- A total of 18 lists of the First Byurakan Survey of Late-Type Stars (FBS LTS) were published between 1990 and 2016. The stars were found on FBS low-dispersion spectroscopic plates. A systematic search and selection were carried out on a surface of ~16000deg^2^ on almost the whole area of the FBS. As a result, the "Revised and Updated Catalogue of the First Byurakan Survey of Late-Type Stars" was generated (FBS LTS v1; see Cat. III/266 -- 1045 objects). We present the second version of the catalogue of FBS LTS with new data (FBS LTS v2), comprising 1471 objects. It is a homogeneous and complete data base for high-Galactic-latitude, late-type stars, including M and C types. Since 2007, all FBS low-resolution spectral plates have been digitized. All digitized FBS (DFBS) spectral plates have been analysed with FITSVIEW and SAO IMAGE DS9, and numerous relatively faint LTSs have been discovered. We have performed cross-correlations with DFBS, USNO-B1.0, 2MASS, AllWISE, IRAS PSC/FSC, AKARI, ROSAT BSC/FSC, GCVS, SDSS and added updated SIMBAD data. For numerous new detected objects, we present accurate DSS2 positions, approximate spectral subtypes refined from the DFBS low-dispersion spectra, luminosity classes estimated from 2MASS colours, and available proper motions for 1471 FBS LTSs. The Revised and Updated Catalogue v2 lists a large number of completely new objects, which promises to extend very significantly the census of M giants, faint N-type asymptotic giant branch carbon stars, CH-type carbon giants at high Galactic latitudes, and M dwarfs in the Solar vicinity up to 16.0-17.0mag in the visual. Some important data from Gaia DR2 and supplementary spectra from the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory 2.6m and LAMOST telescopes are presented.

- We perform a study of stellar flares for the 24809 stars observed with 2 minute cadence during the first two months of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission. Flares may erode exoplanets' atmospheres and impact their habitability, but might also trigger the genesis of life around small stars. TESS provides a new sample of bright dwarf stars in our galactic neighborhood, collecting data for thousands of M dwarfs that might host habitable exoplanets. Here, we use an automated search for flares accompanied by visual inspection. Then, our public allesfitter code robustly selects the appropriate model for potentially complex flares via Bayesian evidence. We identify 1228 flaring stars, 673 of which are M dwarfs. Among 8695 flares in total, the largest superflare increased the stellar brightness by a factor of 16.1. Bolometric flare energies range from 10^31.0^ to 10^36.9^erg, with a median of 10^33.1^erg. Furthermore, we study the flare rate and energy as a function of stellar type and rotation period. We solidify past findings that fast rotating M dwarfs are the most likely to flare and that their flare amplitude is independent of the rotation period. Finally, we link our results to criteria for prebiotic chemistry, atmospheric loss through coronal mass ejections, and ozone sterilization. Four of our flaring M dwarfs host exoplanet candidates alerted on by TESS, for which we discuss how these effects can impact life. With upcoming TESS data releases, our flare analysis can be expanded to almost all bright small stars, aiding in defining criteria for exoplanet habitability.

- We present the fundamental properties of 87 stars based on angular diameter measurements from the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer, 36 of which have not been measured previously using interferometry. Our sample consists of 5 dwarfs, 3 subgiants, 69 giants, 3 bright giants, and 7 supergiants, and span a wide range of spectral classes from B to M. We combined our angular diameters with photometric and distance information from the literature to determine each star's physical radius, effective temperature, bolometric flux, luminosity, mass, and age.

- On the one hand, the second data release of the Gaia mission (GaiaDR2, Cat. I/345) has opened a trove of astrometric and photometric data for Galactic clusters within a few kpc of the Sun. On the other hand, lucky imaging has been an operational technique to measure the relative positions of visual binary systems for a decade and a half, a time sufficient to apply its results to the calculation of orbits of some massive multiple systems within ~1kpc of the Sun. As part of an ambitious research program to measure distances to Galactic stellar groups (including clusters) containing O stars,I start with two of the nearest examples: Collinder 419 in Cygnus and NGC 2264 in Monoceros. The main ionizing source for both clusters is a multiple system with an O-type primary: HD 193322 and 15 Mon, respectively. For each of those two multiple systemsI aim to derive new astrometric orbits for the Aa,Ab components. First, I present a method that usesGaiaDR2 G+G_BP_+G_RP_ photometry, positions, proper motions, and parallaxes to obtain the membership and distance of a stellar group and apply it to Collinder 419 and NGC 2264. Second, I present a new code that calculates astrometric orbits by searching the whole seven-parameter orbit space and apply it to HD 193 322 Aa,Ab and 15 Mon Aa,Abusing as input literature data from the Washington Double Star Catalog (WDS) and the AstraLux measurements recently presented by Maiz Apellaniz et al. (2019, Cat. J/A+A/626/A20) I obtain GaiaDR2 distances of 1006^+37^_-34_pc for Collinder 419 and 719+/-16pc for NGC 2264, with the main contribution to the uncertainties coming from the spatial covariance of the parallaxes. The two NGC 2264 subclusters are at the same distance (within the uncertainties) and they show a significant relative proper motion. The distances are shown to be robust. HD 193322 Aa,Ab follows an eccentric (e=0.58^+0.03^_-0.04_) orbit with a period of 44+/-1 a and the three stars it contains have a total mass of 76.1^+9.9^_-7.4_M_{sun}_. The orbit of 15 Mon Aa,Ab is even more eccentric (e=0.770^+0.023^_-0.030_), with a period of 108+/-12 a and a total mass of 45.1^+3.6^_-3.3_M_{sun}_ for its two stars.

- We present a catalog of 531 white dwarf candidates that have large apparent transverse motions relative to the Sun (v_T_>200km/s), thus making them likely members of the local Galactic halo population. The candidates were selected from the Gaia Data Release 2 and are located in a great circle with 20{deg} width running across both Galactic poles and the Galactic center and anticenter, a zone that spans 17.3% of the sky. The selection used a combination of kinematic and photometric properties, derived primarily from Gaia proper motions, G magnitudes, and G_BP_-G_RP_ color, and including parallax whenever available. Additional validation of the white dwarf candidates is made using PanSTARRS photometric (gri) data. Our final catalog includes not only stars having full kinematic and luminosity estimates from reliable Gaia parallax, but also stars with presently unreliable or no available Gaia parallax measurements. We argue that our method of selecting local halo objects with and without reliable parallax data leads us to round up all possible halo white dwarfs in the Gaia catalog (in that particular section of the sky) with recorded proper motions >40mas/yr and that pass our v_T_>200km/s threshold requirement. We expect this catalog will be useful for the study of the white dwarf population of the local Galactic halo.

- The Taurus-Auriga complex is the prototypical low-mass star-forming region, and provides a unique testbed of the star formation process, which left observable imprints on the spatial, kinematic, and temporal structure of its stellar population. Taurus's rich observational history has uncovered peculiarities that suggest a complicated star-forming event, such as members at large distances from the molecular clouds and evidence of an age spread. With Gaia, an in-depth study of the Taurus census is possible, to confirm membership, identify substructure, and reconstruct its star formation history. We have compiled an expansive census of the greater Taurus region, identifying spatial subgroups and confirming that Taurus is substructured across stellar density. There are two populations of subgroups: clustered groups near the clouds and sparse groups spread throughout the region. The sparse groups comprise Taurus's distributed population, which is on average older than the population near the clouds, and hosts subpopulations up to 15Myr old. The ages of the clustered groups increase with distance, suggesting that the current star formation was triggered from behind. Still, the region is kinematically coherent, and its velocity structure reflects an initial turbulent spectrum similar to Larson's Law that has been modified by dynamical relaxation. Overall, Taurus has a complicated star formation history, with at least two epochs of star formation featuring both clustered and distributed modes. Given the correlations between age and spatial distribution, Taurus might be part of a galaxy-scale star-forming event that can only begin to be understood in the Gaia era.

- This paper reports 209 O-type stars found with LAMOST. All 135 new O-type stars discovered so far with LAMOST are given. Among them, 94 stars are first presented in this sample. There are 1 Iafpe star, 5 Onfp stars, 12 Oe stars, 1 Ofc stars, 3 ON stars, 16 double-lined spectroscopic binaries, and 33 single-lined spectroscopic binaries. All O-type stars are determined based on LAMOST low-resolution spectra (R~1800), with their LAMOST median-resolution spectra (R~7500) as supplements.

- The XMM-Newton Distant Cluster Project (XDCP) aims at the identification of a well defined sample of X-ray selected clusters of galaxies at redshifts z>0.8. As part of this project, we analyse the deep XMM-Newton exposure covering one of the CFHTLS deep fields to quantify the cluster content. We validate the optical follow-up strategy as well as the X-ray selection function. We search for extended X-ray sources in archival XMM-Newton EPIC observations. Multi-band optical imaging is performed to select high redshift cluster candidates among the extended X-ray sources. Here we present a catalogue of the extended sources in one the deepest LBQS ~250ks XMM-Newton fields targeting LBQS J2212-1759 covering ~0.2 square degrees. The cluster identification is based, among others, on deep imaging with the ESO VLT and from the CFHT legacy survey. The confirmation of cluster candidates is done by VLT/FORS2 multi-object spectroscopy. Photometric redshifts from the CFHTLS D4 are utilized to confirm the effectiveness of the X-ray cluster selection method. The survey sensitivity is computed with extensive Monte-Carlo simulations. At a flux limit of S(0.5-2.0keV)~2.5e-15erg/s/cm2 we achieve a completeness level higher than 50% in an area of ~0.13 square degrees. We detect six galaxy clusters above this limit with optical counterparts, of which 5 are new spectroscopic discoveries. Two newly discovered X-ray luminous galaxy clusters are at z>1.0, another two at z=0.41 and one at z=0.34. For the most distant X-ray selected cluster in this field at z=1.45 we find additional (active) member galaxies from both X-ray and spectroscopic data. Additionally, we find evidence of large scale structures at moderate redshifts of z=0.41 and z=0.34. The quest for distant clusters in archival XMM-Newton data has led to the detection of six clusters in a single field, making XMM-Newton an outstanding tool for cluster surveys. Three of these clusters are at z>1, which emphasises the valuable contribution of small, yet deep surveys to cosmology. Beta-models are appropriate descriptions for the cluster surface brightness to perform cluster detection simulations in order to compute the X-ray selection function. The constructed log N-log S tends to favour a scenario where no evolution in the cluster X-ray luminosity function (XLF) takes place.

- The search for gamma-ray burst (GRB) emission in the energy range of 1-100 GeV in coincidence with the satellite detection has been carried out using the Astrophysical Radiation with Ground-based Observatory at YangBaJing (ARGO-YBJ) experiment. The high-altitude location (4300 m a.s.l.), the large active surface (~6700 m^2^ of Resistive Plate Chambers), the wide field of view (~2 sr, limited only by the atmospheric absorption), and the high duty cycle (>86%) make the ARGO-YBJ experiment particularly suitable to detect short and unexpected events like GRBs. With the scaler mode technique, i.e., counting all the particles hitting the detector with no measurement of the primary energy and arrival direction, the minimum threshold of ~1 GeV can be reached, overlapping the direct measurements carried out by satellites. During the experiment lifetime from 2004 December 17 to 2013 February 7, a total of 206 GRBs occurring within the ARGO-YBJ field of view (zenith angle {theta}<=45{deg}) have been analyzed. This is the largest sample of GRBs investigated with a ground-based detector. Two light curve models have been assumed and since in both cases no significant excess has been found, the corresponding fluence upper limits in the 1-100 GeV energy region have been derived, with values as low as 10^-5^ erg/cm2. The analysis of a subset of 24 GRBs with known redshift has been used to constrain the fluence extrapolation to the GeV region together with possible cutoffs under different assumptions on the spectrum.

- This is the third installment of the Galactic O-Star Spectroscopic Survey (GOSSS), a massive spectroscopic survey of Galactic O stars, based on new homogeneous, high signal-to-noise ratio, R~2500 digital observations selected from the Galactic O-Star Catalog. In this paper, we present 142 additional stellar systems with O stars from both hemispheres, bringing the total of O-type systems published within the project to 590. Among the new objects, there are 20 new O stars. We also identify 11 new double-lined spectroscopic binaries, 6 of which are of O+O type and 5 of O+B type, and an additional new tripled-lined spectroscopic binary of O+O+B type. We also revise some of the previous GOSSS classifications, present some egregious examples of stars erroneously classified as O-type in the past, introduce the use of luminosity class IV at spectral types O4-O5.5, and adapt the classification scheme to the work of Arias et al.
