- We investigate small-amplitude light variations in FU Ori occurring in timescales of days and weeks. We seek to determine the mechanisms that lead to these light changes. Methods. The visual light curve of FU Ori gathered by the MOST satellite continuously for 55 days in the 2013-2014 winter season and simultaneously obtained ground-based multi-colour data were compared with the results from a disc and star light synthesis model. Hotspots on the star are not responsible for the majority of observed light variations. Instead, we found that the long periodic family of 10.5-11.4d (presumably) quasi-periods showing light variations up to 0.07 mag may arise owing to the rotational revolution of disc inhomogeneities located between 16-20 solar radii. The same distance is obtained by assuming that these light variations arise because of a purely Keplerian revolution of these inhomogeneities for a stellar mass of 0.7 solar mass. The short-periodic (3-1.38d) small amplitude (0.01mag) light variations show a clear sign of period shortening, similar to what was discovered in the first MOST observations of FU Ori. Our data indicate that these short-periodic oscillations may arise because of changing visibility of plasma tongues (not included in our model), revolving in the magnetospheric gap and/or likely related hotspots as well. Results obtained for the long-periodic 10-11d family of light variations appear to be roughly in line with the colour-period relation, which assumes that longer periods are produced by more external and cooler parts of the disc. Coordinated observations in a broad spectral range are still necessary to fully understand the nature of the short-periodic 1-3d family of light variations and their period changes.

- We extend our initial study of the connection between the UV colour of galaxies and both the inferred stellar mass-to-light ratio, {Upsilon}*, and a mass-to-light ratio referenced to Salpeter initial mass function (IMF) models of the same age and metallicity, {Upsilon}*/{Upsilon}_Sal_, using new UV magnitude measurements for a much larger sample of early-type galaxies, ETGs, with dynamically determined mass-to-light ratios. We confirm the principal empirical finding of our first study, a strong correlation between the GALEX FUV-NUV colour and {Upsilon}*. We show that this finding is not the result of spectral distortions limited to a single passband (e.g. metallicity-dependent line-blanketing in the NUV band), or of the analysis methodology used to measure {Upsilon}*, or of the inclusion or exclusion of the correction for stellar population effects as accounted for using {Upsilon}*/{Upsilon}_Sal_. The sense of the correlation is that galaxies with larger {Upsilon}*, or larger {Upsilon}*/{Upsilon}_Sal_, are bluer in the UV. We conjecture that differences in the low-mass end of the stellar IMF are related to the nature of the extreme horizontal branch stars generally responsible for the UV flux in ETGs. If so, then UV colour can be used to identify ETGs with particular IMF properties and to estimate {Upsilon}*. We also demonstrate that UV colour can be used to decrease the scatter about the Fundamental Plane and Manifold, and to select peculiar galaxies for follow-up with which to further explore the cause of variations in {Upsilon}* and UV colour.

- We present surface photometry of a sample of 52 galaxies from the GALaxy Evolution eXplorer (GALEX) and Two-Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) data archives. These include 32 normal elliptical galaxies, 10 ellipticals with weak LINER or other nuclear activity and 10 star-forming ellipticals or early-type spirals. We examine the spatial distribution of the far-ultraviolet excess in these galaxies, and its correlation with dynamical and stellar population properties of the galaxies.

- We present a reanalysis of far-ultraviolet (FUV) observations of the globular cluster NGC 2808 obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope. These data were first analyzed by Brown and coworkers (2001, Cat. <J/ApJ/562/368>), with an emphasis on the bright, blue horizontal-branch (HB) stars in this cluster. Here, our focus is on the population of fainter FUV sources, which include white dwarfs (WDs), blue stragglers (BSs), and cataclysmic variables (CVs).

- We present Faint Object Camera (FOC) ultraviolet images of the central 14"x14" of Messier 31 and Messier 32. The hot stellar populations detected in the composite UV spectra of these nearby galaxies are partially resolved into individual stars, and their individual colors and apparent magnitudes are measured. We detect 433 stars in M31 and 138 stars in M32, down to detection limits m_F275W_=25.5mag and m_F175W_=24.5mag.

- We present the color-magnitude diagram (CMD) from deep Hubble Space Telescope imaging in the globular cluster NGC 6397. The Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) was used for 126 orbits to image a single field in two colors (F814W, F606W) 5' SE of the cluster center. The field observed overlaps that of archival WFPC2 data from 1994 and 1997 which were used to proper motion (PM) clean the data. Applying the PM corrections produces a remarkably clean CMD which reveals a number of features never seen before in a globular cluster CMD. In our field, the main-sequence stars appeared to terminate close to the location in the CMD of the hydrogen-burning limit predicted by two independent sets of stellar evolution models.

- Besides the astrometric mission of the Gaia satellite, its repeated and high-precision measurements also serve as an all-sky photometric transient survey. The sudden brightenings of the sources are published as Gaia Photometric Science Alerts and are made publicly available, allowing the community to photometrically and spectroscopically follow up on the object. The goal of this paper is to analyze the nature and derive the basic parameters of Gaia18aen, a transient detected at the beginning of 2018. This object coincides with the position of the emission-line star WRAY 15-136. The brightening was classified as a "nova?" on the basis of a subsequent spectroscopic observation. We analyzed two spectra of Gaia18aen and collected the available photometry of the object covering the brightenings in 2018 and also the preceding and following periods of quiescence. Based on this observational data, we derived the parameters of Gaia18aen and discussed the nature of the object. Gaia18aen is the first symbiotic star discovered by Gaia satellite. The system is an S-type symbiotic star and consists of an M giant of a slightly super-solar metallicity, where Teff~3500K, a radius of ~230R_{sun}_, and a high luminosity L~7400L_{sun}_. The hot component is a hot white dwarf. We tentatively determined the orbital period of the system 487d. The main outburst of Gaia18aen in 2018 was accompanied by a decrease in the temperature of the hot component. The first phase of the outburst was characterized by the high luminosity L~27000L_{sun}_, which remained constant for about three weeks after the optical maximum, later followed by the gradual decline of luminosity and increase of temperature. Several re-brightenings have been detected on the timescales of hundreds of days.

- We use LAMOST DR4 M giants combined with Gaia DR2 proper motions and ALLWISE photometry to obtain an extremely pure sample of Sagittarius (Sgr) stream stars. Using TiO5 and CaH spectral indices as indicators, we selected a large sample of M-giant stars from M-dwarf stars in LAMOST DR4 spectra. Considering the position, distance, proper motion, and angular momentum distribution, we obtained 164 pure Sgr stream stars. We find that the trailing arm has higher energy than the leading arm in the same angular momentum. The trailing arm we detected extends to a heliocentric distance of ~130kpc at {Lambda}_{sun}_~170{deg}, which is consistent with the feature found in RR Lyrae in Sesar+ (2017, J/ApJ/844/L4). Both of these detections of Sgr, in M-giants and in RR Lyrae, imply that the Sgr stream may contain multiple stellar populations with a broad metallicity range.

- Gaia16aye was a binary microlensing event, the first such event ever discovered in the direction towards the Northern Galactic Disk and one of the first microlensing events detected and alerted by the Gaia space mission. Its light curve exhibited five distinct brightening episodes, reaching up to 11mag, and was covered in great detail with almost 25000 data points gathered by a network of telescopes. We present the photometric and spectroscopic follow-up covering 500 days of the event evolution and search for a possible microlensing model in order to derive the parameters of the lensing binary system. For Gaia16aye event we employed a full Keplerian binary orbit microlensing model combined with the Earth and Gaia motion around the Sun, to reproduce the complex light curve. The photometric data allowed us to solve the microlensing events entirely and to derive the complete and unique set of orbital parameters of the binary lensing system. We also report on the detection of the first ever microlensing space-parallax between the Earth and Gaia located at L2. The binary system properties were derived from microlensing parameters and we found that the system is composed of two main-sequence stars with masses 0.570.05 M and 0.36+/-0.03M_{sun}_ at 780pc, with an orbital period of 2.88 years and eccentricity of 0.30. We also predict the astrometric microlensing signal for this binary lens as it will be seen by Gaia as well as the radial velocity curve. Events like Gaia16aye indicate the potential for the microlensing method to probe the mass function of dark objects, including black holes, in other directions than the Galactic bulge. This case also emphasises the importance of long-term time-domain coordinated observations which can be done with a network of heterogeneous telescopes.

- Based on data from the ESA Gaia Data Release 2 (DR2) and several ground-based, multi-band photometry surveys we have compiled an all-sky catalogue of 39800 hot subluminous star candidates selected in Gaia DR2 by means of colour, absolute magnitude, and reduced proper motion cuts. We expect the majority of the candidates to be hot subdwarf stars of spectral type B and O, followed by blue horizontal branch stars of late B-type (HBB), hot post-AGB stars, and central stars of planetary nebulae. The contamination by cooler stars should be about 10%.
