- This paper presents an analysis of core-collapse supernova distributions in isolated and interacting host galaxies, paying close attention to the selection effects involved in conducting host galaxy supernova studies. When taking into account all of the selection effects within our host galaxy sample, we draw the following conclusions. 1. Within interacting, or 'disturbed', systems there is a real, and statistically significant, increase in the fraction of stripped-envelope supernovae in the central regions. A discussion into what may cause this increased fraction, compared to the more common Type IIP supernovae and Type II supernovae without subclassifications, is presented. Selection effects are shown not to drive this result, and so we propose that this study provides direct evidence for a high-mass weighted initial mass function within the central regions of disturbed galaxies. 2. Within 'undisturbed' spiral galaxies the radial distribution of Type Ib and Type Ic supernovae is statistically very different, with the latter showing a more centrally concentrated distribution. This could be driven by metallicity gradients in these undisturbed galaxies, or radial variations in other properties (binarity or stellar rotation) driving envelope loss in progenitor stars. This result is not found in 'disturbed' systems, where the distributions of Type Ib and Ic supernovae are consistent.

- We analyze the morphological properties of a large sample of 1503 70um selected galaxies in the COSMOS field spanning the redshift range 0.01<z<3.5 with a median redshift of 0.5 and an infrared luminosity range of 10^8^<L_IR_(8-1000um)<10^14^L_{sun}_ with a median luminosity of 10^11.4^L_{sun}_. In general, these galaxies are massive, with a stellar mass range of 10^10^-10^12^M_{sun}_, and luminous, with -25<M_K_<-20. The precise fraction of mergers in any given L_IR_ bin varies by redshift due to sources at z>1 being difficult to classify and subject to the effects of bandpass shifting; therefore, these numbers can only be considered lower limits. At z<1, where the morphological classifications are most robust, major mergers clearly dominate the ULIRG population (~50%-80%) and are important for the LIRG population (~25%-40%). At z>1, the fraction of major mergers is lower, but is at least 30%-40% for ULIRGs. In a comparison of our visual classifications with several automated classification techniques we find general agreement; however, the fraction of identified mergers is underestimated due to automated classification methods being sensitive to only certain timescales of a major merger. The distribution of the U-V color of the galaxies in our sample peaks in the green valley (<U-V>=1.1) with a large spread at bluer and redder colors and with the major mergers peaking more strongly in the green valley than the rest of the morphological classes.

- Global VLBI and VLBA observations (5GHz) of 293 sources of the CJF-sample have been conducted between 1990 and 2001. In total, thirteen separate observing campaigns have been accumulated. File table2.dat contains results from model-fitting Gaussian components to the data. We list the parameters for 288 sources in Table 2. fig directory contains the corresponding images, built up by restoring the model-fitted components, convolved with the clean beam, into the residual image, which was made by Fourier transforming the visibility data after first subtracting the model-fitted components in the uv-plane. Over-plotted we show symbols to represent the model components.

- We demonstrate a new multiwavelength technique for two-dimensional parametric modelling of galaxy surface-brightness profiles, which we have incorporated into the widely used software GALFIT. Our new method, named GALFITM, extends GALFIT3's current single-band fitting process by simultaneously using multiple images of the same galaxy to constrain a wavelength-dependent model. Each standard profile parameter may vary as a function of wavelength, with a user-definable degree of smoothness, from constant to fully free. The performance of GALFITM is evaluated by fitting elliptical Sersic profiles to ugriz imaging data for 4026 galaxies, comprising the original Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) imaging for 163 low-redshift (v<~7000km/s) galaxies and 3863 artificially redshifted (0.01<~z<~0.25) images of the same galaxies. Comparing results from single-band and multiband techniques, we show that GALFITM significantly improves the extraction of information, particularly from bands with low signal-to-noise ratio (e.g. u and z SDSS bands) when combined with higher signal-to-noise images. We also study systematic trends in the recovered parameters, particularly Sersic index, that appear when one performs measurements of the same galaxies at successively higher redshifts. We argue that it is vital that studies investigating the evolution of galaxy structure are careful to avoid or correct for these biases. The resulting multiband photometric structural parameters for our sample of 163 galaxies are provided. We demonstrate the importance of considering multiband measurements by showing that the Sersic indices of spiral galaxies increase to redder wavelengths, as expected for composite bulge-disc systems. Finally, for the ellipticals in our sample, which should be well represented by single-Sersic models, we compare our measured parameters to those from previous studies.

- We measure the radii and two-dimensional light profiles of a large sample of young, massive star clusters in M83 using archival HST/Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) imaging of seven adjacent fields. We use galfit to fit the two-dimensional light profiles of the clusters, from which we find effective (half-light) radii, core radii, and slopes of the power-law (EFF) profile ({eta}). We find lognormal distributions of effective radius and core radius, with medians of ~2.5 and ~1.3pc, respectively. Our results provide strong evidence for a characteristic size of young, massive clusters. The average effective radius and core radius increase somewhat with cluster age. Little to no change in effective radius is observed with increasing galactocentric distance, except perhaps for clusters younger than 100Myr. We find a shallow correlation between effective radius and mass for the full cluster sample, but a stronger correlation is present for clusters 200-300Myr in age. Finally, the majority of the clusters are best fit by an EFF model with index {eta} <~3.0. There is no strong evidence for change in {eta} with cluster age, mass, or galactocentric distance. Our results suggest that clusters emerge from early evolution with similar radii and are not strongly affected by the tidal field of M83. Mass-loss due to stellar evolution and/or giant molecular cloud interactions appear to dominate cluster expansion in the age range we study.

- We present a catalogue of 1715 early-type galaxies from the literature, spanning the luminosity range from faint dwarf spheroidal galaxies to giant elliptical galaxies. The aim of this catalogue is to be one of the most comprehensive and publicly available collections of data on early-type galaxies. The emphasis in this catalogue lies on dwarf elliptical galaxies, for which some samples with detailed data have been published recently. For almost all of the early-type galaxies included in it, this catalogue contains data on their locations, distances, redshifts, half-light radii, the masses of their stellar populations and apparent magnitudes in various passbands. Data on metallicity and various colours are available for a majority of the galaxies presented here. The data on magnitudes, colours, metallicities and masses of the stellar populations is supplemented with entries that are based on fits to data from simple stellar population models and existing data from observations. Also, some simple transformations have been applied to the data on magnitudes, colours and metallicities in this catalog, in order to increase the homogeneity of this data. Estimates on the Sersic profiles, internal velocity dispersions, maximum rotational velocities, dynamical masses and ages are listed for several hundreds of the galaxies in this catalogue. Finally, each quantity listed in this catalogue is accompanied with information on its source, so that users of this catalogue can easily exclude data that they do not consider as reliable enough for their purposes.

- A survey of 329 nearby galaxies (redshift z<0.045) has been conducted to study the distribution of mass and light within spiral galaxies over a range of environments. The 18 observed clusters and groups span a range of richness, density, and X-ray temperature and are supplemented by a set of 30 isolated field galaxies. Optical spectroscopy taken with the 200inch (5m) Hale Telescope provides separately resolved H{alpha} and [NII] major-axis rotation curves for the complete set of galaxies, which are analyzed to yield velocity widths and profile shapes, extents, and gradients. HI line profiles provide an independent velocity width measurement and a measure of HI gas mass and distribution. I-band images are used to deconvolve profiles into disk and bulge components, to determine global luminosities and ellipticities, and to check morphological classification. These data are combined to form a unified data set ideal for the study of the effects of environment upon galaxy evolution.

- The morphology of galaxies gives essential constraints on the models of galaxy evolution. The morphology of the features in the low-surface-brightness (LSB) regions of galaxies has not been fully explored yet because of observational difficulties. Here we present the results of our visual inspections of very deep images of a large volume-limited sample of 177 nearby massive early-type galaxies from the MATLAS survey. The images reach a surface-brightness limit of 28.5-29mag/arcsec^2^ in the g' band. Using a dedicated navigation tool and questionnaire, we looked for structures at the outskirts of the galaxies such as tidal shells, streams, tails, disturbed outer isophotes, or peripheral star-forming discs, and simultaneously noted the presence of contaminating sources, such as Galactic cirrus. We also inspected internal substructures such as bars and dust lanes. We discuss the reliability of this visual classification investigating the variety of answers made by the participants. We present the incidence of these structures and the trends of the incidence with the mass of the host galaxy and the density of its environment. We find an incidence of shells, stream, and tails of approximately 15%, about the same for each category. For galaxies with masses over 10^11^M_{sun}_, the incidence of shells and streams increases about 1.7 times. We also note a strong unexpected anticorrelation of the incidence of Galactic cirrus with the environment density of the target galaxy. Correlations with other properties of the galaxies, and comparisons to model predictions, will be presented in future papers.

- The table presents tidal parameters and masses of 236 open clusters in the nearest kiloparsecs around the Sun. The parameters are derived from a fitting of three-parameter King profiles to the the observed density distribution. The clusters are sub-sample of the Catalogue of Open Cluster Data and their members are selected from high precision homogeneous all sky catalogue ASCC-2.5 (Kharchenko, 2001, Cat. <I/280>). Up to four cluster membership samples in wide cluster area are considered for every cluster and the best solution is presented in the table. Clusters in the table are sorted by numbers in the COCD order.
