- A high-resolution spectrum of lanthanum has been recorded by a Fourier Transform spectrometer in the wavelength range from 833nm to 1666nm (6000/cm to 12000/cm) using as light source a hollow cathode lamp operated with argon as the discharge carrier gas. In total, 2386 spectral lines were detected in this region, of which 555 lines could be classified as La I transitions and 10 lines as La II transitions. All La II transitions and 534 of these La I transitions were classified for the first time, and 6 of the La II transitions and 433 of the classified La I transitions appear to be new lines, which could not be found in the literature. The corresponding energy level data of classified lines are given. Additionally, 430 lines are assigned as Ar I lines and 394 as Ar II lines, of which 179 and 77, respectively, were classified for the first time. All 77 classified Ar II transitions as well as 159 of the classified Ar I transitions are new lines. Furthermore, the wavenumbers of 997 unclassified spectral lines were determined, 235 of which could be assigned as La lines, because of their hyperfine pattern. The remaining 762 lines may be either unclassified Ar lines or unresolved and unclassified La lines with only one symmetrical peak with an FWHM in the same order of magnitude as the Ar lines. The accuracy of the wavenumber for the classified lines with signal-to-noise-ratio higher than four is better than 0.006/cm which corresponds to an accuracy of 0.0004nm at 830nm and 0.0017nm at 1660nm, respectively.

- Libraries of stellar spectra are fundamental tools for the study of stellar populations and both empirical and synthetic libraries have been used for this purpose. In this paper, a new library of high resolution synthetic spectra is presented, ranging from the near-ultraviolet (300nm) to the near-infrared (1.8{mu}m). The library spans all the stellar types that are relevant to the integrated light of old and intermediate-age stellar populations in the involved spectral region (spectral types F through M and all luminosity classes). The grid was computed for metallicities ranging from [Fe/H]=-2.5 to +0.5, including both solar and {alpha}-enhanced ([{alpha}/Fe]=0.4) chemical compositions. The synthetic spectra are a good match to observations of stars throughout the stellar parameter space encompassed by the library and over the whole spectral region covered by the computations.

- We provide a new method to derive heavy element abundances based on the unique suite of nebular lines in the mid- to far-infrared (IR) range. Using grids of photo-ionisation models that cover a wide range in O/H and N/O abundances, and ionisation parameter, our code HII-CHI-MISTRY-IR (HCm-IR) provides model-based abundances based on extinction free and temperature insensitive tracers, two significant advantages over optical diagnostics. The code is probed using a sample of 56 galaxies observed with Spitzer and Herschel covering a wide range in metallicity, 7.2~<12+log(O/H)~<8.9. The IR model-based metallicities obtained are robust within a scatter of 0.03dex when the hydrogen recombination lines, which are typically faint transitions in the IR range, are not available. When compared to the optical abundances obtained with the direct method,model- based methods, and strong-line calibrations, HCm-IR estimates show a typical dispersion of ~0.2dex, in line with previous studies comparing IR and optical abundances, a do not introduce a noticeable systematic above 12+log(O/H)>7.6. This accuracy can be achieved using the lines [SIV]10.5um, [SIII]18.7,33.5um, [NeIII]15.6um and [NeII]12.8um. Additionally, HCm-IR provides an independent N/O measurement when the [OIII]52,88um and [NIII]57um transitions are measured, and therefore the derived abundances in this case do not rely on particular assumptions in the N/O ratio. Large uncertainties (~0.4dex) may affect the abundance determinations of galaxies at sub- or over-solar metallicities when a solar-like N/O ratio is adopted. Finally, the code has been applied to 8 galaxies located at 1.8<z<7.5 with ground-based detections of far-IR lines redshifted in the submm range, revealing solar-like N/O and O/H abundances in agreement with recent studies.

- We use the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) maximum entropy method foreground emission map combined with previously determined distances to giant HII regions to measure the free-free flux at Earth and the free-free luminosity of the Galaxy. We find a total flux f_{nu}_=54211Jy and a flux from 88 sources of f_{nu}_=36043Jy. The bulk of the sources are at least marginally resolved, with mean radii ~60pc, electron density n_e_~9cm^-3^, and filling factor {Phi}HII~0.005 (over the Galactic gas disk). We use GLIMPSE and Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX) 8um images to show that the bulk of the free-free luminosity is associated with bubbles having radii r~5-100pc, with a mean of ~20pc. These bubbles are leaky, so that ionizing photons emitted inside the bubble escape and excite free-free emission beyond the bubble walls, producing WMAP sources that are larger than the 8um bubbles. We suggest that the WMAP sources are the counterparts of the extended low density HII regions described by Mezger (1978A&A....70..565M). The 18 most luminous WMAP sources emit half the total Galactic ionizing flux.

- We discuss wide-field near-infrared (near-IR) imaging of the NGC 1333, L1448, L1455 and B1 star-forming regions in Perseus. The observations have been extracted from a much larger narrow-band imaging survey of the Taurus-Auriga-Perseus complex. These H_2_ 2.122um observations are complemented by broad-band K imaging, mid-IR imaging and photometry from the Spitzer Space Telescope, and published submillimetre CO J=3-2 maps of high-velocity molecular outflows. We detect and label 85 H_2_ features and associate these with 26 molecular outflows.

- A pilot survey has been made to obtain 21cm HI emission line profiles for 197 objects in the zone of avoidance (ZoA) that were classified as galaxies in the 2MASS all-sky near-infrared Extended Source Catalog (2MASX), as well as a further 16 2MASS pre-release working database sources that did not make it into 2MASX. One hundred sixteen of the 2MASX sources and the 16 working database sources were observed using the Nancay radio telescope, usually in the 325 to 11825km/s range, and the other 81 2MASX sources were observed with the Arecibo radio telescope in the -500 to 11000km/s range, and for 9 also in the 9500 to 21000km/s range.

- We present the discovery of Kepler-129d (P_d_=7.2_-0.3_^+0.4^yr, m_sini_d__=8.3_-0.7_^+1.1^M_Jup_, e_d_=0.15_-0.05_^+0.07^) based on six years of radial-velocity observations from Keck/HIRES. Kepler-129 also hosts two transiting sub-Neptunes: Kepler-129b (P_b_= 15.79days, r_b_=2.40{+/-}0.04R{Earth}) and Kepler-129c (P_c_=82.20days, r_c_=2.52{+/-}0.07R{Earth}) for which we measure masses of m_b_<20M{Earth} and m_c_=43_-12_^+13^M{Earth}. Kepler-129 is a hierarchical system consisting of two tightly packed inner planets and a massive external companion. In such a system, two inner planets precess around the orbital normal of the outer companion, causing their inclinations to oscillate with time. Based on an asteroseismic analysis of Kepler data, we find tentative evidence that Kepler-129b and c are misaligned with stellar spin axis by >~38{deg}, which could be torqued by Kepler-129 d if it is inclined by >~19{deg} relative to inner planets. Using N-body simulations, we provide additional constraints on the mutual inclination between Kepler-129d and inner planets by estimating the fraction of time during which two inner planets both transit. The probability that two planets both transit decreases as their misalignment with Kepler-129d increases. We also find a more massive Kepler-129c enables the two inner planets to become strongly coupled and more resistant to perturbations from Kepler-129d. The unusually high mass of Kepler-129c provides a valuable benchmark for both planetary dynamics and interior structure, since the best-fit mass is consistent with this 2.5R{Earth} planet having a rocky surface.

- This manuscript describes the public release of the Hubble Legacy Fields (HLF) project photometric catalog for the extended GOODS-South region from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) archival program AR-13252. The analysis is based on the version 2.0 HLF data release that now includes all ultraviolet (UV) imaging, combining three major UV surveys. The HLF data combines over a decade worth of 7475 exposures taken in 2635 orbits totaling 6.3Ms with the HST Advanced Camera for Surveys Wide Field Channel (ACS/WFC) and the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) UVIS/IR Channels in the greater GOODS-S extragalactic field, covering all major observational efforts (e.g., GOODS, GEMS, CANDELS, ERS, UVUDF, and many other programs; see Illingworth+ arXiv:1606.00841). The HLF GOODS-S catalogs include photometry in 13 bandpasses from the UV (WFC3/UVIS F225W, F275W, and F336W filters), optical (ACS/WFC F435W, F606W, F775W, F814W and F850LP filters), to near-infrared (WFC3/IR F098M, F105W, F125W, F140W and F160W filters). Such a data set makes it possible to construct the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of objects over a wide wavelength range from high-resolution mosaics that are largely contiguous. Here, we describe a photometric analysis of 186474 objects in the HST imaging at wavelengths 0.2-1.6{mu}m. We detect objects from an ultra-deep image combining the PSF-homogenized and noise-equalized F850LP, F125W, F140W, and F160W images, including Gaia astrometric corrections. SEDs were determined by carefully taking the effects of the point-spread function in each observation into account.

- Time-resolved Fourier transform infrared emission spectroscopy, Fourier transform absorption infrared spectroscopy, and high-resolution UV-ViS emission spectroscopy have been exploited in order to characterize the chemistry of isocyanic acid (HNCO) under glow discharge conditions in planetary atmospheres. HNCO mixtures (i.e., composed of di-hydrogen or ammonia) have been investigated in order to unveil the possible reaction pathways leading to the synthesis of the key prebiotic molecule formamide (HCONH_2_), upon planetary atmospheres containing isocyanic acid in presence of di-hydrogen and, separately, of ammonia. In addition, ab initio Molecular Dynamics simulations coupled with a state-of-the-art metadynamics technique have been performed in order to identify the most likely chemical pathways connecting HNCO to formamide. It turned out that the direct hydrogenation of HNCO is thermodynamically favored. Incidentally, also the experimental results - supplied by a simplified kinetic model - proved the favorability of the reaction HNCO + H_2_ -> HCONH_2_ which, moreover, spontaneously takes place in unbiased ab initio Molecular Dynamics simulations carried out under the effect of intense electric fields.

- We have performed targeted surveys for 22GHz H_2_O and 43GHz SiO maser emission in Galactic center OH/IR stars using the Very Large Array. Some of the detections have been used in a previous paper to investigate the possibility of measuring milli-arcsecond accurate positions (to obtain stellar proper motions) in the Galactic center. Here we report on the detection of at least 25 H_2_O masers and 18 SiO masers associated with stars within 2{deg} and 15' of Sgr A*, respectively. This survey has more than doubled the total number of proper motion candidates to at least about 50 stellar objects.
