- Description:
- We present a compilation of properties of the 105783 quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (DR7) quasar catalog (Cat. VII/260). In this product, we compile continuum and emission line measurements around the H{alpha}, H{beta}, MgII, and CIV regions, as well as other quantities such as radio properties, and flags indicating broad absorption line quasars, disk emitters, etc. We also compile virial black hole mass estimates based on various calibrations. For the fiducial virial mass estimates we use the Vestergaard & Peterson (VP06; 2006ApJ...641..689V) calibrations for H{beta} and CIV, and our own calibration for MgII which matches the VP06 H{beta} masses on average. We describe the construction of this catalog and discuss its limitations.

- Description:
- Radial velocity (RV) variable stars are important in astrophysics. The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) spectroscopic survey has provided ~6.5 million stellar spectra in its Data Release 4 (DR4). During the survey ~4.7 million unique sources were targeted and ~1 million stars observed repeatedly. The probabilities of stars being RV variables are estimated by comparing the observed RV variations with simulated ones. We build a catalog of 80702 RV variable candidates with probability greater than 0.60 by analyzing the multi-epoch sources covered by LAMOST DR4. Simulations and cross-identifications show that the purity of the catalog is higher than 80%. The catalog consists of 77% binary systems and 7% pulsating stars as well as 16% pollution by single stars. 3138 RV variables are classified through cross-identifications with published results in literatures. By using the 3138 sources common in both LAMOST and a collection of published RV variable catalogs, we are able to analyze LAMOST's RV variable detection rate. The efficiency of the method adopted in this work relies not only on the sampling frequency of observations but also periods and amplitudes of RV variables. With the progress of LAMOST, Gaia, and other surveys, more and more RV variables will be confirmed and classified.

- Description:
- The Australia Telescope Hubble Deep Field-South (ATHDF-S) survey of the Hubble Deep Field-South (HDF-S) reaches sensitivities of ~10uJy at 1.4, 2.5, 5.2, and 8.7GHz, making the ATHDF-S one of the deepest surveys ever performed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). Here, we present the optical identifications of the ATHDF-S radio sources using data from the literature. We find that ~66% of the radio sources have optical counterparts to I=23.5mag. Deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging of the area identifies a further 12% of radio sources. We present new spectroscopic observations for 98 of the radio sources and supplement these spectroscopic redshifts with photometric ones calculated from five-band optical imaging.

- Description:
- This paper prepares a series of papers analysing the Intermediate MAss Galaxy Evolution Sequence (IMAGES) up to a redshift of one. Intermediate mass galaxies (M_J<=-20.3) are selected from the Chandra Deep Field South (CDFS) for which we identify a serious lack of spectroscopically determined redshifts. Our primary aim in this study is therefore to obtain a sample of intermediate-mass galaxies with known spectroscopic redshift to be used for further analysis of their 3D-kinematics. We also intend to test whether this important cosmological field may be significantly affected by cosmic variance. The spectroscopic observations were carried out using VIMOS on the ESO VLT. The data reduction was done using a set of semi-automatic IRAF procedures developed by our team. We have spectroscopically identified 691 objects including 580 galaxies, 7 QSOs, and 104 stars.

- Redshift survey in the Subaru GTO2deg^2^ field
- Short Name:
- J/ApJ/750/168
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We use a dense redshift survey in the foreground of the Subaru GTO2deg^2^ weak-lensing field (centered at 16:04:44+43:11'24 (2000) to assess the completeness and comment on the purity of massive halo identification in the weak-lensing map. The redshift survey (published here) includes 4541 galaxies; 4405 are new redshifts measured with the Hectospec on the MMT. Among the weak-lensing peaks with a signal to noise greater than 4.25, 2/3 correspond to individual massive systems; this result is essentially identical to the Geller et al. (2010ApJ...709..832G) test of the Deep Lens Survey (DLS) field F2. The Subaru map, based on images in substantially better seeing than the DLS, enables detection of less massive halos at fixed redshift as expected. We demonstrate that the procedure adopted by Miyazaki et al. (2002ApJ...580L..97M) for removing some contaminated peaks from the weak-lensing map improves agreement between the lensing map and the redshift survey in the identification of candidate massive systems.

- Redshift survey of ALMA-identified SMGs in ECDFS
- Short Name:
- J/ApJ/840/78
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present spectroscopic redshifts of S_870{mu}m_>~2mJy submillimeter galaxies (SMGs), which have been identified from the ALMA follow-up observations of 870{mu}m detected sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South (the ALMA-LESS survey). We derive spectroscopic redshifts for 52 SMGs, with a median of z=2.4+/-0.1. However, the distribution features a high-redshift tail, with ~23% of the SMGs at z>=3. Spectral diagnostics suggest that the SMGs are young starbursts, and the velocity offsets between the nebular emission and UV ISM absorption lines suggest that many are driving winds, with velocity offsets of up to 2000km/s. Using the spectroscopic redshifts and the extensive UV-to-radio photometry in this field, we produce optimized spectral energy distributions (SEDs) using Magphys, and use the SEDs to infer a median stellar mass of M_*_=(6+/-1)x10^10^M_{sun}_ for our SMGs with spectroscopic redshift. By combining these stellar masses with the star formation rates (measured from the far-infrared SEDs), we show that SMGs (on average) lie a factor of ~5 above the so-called "main sequence" at z~2. We provide this library of 52 template fits with robust and uniquely well-sampled SEDs as a resource for future studies of SMGs, and also release the spectroscopic catalog of ~2000 (mostly infrared-selected) galaxies targeted as part of the spectroscopic campaign.

- Redshift survey of the nearby galaxy cluster A2107
- Short Name:
- J/ApJ/869/124
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We study the rotational motion of the galaxy cluster A2107 at redshift z=0.04 and its connection to nearby large-scale structures using a large amount of spectroscopic redshift data. By combining 978 new redshifts from the MMT/Hectospec observations with data in the literature, we construct a large sample of 1968 galaxies with measured redshifts at clustercentric radius R<60'. Our sample has high (80%) and spatially uniform completeness at r-band apparent magnitude m_r,Petro,0_<19.1. We first apply the caustic method to the sample and identify 285 member galaxies of A2107 at R<60'. Then the rotation amplitude and the position angle of the rotation axis are measured. We find that the member galaxies show strong global rotation at R<20' (v_rot_/{sigma}_v_~0.6) with a significance of >3.8{sigma}, which is confirmed by two independent methods. The rotation becomes weaker in outer regions. There are at least five filamentary structures that are connected to the cluster and that consist of known galaxy groups. These structures are smoothly connected to the cluster, which seem to be inducing the global rotation of the cluster through inflow of galaxies.

- RESOLVE survey: 21cm obs. with GBT & Arecibo
- Short Name:
- J/ApJ/832/126
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present the HI mass inventory for the REsolved Spectroscopy Of a Local VolumE (RESOLVE) survey, a volume-limited, multi-wavelength census of >1500 z=0 galaxies spanning diverse environments and complete in baryonic mass down to dwarfs of ~10^9^M_{sun}_. This first 21cm data release provides robust detections or strong upper limits (1.4M_HI_<5%-10% of stellar mass M*) for ~94% of RESOLVE. We examine global atomic gas-to-stellar mass ratios (G/S) in relation to galaxy environment using several metrics: group dark matter halo mass M_h_, central/satellite designation, relative mass density of the cosmic web, and distance to the nearest massive group. We find that at fixed M*, satellites have decreasing G/S with increasing M_h_ starting clearly at M_h_~10^12^M_{sun}_, suggesting the presence of starvation and/or stripping mechanisms associated with halo gas heating in intermediate-mass groups. The analogous relationship for centrals is uncertain because halo abundance matching builds in relationships between central G/S, stellar mass, and halo mass, which depend on the integrated group property used as a proxy for halo mass (stellar or baryonic mass). On larger scales G/S trends are less sensitive to the abundance matching method. At fixed M_h_<=10^12^M_{sun}_, the fraction of gas-poor centrals increases with large-scale structure density. In overdense regions, we identify a rare population of gas-poor centrals in low-mass (M_h_<10^11.4^M_{sun}_) halos primarily located within ~1.5x the virial radius of more massive (M_h_>10^12^M_{sun}_) halos, suggesting that gas stripping and/or starvation may be induced by interactions with larger halos or the surrounding cosmic web. We find that the detailed relationship between G/S and environment varies when we examine different subvolumes of RESOLVE independently, which we suggest may be a signature of assembly bias.

- RMS survey: NIR spectroscopy of massive YSOs
- Short Name:
- J/MNRAS/430/1125
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- Near-infrared H- and K-band spectra are presented for 247 objects, selected from the Red MSX Source (RMS) survey as potential young stellar objects (YSOs). 195 (~80%) of the targets are YSOs, of which 131 are massive YSOs (L_BOL_>5x10^3^L_{sun}_, M>8M_{sun}_). This is the largest spectroscopic study of massive YSOs to date, providing a valuable resource for the study of massive star formation. In this paper, we present our exploratory analysis of the data. The YSOs observed have a wide range of embeddedness (2.7<A_V_<114), demonstrating that this study covers minimally obscured objects right through to very red, dusty sources. Almost all YSOs show some evidence for emission lines, though there is a wide variety of observed properties. The most commonly detected lines are Br{gamma}, H_2_, fluorescent FeII, CO bandhead, [FeII] and HeI 2-1 1S-1P, in order of frequency of occurrence. In total, ~40% of the YSOs display either fluorescent FeII 1.6878{mu}m or CO bandhead emission (or both), indicative of a circumstellar disc; however, no correlation of the strength of these lines with bolometric luminosity was found. We also find that ~60% of the sources exhibit [FeII] or H_2_ emission, indicating the presence of an outflow. Three quarters of all sources have Br{gamma} in emission. A good correlation with bolometric luminosity was observed for both the Br{gamma} and H_2_ emission line strengths, covering 1<L_BOL_<3.5x10^5^L_{sun}_. This suggests that the emission mechanism for these lines is the same for low-, intermediate- and high-mass YSOs, i.e. high-mass YSOs appear to resemble scaled-up versions of low-mass YSOs.

- ROGUE. I. SDSS galaxies with FIRST

- Publisher:

- Description:
- We present the catalog of Radio sources associated with Optical Galaxies and having Unresolved or Extended morphologies I (ROGUE I), consisting of 32616 spectroscopically selected galaxies. It is the largest handmade catalog of this kind, obtained by cross-matching galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7 and radio sources from both the First Images of Radio Sky at Twenty Centimetre (FIRST) survey and the NRAO Very Large Array Sky Survey, without imposing a limit on the radio flux densities. The catalog provides a visual classification of radio and optical morphologies of galaxies presenting a FIRST core within 3" of the optical position. The radio morphological classification is performed by examining the radio-optical overlays of linear sizes equal to 1Mpc at the source distance, while the 120" image snapshots from the SDSS database are used for optical classification. The results of our search are as follows: (i) single-component unresolved and elongated radio sources constitute the major group in the ROGUE I catalog (~90%), and ~8% exhibit extended morphologies; (ii) samples of 269, 730, and 115 Fanaroff-Riley (FR) type I, II, and hybrid galaxies, respectively, are presented; (iii) we report 55 newly discovered giant/possible giant, 16 double-double, 9 X-shaped, and 25 Z-shaped radio sources; (iv) on the optical front, most galaxies have elliptical morphologies (~62%) while spirals form the second major category (~17%) followed by distorted (~12%) and lenticular (~7%) morphologies; and (v) division between the FR I and the FR II sources in the radio-optical luminosity plane is blurred, in tune with recent studies.
