- We study the classification and composite spectra of galaxies in the fourth data release (DR4) of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). We select 40182 spectra of galaxies from LAMOST DR4, which have photometric information but no spectroscopic observations in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). These newly observed spectra are recalibrated and classified into six classes - passive, H{alpha}-weak, star-forming, composite, LINER and Seyfert - using the line intensity (H{beta}, [OIII] 5007, H{alpha} and [NII] 6585). We also study the correlation between spectral class and morphological type through three parameters: concentration index, (u-r) colour and D4000n index. We calculate composite spectra of high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) for six spectral classes and, using these composites, we pick out some features that can differentiate the classes effectively, including H{beta}, Fe5015, H{gamma}A, HK and the Mg2 band. In addition, we compare our composite spectra with the SDSS ones and analyse their differences. A galaxy catalogue of 40182 newly observed spectra (36601 targets) and the composite spectra of the six classes are available online (http://sciwiki.lamost.org/downloads/wll).

- We study the two-point correlation function of a uniformly selected sample of 4426 luminous optical quasars with redshift 2.9<=z<=5.4 selected over 4041deg^2^ from the Fifth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We fit a power-law to the projected correlation function w_p_(r_p_) to marginalize over redshift-space distortions and redshift errors.

- We present the COBE DIRBE Point Source Catalog, an all-sky catalog containing infrared photometry in 10 bands from 1.25 microns to 240 microns for 11788 of the brightest near and mid-infrared point sources in the sky. Since DIRBE had excellent temporal coverage (100-1900 independent measurements per object during the 10 month cryogenic mission), the Catalog also contains information about variability at each wavelength, including amplitudes of variation observed during the mission. Since the DIRBE spatial resolution is relatively poor (0.7{deg}), we have carefully investigated the question of confusion, and have flagged sources with infrared-bright companions within the DIRBE beam. In addition, we filtered the DIRBE light curves for data points affected by companions outside of the main DIRBE beam but within the `sky' portion of the scan. At high Galactic latitudes (|b|>5{deg}), the Catalog contains essentially all of the unconfused sources with flux densities greater than 90, 60, 60, 50, 90, and 165 Jy at 1.25, 2.2, 3.5, 4.9, 12, and 25 microns, respectively, corresponding to magnitude limits of approximately 3.1, 2.6, 1.7, 1.3, -1.3, and -3.5. At longer wavelengths and in the Galactic Plane, the completeness is less certain because of the large DIRBE beam and possible contributions from extended emission. The Catalog also contains the names of the sources in other catalogs, their spectral types, variability types, and whether or not the sources are known OH/IR stars. We discuss a few remarkable objects in the Catalog.

- We extend color-magnitude relations for moderate-luminosity X-ray active galactic nucleus (AGN) hosts and non-AGN galaxies through the galaxy formation epoch (z~1-4) in the Chandra Deep Field-North and Chandra Deep Field-South (CDF-N and CDF-S, respectively; jointly CDFs) surveys. This study was enabled by the deepest available X-ray data from the 2Ms CDF surveys as well as complementary ultradeep multiwavelength data in these regions. We utilized analyses of color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) to assess the role of moderate-luminosity AGNs in galaxy evolution.

- The Colours of the Outer Solar System Origins Survey is acquiring near-simultaneous g, r, and J photometry of unprecedented precision with the Gemini North Telescope, targeting nearly 100 trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) brighter than m_r_=23.6mag discovered in the Outer Solar System Origins Survey. Combining the optical and near-infrared photometry with the well-characterized detection efficiency of the Colours of the Outer Solar System Origins Survey target sample will provide the first flux-limited compositional dynamical map of the outer solar system. In this paper, we describe our observing strategy and detail the data reduction processes we employ, including techniques to mitigate the impact of rotational variability. We present optical and near-infrared colors for 35 TNOs. We find two taxonomic groups for the dynamically excited TNOs, the neutral and red classes, which divide at g-r~0.75. Based on simple albedo and orbital distribution assumptions, we find that the neutral class outnumbers the red class, with a ratio of 4:1 and potentially as high as 11:1. Including in our analysis constraints from the cold classical objects, which are known to exhibit unique albedos and r-z colors, we find that within our measurement uncertainty our observations are consistent with the primordial solar system protoplanetesimal disk being neutral class dominated, with two major compositional divisions in grJ color space.

- Both physical and dynamical properties must be considered to constrain the origins of the dynamically excited distant solar system populations. We present high-precision (g-r) colors for 25 small (H_r_>5) dynamically excited trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) and centaurs acquired as part of the Colours of the Outer Solar System Origins Survey. We combine our data set with previously published measurements and consider a set of 229 colors of outer solar system objects on dynamically excited orbits. The overall color distribution is bimodal and can be decomposed into two distinct classes, termed gray and red, that each has a normal color distribution. The two color classes have different inclination distributions: red objects have lower inclinations than the gray ones. This trend holds for all dynamically excited TNO populations. Even in the worst-case scenario, biases in the discovery surveys cannot account for this trend; it is intrinsic to the TNO population. Considering that TNOs are the precursors of centaurs, and that their inclinations are roughly preserved as they become centaurs, our finding solves the conundrum of centaurs being the only outer solar system population identified so far to exhibit this property. The different orbital distributions of the gray and red dynamically excited TNOs provide strong evidence that their colors are due to different formation locations in a disk of planetesimals with a compositional gradient.

- We report early results on galaxies at z~6 selected from Hubble Space Telescope imaging for the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey. Spectroscopy of one object with the Advanced Camera for Surveys grism and from the Keck and Very Large Telescope observatories shows a strong continuum break and asymmetric line emission, identified as Ly{alpha} at z=5.83. We find only five spatially extended candidates with signal-to-noise ratios greater than 10, two of which have spectroscopic confirmation. This is much fewer than would be expected if galaxies at z=6 had the same luminosity function as those at z=3. There are many fainter candidates, but we expect substantial contamination from foreground interlopers and spurious detections. Our best estimates favor a z=6 galaxy population with fainter luminosities, higher space density, and similar comoving ultraviolet emissivity to that at z=3, but this depends critically on counts at fluxes fainter than those reliably probed by the current data.

- A catalogue of compact groups identified on the SDSS DR12 is provided. Compact Groups were identified in redshift space with a modified Hickson-like algorithm. The catalogue comprises 462 compact groups of which 406 clearly fulfil all the compact group requirements: compactness, isolation and velocity concordance of all of their members. The remaining 56 groups need further redshift information of potentially contaminating sources.

- A compact group (CG) is a kind of special galaxy system where the galaxy members are separated at distances of the order of galaxy size. The strong interaction between the galaxy members makes CGs ideal labs for studying the environmental effects on galaxy evolution. The traditional photometric selection algorithm biases against the CG candidates at low redshifts, while the spectroscopic identification technique is affected by the spectroscopic incompleteness of sample galaxies and typically biases against the high redshift candidates. In this study, we combine these two methods and select CGs in the main galaxy sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, where we also have taken the advantages of the complementary redshift measurements from the LAMOST spectral and GAMA surveys. We have obtained the largest and most complete CG samples to date. Our samples include 6144 CGs and 8022 CG candidates, which are unique in the studies of the nature of the CGs and the evolution of the galaxies inside.
