- We present a catalog of emissive point sources detected in the SPT-SZ survey, a contiguous 2530 square degree area surveyed with the South Pole Telescope (SPT) from 2008-2011 in three bands centered at 95, 150, and 220GHz. The catalog contains 4845 sources measured at a significance of 4.5{sigma} or greater in at least one band, corresponding to detections above approximately 9.8, 5.8, and 20.4mJy in 95, 150, and 220GHz, respectively. The spectral behavior in the SPT bands is used for source classification into two populations based on the underlying physical mechanisms of compact, emissive sources that are bright at millimeter wavelengths: synchrotron radiation from active galactic nuclei and thermal emission from dust. The latter population includes a component of high-redshift sources often referred to as submillimeter galaxies (SMGs). In the relatively bright flux ranges probed by the survey, these sources are expected to be magnified by strong gravitational lensing. The survey also contains sources consistent with protoclusters, groups of dusty galaxies at high redshift undergoing collapse. We cross-match the SPT-SZ catalog with external catalogs at radio, infrared, and X-ray wavelengths and identify available redshift information. The catalog splits into 3980 synchrotron-dominated and 865 dust-dominated sources, and we determine a list of 506 SMGs. Ten sources in the catalog are identified as stars. We calculate number counts for the full catalog, and synchrotron and dusty components, using a bootstrap method and compare our measured counts with models. This paper represents the third and final catalog of point sources in the SPT-SZ survey.

- In this paper we continue our investigation on the isophotal nature, accuracy, and uniformity of the magnitude system adopted in the Southern Sky Redshift Survey extension (SSRS2). Extending our earlier work, we examine galaxies in the equatorial region, primarily in the declination range -17.5 deg <= Dec. <= 0 deg, over a large range of right ascension, covering the southern and northern Galactic caps. For this purpose, we have obtained CCD isophotal magnitudes in the B and R bands for 265 galaxies of different morphological types. Using this larger sample we confirm our earlier claim that the m(SSRS2) magnitudes are very nearly the magnitude measured within the isophote mu_B = 26 mag/arcsec^2, with a dispersion of about 0.30 mag. The relative zero-point offset between our m(SSRS2) magnitudes and CCD photometry is -0.02 mag from all data we have obtained. However, we detect a variation of the zero-point across different regions of the sky of +/- 0.10 mag for regions at large angular separations. We also estimate that the zero-point offset between the m(SSRS2) and Zwicky systems is relatively small (~0.10 mag), which should allow us to combine the data from the SSRS2 and the CfA2 Redshift Survey.

- We present the first ever global, spatially resolved reconstruction of the star formation history (SFH) of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), based on the application of our StarFISH analysis software to the multiband photometry of 20 million of its stars from the Magellanic Clouds Photometric Survey (MCPS). The general outlines of our results are consistent with previously published results: following an initial burst of star formation, there was a quiescent epoch from approximately 12 to 5Gyr ago. Star formation then resumed and has proceeded until the current time at an average rate of roughly 0.2M_{sun}_/yr, with temporal variations at the factor of 2 level.

- The Stromlo-APM Redshift Survey consists of 1797 galaxies with b(J)<17.15 selected randomly at a rate of 1 in 20 from Automated Plate Measurement (APM) scans. The survey covers a solid angle of 1.3sr (4300 square degrees) in the south galactic cap. Redshifts have been measured for 1790 (99.6%) of the galaxies. The median galaxy recession velocity is 15,300 km/s and so the volume probed is approximately V=1.38 million Mpc^3/h^3.

- We present the results of 325MHz Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope observations of a supercluster field, known to contain five Abell clusters at redshift z~0.2. We achieve a nominal sensitivity of 34uJy/beam towards the phase centre. We compile a catalogue of 3257 sources with flux densities in the range 183uJy-1.5Jy within the entire ~6.5deg^2^ field of view. Subsequently, we use available survey data at other frequencies to derive the spectral index distribution for a sub-sample of these sources, recovering two distinct populations - a dominant population which exhibit spectral index trends typical of steep-spectrum synchrotron emission, and a smaller population of sources with typically flat or rising spectra. We identify a number of sources with ultrasteep spectra or rising spectra for further analysis, finding two candidate high-redshift radio galaxies and three gigahertz-peaked-spectrum radio sources. Finally, we derive the Euclidean-normalized differential source counts using the catalogue compiled in this work, for sources with flux densities in excess of 223uJy. Our differential source counts are consistent with both previous observations at this frequency and models of the low-frequency source population. These represent the deepest source counts yet derived at 325MHz. Our source counts exhibit the well-known flattening at mJy flux densities, consistent with an emerging population of star-forming galaxies; we also find marginal evidence of a downturn at flux densities below 308uJy, a feature so far only seen at 1.4GHz.

- We use a compilation of redshifts of rich clusters by Andernach, Tago and Stengler-Larrea (1996, in preparation) to determine superclusters of rich clusters up to a redshift of z=0.12. Superclusters were searched for with a clustering algorithm, using a neighbourhood radius of 24h^-1^Mpc (h is the Hubble constant in units of 100km/s/Mpc). The catalogue contains 220 superclusters of rich clusters, of which 90 superclusters have been determined for the first time. Table A2 gives the supercluster number, its multiplicity, centre coordinates, a list of member clusters and identifications with the catalogue by Einasto et al. (1994MNRAS.269..301E).

- The Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy, the closest satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, has survived for many orbits about the Galaxy. Extent numerical calculations modeled this galaxy as a system with a centrally-concentrated mass profile, following the light, and found that it should lose more than one-half of its mass every 2-4 orbits and be completely disrupted long before now. Apparently the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal, and by implication other dSph galaxies, do not have a centrally-concentrated profile for their dark matter. We develop a model in which the stars of the Sgr dwarf are embedded in a constant-density dark matter halo, representing the core of a tidally-limited system, and show that this is consistent with its survival. We present new photometric and kinematic observations of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal and show these data are consistent with this explanation for the continued existence of this galaxy. The Sagittarius dwarf is being tidally distorted and is tidally limited, but is not disrupted as yet. The corresponding minimum total mass is 10^9^M_{sun}_, while the central mass to visual light ratio is ~50 in Solar units. Our new photographic photometry allows the detection of main-sequence stars of the Sagittarius dwarf over an area of 22x8{deg}. The Sagittarius dwarf is prolate, with axis ratios ~3:1:1. For an adopted distance of 16+/-2kpc from the Galactic center on the opposite side of the Galaxy to the Sun, the major axis is >~9kpc long and is aligned approximately normal to the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy, roughly following the coordinate line l=5{deg}. The central velocity dispersion of giant stars which are members of the Sagittarius dwarf is 11.4+/-0.7km/s and is consistent with being constant over the face of the galaxy. The gradient in mean line-of-sight velocity with position along the major axis, dv/db, is ~0km/s/degree in the central regions and increases in amplitude to dv/db=-3km/s/degree over the outermost three degrees for which we have data. A first measurement of the proper motion of the Sagittarius dwarf determines the component of its space velocity parallel to its major axis to be 250+/-90km/s, directed towards the Galactic Plane. We model these kinematic data to determine the orbit of the Sagittarius dwarf. Our best fit model has an orbital period of <~1Gyr and has the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal close to perigalacticon. This period is shorter, by about a factor of >~10, than the age of the bulk of its stellar population. (Copyright) 1997 American Astronomical Society.

- The present paper is devoted to the construction of a catalog of isolated galaxy pairs from the Uppsala Galaxy Catalog (UGC), using accurate radial velocities. The UGC lists 12 921 galaxies to {delta}>-2:30 and is complete to an apparent diameter of 1{arcmin}. The criteria used to define the isolated galaxy pairs are based on velocity, interdistance, reciprocity and isolation information. A peculiar investigation has allowed to gather very accurate radial velocities for pair members, from high quality HI and optical measurements (median uncertainty on velocity differences 10km/s). Our final catalog contains 1005 galaxy pairs with {rho}>2.5, of which 509 have {rho}>5 (50% of the pairs, i.e. 8% of the UGC galaxies) and 273 are highly isolated with {rho}>10 (27% of the pairs, i.e. 4% of the UGC galaxies). Some global properties of the pair catalog are given.

- The Ursa Major Cluster has received remarkably little attention, although it is as near as the Virgo Cluster and contains a comparable number of H I-rich galaxies. In this paper, criteria for group membership are discussed and data are presented for 79 galaxies identified with the group. Of these, all 79 have been imaged at B,R,I bands with CCDs, 70 have been imaged at K' with a HgCdTe array detector, and 70 have been detected in the H I 21 cm line. A complete sample of 62 galaxies brighter than M_B=-16.5 is identified. Images and gradients in surface brightness and color are presented at a common linear scale. As has been seen previously, the galaxies with the reddest global colors are reddest at the centers and get bluer at large radii. However, curiously, among the galaxies with the bluest global colors there are systems with very blue cores that get redder at large radii.
