- Smooth X-ray morphology and non-detection of a radio source at the center of A2589 indicate that it is a typical case of a well-relaxed regular galaxy cluster. In this paper, we present a multicolor photometry for A2589 (z=0.0414) with 15 intermediate bands in the Beijing-Arizona-Taiwan-Connecticut (BATC) system which covers an optical wavelength range from 3000{AA} to 10000{AA}. The spectral energy distributions (SEDs) for more than 5000 sources are achieved down to V~20mag in about a 1{deg}^2^ field. A2589 has also been covered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) in photometric mode only. A cross-identification of the BATC-detected galaxies with the SDSS photometric catalog yields 1199 galaxies brighter than i=19.5mag, among which 68 member galaxies with known spectroscopic redshifts are found. After combining the SDSS five-band photometric data and the BATC SEDs, photometric redshift is applied to these galaxies to select faint member galaxies. The color-magnitude relation is taken as a further restriction of early-type cluster galaxies. As a result, 106 galaxies are newly selected as member galaxies.

- Multi-color photometry data of the project, "Large Field Multi-Color Sky Survey" supported by Beijing-Arizona-Taiwan-Connecticut (BATC) is presented. From 1995 to 2004, 110 58'x58' sky survey fields have been observed. First release of BATC catalog includes observation results for 511842 sources located in 70 sky survey fields. The whole release is divided into 70 files. Each file corresponds to one observation field. The BATC filter system includes 15 intermediate band filters, covering a range in optical wavelengths from 300 to 1000 nm. The telescope used is a 60/90 cm f/3 Schmidt telescope located at Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatories. A Ford Aerospace 2048x2048 CCD camera with 15 micron pixel size is mounted at the Schmidt focus of the telescope. The field of view of the CCD is 58'x58' with a plate scale of 1.7arcsec per pixel. The BATC magnitude system adopts the AB magnitude system, defining as M_batc_ = -2.5log(F_{nu}_) - 48.60 where F_{nu}_ is the flux per unit frequency in units of erg/s/cm^2^/Hz, and F_{nu}_={Sum}[d(log{nu})*f_{nu}_*R_{nu}_]/{Sum}[d(log{nu})*R_{nu}_] where R_{nu}_ represents the response of the system. Four Oke & Gunn (1983ApJ...266..713O) standards, HD 19445, HD 84937, BD+26 2606 and BD+17 4708 are observed in photometric nights for flux calibration. We provide catalogues down to i-band (666nm) about 20 mag with complete spectral energy distributions (SEDs) for each object. Typical error in photometry is about 0.02-0.05 mag. There is usually the deepest observation at i-band. Most of the catalogs use i-band data as their reference for coordinate calibration. While, "T0329","TA01" and "TA03" use j-band as reference. - We report the discovery and analysis of very narrow transits in the eccentric spectroscopic binary TYC 455-791-1=HSS 348 (IC 4756). We obtained high-precision CoRoT photometry over two long runs and multi-epoch high-resolution echelle spectroscopy and imaging with STELLA. Standard radial-velocity extraction, spectrum synthesis, Fourier analysis, and light-curve inversions are applied to the data. HSS 348 is found to be an eccentric (e=0.18) double-lined spectroscopic binary with a period of 12.47 d in which at least the primary component is a peculiar B star of the HgMn class. The orbital elements are such that the system undergoes a grazing eclipse with the primary in front but no secondary eclipse. The out-of-eclipse light variations show four nearly equidistant but unequal minima stable in shape and amplitude throughout our observations. Their individual photometric periods are all harmonics of the same fundamental period which happens to agree with the transit period to within the errors. We interpret the fundamental period to be the rotation period of at least one if not both stars due to surface inhomogeneities. Due to the non-zero eccentricity of the orbit the two components are rotating sub-synchronously. It appears that HSS 348 is not a member of the IC 4756 cluster but a background B8+B8.5 binary system. Its sharp eclipses every 12.47 days just mimic a small-body transit but are in reality the grazing eclipses of a B-star binary and thus a classical false positive. The system seems to be pre-main sequence with the primary possibly just arrived on the ZAMS. The light curve with four unequal minima can be explained with four cool spots of different size equidistantly positioned in longitude. Our data do not allow to uniquely assign the spots to either of the two stars.

- The scientific community needs to be prepared to analyse the data from Gaia, one of the most ambitious ESA space missions, which is to be launched in 2012. The purpose of this paper is to provide data and tools to predict how Gaia photometry is expected to be. To do so, we provide relationships among colours involving Gaia magnitudes (white light G, blue GBP, red GRP and GRVS bands) and colours from other commonly used photometric systems (Johnson-Cousins, SDSS, Hipparcos and Tycho). The most up-to-date information from industrial partners has been used to define the nominal passbands, and based on the BaSeL3.1 stellar spectral energy distribution library, relationships were obtained for stars with different reddening values, ranges of temperatures, surface gravities and metallicities. The transformations involving Gaia and Johnson-Cousins V-I_C_ and SDSS g-z colours have the lowest residuals. A polynomial expression for the relation between the effective temperature and the colour G_BP_-G_RP_ was derived for stars with Teff higher than 4500K. For stars with Teff smaller than 4500K, dispersions exist in gravity and metallicity for each absorption value in g-r and r-i. Transformations involving two Johnson or two SDSS colours yield lower residuals than using only one colour. We also computed several ratios of total-to-selective absorption including absorption A_G_ in the G band and colour excess E(G_BP_-G_RP_) for our sample stars. A relationship involving A_G_/A_V_ and the intrinsic (V-I_C_) colour is provided. The derived Gaia passbands have been used to compute tracks and isochrones using the Padova and BASTI models, and the passbands have been included in both web sites. Finally, the performances of the predicted Gaia magnitudes have been estimated according to the magnitude and the celestial coordinates of the star. The provided dependencies among colours can be used for planning scientific exploitation of Gaia data, performing simulations of the Gaia-like sky, planning ground-based complementary observations and for building catalogues with auxiliary data for the Gaia data processing and validation.

- Long-term photographic photometry of the active long-period RS CVn binary HK Lac (HD 209813) was obtained from more than 2000 Sonneberg Sky-Patrol plates taken between 1956 and 1996. We achieve an internal accuracy of 0.07mag. The correspondence with contemporaneous high-precision photoelectric photometry from automatic telescopes is striking and successfully demonstrates the feasibility of our approach. Based on a Bayesian periodogram analysis, we improve previously published cycle periods to 13.37+/-0.8 and 6.7+/-0.1-years, and present evidence of an additional period of 9.48+/-0.13-years. This establishes the multi-periodicity of dynamo action in these overactive stars as compared to the Sun. Of course, the 6.7-years cycle may be an overtone of the dominating 13.4-years cycle. Our long-term photographic photometry even allowed the detection of the star's mean rotational period of 24.35-days.

- CCD photometry is presented for 119 stars observed in the Thuan-Gunn photometric system (the passbands vgr). The sample includes 82 stars for which magnitudes in this system have not previously been published. Photometry in the Johnson-Kron-Cousins photometric system (BV or UBV) has been obtained for a sub-sample of 85 of the stars. Of those stars which are not primary standard stars for the Thuan-Gunn system 70 observed in Gunn r, 48 observed in Gunn g, and 37 observed in Gunn v have sufficient repeat measurements that they may be used as secondary standard stars for CCD photometry. The typical uncertain- ties for the magnitudes of these stars are 0.006 mag.
