- We study the relationship between stellar mass, star formation rate (SFR), ionization state, and gas-phase metallicity for a sample of 41 normal star-forming galaxies at 3<~z<~3.7. The gas-phase oxygen abundance, ionization parameter, and electron density of ionized gas are derived from rest-frame optical strong emission lines measured on near-infrared spectra obtained with Keck/Multi-Object Spectrograph for Infra-Red Exploration. We remove the effect of these strong emission lines in the broadband fluxes to compute stellar masses via spectral energy distribution fitting, while the SFR is derived from the dust-corrected ultraviolet luminosity. The ionization parameter is weakly correlated with the specific SFR, but otherwise the ionization parameter and electron density do not correlate with other global galaxy properties such as stellar mass, SFR, and metallicity. The mass-metallicity relation (MZR) at z~3.3 shows lower metallicity by ~0.7dex than that at z=0 at the same stellar mass. Our sample shows an offset by ~0.3dex from the locally defined mass-metallicity-SFR relation, indicating that simply extrapolating such a relation to higher redshift may predict an incorrect evolution of MZR. Furthermore, within the uncertainties we find no SFR-metallicity correlation, suggesting a less important role of SFR in controlling the metallicity at high redshift. We finally investigate the redshift evolution of the MZR by using the model by Lilly et al. (2013ApJ...772..119L), finding that the observed evolution from z=0 to z~3.3 can be accounted for by the model assuming a weak redshift evolution of the star formation efficiency.

- The existence of submillimeter-selected galaxies (SMGs) at redshifts z>4 has recently been confirmed. Simultaneously using all the available data from UV to radio, we have modeled the spectral energy distributions of the six known spectroscopically confirmed SMGs at z>4. We find that their star formation rates (average ~2500M_{sun}_/yr), stellar (~3.6x10^11^M_{sun}_) and dust (~6.7x10^8^M_{sun}_) masses, extinction (A_V_~2.2mag), and gas-to-dust ratios (~60) are within the ranges for 1.7<z<3.6 SMGs. Our analysis suggests that infrared-to-radio luminosity ratios of SMGs do not change up to redshift ~5 and are lower by a factor of ~2.1 than the value corresponding to the local IR-radio correlation. However, we also find dissimilarities between z>4 and lower-redshift SMGs. Those at z>4 tend to be among the most star-forming, least massive, and hottest (~60K) SMGs and exhibit the highest fraction of stellar mass formed in the ongoing starburst (~45%).

- Early-time observations of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are essential to constrain the properties of their progenitors. In this paper, we present high-quality light curves of 127 SNe Ia discovered by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) in 2018. We describe our method to perform forced point-spread function photometry, which can be applied to other types of extragalactic transients. With a planned cadence of six observations per night (three g + three r), all of the 127 SNe Ia are detected in both g and r bands more than 10 days (in the rest frame) prior to the epoch of g-band maximum light. The redshifts of these objects range from z=0.0181 to 0.165; the median redshift is 0.074. Among the 127 SNe, 50 are detected at least 14 days prior to maximum light (in the rest frame), with a subset of nine objects being detected more than 17 days before g-band peak. This is the largest sample of young SNe Ia collected to date; it can be used to study the shape and color evolution of the rising light curves in unprecedented detail. We discuss six peculiar events in this sample: one 02cx-like event ZTF18abclfee (SN2018crl), one Ia-CSM SN ZTF18aaykjei (SN2018cxk), and four objects with possible super-Chandrasekhar mass progenitors: ZTF18abhpgje (SN2018eul), ZTF18abdpvnd (SN2018dvf), ZTF18aawpcel (SN2018cir), and ZTF18abddmrf (SN2018dsx).

- In this work, we aimed to derive the gri-band period-luminosity (PL) and period-luminosity-color (PLC) relations for late-type contact binaries, for the first time, located in globular clusters, using the homogeneous light curves collected by the Zwicky Transient Factory (ZTF). We started with 79 contact binaries in 15 globular clusters, and retained 30 contact binaries in 10 globular clusters that have adequate numbers of data points in the ZTF light curves and are unaffected by blending. Magnitudes at mean and maximum light of these contact binaries were determined using a fourth-order Fourier expansion, while extinction corrections were done using the Bayerstar2019 3D reddening map together with adopting the homogeneous distances to their host globular clusters. After removing early-type and "anomaly" contact binaries, our derived gri-band PL and period-Wesenheit (PW) relations exhibited a much larger dispersion with large errors on the fitted coefficients. Nevertheless, the gr-band PL and PW relations based on this small sample of contact binaries in globular clusters were consistent with those based on a larger sample of nearby contact binaries. Good agreements of the PL and PW relations suggested both samples of contact binaries in the local Solar neighborhood and in the distant globular clusters can be combined and used to derive and calibrate the PL, PW, and PLC relations. The final derived gr-band PL, PW, and PLC relations were much improved over those based on the limited sample of contact binaries in the globular clusters.

- The discovery rate of fast radio bursts (FRBs) is increasing dramatically thanks to new radio facilities. Meanwhile, wide-field instruments such as the 47deg^2^ Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) survey the optical sky to study transient and variable sources. We present serendipitous ZTF observations of the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) repeating source FRB180916.J0158+65 that was localized to a spiral galaxy 149Mpc away and is the first FRB suggesting periodic modulation in its activity. While 147 ZTF exposures corresponded to expected high-activity periods of this FRB, no single ZTF exposure was at the same time as a CHIME detection. No >3{sigma} optical source was found at the FRB location in 683 ZTF exposures, totaling 5.69hr of integration time. We combined ZTF upper limits and expected repetitions from FRB 180916.J0158+65 in a statistical framework using a Weibull distribution, agnostic of periodic modulation priors. The analysis yielded a constraint on the ratio between the optical and radio fluences of {eta}<~200, corresponding to an optical energy E_opt_<~3x10^46^erg for a fiducial 10Jy.ms FRB (90% confidence). A deeper (but less statistically robust) constraint of {eta}<~3 can be placed assuming a rate of r(>5Jy.ms)=1hr^-1^ and 1.2+/-1.1 FRB occurring during exposures taken in high-activity windows. The constraint can be improved with shorter per-image exposures and longer integration time, or observing FRBs at higher Galactic latitudes. This work demonstrated how current surveys can statistically constrain multiwavelength counterparts to FRBs even without deliberately scheduled simultaneous radio observation.

It is necessary to identify the energy source for their huge luminosities, starburst or AGN activity, in order to correctly interpret the role of ULIRGs in galaxy evolution, and compute reliable estimates of their star formation rates, stellar masses, and accretion luminosities.

- This document describes a computer version of that part of the CGCG (Zwicky et al. 1961-68) containing all the alphanumeric information for galaxies. All known errors found by Zwicky and many others are corrected as well as erroneous quotations from other catalogs (Shapley & Ames 1932, Bigay 1951, Pettit 1954, Humason et al. 1956, Holmberg 1958). It is an illusion to consider all the errors are found. There are some misprints even in the most extended list of misprints (Paturel et al. 1991). We have compiled two files: zwi_gal.ori and zwi_gal.add. The first one contains the original information from CGCG for galaxies. The second one contains the data from above mentioned other catalogs given in CGCG. We have made no attempts to supply the catalog with any new information. A detailed comparison with the machine-readable version of Zwicky galaxies prepared by R.S. Hill (NSSDC ADC #7049 or CDS VII/49) was performed. Our version contains more data on individual galaxies - designation, description, magnitudes, velocity. All galaxies in the Coma center are included. However Hill's version contains data for Zwicky fields, Palomar Sky Survey plate number as well as Mead-Luyten-Palomar number. There are 27837 different galaxies and 29418 entries in CGCG.

- The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) is performing a three-day cadence survey of the visible northern sky (~3{pi}) with newly found transient candidates announced via public alerts. The ZTF Bright Transient Survey (BTS) is a large spectroscopic campaign to complement the photometric survey. BTS endeavors to spectroscopically classify all extragalactic transients with m_peak_<~18.5mag in either the g_ZTF_ or r_ZTF_ filters, and publicly announce said classifications. BTS discoveries are predominantly supernovae (SNe), making this the largest flux-limited SN survey to date. Here we present a catalog of 761 SNe, classified during the first nine months of ZTF (2018 April 1-2018 December 31). We report BTS SN redshifts from SN template matching and spectroscopic host-galaxy redshifts when available. We analyze the redshift completeness of local galaxy catalogs, the redshift completeness fraction (RCF; the ratio of SN host galaxies with known spectroscopic redshift prior to SN discovery to the total number of SN hosts). Of the 512 host galaxies with SNe Ia, 227 had previously known spectroscopic redshifts, yielding an RCF estimate of 44%{+/-}4%. The RCF decreases with increasing distance and decreasing galaxy luminosity (for z<0.05, or ~200Mpc, RCF~0.6). Prospects for dramatically increasing the RCF are limited to new multifiber spectroscopic instruments or wide-field narrowband surveys. Existing galaxy redshift catalogs are only ~50% complete at r~16.9mag. Pushing this limit several magnitudes deeper will pay huge dividends when searching for electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational wave events or sources of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays or neutrinos.

- We present the results of a deep wide-field near-infrared survey of 12deg^2^ of the Pleiades conducted as part of the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Galactic Cluster Survey (GCS). We have extracted over 340 high-probability proper motion (PM) members down to 0.03M_{sun}_ using a combination of UKIDSS photometry and PM measurements obtained by cross-correlating the GCS with data from the Two Micron All Sky Survey, the Isaac Newton Telescope and the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. Additionally, we have unearthed 73 new candidate brown dwarf (BD) members on the basis of five-band UKIDSS photometry alone. We have identified 23 substellar multiple system candidates out of 63 candidate BDs from the (Y-K, Y) and (J-K, J) colour-magnitude diagrams, yielding a binary frequency of 2844 per cent in the 0.075-0.030M_{sun}_ mass range.

- We present first results from a deep (J=18.7), wide-field (6.5deg^2^) infrared (ZY JHK) survey in the Upper Sco association conducted within the science verification phase of the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope Infrared Deep Sky Survey Galactic Cluster Survey (GCS). Cluster members define a sequence well separated from field stars in the (Z-J, Z) colour-magnitude diagram. We have selected a total of 164 candidates with J =10.5-8.7mag from the (Z-J, Z) and (Y-J, Y) diagrams. We further investigated the location of those candidates in the other colour-magnitude and colour-colour diagrams to weed out contaminants. The cross-correlation of the GCS catalogue with the Two-Micron All-Sky Survey data base confirms the membership of 116 photometric candidates down to 20 Jupiter masses as they lie within a 2 circle centred on the association mean motion. The final list of cluster members contains 129 sources with masses between 0.3 and 0.007M_{sun}_.
