- We aim to determine accurate distances and ages of eight open clusters in order to: (1) assess their possible binarity (2) provide probes to trace the structure of the Third Galactic Quadrant. Cluster reddenings, distances, ages and metallicities are derived from ZAMS and isochrone fits in UBVRI photometric diagrams. Field contamination is reduced by restricting analysis to stars within the cluster limits derived from star counts. Further membership control is done by requiring that stars have consistent positions in several diagrams and by using published spectral types.

- Tables 5, 7, and 8 contain the data of the CCD photometry of the three open star clusters. We added the numbering systems of previously published papers to the tables. Table 5 contains the data of NGC 4103 with stellar numbers from Wesselink (1969MNRAS.146..329W); Table 7 the data of NGC 5281 with the numbers of Moffat & Vogt (1973A&AS...10..135M); Table 8 the data of NGC 4755 with the numbering system according to Arp & van Sant (1958AJ.....63..341A). In Tables 12, 13, and 14 we present relative proper motions of the three clusters (in the same sequence). For NGC 4103 the table contains the information of an entire Carte du Ciel field of 2 degrees square, for the other two clusters, a small subfield had to be selected beforehand. The numbers of Arp & van Sant (1958AJ.....63..341A) are encrypted in the following way: Numbers <100 stand for the stars A to Q, the first digit of the numbers >100 represents the quadrant. The two final digits are the running numbers in the notation of Arp & van Sant (1958AJ.....63..341A).

- We present CCD photometry and a proper motion study of the young open star cluster, NGC 581 (M 103). Fitting isochrones to the colour magnitude diagram, we found an age of 16+/-4Myr and a distance of roughly 3kpc for this cluster. The proper motion study identifies 77 stars of V=14.5mag or brighter to be cluster members. We combine membership determination by proper motions and statistical field star subtraction to derive the IMF of the cluster and find a quite steep slope of {Gamma}=-1.80.

- Following the recent discovery a large population of young stars in front of the Orion Nebula we carried out an observational campaign with the DECam wide-field camera covering approximately 10 square degrees centered on NGC 1980 to confirm, probe the extent, and characterize this foreground population of pre-main sequence stars. We used multi-wavelength wide field images and catalogs to identify potential foreground pre-main sequence stars using a novel probabilistic technique based on a careful selection of colors and luminosities. We confirmed the presence of a large foreground population towards the Orion A cloud. This population contains several distinct sub-groups including NGC 1980 and NGC 1981 and stretches over several degrees in front of the Orion A cloud. By comparing the location of their sequence in various color-magnitude diagrams to other clusters, we found a distance and an age of 380pc and 5 to 10Myr, in good agreement with previous estimates. Our final sample includes 2123 candidate members and is complete from below the hydrogen burning limit to about 0.3M_{sun}_ where the data starts to be limited by saturation. Extrapolating the mass function to the high masses, we estimated a total number of ~2600 members in the surveyed region.

- The gamma-ray binary LS I +61 303 is composed of a Be star and a compact companion orbiting in an eccentric orbit. Variable flux modulated with the orbital period of ~26.5d has been detected from radio to very high-energy gamma-rays. In addition, the system presents a superorbital variability of the phase and amplitude of the radio outbursts with a period of ~4.6yr. We present optical photometric observations of LS I +61 303 spanning ~1.5yr (table 1) and contemporaneous H-alpha equivalent width (EW) data (table 2). The optical photometry shows, for the first time, that the known orbital modulation suffers a positive orbital phase shift and an increase in flux for data obtained 1-yr apart. The orbital modulation of the EW presents, for the first time, a positive orbital phase shift. These orbital phase shifts of the thermal indicators are in line with the observed behavior for nonthermal indicators, such as X-ray or radio emission. This shows that there is a strong coupling between the thermal and nonthermal emission processes in the gamma-ray binary LS I +61 303.

- We present a search for outlying HII regions in the extended gaseous outskirts of nearby (D<40Mpc) galaxies and subsequent multi-slit spectroscopy used to obtain the HII region nebular oxygen abundances. The galaxies in our sample have extended HI disks and/or interaction-related HI features that extend well beyond their primary stellar components. We report oxygen abundance gradients out to 2.5 times the optical radius for these galaxies which span a range of morphologies and masses. We analyze the underlying stellar and neutral HI gas distributions in the vicinity of the HII regions to understand the physical processes that give rise to the observed metal distributions in galaxies. These measurements, for the first time, convincingly show flat abundance distributions out to large radii in a wide variety of systems and have broad implications for galaxy chemodynamical evolution.

- This paper is a continuation of an ongoing study of the evolutionary processes affecting cluster galaxies. Both CCD R band and Halpha narrow-band imaging was used to determine photometric parameters (m_r_, r_24_, Halpha flux, and equivalent width) and derive star formation rates for 227 CGCG galaxies in 8 low-redshift clusters. The galaxy sample is a subset of CGCG galaxies in an objective prism survey (OPS) of cluster galaxies for Halpha emission. It is found that detection of emission-line galaxies in the OPS is 85%, 70%, and 50% complete at the mean surface brightness values of 1.25x10^-19^, 5.19x10^-20^, and 1.76x10^-20^W/m^2^/arcsec^2^, respectively, measured within the R band isophote of 24mag/arcsec^2^ for the galaxy. The CCD data, together with matched data from a recent Halpha galaxy survey of UGC galaxies within 3000km/s, will be used for a comparative study of R band and Halpha surface photometry between cluster and field spirals.

- We have identified a population of passive spiral galaxies from photometry and integral field spectroscopy. We selected z<0.035 spiral galaxies that have WISE colours consistent with little mid-infrared emission from warm dust. Matched aperture photometry of 51 spiral galaxies in ultraviolet, optical and mid-infrared show these galaxies have colours consistent with passive galaxies. Six galaxies form a spectroscopic pilot study and were observed using the Wide-Field Spectrograph (WiFeS) to check for signs of nebular emission from star formation. We see no evidence of substantial nebular emission found in previous red spiral samples. These six galaxies possess absorption line spectra with 4000{AA} breaks consistent with an average luminosity-weighted age of 2.3Gyr. Our photometric and IFU spectroscopic observations confirm the existence of a population of local passive spiral galaxies, implying that transformation into early-type morphologies is not required for the quenching of star formation.
