- A new catalogue of 660 galaxies within a field of about 10 square degrees in the Perseus cluster region is presented. The catalogue contains accurate positions, isophotal magnitudes, angular radii, position angles, radial velocities, morphological types, and detailed informations on morphological peculiarities. If available, cross identifications and radial velocities are also given. The catalogue is estimated to be complete to a 25mag isophotal B magnitude of about 18.

- The spectroscopy of background QSO sightlines passing close to foreground galaxies is a potent technique for studying the circumgalactic medium (CGM). However, QSOs are effectively point sources, limiting their potential to constrain the size of circumgalactic gaseous structures. Here we present the first large Keck/Low-resolution Imaging Spectrometer (LRIS) and Very Large Telescope (VLT)/Focal Reducer/Low-dispersion Spectrograph 2 (FORS2) spectroscopic survey of bright (B_AB_<22.3) background galaxies whose lines of sight probe MgII{lambda}{lambda}2796,2803 absorption from the CGM around close projected foreground galaxies at transverse distances 10kpc<R_{perp}_<150kpc. Our sample of 72 projected pairs, drawn from the PRIsm MUlti-object Survey, includes 48 background galaxies that do not host bright active galactic nuclei, and both star-forming and quiescent foreground galaxies with stellar masses of 9.0<logM_*_/M_{sun}_<11.2 at redshifts of 0.35<z_f/g_<0.8. We detect MgII absorption associated with these foreground galaxies with equivalent widths of 0.25{AA}<W_2796_<2.6{AA} at >2{sigma} significance in 20 individual background sightlines passing within R_{perp}_<50kpc and place 2{sigma} upper limits on W_2796_ of <~0.5{AA} in an additional 11 close sightlines. Within R_{perp}_<50kpc, W_2796_ is anticorrelated with R_{perp}_, consistent with analyses of Mg ii absorption detected along background QSO sightlines. Subsamples of these foreground hosts divided at logM_*_/M_{sun}_=9.9 exhibit statistically inconsistent W_2796_ distributions at 30kpc<R_{perp}_<50kpc, with the higher-M* galaxies yielding a larger median W_2796_ by 0.9{AA}. Finally, we demonstrate that foreground galaxies with similar stellar masses exhibit the same median W_2796_ at a given R_{perp}_ to within <0.2{AA} toward both background galaxies and toward QSO sightlines drawn from the literature. Analysis of these data sets constraining the spatial coherence scale of circumgalactic MgII absorption is presented in a companion paper.

- A two-color study of the galaxies detected on POSS-I in a 289deg^2^ region centered on the North Galactic Pole is presented. We use a variety of mapping techniques to characterize the large-scale spatial distribution of galaxies. The depth and sample size of this new survey allows, for the first time, the isolation of large photometric subsamples of galaxies in high- and low-density environments on the scale of superclusters. Our principal finding is a statistically significant difference between the mean photometric properties of these subsamples in the sense that galaxies in the high-density Coma and filament environments have redded colors and larger concentration indices than galaxies drawn from low-density interfilament regions. These results are in agreement with the known morphology-density relation.

- Stars do not form continuously distributed over star-forming galaxies. They form in star clusters of different masses. This nature of clustered star formation is taken into account in the theory of the integrated galactic stellar initial mass function (IGIMF) in which the galaxy-wide initial mass function (IMF) on galaxy-wide scales is calculated by adding all IMFs of young star clusters. For massive stars, the IGIMF is steeper than the universal IMF in star clusters and steepens with decreasing star formation rate (SFR) which is called the IGIMF effect. The current SFR and the total H{alpha} luminosity of galaxies therefore scale nonlinearly in the IGIMF theory compared to the classical case in which the galaxy-wide IMF is assumed to be constant and identical to the IMF in star clusters. Here we apply for the first time the revised SFR-L_H{alpha}_ relation on a sample of local volume star-forming galaxies with measured H{alpha} luminosities.

- We investigate the relationship between low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) and globular clusters (GCs) using United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) observations of M31 and existing Chandra, XMM-Newton and ROSAT catalogues. By fitting King models to these data, we have estimated the structural parameters and stellar collision rates of 239 of its GCs. We show a highly significant trend between the presence of a LMXB and the stellar collision rate of a cluster. The stellar collision rate is found to be a stronger predictor of which clusters will host LMXBs than the host cluster mass. We argue that our results show that the stellar collision rate of the clusters is the fundamental parameter related to the production LMXBs. This is consistent with the formation of LMXBs through dynamical interactions with little direct dependence on the neutron star retention fraction or cluster mass.

- We present a comprehensive temporal and spectral analysis of the long Swift GRB120327A afterglow data to investigate the possible causes of the observed early time colour variations. We collected data from various instruments/telescopes in X-ray, ultra-violet, optical and near-infrared bands and determined the shapes of the afterglow early-time light curves. We studied the overall temporal behaviour and the spectral energy distributions from early to late times. The ultra-violet, optical, and near-infrared light curves can be modelled with a single power-law component between 200 and 2x10^4^s after the burst event. The X-ray light curve shows a canonical steep-shallow-steep behaviour, typical of long gamma-ray bursts. At early times a colour variation is observed in the ultra-violet/optical bands, while at very late times a hint of a re-brightening is visible. The observed early time colour change can be explained as a variation in the intrinsic optical spectral index, rather than an evolution of the optical extinction.

- The catalog contains statistically homogeneous and physically well graunded groups of galaxies based on the CfA2 redshift survey (Cat. J/ApJS/121/287) in the area of space 1000km/s<=cz<=15000km/s, |bII|>=20{deg}. For identification of groups we used a modification of a friends of friends (FoF) method. Principles of friendship and definition of values of presented there free parameters described in Mahtessian (1988Afz....28..255M, 1997Ap.....40..285M). There are 1971 groups with 2 or more members, for a total of 6787 members (46.3%); 765 of the groups have 3 or more members with 4375 galaxies (28.1%). The others 8790 (56.4%) galaxies make a sample of "single" galaxies. The catalog includes group numbers, numbers of members, equatorial coordinates, Virgo-centric radial velocities, line-of-sight-velocity dispersions, integrated group luminosities, and relative quantity of false members.
