- In this Letter, we analyze the radial ultraviolet-optical color distributions in a sample of low redshift green valley galaxies, with the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX)+Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) images, to investigate how the residual recent star formation is distributed in these galaxies. We find that the dust-corrected u-r colors of early-type galaxies (ETGs) are flat out to R_90_, while the colors monotonously turn blue when r>0.5 R_50_ for late-type galaxies (LTGs). More than half of the ETGs are blue-cored and have remarkable positive NUV-r color gradients, suggesting that their star formations are centrally concentrated. The rest have flat color distributions out to R_90_. The centrally concentrated star formation activity in a large portion of ETGs is confirmed by the SDSS spectroscopy, showing that ~50% of the ETGs have EW(H{alpha})>6.0 {AA}. Of the LTGs, 95% show uniform radial color profiles, which can be interpreted as a red bulge plus an extended blue disk. The links between the two kinds of ETGs, e.g., those objects having remarkable "blue-cores" and those having flat color gradients, are less known and require future investigations. It is suggested that the LTGs follow a general model by which quenching first occurs in the core regions, and then finally extend to the rest of the galaxy. Our results can be re-examined and have important implications for the IFU surveys, such as MaNGA and SAMI.

- We have analyzed HST/WFPC2 images of NGC 3597 and find {=~}700 compact objects surrounding the galaxy with an average (B-R)_0_ {=~}0.6. We propose that the majority of these objects are young globular clusters. They have a spread in colors that is consistent with that expected for a population of young clusters with a common age and spread induced by photometric errors and reddening within NGC 3597.

- We use photometry in the F220W, F250W, F330W, F435W filters from the High Resolution Channel of the Advanced Camera for Surveys and photometry in the F555W, F675W, and F814W filters from the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 aboard the Hubble Space Telescope to derive individual stellar reddenings and extinctions for stars in the HD97950 cluster in the giant HII region NGC 3603. The mean line of sight reddening for about a hundred main-sequence member stars inside the cluster is E(F435W-F555W)=1.33+/-0.12mag. After correcting for foreground reddening, the total to selective extinction ratio is R_F555W_=3.75+/-0.87 in the cluster. Within the standard deviation associated with E({lambda}-F555W)/E(F435W-F555W) in each filter, the cluster extinction curve at ultraviolet wavelengths tends to be grayer than the average Galactic extinction laws from Cardelli et al. and Fitzpatrick. It is closer to the extinction law derived by Calzetti et al. for starburst galaxies, where the 0.2175{mu}m bump is absent. This indicates an anomalous extinction in the HD97950 cluster, which may due to the clumpy dust distribution within the cluster, and the size of dust grains being larger than the average Galactic ISM.

- We have obtained V and I images of the lone globular cluster that belongs to the dwarf Local Group irregular galaxy known as WLM. The color-magnitude diagram of the cluster shows that it is a normal old globular cluster with a well-defined giant branch reaching to M_V_=-2.5, a horizontal branch at M_V_=+0.5, and a subgiant branch extending to our photometry limit of M_V_=+2.0. A best fit to theoretical isochrones indicates that this cluster has a metallicity of [Fe/H]=-1.52{+/-}0.08 and an age of 14.8{+/-}0.6 Gyr, thus indicating that it is similar to normal old halo globulars in our Galaxy. From the fit we also find that the distance modulus of the cluster is 24.73{+/-}0.07 and the extinction is A_V_=0.07{+/-}0.06, both values that agree within the errors with data obtained for the galaxy itself by others.

- We present new results concerning the substellar binary population in the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC). Using the Karhunen-Loeve Image Projection algorithm, we have reprocessed images taken with the IR channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 mounted on the Hubble Space Telescope to unveil faint, close companions in the wings of the stellar point-spread functions. Starting with a sample of 1392 bona fide unsaturated cluster members, we detect 39 close-pair cluster candidates with separation 0.16"-0.77". The primary masses span a range Mp~0.015-1.27M_{sun}_, whereas for the companions we derive Mc~0.004-0.54M_{sun}_. Of these 39 binary systems, 18 were already known, while the remaining 21 are new detections. Correcting for completeness and combining our catalog with previously detected ONC binaries, we obtain an overall binary fraction of 11.5%+/-0.9%. Compared to other star-forming regions, our multiplicity function is ~2 times smaller than, for example, Taurus, while compared to the binaries in the field we obtain comparable values. We analyze the mass functions of the binaries, finding differences between the mass distributions of binaries and single stars and between primary and companion mass distributions. The mass ratio shows a bottom-heavy distribution with median value Mc/Mp~0.25. Overall, our results suggest that ONC binaries may represent a template for the typical population of field binaries, supporting the hypothesis that the ONC may be regarded as a most typical star-forming region in the Milky Way.

- In order to obtain a complete census of the stellar and substellar population, down to a few M_Jup_ in the ~1Myr old Orion Nebula Cluster, we used the infrared channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 of the Hubble Space Telescope with the F139M and F130N filters. These bandpasses correspond to the 1.4{mu}m H2O absorption feature and an adjacent line-free continuum region. Out of 4504 detected sources, 3352 (about 75%) appear fainter than m130=14 (Vega mag) in the F130N filter, a brightness corresponding to the hydrogen- burning limit mass (M~0.072M_{sun}_) at ~1Myr. Of these, however, only 742 sources have a negative F130M-F139N color index, indicative of the presence of H2O vapor in absorption, and can therefore be classified as bona fide M and L dwarfs, with effective temperatures T<~2850K at an assumed 1Myr cluster age. On our color-magnitude diagram (CMD), this population of sources with H2O absorption appears clearly distinct from the larger background population of highly reddened stars and galaxies with positive F130M-F139N color index and can be traced down to the sensitivity limit of our survey, m130~21.5, corresponding to a 1Myr old ~3M_Jup_ planetary-mass object under about 2mag of visual extinction. Theoretical models of the BT-Settl family predicting substellar isochrones of 1, 2, and 3 Myr down to ~1M_Jup_ fail to reproduce the observed H2O color index at M<~20M_Jup_. We perform a Bayesian analysis to determine extinction, mass, and effective temperature of each substellar member of our sample, together with its membership probability.

- We present new grids of colors and bolometric corrections for F-K stars having 4000 K {<=} Teff {<=} 6500 K, 0.0 {<=} log(g) {<=} 4.5, and -3.0 {<=} [Fe/H] {<=} 0.0. Colors are tabulated for Johnson U-V and B-V, Cousins V-R and V-I, Johnson-Glass V-K, J-K, and H-K, and CIT/CTIO V-K, J-K, H-K, and CO. We have developed these color-temperature relations by convolving synthetic spectra with the best-determined, photometric filter transmission profiles. The synthetic spectra have been computed with the SSG spectral synthesis code (Bell & Gustafsson 1978; Gustafsson & Bell 1979) using MARCS stellar atmosphere models (Gustafsson et al. 1975; Bell et al. 1976) as input. Both of these codes have been improved substantially, especially at low temperatures, through the incorporation of new opacity data. The resulting synthetic colors have been put onto the observational systems by applying color calibrations derived from models and photometry of field stars that have effective temperatures determined by the infrared flux method. These color calibrations have zero points that change most of the original synthetic colors by less than 0.02 mag, and the corresponding slopes generally alter the colors by less than 5%.

- This catalogue, developed for a new study of the interstellar medium in the solar vicinity, contains estimations of extinction and distances from reliable UBV data and MK types; special attention was paid to the consistency between spectroscopic and photometric data. There are four sets of 2 files: the main set is named CEDDU (Catalogue of Extinctions and Distances Derived from UBV data). Appendices contain stars with discrepant results: negative colour excesses (exneg), apparently very close stars with heavy reddening (avlar), and apparently very far stars with low reddening (asmal). For each set, one file contains a selection of observational data along with derived and computed parameters, and a second file contains the complete set of observational data. Please refer to the enclosed file "intro" (plain ascii) or "intro.tex" (LaTeX) for a more detailed description of the catalogue and how it was built.

- The catalog contains intrinsic ultraviolet colors for normal stars between O6.5V and K3III. These have been derived from the absolute ultraviolet fluxes obtained by the S2/68 Ultraviolet Sky Survey Telescope aboard the ESRO TD1 satellite, corrected to the standard calibration of Bohlin et al. (1981) for the star eta UMa. The catalog contains 671 records, one for each MK spectral type and luminosity class between O6.5Ia and K3V. Each record consists of twenty-five broad- and narrow-band colors in the form (m(lambda) - V)(0) covering the wavelength range 1400A to 2740A. Complementary data including (B-V)(0), (U-B)(0), and absolute visual magnitude, M(v), are also given for each type. The intrinsic ultraviolet colours cover three groups of passbands: (1) Four broadband fluxes (width 330 Angstroms) centred on 1565A, 1965A, 2365A and 2740A. (2) Nine narrowband fluxes (width 110 Angstroms) centred on 1455A, 1565A, 1675A, 1855A, 1965A, 2075A, 2255A, 2365A, 2465A (3) Twelve narrowband fluxes (width 100 Angstroms) centred on 1400A, 1500A, 1600A, 1700A, 1800A, 1900A, 2000A, 2100A, 2200A, 2300A, 2400A, 2500A
