- These reddening and interstellar extinction estimates are a result of a series of studies presented in the papers 2009AstL...35..780G, 2010AstL...36..584G, 2012AstL...38...12G, 2012AstL...38...87G, 2017AstL...43..472G and finally 2017MNRAS.472.3805G and 2018MNRAS.475.1121G. The key basis of these estimates is the 3D reddening map of Gontcharov (2017AstL...43..472G, 2017PAZh...43..521G, Cat. J/PAZh/43/521). This map has been tested among eight sources of reddening and extinction estimates for nearly 60,000 Gaia DR1 TGAS main sequence stars younger than 3Gyr with a relative error of the Gaia parallax less than 0.1. The sources are tested in their ability to put the stars among the PARSEC and MIST theoretical isochrones in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram based on the precise Gaia, Tycho-2, 2MASS and WISE photometry. The 3D reddening map of Gontcharov provides both the minimal number of outliers bluer than any reasonable isochrone and the correct number of stars younger than 3Gyr in agreement with the Besancon Galaxy model. In another test Gaia DR1 TGAS parallaxes, Tycho-2 photometry and reddening/extinction estimates from nine data sources for 38,074 giants within 415pc from the Sun are used to compare their position in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram with theoretical estimates, which are based on the PARSEC and MIST isochrones and the TRILEGAL model of the Galaxy with its parameters being widely varied. We conclude that, again, the estimates from the 3D reddening map of Gontcharov, including the median reddening E(B-V)=0.06mag at |b|>50{deg}, give the best fit of the empirical and theoretical data with each other. Based on these studies we present here the best up-to-date reddening, extinction and extinction-to-reddening estimates for the Gaia DR1 TGAS and Hipparcos stars within 415pc from the Sun. The accuracy of the E(B-V) estimates is proved to be better than 0.04mag everywhere in this space.

- We present the hitherto largest sample of gas-phase metallicity radial gradients measured at sub-kpc resolution in star-forming galaxies in the redshift range of 1.2<z<=2.3. These measurements are enabled by the synergy of slitless spectroscopy from the Hubble Space Telescope near-infrared channels and the lensing magnification from foreground galaxy clusters. Our sample consists of 76 galaxies with stellar mass ranging from 10^7^ to 10^10^M_{sun}, an instantaneous star formation rate in the range of [1,100]M_{sun}_/yr, and global metallicity [1/12,2] of solar. At a 2{sigma} confidence level, 15/76 galaxies in our sample show negative radial gradients, whereas 7/76 show inverted gradients. Combining ours and all other metallicity gradients obtained at a similar resolution currently available in the literature, we measure a negative mass dependence of {Delta}log(O/H)/{Delta}r[dex/kpc]=(-0.020+/-0.007)+(-0.016+/-0.008) log(M_*_/10^9.4^M_{sun}_), with the intrinsic scatter being {sigma}=0.060+/-0.006 over 4 orders of magnitude in stellar mass. Our result is consistent with strong feedback, not secular processes, being the primary governor of the chemostructural evolution of star-forming galaxies during the disk mass assembly at cosmic noon. We also find that the intrinsic scatter of metallicity gradients increases with decreasing stellar mass and increasing specific star formation rate. This increase in the intrinsic scatter is likely caused by the combined effect of cold-mode gas accretion and merger-induced starbursts, with the latter more predominant in the dwarf mass regime of M_*_<~10^9^M_{sun}_.

- We use photometry in the F220W, F250W, F330W, F435W filters from the High Resolution Channel of the Advanced Camera for Surveys and photometry in the F555W, F675W, and F814W filters from the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 aboard the Hubble Space Telescope to derive individual stellar reddenings and extinctions for stars in the HD97950 cluster in the giant HII region NGC 3603. The mean line of sight reddening for about a hundred main-sequence member stars inside the cluster is E(F435W-F555W)=1.33+/-0.12mag. After correcting for foreground reddening, the total to selective extinction ratio is R_F555W_=3.75+/-0.87 in the cluster. Within the standard deviation associated with E({lambda}-F555W)/E(F435W-F555W) in each filter, the cluster extinction curve at ultraviolet wavelengths tends to be grayer than the average Galactic extinction laws from Cardelli et al. and Fitzpatrick. It is closer to the extinction law derived by Calzetti et al. for starburst galaxies, where the 0.2175{mu}m bump is absent. This indicates an anomalous extinction in the HD97950 cluster, which may due to the clumpy dust distribution within the cluster, and the size of dust grains being larger than the average Galactic ISM.

- In order to obtain a complete census of the stellar and substellar population, down to a few M_Jup_ in the ~1Myr old Orion Nebula Cluster, we used the infrared channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 of the Hubble Space Telescope with the F139M and F130N filters. These bandpasses correspond to the 1.4{mu}m H2O absorption feature and an adjacent line-free continuum region. Out of 4504 detected sources, 3352 (about 75%) appear fainter than m130=14 (Vega mag) in the F130N filter, a brightness corresponding to the hydrogen- burning limit mass (M~0.072M_{sun}_) at ~1Myr. Of these, however, only 742 sources have a negative F130M-F139N color index, indicative of the presence of H2O vapor in absorption, and can therefore be classified as bona fide M and L dwarfs, with effective temperatures T<~2850K at an assumed 1Myr cluster age. On our color-magnitude diagram (CMD), this population of sources with H2O absorption appears clearly distinct from the larger background population of highly reddened stars and galaxies with positive F130M-F139N color index and can be traced down to the sensitivity limit of our survey, m130~21.5, corresponding to a 1Myr old ~3M_Jup_ planetary-mass object under about 2mag of visual extinction. Theoretical models of the BT-Settl family predicting substellar isochrones of 1, 2, and 3 Myr down to ~1M_Jup_ fail to reproduce the observed H2O color index at M<~20M_Jup_. We perform a Bayesian analysis to determine extinction, mass, and effective temperature of each substellar member of our sample, together with its membership probability.

- We study a sample of 11 Type II supernovae (SNe) discovered by the OGLE-IV survey. All objects have well-sampled I-band light curves, and at least one spectrum. We find that two or three of the 11 SNe have a declining light curve, and spectra consistent with other SNe II-L, while the rest have plateaus that can be as short as 70 d, unlike the 100 d typically found in nearby galaxies. The OGLE SNe are also brighter, and show that magnitude-limited surveys find SNe that are different than usually found in nearby galaxies. We discuss this sample in the context of understanding Type II SNe as a class and their suggested use as standard candles.

- We present an analysis of the ages and star formation history of the F-type stars in the Upper Scorpius (US), Upper Centaurus-Lupus (UCL), and Lower Centaurus-Crux (LCC) subgroups of Scorpius-Centaurus (Sco-Cen), the nearest OB association. Our parent sample is the kinematically selected Hipparcos sample of de Zeeuw et al. (1999, Cat. J/AJ/117/354), restricted to the 138 F-type members. We have obtained classification-resolution optical spectra and have also determined the spectroscopic accretion disk fraction. With Hipparcos and 2MASS photometry, we estimate the reddening and extinction for each star and place the candidate members on a theoretical H-R diagram. For each subgroup we construct empirical isochrones and compare to published evolutionary tracks.

- Mid-infrared extinction spectra (500-6000cm^-1^) of a series of single-component aerosol particle ensembles representative of those found in a range of planetary and lunar atmospheres are presented. The aerosols were generated in the laboratory via condensation from the gas phase in a bath gas cooling cell, and the spectra recorded using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. This paper is the first in a series aimed towards building a spectral database for use in remote sensing of aerosols. The aerosol substances included here are methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, ethylene, acetylene, carbon dioxide, ammonia and sulfur dioxide.

- We derive the extinction curve toward the Galactic center (GC) from 1 to 19um. We use hydrogen emission lines of the minispiral observed by ISO-SWS and SINFONI. The extinction-free flux reference is the 2cm continuum emission observed by the Very Large Array. Toward the inner 14"x20", we find an extinction of A_2.166um_=2.62+/-0.11, with a power-law slope of {alpha}=-2.11+/-0.06 shortward of 2.8um, consistent with the average near-infrared slope from the recent literature. At longer wavelengths, however, we find that the extinction is grayer than shortward of 2.8um. We find that it is not possible to fit the observed extinction curve with a dust model consisting of pure carbonaceous and silicate grains only, and the addition of composite particles, including ices, is needed to explain the observations. Combining a distance-dependent extinction with our distance-independent extinction, we derive the distance to the GC to be R_0_=7.94+/-0.65kpc. Toward Sgr A* (r<0.5"), we obtain A_H_=4.21+/-0.10, A_Ks_=2.42+/-0.10, and A_L'_=1.09+/-0.13.

- We collected observational data on 781 Wolf-Rayet (WR) galaxies from the literature to photometrically study their infrared properties measured by the 2MASS, WISE, IRAS, AKARI, and Herschel missions. It is found that in the 1-5 {mu}m range the radiations of WR galaxies are dominated by the free-free emissions from the stellar winds and the circumstellar dust from the late-type stars in the host galaxy. In the 5-22 {mu}m range, the radiation of WR galaxies is dominated by the free-free emissions and the synchrotron radiation from the central active galactic nucleus (AGN; but not always present). In the 22-140 {mu}m range, the radiations of WR galaxies are dominated by the free-free emissions and the star formation/starburst activities. In the 250-500 {mu}m range, the radiation of WR galaxies is dominated by the free-free emissions. In addition, the comparison with the non-WR galaxies is made. It is shown that some star formation WR galaxies have redder near-infrared colors than non-WR star-forming galaxies probably due to the gas emission in the near-infrared. In the 2-5 {mu}m region WR galaxies have redder colors due to the thermal emission from circumstellar dust of late-type stars and the enhanced gas emission. In the 5-22 {mu}m region, both WR galaxies and non-WR galaxies have similar behavior, indicative of having similar free-free emission as the dominant radiation. In the 25-140 {mu}m region, both types of galaxies also have similar behavior, indicative of having free-free emission from the stellar winds or the thermal radiation from the starburst/star formation as the dominant radiation.

- In this paper, we address two issues related to primordial disk evolution in three clusters (NGC1333, IC348, and OrionA) observed by the INfrared Spectra of Young Nebulous Clusters (IN-SYNC) project. First, in each cluster, averaged over the spread of age, we investigate how disk lifetime is dependent on stellar mass. The general relation in IC348 and OrionA is that primordial disks around intermediate-mass stars (2-5M_{sun}_) evolve faster than those around loss-mass stars (0.1-1M_{sun}_), which is consistent with previous results. However, considering only low-mass stars, we do not find a significant dependence of disk frequency on stellar mass. These results can help to better constrain theories on gas giant planet formation timescales. Second, in the OrionA molecular cloud, in the mass range of 0.35-0.7M_{sun}_, we provide the most robust evidence to date for disk evolution within a single cluster exhibiting modest age spread. By using surface gravity as an age indicator and employing 4.5{mu}m excess as a primordial disk diagnostic, we observe a trend of decreasing disk frequency for older stars. The detection of intra-cluster disk evolution in NGC1333 and IC348 is tentative, since the slight decrease of disk frequency for older stars is a less than 1{sigma} effect.
