- Estimation of bolometric fluxes (F_BOL_) is an essential component of stellar effective temperature determination with optical and near-infrared interferometry. Reliable estimation of F_BOL_ simply from broadband K-band photometry data is a useful tool in those cases were contemporaneous and/or wide-range photometry is unavailable for a detailed spectral energy distribution (SED) fit, as was demonstrated in Dyck et al. Recalibrating the intrinsic F_BOL_ versus observed F_2.2{mu}m_ relationship of that study with modern SED fitting routines, which incorporate the significantly non-blackbody, empirical spectral templates of the INGS spectral library (an update of the library in Pickles) and estimation of reddening, serves to greatly improve the accuracy and observational utility of this relationship. We find that F_BOL_ values predicted are roughly 11% less than the corresponding values predicted in Dyck et al., indicating the effects of SED absorption features across bolometric flux curves.

- We present a sample of ~1000 emission-line galaxies at z=0.4-4.7 from the ~0.7deg^2^ High-z Emission-Line Survey in the Bootes field identified with a suite of six narrow-band filters at ~=0.4-2.1{mu}m. These galaxies have been selected on their Ly{alpha} (73), [OII] (285), H{beta}/[OIII] (387) or H{alpha} (362) emission line, and have been classified with optical to near-infrared colours. A subsample of 98 sources have reliable redshifts from multiple narrow-band (e.g. [OII]-H{alpha}) detections and/or spectroscopy. In this survey paper, we present the observations, selection and catalogues of emitters. We measure number densities of Ly{alpha}, [OII], H{beta}/[OIII] and H{alpha} and confirm strong luminosity evolution in star-forming galaxies from z~0.4 to ~5, in agreement with previous results. To demonstrate the usefulness of dual-line emitters, we use the sample of dual [OII]-H{alpha} emitters to measure the observed [OII]/H{alpha} ratio at z=1.47. The observed [OII]/H{alpha} ratio increases significantly from 0.40+/-0.01 at z=0.1 to 0.52+/-0.05 at z=1.47, which we attribute to either decreasing dust attenuation with redshift, or due to a bias in the (typically) fibre measurements in the local Universe that only measure the central kpc regions. At the bright end, we find that both the H{alpha} and Ly{alpha} number densities at z~=2.2 deviate significantly from a Schechter form, following a power law. We show that this is driven entirely by an increasing X-ray/active galactic nucleus fraction with line luminosity, which reaches ~=100 per cent at line luminosities L>=3x10^44^erg/s.

- We study the morphology and size of the luminous and massive galaxies at 0.3<z<0.7 targeted in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) using publicly available Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging, and catalogues, from the COSMic Origins Survey (COSMOS). Our sample (240 objects) provides a unique opportunity to check the visual morphology of these galaxies which were targeted based solely on stellar population modelling.

- We present a new measurement of the optical quasar luminosity function (QLF), using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-III: Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (SDSS-III: BOSS). From the SDSS-III Data Release Nine, a uniform sample of 22301 i<~21.8 quasars are selected over an area of 2236deg^2^, with confirmed spectroscopic redshifts between 2.2<z<3.5, filling in a key part of the luminosity-redshift plane for optical quasar studies. The completeness of the survey is derived through simulated quasar photometry, and this completeness estimate is checked using a sample of quasars selected by their photometric variability within the BOSS footprint. We investigate the level of systematics associated with our quasar sample using the simulations, in the process generating color-redshift relations and a new quasar K-correction. We probe the faint end of the QLF to M_i_(z=2.2){approx}-24.5 and see a clear break in the QLF at all redshifts up to z=3.5. A log-linear relation (in log{Phi}*-M*) for a luminosity evolution and density evolution model is found to adequately describe our data within the range 2.2<z<3.5; across this interval the break luminosity increases by a factor of ~2.6 while {Phi}* declines by a factor of ~8. At z<~2.2 our data are reasonably well fit by a pure luminosity evolution model, and only a weak signature of "AGN downsizing" is seen, in line with recent studies of the hard X-ray luminosity function. We compare our measured QLF to a number of theoretical models and find that models making a variety of assumptions about quasar triggering and halo occupation can fit our data over a wide range of redshifts and luminosities.

- A search for variable stars is performed using two epochs of Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging data for a 9.28arcmin^2^ portion of M31. This data set reveals 254 sources that vary by at least 4{sigma} between epochs. The positions and two-epoch B-band (equivalent) photometry of these sources are presented.

- The semi-detached eclipsing binary system BP Muscae has been analysed using the Wilson-Devinney program. The physical and orbital parameters have been determined through a self-consistent simultaneous solution of light curves in seven colours and of the radial velocity curves of both components. The 373 photometric measurements of BP Mus in the 7-colour GENEVA system are listed in the table. P and Q are the weights in colours and V magnitude (see Rufener, 1988, Cat. <II/169>).

- New CCD photometric monitoring on the high-amplitude delta Scuti variable BP Peg was carried out on November 4, 2013 by using the 1.0-m reflecting telescope of Yunnan Observatories in China as well as on December 29, 2013 by using the 85-cm telescope at Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatory in China. BP Peg is a new high-amplitude delta Scuti variable with a period of 0.10954357-day. We have collected all the times of light maximum from the literature together with our data, and the pulsation period changes are analyzed through Observed-Calculated (O-C) method. With the available data, we discover that the pulsating period of BP Peg shows a cyclic oscillation with a period of 24.5-years and an amplitude of 0.0060-days. If the cyclic period changes are caused by light-time effect in a binary system, the reckoned mass of the hidden companion could be 0.20M_{sun}_ and possibly, it is an M-type star.

- The Bright Ages Survey is a K-band-selected redshift survey over six separate fields with UBVRIzJHK imaging covering a total of 75.6arcmin^2^ and reaching K=20-20.5. Two fields have deep HST imaging, while all are centered on possible overdensities in the range. Here we report photometric redshifts and spectroscopy for this sample, which has been described in Paper I (Colbert et al., 2006ApJ...638..603C).

- The first two of a total of six nano-satellites that will constitute the BRITE-Constellation space photometry mission have recently been launched successfully. In preparation for this project, we carried out time-resolved colour photometry in a field that is an excellent candidate for BRITE measurements from space. We acquired 117h of Stromgren uvy data during 19 nights. Our targets comprised the {beta} Cephei stars {kappa} and {lambda} Sco, the eclipsing binary {mu}^1^ Sco, and the variable super/hypergiant {zeta}^1^ Sco. For {kappa} Sco, a photometric mode identification in combination with results from the spectroscopic literature suggests a dominant (l,m)=(1,-1) {beta} Cephei-type pulsation mode of the primary star. The longer period of the star may be a rotational variation or a g-mode pulsation. For {lambda} Sco, we recover the known dominant {beta} Cephei pulsation, a longer-period variation, and observed part of an eclipse. Lack of ultraviolet data precludes mode identification for this star. We noticed that the spectroscopic orbital ephemeris of the closer pair in this triple system is inconsistent with eclipse timings and propose a refined value for the orbital period of the closer pair of 5.95189+/-0.00003d. We also argue that the components of the {lambda} Sco system are some 30% more massive than previously thought. The binary light curve solution of {mu}^1^ Sco requires inclusion of the irradiation effect to explain the u light curve, and the system could show additional low amplitude variations on top of the orbital light changes. {zeta}^1^ Sco shows long-term variability on a time scale of at least two weeks that we prefer to interpret in terms of a variable wind or strange mode pulsations.
