- Recent studies have revealed a dynamic interplay between the galaxy ecosystem and circumgalactic medium (CGM). We investigate the CGM at high redshifts (z>~2) by using bright afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) as background sources. We compiled a sample of medium-resolution ({Delta}v<50km/s) and high signal-to-noise ratio (typical S/N~10) spectra from 27 GRB afterglows covering z~2-6, with six of them at z>~4. We analyzed the high- and low-ionization absorption features within +/-400km/s to extract the CGM and interstellar medium (ISM) kinematics. In the stacked spectra, high-ionization absorption profiles (e.g., CIV, SiIV) present significant absorption excess in their blue wings (v{<}-100km/s) relative to the red wings (v>100km/s). The stronger blue wings in high-ionization species are indicative of the presence of ubiquitous warm outflows in the GRB hosts at high redshifts. We used simple toy models to kinematically distinguish the CGM and ISM absorption and estimate the CGM mass and outflow velocity. We find tentative evidence of the evolution of the CGM metal mass by ~0.5dex between two redshift bins, each spanning 1 Gyr, z1: 2-2.7 and z2: 2.7-5. By comparing with past studies, we find that over the course of evolution of present-day galaxies with M_*_>10^10^M_{sun}_, the ratio of CIV mass in the CGM to the stellar mass remains fairly uniform, with log(M_CIV_/M_*_)~-4.5 within +/-0.5dex from z~4 to z~0, suggesting CGM-galaxy coevolution.

- We present the X-UDS survey, a set of wide and deep Chandra observations of the Subaru-XMM Deep/UKIDSS Ultra Deep Survey (SXDS/UDS) field. The survey consists of 25 observations that cover a total area of 0.33deg^2^. The observations are combined to provide a nominal depth of ~600ks in the central 100arcmin^2^ region of the field that has been imaged with Hubble/WFC3 by the CANDELS survey and ~200ks in the remainder of the field. In this paper, we outline the survey's scientific goals, describe our observing strategy, and detail our data reduction and point source detection algorithms. Our analysis has resulted in a total of 868 band-merged point sources detected with a false-positive Poisson probability of <1x10^-4^. In addition, we present the results of an X-ray spectral analysis and provide best-fitting neutral hydrogen column densities, N_H_, as well as a sample of 51 Compton-thick active galactic nucleus candidates. Using this sample, we find the intrinsic Compton-thick fraction to be 30%-35% over a wide range in redshift (z=0.1-3), suggesting the obscured fraction does not evolve very strongly with epoch. However, if we assume that the Compton-thick fraction is dependent on luminosity, as is seen for Compton-thin sources, then our results are consistent with a rise in the obscured fraction out to z~3. Finally, an examination of the host morphologies of our Compton-thick candidates shows a high fraction of morphological disturbances, in agreement with our previous results.

- The Canadian Network for Observational Cosmology Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (CNOC2) obtained spectroscopic redshifts for about 6200 galaxies to a nominal limit of R=21.5. The survey area of about 1.5 square degrees was spread over four patches on the sky. This catalog presents photometry and redshifts for all galaxies in the CNOC2 0223+00 Patch (area of 1409 square arcminutes). A future paper will provide catalogs for the other three patches.

- We present the results from our COS circumgalactic medium (CGM) compendium (CCC), a survey of the CGM at z<~1 using HI-selected absorbers with 15<logN_HI_<19. We focus here on 82 partial Lyman limit systems (pLLSs, 16.2<=logN_HI_<17.2) and 29 LLSs (17.2<=logN_HI_<19). Using Bayesian techniques and Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling of a grid of photoionization models, we derive the posterior probability distribution functions (PDFs) for the metallicity of each absorber in CCC. We show that the combined pLLS metallicity PDF at z<~1 has two main peaks at [X/H]~-1.7 and -0.4, with a strong dip at [X/H]~-1. The metallicity PDF of the LLSs might be more complicated than a unimodal or bimodal distribution. The pLLSs and LLSs probe a similar range of metallicities -3<~[X/H]<~+0.4, but the fraction of very metal-poor absorbers with [X/H]<~-1.4 is much larger for the pLLSs than the LLSs. In contrast, absorbers with logN_HI_>=19 have mostly -1<~[X/H]<~0 at z<~1. The metal-enriched gas probed by pLLSs and LLSs confirms that galaxies that have been enriching their CGM over billions of years. Surprisingly, despite this enrichment, there is also abundant metal-poor CGM gas (41%-59% of the pLLSs have [X/H]<~-1.4), representing a reservoir of near-pristine gas around z<~1 galaxies. We compare our empirical results to recent cosmological zoom simulations, finding some discrepancies, including an overabundance of metal- enriched CGM gas in simulations.

- We present a neutral hydrogen-selected absorption-line survey of gas with HI column densities 15<logN_HI_<19 at z<~1 using the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope. Our main aim is to determine the metallicity distribution of these absorbers. Our sample consists of 224 absorbers selected on the basis of their HI absorption strength. Here we discuss the properties of our survey and the immediate empirical results. We find singly and doubly ionized metal species, and HI typically have similar velocity profiles, implying they probe gas in the same or similar environments. The ionic ratios (e.g., N_CII_/N_CIII_, N_OI_/N_CII_) indicate that the gas in these absorbers is largely ionized, and the ionization conditions are quite comparable across the sampled N_HI_ range. The Doppler parameters of the HI imply T<~5x10^4^K on average, consistent with the gas being photoionized. The MgII column densities span >2 orders of magnitude at any given N_HI_, indicating a wide range of metallicities (from solar to <1/100 solar). In the range of 16.2<~logN_HI_<~17, there is a gap in the N_MgII_ distribution corresponding to gas with ~10% solar metallicity, consistent with the gap seen in the previously identified bimodal metallicity distribution in this column density regime. Less than 3% of the absorbers in our sample show no detectable metal absorption, implying that truly pristine gas at z<~1 is uncommon. We find <[FeII/MgII]>=-0.4+/-0.3, and since {alpha}-enhancement can affect this ratio, dust depletion is extremely mild.

- We present the COSMOS2015 catalog, which contains precise photometric redshifts and stellar masses for more than half a million objects over the 2deg^2^ COSMOS field. Including new YJHKs images from the UltraVISTA-DR2 survey, Y-band images from Subaru/Hyper-Suprime-Cam, and infrared data from the Spitzer Large Area Survey with the Hyper-Suprime-Cam (SPLASH) Spitzer legacy program, this near-infrared-selected catalog is highly optimized for the study of galaxy evolution and environments in the early universe. To maximize catalog completeness for bluer objects and at higher redshifts, objects have been detected on a {chi}^2^ sum of the YJHKs and z^++^ images. The catalog contains ~6x10^5^ objects in the 1.5deg^2^ UltraVISTA-DR2 region and ~1.5x10^5^ objects are detected in the "ultra-deep stripes" (0.62deg^2^) at Ks<=24.7 (3{sigma}, 3", AB (AB) magnitude). Through a comparison with the zCOSMOS-bright spectroscopic redshifts, we measure a photometric redshift precision of {sigma}_{Delta}z/(1+zs)_=0.007 and a catastrophic failure fraction of {eta}=0.5%. At 3<z<6 , using the unique database of spectroscopic redshifts in COSMOS, we find {sigma}_{Delta}z/(1+zs)_=0.021 and {eta}=13.2% . The deepest regions reach a 90% completeness limit of 10^10^M_{sun}_ to z=4. Detailed comparisons of the color distributions, number counts, and clustering show excellent agreement with the literature in the same mass ranges. COSMOS2015 represents a unique, publicly available, valuable resource with which to investigate the evolution of galaxies within their environment back to the earliest stages of the history of the universe.

- The Complete Calibration of the Color-Redshift Relation (C3R2) survey is a multi-institution, multi-instrument survey that aims to map the empirical relation of galaxy color to redshift to i~24.5 (AB), thereby providing a firm foundation for weak lensing cosmology with the Stage IV dark energy missions Euclid and WFIRST. Here we present 3171 new spectroscopic redshifts obtained in the 2016B and 2017A semesters with a combination of DEIMOS, LRIS, and MOSFIRE on the Keck telescopes. The observations come from all of the Keck partners: Caltech, NASA, the University of Hawaii, and the University of California. Combined with the 1283 redshifts published in DR1, the C3R2 survey has now obtained and published 4454 high-quality galaxy redshifts. We discuss updates to the survey design and provide a catalog of photometric and spectroscopic data. Initial tests of the calibration method performance are given, indicating that the sample, once completed and combined with extensive data collected by other spectroscopic surveys, should allow us to meet the cosmology requirements for Euclid, and make significant headway toward solving the problem for WFIRST. We use the full spectroscopic sample to demonstrate that galaxy brightness is weakly correlated with redshift once a galaxy is localized in the Euclid or WFIRST color space, with potentially important implications for the spectroscopy needed to calibrate redshifts for faint WFIRST and LSST sources.

- We present final natural-system optical (ugriBV) and near-infrared (YJH) photometry of 134 supernovae (SNe) with probable white dwarf progenitors that were observed in 2004-2009 as part of the first stage of the Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP-I). The sample consists of 123 Type Ia SNe, 5 Type Iax SNe, 2 super-Chandrasekhar SN candidates, 2 Type Ia SNe interacting with circumstellar matter, and 2 SN 2006bt-like events. The redshifts of the objects range from z=0.0037 to 0.0835; the median redshift is 0.0241. For 120 (90%) of these SNe, near-infrared photometry was obtained. Average optical extinction coefficients and color terms are derived and demonstrated to be stable during the five CSP-I observing campaigns. Measurements of the CSP-I near-infrared bandpasses are also described, and near-infrared color terms are estimated through synthetic photometry of stellar atmosphere models. Optical and near-infrared magnitudes of local sequences of tertiary standard stars for each supernova are given, and a new calibration of Y-band magnitudes of the Persson et al. (1998AJ....116.2475P) standards in the CSP-I natural system is presented.

- The Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP) was a five-year observational survey conducted at Las Campanas Observatory that obtained, among other things, high-quality light curves of ~100 low-redshift Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). Presented here is the second data release of nearby SN Ia photometry consisting of 50 objects, with a subset of 45 having near-infrared follow-up observations. Thirty-three objects have optical pre-maximum coverage with a subset of 15 beginning at least five days before maximum light. In the near-infrared, 27 objects have coverage beginning before the epoch of B-band maximum, with a subset of 13 beginning at least five days before maximum. In addition, we present results of a photometric calibration program to measure the CSP optical (uBgVri) bandpasses with an accuracy of ~1%. Finally, we report the discovery of a second SN Ia, SN 2006ot, similar in its characteristics to the peculiar SN 2006bt.

- We present a study of a 20cm selected sample in the Deep Spitzer Wide-area InfraRed Extragalactic Legacy Survey Very Large Array Field, reaching a 5{sigma} limiting flux density at the image center of S_1.4GHz_~13.5uJy. In a 0.6x0.6deg^2^ field, we are able to assign an optical/IR counterpart to 97% of the radio sources. Up to 11 passbands from the NUV to 4.5um are then used to sample the spectral energy distribution (SED) of these counterparts in order to investigate the nature of the host galaxies. By means of an SED template library and stellar population synthesis models, we estimate photometric redshifts, stellar masses, and stellar population properties, dividing the sample into three sub-classes of quiescent, intermediate, and star-forming galaxies. We focus on the radio sample in the redshift range 0.3<z<1.3 where we estimate to have a redshift completeness higher than 90% and study the properties and redshift evolution of these sub-populations.
