- We present a study of a 20cm selected sample in the Deep Spitzer Wide-area InfraRed Extragalactic Legacy Survey Very Large Array Field, reaching a 5{sigma} limiting flux density at the image center of S_1.4GHz_~13.5uJy. In a 0.6x0.6deg^2^ field, we are able to assign an optical/IR counterpart to 97% of the radio sources. Up to 11 passbands from the NUV to 4.5um are then used to sample the spectral energy distribution (SED) of these counterparts in order to investigate the nature of the host galaxies. By means of an SED template library and stellar population synthesis models, we estimate photometric redshifts, stellar masses, and stellar population properties, dividing the sample into three sub-classes of quiescent, intermediate, and star-forming galaxies. We focus on the radio sample in the redshift range 0.3<z<1.3 where we estimate to have a redshift completeness higher than 90% and study the properties and redshift evolution of these sub-populations.

- We present the catalogue resulting from the ESO Nearby Abell Cluster Survey (the ENACS), which contains redshifts and magnitudes for 5634 galaxies in the directions of 107 rich, nearby southern Abell cluster candidates. We describe the contents of the catalogue and discuss the results of a comparison between the ENACS catalogue and the COSMOS Galaxy Catalogue. When cross-correlating the two catalogues we find that, at least in the areas of the ENACS clusters, the completeness of the COSMOS catalogue is somewhat lower than was estimated previously for the carefully analyzed and well-calibrated part of the COSMOS catalogue known as the Edinburgh-Durham Southern Galaxy Survey (EDSGC). The galaxy positions in the COSMOS and ENACS catalogues are found to be on the same system to within about one arcsecond. For the clusters for which the photometry in the ENACS and COSMOS catalogues is based on the same survey plates, the two magnitude scales agree very well. We confirm that the photometric calibration in the EDSGC subset of the COSMOS catalogue is of higher quality than in the EDSGC complement. The ENACS galaxy samples are unbiased subsets of the COSMOS catalogue as far as the projected galaxy distribution is concerned, except in only a few cases. We summarize how the ENACS galaxy samples are subsets of the COSMOS catalogues in the ENACS apertures, with respect to magnitude. For the ENACS catalogue as a whole, we describe the apparent incompleteness at faint magnitudes and towards higher redshifts. Finally, we provide some detailed information about the ENACS catalogue that is essential for its proper statistical use and we summarize some facts that must be remembered when selecting subsets of galaxies from it. - We present an attempt to reconstruct the complete evolutionary path followed by cataclysmic variables (CVs), based on the observed mass-radius relationship of their donor stars. Along the way, we update the semi-empirical CV donor sequence presented previously by one of us, present a comprehensive review of the connection between CV evolution and the secondary stars in these systems, and reexamine most of the commonly used magnetic braking (MB) recipes, finding that even conceptually similar ones can differ greatly in both magnitude and functional form.

- We present the results of an extension of the FIRST Bright Quasar Survey (FBQS) to the South Galactic cap, and to a fainter optical magnitude limit. Radio source counterparts with SERC R magnitudes brighter than 18.9 which meet the other FBQS criteria are included. We supplement this list with a modest number of additional objects to test our completeness for quasars with extended radio morphologies. The survey covers 589deg^2^ in two equatorial strips in the southern cap. We have obtained spectra for 86% of the 522 candidates and find 321 radio-selected quasars of which 264 are reported here for the first time. A comparison of this fainter sample with the FBQS sample shows the two to be generally similar. Fourteen new broad absorption line (BAL) quasars are included in this sample. When combined with the previously identified BAL quasars in our earlier papers, we can discern a break in the frequency of BAL quasars with radio loudness, namely that the relative number of high-ionization BAL quasars drops by a factor of 4 for quasars with a radio-loudness parameter R*>100.

- We present the results of a search for potential transit signals in the first three quarters of photometry data acquired by the Kepler mission. The targets of the search include 151722 stars which were observed over the full interval and an additional 19132 stars which were observed for only one or two quarters. From this set of targets we find a total of 5392 detections which meet the Kepler detection criteria: those criteria are periodicity of signal, an acceptable signal-to-noise ratio, and a composition test which rejects spurious detections which contain non-physical combinations of events. The detected signals are dominated by events with relatively low signal-to-noise ratio and by events with relatively short periods. The distribution of estimated transit depths appears to peak in the range between 40 and 100 parts per million, with a few detections down to fewer than 10 parts per million. The detections exhibit signal-to-noise ratios from 7.1{sigma}, which is the lower cutoff for detections, to over 10000{sigma}, and periods ranging from 0.5 days, which is the lower cutoff used in the procedure, to 109 days, which is the upper limit of achievable periods given the length of the data set and the criteria used for detections. The detected signals are compared to a set of known transit events in the Kepler field of view which were derived by a different method using a longer data interval; the comparison shows that the current search correctly identified 88.1% of the known events.

Also included are 25015 high-confidence SDSS-based photometric quasars with radio/X-ray associations, 1595 BL Lac objects, and 32783 type 2 objects. Each object is displayed with arcsecond-accurate astrometry, red and blue photometry, redshift, citations, and radio and X-ray associations where present. Also, 114 new spectroscopically confirmed quasars are presented.
