the ecliptic was viewed for a few days while sources near the ecliptic pole were scanned nearly continuously during the entire mission. The satellite has limited pointing capability that was used to produce this data, giving continuous coverage of selected sources. The pointings began about 100 days into the mission. The A1 instrument, also known as the NRL Large Area Sky Survey Experiment (LASS) covered the energy range 0.25 to 25.0 keV. The experiment consisted of seven detectors, six mounted on the -Y side of the spacecraft, the seventh on the +Y side. Two detectors, with a FWHM of 1 deg x 0.5 deg and open area of 1350 cm2 were tilted a third of a degree either towards or away from the Z (Sun-pointed) four other -Y side detectors has a FWHM of 1 deg x 4 deg and an open area of 1650 cm2. The single +Y detector has a FWHM of 2 deg x 8 deg and an open area of 1900 cm2. The experiment had sufficient sensitivity to detect sources as faint as as 0.25 uJy at 5 keV for sources with a Crab-like spectrum. Data was collected in either a 5 or a 320 millisecond timing resolution mode: Full sky coverage for both time resolutions was achieved before the mission's end. Wood et al.
