- Kalirai et al. have observed the globular cluster 47 Tucanae for 121 orbits using the Advanced Camera for Surveys. These extremely deep images were taken in two filters: F606W (broad V-band) and F814W (I-band). Using these observations, Kalirai et al. were able to construct one of the deepest and most complete color-magnitude diagrams of a stellar population, probing down to 30th magnitude and extending from the faintest end of the main sequence to the coolest white dwarf members. As an added bonus, members of the Small Magellanic Cloud represent background sources, and these observations are able to resolve SMC targets down to 0.2 solar masses. The team have released their stacked ACS mosaics (FITS files), source catalog (ASCII text table), and artificial source lists (ASCII text table) used for testing photometry, astrometry, and completeness, as High Level Science Products. We summarize the creation of the stacked images and generation of the catalogs below, but refer you to the original publication for complete details. - 30 Doradus (a.k.a. the Tarantula Nebula), with its ionizing cluster R136, is one of the few known starbursts in the Local Group. For size (~200 pc in diameter) and density of OB stars, 30 Doradus parallels the regions of intense star formation observed in the starburst knots found in the interacting galaxies in the Local Universe and the young galaxies at high redshift (z>5). HTTP is a panchromatic imaging survey of stellar populations in the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud that reaches into the sub-solar mass regime. HTTP utilizes the capability of the Hubble Space Telescope to operate the Advanced Camera for Surveys and the Wide Field Camera 3 in parallel to study this remarkable region in the near-ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared spectral regions, including narrow-band Hα images. The high sensitivity, spatial resolution and broadband coverage of HTTP allow us to dissect the stellar populations and infer an accurate description of the anatomy of the Tarantula Nebula, and therefore to reconstruct for the first time the temporal and spatial evolution of a prototypical starburst on a sub-parsec scale. - New astrometric reductions of the US Naval Observatory CCD Astrograph Catalog (UCAC) all-sky observations were performed from first principles using the TGAS stars in the 8 to 11 magnitude range as reference star catalog. Significant improvements in the astrometric solutions were obtained and the UCAC5 catalog of mean positions at a mean epoch near 2001 was generated. By combining UCAC5 with Gaia DR1 data new proper motions on the Gaia coordinate system for over 107 million stars were obtained with typical accuracies of 1 to 2 mas/yr (R = 11 to 15 mag), and about 5 mas/yr at 16th mag. Proper motions of most TGAS stars are improved over their Gaia data and the precision level of TGAS proper motions is extended to many millions more, fainter stars. External comparisons were made using stellar cluster fields and extragalactic sources. The TGAS data allow us to derive the limiting precision of the UCAC x,y data, which is significantly better than 1/100 pixel. - The Guide Star Catalog II (GSC-II) is an all-sky optical catalog based on 1" resolution scans of the photographic Sky Survey plates, at two epochs and three bandpasses, from the Palomar and UK Schmidt telescopes. This all-sky catalog will ultimately contains positions, proper motions, classifications, and magnitudes in multiple bandpasses for almost a billion objects down to approximately Jpg=21, Fpg=20. The GSC-II is currently used for HST Bright Object Protection and HST pointing. Looking ahead, the GSC-II will form the basis of the Guide Star Catalog for JWST. This was constructed in collaboration with ground-based observatories for use with the GEMINI, VLT and GALILEO telescopes
