- Two new stellar associations in vicinity of the Sun

- Description:
- In this work we report the discovery of two new stellar associations in close vicinity of the Sun at roughly 180 and 150pc. These two associations, u-Tau assoc and e-Tau assoc, were detected based on their clustering in a multi-dimensional parameter space including {alpha}, {delta}, {mu}_{alpha}_, {mu}_{delta}_, and \bar{omega} of Gaia. The fitting of pre-main-sequence model isochrones in their color-magnitude diagrams suggests that the two associations are of about 50Myr old and the group members lower than ~0.8M_{sun}_ are at the stage of post-T Tauri.

- Tycho-2 stars with IR excess

- Description:
- Stars of all evolutionary phases have been found to have excess infrared emission due to the presence of circumstellar material. To identify such stars, we have positionally correlated the infrared Mid-Course Space Experiment (MSX) Point Source Catalogue (<V/114>) and the Tycho-2 optical catalogue (<I/259>). Near-mid-infrared colour criteria have been developed to select infrared excess stars. The search yielded 1938 excess stars; over half (979) have never previously been detected by IRAS. The excess stars were found to be young objects such as Herbig Ae/Be and Be stars, and evolved objects such as OH/IR (infrared) and carbon stars. A number of B-type excess stars were also discovered whose infrared colours could not be readily explained by known catalogued objects.

- Description:
- We have performed new wide-field photometry of the young open cluster NGC6231 to study the shape of the initial mass function (IMF) and mass segregation. We also investigated the reddening law toward NGC6231 from optical to mid-infrared color excess ratios, and found that the total-to-selective extinction ratio is R_V_=3.2, which is very close to the normal value. But many early-type stars in the cluster center show large color excess ratios. We derived the surface density profiles of four member groups, and found that they reach the surface density of field stars at about 10', regardless of stellar mass. The IMF of NGC6231 is derived for the mass range 0.8-45M_{sun}_. The slope of the IMF of NGC6231 ({Gamma}=-1.1+/-0.1) is slightly shallower than the canonical value, but the difference is marginal. In addition, the mass function varies systematically, and is a strong function of radius-it is very shallow at the center, and very steep at the outer ring suggesting the cluster is mass segregated. We confirm the mass segregation for the massive stars (m>~8 M_{sun}_) by a minimum spanning tree analysis. Using a Monte Carlo method, we estimate the total mass of NGC6231 to be about 2.6(+/-0.6)*10^3^M_{sun}_. We constrain the age of NGC 6231 by comparison with evolutionary isochrones. The age of the low-mass stars ranges from 1 to 7Myr with a slight peak at 3Myr. However, the age of the high-mass stars depends on the adopted models and is 3.5+/-0.5Myr from the non-rotating or moderately rotating models of Brott et al. (2011, cat. J/A+A/530/A115) as well as the non-rotating models of Ekstrom et al. (2012, cat. J/A+A/537/A146). But the age is 4.0-7.0Myr if the rotating models of Ekstrom et al. (2012, cat. J/A+A/537/A146) are adopted. This latter age is in excellent agreement with the timescale of ejection of the high-mass runaway star HD153919 from NGC6231, albeit the younger age cannot be entirely excluded.

- UBVRI and H{alpha} in NGC 6530
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/120/333
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- New UBVRI and H{alpha} photometry has been obtained for the young open cluster NGC 6530 located 10' east of the Lagoon Nebula (M8). We found 37 pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars with H{alpha} emission and nine PMS candidates using the R-H{alpha} color, a measure of H{alpha} emission. From this new photometry we derived the cluster parameters (V_0_-M_V_=11.25+/-0.1mag and E(B-V)=0.35mag), typical age (1.5Myr), and an age spread of about 5Myr. We confirmed the presence of a small amount of differential reddening across the cluster. We also verified the abnormal reddening law for the cluster, especially for a heavily embedded O7 V star, Herschel 36. Comparisons were made for several PMS evolution models with regard to the resulting age distribution and the initial mass function.

- UBVRIcJHKL photometry in Lup
- Short Name:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- In a recent study, some 130 new weak-line T Tauri stars (WTTS) have been discovered in the Lupus star forming region (SFR). Some of these stars are seen projected onto regions of high obscuration, while others are located far from the Lupus dark clouds. In this paper we present photometric observations of a large sample of these WTTS. We estimate effective temperatures and luminosities for the stars observed, and derive masses and ages by comparison with theoretical evolutionary tracks. The photometric observations were performed at the ESO 1 m-Telescope during two observing runs in 1993 (March 10-12) and 1994 (May 1-6) at ESO, La Silla. The typical standard deviations are 0.01mag in V, 0.02mag in B-V, 0.04mag in U-B, 0.01 in V-R and V-I. - Short Name:

- Date:

- Description:
- The very young open cluster NGC 6383 centered on the O-star binary HD 159176 is an interesting place for studying the impact of early-type stars with strong radiation fields and powerful winds on the formation processes of low-mass stars. To investigate this process, it is necessary to determine the characteristics (age, presence, or absence of circumstellar material) of the population of low-mass pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars in the cluster. We obtained deep U B V Rc Ic H{alpha} photometric data of the entire cluster as well as medium-resolution optical spectroscopy of a subsample of X-ray selected objects. Our spectroscopic data reveal only very weak H{alpha} emission lines in a few X-ray selected PMS candidates. We photometrically identify a number of H-{alpha} emission candidates but their cluster membership is uncertain. We find that the fainter objects in the field of view have a wide range of extinction (up to A_V_=20), one X-ray selected OB star having A_V_~8. Our investigation uncovers a population of PMS stars in NGC 6383 that are probably coeval with HD 159176. In addition, we detect a population of reddened objects that are probably located at different depths within the natal molecular cloud of the cluster. Finally, we identify a rather complex spatial distribution of H{alpha} emitters, which is probably indicative of a severe contamination by foreground and background stars.

- UBVRIJHKLMNQ photometry in Taurus-Auriga
- Short Name:
- J/ApJS/101/117
- Date:

- Publisher:

- Description:
- This paper analyzes optical and infrared photometry of pre-main- sequence stars in the Taurus-Auriga molecular cloud. More than half of the stars in our sample have excess near-infrared emission. The near-infrared excesses correlate very well with other measures of activity, such as Halpha emission, ultraviolet excess emission, millimeter continuum emission, and the presence of reflection nebulae and molecular outflows. The infrared colors and the ratio of far-infrared to bolometric luminosity display a smooth progression from the most deeply embedded protostars to optically visible T Tauri stars. Infalling envelope models account for the colors of protostars; simple disk models similarly reproduce the colors of many T Tauri stars. Both the stellar birth line and a 10^5yr isochrone provide a reasonable upper envelope to the luminosity distribution of optically visible stars in the H-R diagram. Only a few stars in the cloud have apparent ages exceeding 2-3x10^6yr, as derived from detailed stellar evolution calculations. The distribution of stars in the H-R diagram indicates that the cloud has formed stars at a roughly constant rate for the past 1-2x10^6yr. Analyses of the J- and K-luminosity functions support this conclusion. Within the uncertainties, the observed mass distribution for optically visible stars agrees with a Miller-Scalo initial mass function. Source statistics imply a lifetime of 1-2x10^5yr for the typical protostar in Taurus-Auriga. There is no evidence, however, that these sources lie on the stellar birth line. Indeed, the protostellar luminosity function is essentially identical to the luminosity function derived for optically visible T Tauri stars in the cloud. These results provide some support for the evolutionary sequence -- embedded protostar -> T Tauri star with a circumstellar disk -> T Tauri star without a circumstellar disk -- currently envisioned in standard models of low-mass star formation. Source statistics and infrared color-color diagrams demonstrate that pre-main-sequence stars develop bluer colors and display less evidence for circumstellar material with time. The data show little evidence, however, for the luminosity evolution expected along the proposed evolutionary sequence. Time-dependent accretion during the infall phase may account for the low luminosity of Taurus-Auriga protostars; this hypothesis requires more tests.

- Short Name:
- J/A+A/509/A104
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The analysis of our deep UBVRIJHK photometry of Dolidze 25, located in the central area of the HII region Sh 2-284, reveals a young cluster with coeval MS and PMS populations of age 3.2-5Myr. The mass function for the optical PMS population in the mass range above 1.3-3.5M_{sun}_ is well fitted by a Salpeter mass function. On the other hand, the NIR photometry results indicate a large number of sources with H-Ks excess, practically distinct from the optical PMS candidate members. In addition, a distinctly older cluster member population of age 40Myr is suggested. The distance determined for the cluster from quantitative fits to ZAMS and isochrones (3.6kpc) is distinctly lower than previously published values. This result originates in the consistent use of low metallicity models for ZAMS fitting, applying published metallicity values for the cluster

- Description:
- We have monitored the photometric, spectroscopic and polarimetric variations of the classical T Tauri star (CTTS) AA Tau over a period of a month. The light curve consists of more than 260 measurements in each of the B and V-bands over a continuous time period of 30 days and more than 180 measurements in the R and I-bands. This provides unprecedented detail of the photometric variations of a CTTS on timescales ranging from hours to weeks.
