- Using ISO-ISOPHOT, we carried out a survey of almost 150 stars to search for evidence of emission from dust orbiting young main-sequence stars, both in clusters and isolated systems. Over half of the detections are new examples of dusty stellar systems and demonstrate that such dust can be detected around numerous stars older than a few times 10^6^yr. Fluxes at 60 and either 90 or 100{mu}m or the new excess sources together with improved fluxes for a number of IRAS-identified sources are presented. Analysis of the excess luminosity relative to the stellar photosphere shows a systematic decline of this excess with stellar age consistent with a power-law index of -2.

- We study a 24um selected sample of 330 galaxies observed with the infrared spectrograph for the 5mJy Unbiased Spitzer Extragalactic Survey (5MUSES). We estimate accurate total infrared luminosities by combining mid-IR spectroscopy and mid-to-far infrared photometry, and by utilizing new empirical spectral templates from Spitzer data. The infrared luminosities of this sample range mostly from 10^9^L_{sun}_ to 10^13.5^L_{sun}_, with 83% in the range 10^10^L_{sun}_<L_IR_<10^12^L_{sun}_. The redshifts range from 0.008 to 4.27, with a median of 0.144. The equivalent widths of the 6.2um aromatic feature have a bimodal distribution, probably related to selection effects. We use the 6.2um polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon equivalent width (PAH EW) to classify our objects as starburst (SB)-dominated (44%), SB-AGN composite (22%), and active galactic nucleus (AGN)-dominated (34%). The high EW objects (SB-dominated) tend to have steeper mid-IR to far-IR spectral slopes and lower LIR and redshifts.

- We present near-IR (J and Ks) number counts and colors of galaxies detected in deep VLT-ISAAC images centered on the Chandra Deep Field (03h 32min 16s, -27{deg} 47' 25") and on the Hubble Deep Field-South. (22h 32min 55s, -60{deg} 33' 08"). The data have been obtained with the ISAAC infrared imager/spectrometer at the ESO VLT-UT1 telescope on several nights from September to December 1999 (seeing conditions around 0.7arcsec). The limiting surface brightness (1 sigma) obtained is 24.5mag/arcsec^2^ in J and 22mag/arcsec^2^ in Ks.

- We present a thorough study of the specific star formation rates (sSFRs) for MIPS 24um selected galaxies in the Coma cluster. We build galaxy spectral energy distributions using optical (u', g', r', i', z'), near-infrared (J, H, Ks), and mid- to far-infrared (Infrared Array Camera and MIPS) photometry. New and archival spectra confirm 210 cluster members. Subsequently, the total infrared luminosity, galaxy stellar mass, and sSFR for the members are determined by measuring best-fit templates. Using an array of complementary diagnostics, we search for any contaminating active galactic nuclei, but find few. We compare obscured SFRs to unobscured rates derived from extinction-corrected H{alpha} emission line measurements. The agreement between these two values leads us to conclude that there is no evidence for an additionally obscured component. In our spectroscopic sample, complete to 80% for r'<19.5, we find that all starbursts are blue and are dwarfs, having masses <10^9^M_{sun}_. Examining the location of these starbursts within the cluster, we confirm that there is a lower fraction in the cluster core.

- Photometric observations in the near infrared for 161 S stars, including 18 Tc-rich (intrinsic) stars, 19 Tc-deficient (extrinsic) ones and 124 candidates for Tc-deficient S stars, are presented in this paper. Based on some further investigations into the infrared properties of both Tc-rich and Tc-deficient S stars, 104 candidates are identified as very likely Tc-deficient S stars. The large number of infrared-selected Tc-deficient S stars provides a convenient way to study the physical properties and the evolutionary status of this species of S stars.

- We systematically investigate the near- to far-infrared (FIR) photometric properties of a nearly complete sample of local active galactic nuclei (AGNs) detected in the Swift/Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) all-sky ultra-hard X-ray (14-195keV) survey. Out of 606 non-blazar AGNs in the Swift/BAT 70 month catalog at high galactic latitudes of |b|>10{deg}, we obtain IR photometric data of 604 objects by cross-matching the AGN positions with catalogs from the WISE, AKARI, IRAS, and Herschel infrared observatories. We find a good correlation between the ultra-hard X-ray and mid-IR luminosities over five orders of magnitude (41<logL_14-195_<46). Informed by previous measurements of the intrinsic spectral energy distribution of AGNs, we find FIR pure-AGN candidates whose FIR emission is thought to be AGN-dominated with low star-formation activity. We demonstrate that the dust covering factor decreases with the bolometric AGN luminosity, confirming the luminosity-dependent unified scheme. We also show that the completeness of the WISE color-color cut in selecting Swift/BAT AGNs increases strongly with 14-195keV luminosity.

- We describe the infrared (IR) photometric system for the single channel photometers at ESO, which have been used from 1983 until 1994. In addition to the broadband near infrared (NIR, 1-5{mu}m) photometric system presented in 1991 by Bouchet et al. and Bersanelli et al., we describe a narrow-band NIR photometric system and a mid infrared (MIR, 7-20{mu}m) photometric system. We also extend the set of NIR standard stars by Bouchet et al. towards fainter objects (K=~9). The photometric data of the standard stars in these systems were extracted from the complete IR photometric data archive of ESO, covering 10 years. The zeropoints of the NIR photometry are set by assuming that HR 3314 has a V-magnitude of 3.89, and that V-K=-0.05, J-K=-0.01, H-K=-0.01, K-L'=0.00, K-M=0.00. The zeropoints of the MIR photometry are set by assuming that the colours of{beta} Hyi (HR 0098) and {alpha} CenA (HR 5459) are equal to the colours of the Sun. We adopt the absolute calibration of Megessier (1995A&A...296..771M) for the NIR and we argue that this calibration can be extrapolated to 20{mu}m, using the MIR calibrations by Rieke et al. (1985AJ.....90..900R) and Cohen et al. (1992AJ....104.1650C). The definition of the zeropoints is consistent with the absolute calibration. We obtained accurate ({sigma}=~0.02mag.) NIR photometry of about 240 standard stars and MIR photometry of about 40 standard stars ({sigma}=~0.04mag). Comparison of our NIR photometric system with other well established systems shows that there are some small colour dependencies and zeropoint offsets which are always smaller than about 0.02mag. except for the L' band.

- We compare the near-infrared (JHK) globular cluster luminosity functions (GCLFs) of the Milky Way, M31, and the Sculptor Group spiral galaxies. We obtained near-infrared photometry with the Persson's Auxiliary Nasmyth Infrared Camera on the Baade Telescope for 38 objects (mostly globular cluster candidates) in the Sculptor Group. We also have near-infrared photometry from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS)-6X database for 360 M31 globular cluster candidates and aperture photometry for 96 Milky Way globular cluster candidates from the 2MASS All-Sky and Second Incremental Release databases.

- We use all available fields with deep NICMOS imaging to search for J_110_-dropouts (H_160,AB_<~28) at z~10. Our primary data set for this search is the two J_110_+H_160_ NICMOS fields taken in parallel with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) Hubble Ultra Deep Field (UDF). The 5{sigma} limiting magnitudes were ~28.6 in J_110_ and ~28.5 in H_160_ (0.6" apertures).
