- Future space-borne astrometry missions, such as Gaia, will be able to determine the optical positions of hundreds of quasars with submilliarcsecond accuracies comparable to those achieved in radio by very long baseline interferometry (VLBI). Comparisons of coordinate systems from space-borne missions and VLBI will be very important, first for investigations of possible systematic errors and second for investigations of possible shifts between centroids of radio and optical emissions in active galactic nuclei. In order to make such a comparison more robust, a program for densification of the grid of radio sources detectable with both VLBI and Gaia was launched in 2006. Program sources are 398 quasars with declinations >-10{deg} that are brighter than 18mag at the V band. The first two observing campaigns were run in 2007-2008. In the third campaign, a set of 291 objects from that list was observed with the VLBA+EVN in 2010-2011 with the primary goal of producing their images with milliarcsecond resolution. In this paper, following the method of absolute astrometry, coordinates of observed sources have been derived with milliarcsecond accuracies from analysis of these observations. The catalog of positions of 295 target sources, estimates of their correlated flux densities at 2.2 and 8.4GHz, and their images are presented. The accuracies of source coordinates are in a range of 2-200mas, with a median of 3.2mas.

- This catalog presents a sample of 229236 optically variable quasar candidates identified in the AllWISE and Pan-STARRS1 data releases at 2-sigma and 3-sigma variability levels. Mid-IR bands (3.4, 4.6, 12 and 22um) are selected from the AllWISE data release, and 5 optical bands (grizy) are from Pan-STARRS1. 127350 quasars are found to be variable at the 3-sigma level.

- We present an 8-band (u*, g', r', i', z', Y, J, Ks) optical to near-infrared deep photometric catalogue based on the observations made with MegaCam and WIRCam at CFHT, and compute photometric redshifts, zph in the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) region, where AKARI infrared satellite carried out deep survey at near to mid infrared wavelength. We designed the catalogue to include sources detected in z' band with counterparts in at least one of the other bands, and found 85797 sources in the NEP field. Comparing with galaxy spectroscopic redshifts, photometric redshift dispersion {sigma}({Delta}z/(1+z)) is 0.032 and catastrophic failure rate {Delta}z/(1+z)>0.15 is 5.8% at z<1. Our redshifts are highly accurate with z'<22 at zph<2.5 and for fainter sources with z'<24 at z<1.

- We present U, B, V, I broadband, 6200{AA} TiO medium band, and H{alpha} narrow band photometry of the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC) obtained with the WFI imager at the ESO/MPI 2.2 telescope at La Silla Observatory. The nearly simultaneous observations cover the entire ONC in a field of about 34x34arcmin^2^. They enable us to determine stellar colors avoiding the additional scatter in the photometry induced by stellar variability typical of pre-main-sequence stars. We identify 2612 point-like sources in the I band; 58%, 43%, and 17% of them are also detected in V, B, and U, respectively. 1040 sources are identified in the H{alpha} band. In this paper we present the observations, the calibration techniques adopted, and the resulting catalog. We show the derived color-magnitude diagram of the population and discuss the completeness of our photometry. We define a spectrophotometric TiO index that takes into account the fluxes in the V, I, and TiO bands. Comparing it with spectral types of ONC members in the literature, we find a correlation between the index and the spectral type valid for M-type stars, which is accurate to better than 1 spectral subclass for M3-M6 types and better than 2 spectral subclasses for M0-M2 types. This allows us to newly classify 217 stars.

- We use a dense, complete redshift survey, the Smithsonian Hectospec Lensing Survey (SHELS), covering a 4deg^2^ region of a deep imaging survey, the Deep Lens Survey (DLS), to study the optical spectral properties of Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) 22{mu}m selected galaxies. Among 507 WISE 22{mu}m selected sources with (S/N)_22{mu}m_>=3 ({approx}S_22{mu}m_>~2.5mJy), we identify the optical counterparts of 481 sources (~98%) at R<25.2 in the very deep, DLS R-band source catalog. Among them, 337 galaxies at R<21 have SHELS spectroscopic data. Most of these objects are at z<0.8. The infrared (IR) luminosities are in the range 4.5x10^8^(L_{sun}_)<~L_IR_<~5.4x10^12^(L_{sun}_). Most 22{mu}m selected galaxies are dusty star-forming galaxies with a small (<1.5) 4000{AA} break. The stacked spectra of the 22 {mu}m selected galaxies binned in IR luminosity show that the strength of the [O III] line relative to H{beta} grows with increasing IR luminosity. The optical spectra of the 22{mu}m selected galaxies also show that there are some (~2.8%) unusual galaxies with very strong [Ne III] {lambda}3869, 3968 emission lines that require hard ionizing radiation such as active galactic nuclei (AGNs) or extremely young massive stars. The specific star formation rates (sSFRs) derived from the 3.6 and 22{mu}m flux densities are enhanced if the 22{mu}m selected galaxies have close late-type neighbors. The sSFR distribution of the 22{mu}m selected galaxies containing AGNs is similar to the distribution for star-forming galaxies without AGNs. We identify 48 dust-obscured galaxy candidates with large (>~1000) mid-IR to optical flux density ratio. The combination of deep photometric and spectroscopic data with WISE data suggests that WISE can probe the universe to z~2.

- We describe the final product of the North Celestial Cap Survey (NCCS) - the optical-UV-IR merged catalogue for the region within 10{deg} of the North Celestial Pole. The North Celestial Cap (NCC) region at {delta}>=80{deg} is poorly covered by modern CCD-based surveys. The optical part of the survey was observed in V, R and I with the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) Observatory telescopes and was merged with GALEX UV and WISE IR data, producing the catalogue. More than four million objects were observed in at least one optical band. The final catalogue contains ~1.6 million sources observed in all three optical bands, of which some 1.4 million have WISE counterparts and ~300000 have GALEX counterparts. The astrometric accuracy of the optical NCCS data, derived from a comparison with the UCAC3 catalogue, is better than 0.2-arcsec and the photometry, when compared with Sloan Digital Sky Survey, is good to ~0.15mag for sources brighter than V=20.3, R=21.0 and I=19.2mag. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey point-extended source separation is reproduced with >92 per cent efficiency.

- We study variability of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) by using the deep optical multiband photometry data obtained from the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC SSP) survey in the COSMOS field. The images analyzed here were taken with 8, 10, 13, and 15 epochs over three years in the g, r, i, and z bands, respectively. We identified 491 robust variable AGN candidates, down to i=25mag and with redshift up to 4.26. Ninety percent of the variability-selected AGNs are individually identified with the X-ray sources detected in the Chandra COSMOS Legacy survey. We investigate their properties in variability by using structure function analysis and find that the structure function for low-luminosity AGNs (L_bol_<~10^45^erg/s) shows a positive correlation with luminosity, which is the opposite trend for the luminous quasars. This trend is likely to be caused by a larger contribution of the host galaxy light for lower-luminosity AGNs. Using the model templates of galaxy spectra, we evaluate the amount of host galaxy contribution to the structure function analysis and find that dominance of the young stellar population is needed to explain the observed luminosity dependence. This suggests that low-luminosity AGNs at 0.8<~z<~1.8 are predominantly hosted in star-forming galaxies. The X-ray stacking analysis reveals the significant emission from the individually X-ray undetected AGNs in our variability-selected sample. The stacked samples show very large hardness ratios in their stacked X-ray spectrum, which suggests that these optically variable sources have large soft X-ray absorption by dust-free gas.

- The size of the dust torus in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and their high-luminosity counterparts, quasars, can be inferred from the time delay between UV/optical accretion disk continuum variability and the response in the mid-infrared (MIR) torus emission. This dust reverberation mapping (RM) technique has been successfully applied to ~70 z<~0.3 AGNs and quasars. Here we present first results of our dust RM program for distant quasars covered in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Stripe 82 region combining ~20yr ground-based optical light curves with 10yr MIR light curves from the WISE satellite. We measure a high-fidelity lag between W1 band (3.4{mu}m) and g band for 587 quasars over 0.3<~z<~2 (<z>~0.8) and two orders of magnitude in quasar luminosity. They tightly follow (intrinsic scatter ~0.17dex in lag) the IR lag-luminosity relation observed for z<0.3 AGNs, revealing a remarkable size-luminosity relation for the dust torus over more than four decades in AGN luminosity, with little dependence on additional quasar properties such as Eddington ratio and variability amplitude. This study motivates further investigations in the utility of dust RM for cosmology and strongly endorses a compelling science case for the combined 10yr Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (optical) and 5yr Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope 2{mu}m light curves in a deep survey for low-redshift AGN dust RM with much lower luminosities and shorter, measurable IR lags. The compiled optical and MIR light curves for 7384 quasars in our parent sample are made public with this work.

- This survey comprises the compressed digitization of the Southern Sky Survey and the Palomar Sky Survey E plates as distributed on CD ROM by the Space Telescope Science Institute. Coverage of the entire sky is included. This survey consists of the digititized Southern Sky Survey conducted at the UK Southern Schmidt Survey Group by the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh (prior to 1988) and the Anglo-Australian Observatory (since 1988) Additional plates covering regions with bright objects are also included. The plates were digitized at the Space Telescope Science Institute and compressed using algorithms developed by R.White. These data are distributed on a set of 101 CD-ROMs. <P> The following data are included: <DL> <DT>Southern hemisphere <DD> SERC Southern Sky Survey and the SERC J Equatorial extension. These are typically deep, 3600s, IIIa-J exposures with a GG395 filter. Also included are 94 short (1200s) V exposures typically at Galactic latitudes below 15&#176;;. Special exposures are included in the regions of the Magellenic clouds. <DT>Northern hemisphere <dd> The northern hemisphere is covered by 644 plates from the POSS E survey. - We report on a survey of the brightest portions of the Orion Nebula made with the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 of the Hubble Space Telescope. Fifteen paintings were made, each employing interference filters isolating the principal emission lines of HI, [NII], and [OIII] and another isolating an interval similar to the V bandpass. A careful survey of compact objects of stellar and nearly stellar appearance was made and astrometric solutions for individual fields were used to determine positions accurate to about 0.1". 344 stars were measured, down to about V=22. In addition to structures in several of the previously known Herbig-Haro objects, 145 compact sources that can be classified as proplyds were found. Proplyds are young stars surrounded by circumstellar material which is rendered visible by being in or near an HII region. In the central region, where detection of proplyds is easiest, almost all of the low-mass pre-main-sequence stars have obvious circumstellar material. The fraction falls as one views areas away from the dominant photoionizing star {theta}^1^C Ori. Six new dark disk proplyds are found, bringing the total to seven. These are objects showing only in silhouette against the bright background of the HII region. Most of these are elliptical in form, indicating that they are circumstellar disks. In addition to these compact sources, the new images allow detection of numerous large structures previously unreported from ground-based observations. These include shells and shocks apparently related to Herbig-Haro objects and high velocity outflows from young stellar objects.
