- We use three years of data from the Swift/Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) survey to select a complete sample of X-ray blazars above 15keV. This sample comprises 26 flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and 12 BL Lacertae (BL Lac) objects detected over a redshift range of 0.03<z<4.0. We use this sample to determine, for the first time in the 15-55keV band, the evolution of blazars. We find that, contrary to the Seyfert-like active galactic nuclei (AGNs) detected by BAT, the population of blazars shows strong positive evolution. This evolution is comparable to the evolution of luminous optical quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) and luminous X-ray-selected AGNs. We also find evidence for an epoch dependence of the evolution as determined previously for radio-quiet AGNs. We interpret both these findings as a strong link between accretion and jet activity. In our sample, the FSRQs evolve strongly, while our best fit shows that BL Lac objects might not evolve at all. The blazar population accounts for 10%-20% (depending on the evolution of the BL Lac objects) of the cosmic X-ray background (CXB) in the 15-55keV band. We find that FSRQs can explain the entire CXB emission for energies above 500 keV solving the mystery of the generation of the MeV background. The evolution of luminous FSRQs shows a peak in redshift (z_c_=4.3+/-0.5) which is larger than the one observed in QSOs and X-ray-selected AGNs. We argue that FSRQs can be used as tracers of massive elliptical galaxies in the early universe.

- We search for superflares from 4068 cool stars in 2+yr of Evryscope photometry, focusing on those with high-cadence data from both Evryscope and the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). The Evryscope array of small telescopes observed 575 flares from 284 stars, with a median energy of 1034.0erg. Since 2016, Evryscope has enabled the detection of rare events from all stars observed by TESS through multi-year, high-cadence continuous observing. We report around twice the previous largest number of 1034erg high-cadence flares from nearby cool stars. We find eight flares with amplitudes of 3+g' magnitudes, with the largest reaching 5.6mag and releasing 1036.2erg. We observe a 1034erg superflare from TOI-455 (LTT1445), a mid-M with a rocky planet candidate. We measure the superflare rate per flare-star and quantify the average flaring of active stars as a function of spectral type, including superflare rates, flare frequency distributions, and typical flare amplitudes in g'. We confirm superflare morphology is broadly consistent with magnetic reconnection. We estimate starspot coverage necessary to produce superflares, and hypothesize maximum allowed superflare energies and waiting times between flares corresponding to 100% coverage of the stellar hemisphere. We observe decreased flaring at high Galactic latitudes. We explore the effects of superflares on ozone loss to planetary atmospheres: we observe one superflare with sufficient energy to photodissociate all ozone in an Earth-like atmosphere in one event. We find 17 stars that may deplete an Earth-like atmosphere via repeated flaring. Of the 1822 stars around which TESS may discover temperate rocky planets, we observe 14.6%{+/-}2% emit large flares.

- Using photometric data collected by Evryscope-South, we search for nearby young variable systems on the upper main sequence (UMS) and pre-main sequence (PMS). The Evryscopes are all-sky high-cadence telescope arrays operating in the Northern and Southern hemispheres. We base our search on a Gaia-selected catalog of young neighborhood upper- and pre-main sequence stars which were chosen through both astrometric and photometric criteria. We analyze 44971 Evryscope-South light curves in search of variability. We recover 615 variables, with 378 previously known, and 237 new discoveries including 84 young eclipsing binaries (EB) candidates. We discover a new highly eccentric binary system and recover a further four previously known systems, with periods ranging from 299 to 674hr. We find 158 long-period (>50hr) candidate EB systems, 9 from the PMS and 149 from the UMS, which will allow constraints on the mass/radius/age relation. These long-period EBs include a 179.3hr PMS system and a 867.8hr system from the UMS. For PMS variable candidates we estimate system ages, which range from 1 to 23Myr for non-EBs and from 2 to 17Myr for EBs. Other non-EB discoveries that show intrinsic variability will allow relationships between stellar rotation rates, ages, activity, and mass to be characterized.

- We present a catalog of X-ray sources observed during slew maneuvers by the Medium Energy Detector Array onboard the EXOSAT Observatory. The EXOSAT Medium Energy slew-survey catalog (EXMS) provides a unique record of the 1-8keV X-ray sky between 1983 and 1986. 98% of the sky was observed, with 85% receiving an exposure of >60s. 1210 sources were detected. By comparing these source positions with other catalogs, identifications are given for 992 detections (82% of the sample). These identifications consist of 250 distinct objects, including 95 different X-ray binary systems, and 14 different AGN. A further 58 detections have multiple candidates, while 160 detections remain unidentified. Collimator transmission corrected 1-8keV count rates are given for the identified sources, together with raw count rates for the other detections. The construction of the EXMS and the checks performed to ensure the validity of the derived source properties are discussed. A publically available version of this catalog is maintained on the EXOSAT database and archive system (telnet://xrayxosat.estec.esa.nl).

- We present 2241 exoplanet candidates identified with data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) during its 2yr Prime Mission. We list these candidates in the TESS Objects of Interest (TOI) Catalog, which includes both new planet candidates found by TESS and previously known planets recovered by TESS observations. We describe the process used to identify TOIs, investigate the characteristics of the new planet candidates, and discuss some notable TESS planet discoveries. The TOI catalog includes an unprecedented number of small planet candidates around nearby bright stars, which are well suited for detailed follow-up observations. The TESS data products for the Prime Mission (sectors 1-26), including the TOI catalog, light curves, full-frame images, and target pixel files, are publicly available at the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes.

- Located at Dome A, the highest point of the Antarctic plateau, the Chinese Kunlun station is considered to be one of the best ground-based photometric sites because of its extremely cold, dry, and stable atmosphere. A target can be monitored from there for over 40 days without diurnal interruption during a polar winter. This makes Kunlun station a perfect site to search for short- period transiting exoplanets. Since 2008, an observatory has existed at Kunlun station, and three telescopes are working there. Using these telescopes, the AST3 project has been carried out over the last 6yr with a search for transiting exoplanets as one of its key programs (CHinese Exoplanet Searching Program from Antarctica --CHESPA). In the austral winters of 2016 and 2017, a set of target fields in the southern continuous viewing zone (CVZ) of TESS were monitored by the AST3-II telescope. In this paper, we introduce the CHESPA and present the first data release containing photometry of 26,578 bright stars (m_i_<=15). The best photometric precision at the optimum magnitude for the survey is around 2 mmag. To demonstrate the data quality, we also present a catalog of 221 variables with a brightness variation greater than 5mmag from the 2016 data. Among these variables, 179 are newly identified periodic variables not listed in the AAVSO database (https://www.aavso.org/), and 67 are listed in the Candidate Target List. These variables will require careful attention to avoid false-positive signals when searching for transiting exoplanets.

- We report first results from the CHinese Exoplanet Searching Program from Antarctica (CHESPA)--a wide-field high-resolution photometric survey for transiting exoplanets carried out using telescopes of the AST3 (Antarctic Survey Telescopes times 3) project. There are now three telescopes (AST3-I, AST3-II, and CSTAR-II) operating at Dome A --the highest point on the Antarctic Plateau-- in a fully automatic and remote mode to exploit the superb observing conditions of the site, and its long and uninterrupted polar nights. The search for transiting exoplanets is one of the key projects for AST3. During the austral winters of 2016 and 2017 we used the AST3-II telescope to survey a set of target fields near the southern ecliptic pole, falling within the continuous viewing zone of the TESS mission. The first data release of the 2016 data, including images, catalogs, and light curves of 26578 bright stars (7.5<=m_i_<=15), was presented in Zhang+ (2018, J/ApJS/240/16). The best precision, as measured by the rms of the light curves at the optimum magnitude of the survey (m_i_=10), is around 2mmag. We detect 222 objects with plausible transit signals from these data, 116 of which are plausible transiting exoplanet candidates according to their stellar properties as given by the TESS Input Catalog, Gaia DR2, and TESS-HERMES spectroscopy. With the first data release from TESS expected in late 2018, this candidate list will be timely for improving the rejection of potential false-positives.

- We extend the source sample recently observed by the Breakthrough Listen Initiative by including additional stars (with parallaxes measured by Gaia) that also reside within the FWHM of the GBT and Parkes radio telescope target fields. These stars have estimated distances as listed in the extensions of the Gaia DR2 catalogue. Enlarging the sample from 1327 to 288315 stellar objects permits us to achieve substantially better Continuous Waveform Transmitter Rate Figures of Merit (CWTFM) than any previous analysis, and allows us to place the tightest limits yet on the prevalence of nearby high-duty-cycle extraterrestrial transmitters. The results suggest <~0.0660(+0.0004,-0.0003)% of stellar systems within 50 pc host such transmitters (assuming an EIRP>~10^13^W) and <~0.039(+0.004,-0.008)% within 200pc (assuming an EIRP>~2.5*10^14^W). We further extend our analysis to much greater distances, though we caution that the detection of narrow-band signals beyond a few hundred pc may be affected by interstellar scintillation. The extended sample also permits us to place new constraints on the prevalence of extraterrestrial transmitters by stellar type and spectral class. Our results suggest targeted analyses of SETI radio data can benefit from taking into account the fact that in addition to the target at the field centre, many other cosmic objects reside within the primary beam response of a parabolic radio telescope. These include foreground and background galactic stars, but also extragalactic systems. With distances measured by Gaia, these additional sources can be used to place improved limits on the prevalence of extraterrestrial transmitters, and extend the analysis to a wide range of cosmic objects.

- The Extended Chandra Deep Field-South (ECDFS) survey consists of four Chandra X-Ray Observatory ACIS-I pointings and covers ~1100arcmin^2^ (~0.3{deg}^2^) centered on the original CDF-S field to a depth of approximately 228ks. This is the largest Chandra survey ever conducted at such depth, and only one XMM-Newton survey reaches a lower flux limit in the hard 2.0-8.0keV band. We detect 651 unique sources: 587 using a conservative source-detection threshold and 64 using a lower source-detection threshold. These are presented as two separate catalogs. Of the 651 total sources, 561 are detected in the full 0.5-8.0keV band, 529 in the soft 0.5-2.0keV band, and 335 in the hard 2.0-8.0keV band. For point sources near the aim point, the limiting fluxes are approximately 1.7x10^-16^ and 3.9x10^-16^ergs/cm^2^/s in the 0.5-2.0 and 2.0-8.0keV bands, respectively. Using simulations, we determine the catalog completeness as a function of flux and assess uncertainties in the derived fluxes due to incomplete spectral information. We present the differential and cumulative flux distributions, which are in good agreement with the number counts from previous deep X-ray surveys and with the predictions from an active galactic nucleus (AGN) population synthesis model that can explain the X-ray background. In general, fainter sources have harder X-ray spectra, consistent with the hypothesis that these sources are mainly obscured AGNs.

- There is a known tension between cosmological parameter constraints obtained from the primary cosmic microwave background (CMB) and those from galaxy cluster samples. One possible explanation for this discrepancy could be that the incompleteness of detected clusters is higher than estimated, and certain types of groups or clusters of galaxy have been missed in the past. We aim to search for galaxy groups and clusters with particularly extended surface brightness distributions, by creating a new X-ray selected catalog of extended galaxy clusters from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS), using a dedicated source detection and characterization algorithm optimized for extended sources. Our state-of-the-art algorithm includes multi-resolution filtering, source detection and characterization. Through extensive simulations, the detection efficiency and sample purity are investigated. Previous cluster catalogs in X-ray and other wave-bands, as well as spectroscopic and photometric redshifts of galaxies are used for the cluster identification. We report a catalog of galaxy clusters at high galactic latitude based on the ROSAT All-sky Survey, named as RASS-based extended X-ray Galaxy Cluster Catalog (RXGCC), which includes 944 groups and clusters. Out of this number, 641 clusters have been identified through intra-cluster medium (ICM) emission previously (Bronze), 154 known optical and infrared clusters are detected as X-ray clusters for the first time (Silver), and 149 identified as clusters for the first time (Gold). Based on 200 simulations, the contamination ratio of the detections which were identified as clusters by ICM emission, and the detections which were identified as optical and infrared clusters in previous work is 0.008 and 0.100, respectively. Compared with Bronze sample, the Gold+Silver sample is less luminous, less massive, and has a flatter surface brightness profile. Specifically, the median flux in [0.1-2.4]keV band for Gold + Silver and Bronze sample is 2.496x10^-12^erg/s/cm^2^ and 4.955x10^-12^erg/s/cm^2^, respectively. The median value of {beta} (the slope of cluster surface brightness profile) is 0.76 and 0.83 for Gold + Silver and Bronze sample, respectively.
