- We present the multiwavelength ultraviolet to mid-infrared catalog of the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Ultra-Deep Survey field observed as part of the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS). Based on publicly available data, the catalog includes the CANDELS data from the Hubble Space Telescope (near-infrared WFC3 F125W and F160W data and visible ACS F606W and F814W data); u-band data from CFHT/Megacam; B, V, Rc, i', and z' band data from Subaru/Suprime-Cam; Y and Ks band data from VLT/HAWK-I; J, H, and K band data from UKIDSS (Data Release 8); and Spitzer/IRAC data (3.6, 4.5um from SEDS; 5.8 and 8.0um from SpUDS). The present catalog is F160W-selected and contains 35932 sources over an area of 201.7arcmin^2^ and includes radio- and X-ray-detected sources and spectroscopic redshifts available for 210 sources.

- We study the evolution of the number density, as a function of the size, of passive early-type galaxies (ETGs) with a wide range of stellar masses (10^10^M_{sun}_<M_*_<~10^11.5^M_{sun}_) from z~3 to z~1, exploiting the unique data set available in the GOODS-South field, including the recently obtained WFC3 images as part of the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS). In particular, we select a sample of ~107 massive (M_*_>10^10^M_{sun}_), passive (SSFR<10^-2^/Gyr), and morphologically spheroidal galaxies at 1.2<z<3, taking advantage of the panchromatic data set available for GOODS, including VLT, CFHT, Spitzer, Chandra, and HST ACS+WFC3 data. We find that at 1<z<3 the passively evolving ETGs are the reddest and most massive objects in the universe, and we prove that a correlation between mass, morphology, color, and star formation activity is already in place at that epoch. We measure a significant evolution in the mass-size relation of passive ETGs from z~3 to z~1, with galaxies growing on average by a factor of two in size in a 3Gyr timescale only. We also witness an increase in the number density of passive ETGs of 50 times over the same time interval. We find that the first ETGs to form at z>~2 are all compact or ultra-compact, while normal-sized ETGs (meaning ETGs with sizes comparable to those of local counterparts of the same mass) are the most common ETGs only at z<1. The increase of the average size of ETGs at 0<z<1 is primarily driven by the appearance of new large ETGs rather than by the size increase of individual galaxies.

- The AKARI Deep Field-South (ADF-S) is a ~12deg^2^ region near the South Ecliptic Pole that has been observed with deep scans in the far-infrared by the AKARI satellite. As such it is becoming one of the key extragalactic survey fields. We here present complementary observations of the ADF-S conducted by the Spitzer Space Telescope at wavelengths of 24 and 70um. We extract source catalogues at each of these wavelengths reaching depths of ~0.2mJy at 24um and ~20mJy at 70um. We also apply a K-to-24um colour criterion to select objects with galaxy-like colours in the 24-um survey. Completeness corrections as a function of flux density are derived for both catalogues by injecting artificial sources of known flux density into the maps, and we find that our surveys are 50 per cent complete at 0.26 and 24mJy at 24 and 70um, respectively.

- This paper describes the observations and data reduction techniques for the version 2.0 images and catalog of the Near-Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer Ultra Deep Field (NICMOS UDF) Treasury program. All sources discussed in this paper are based on detections in the combined NICMOS F110W and F160W bands only. The NICMOS images are drizzled to 0.09"/pixel and aligned to the Advanced Camera for Surveys UDF F850LP image, which was rebinned to the same pixel scale. These form the NICMOS version 2.0 UDF images. The catalog sources are chosen with a conservative detection limit to avoid the inclusion of numerous spurious sources. The catalog contains 1293 objects in the 144"x144" NICMOS subfield of the UDF. The 5{sigma} signal-to-noise ratio level is an average 0.6" diameter aperture AB magnitude of 27.7 at 1.1 and 1.6{mu}m. The catalog sources, listed in order of right ascension, satisfy a minimum signal-to-noise ratio criterion of 1.4{sigma} in at least seven contiguous pixels of the combined F110W and F160W image. Ten of the sources detected by the source extraction program SExtractor (SE) are not included in the catalog, leaving 1283 of the 1293 detected sources.

- This Catalog of Star-Forming Regions in the Galaxy contains coordinates and fluxes of young objects in the radio and infrared, as well as data on the radial velocities of recombination and molecular lines, for more than three thousand star-forming regions. In addition to photometric and kinematic data, we present information on diffuse and reflecting nebulae, dark and molecular clouds, and other objects related to young stars. The catalog consists of two parts. The main catalog lists star-forming regions in order of Galactic longitude and is supplemented by analogous information for star-forming regions in complexes of dark clouds with large angular sizes that are closest to the Sun. In our preliminary study of the catalog data using a formal classification of the star-forming regions, we subdivided these objects into several classes and characterized them as being populated primarily by massive or low-mass stars at early or late stages of the star-formation process. We also distinguish between relatively nearby and distant complexes.

- Currently, the global characteristics and evolution of super star clusters (SSCs) are not well understood, due to the large distances to their host galaxies. We aim to study the population of SSCs in IRAS 17138-1017, a luminous infrared galaxy (LIRG), in terms of age, extinction, mass, and luminosity distribution. We analyzed imaging data in the near-infrared from the GeMS/GSAOI instrument on the Gemini telescope and generated simulations with the radiative transfer code MontAGN. The extraction of SSCs from the images and their photometry in J, H, and Ks allowed us to derive color-color and color-magnitude diagrams. Comparison with a theoretical stellar evolutionary track gives a first hint into the extinction towards each SSC, as well as their ages, despite some degeneracy between those two quantities. Spectra given by our radiative transfer code MontAGN, which includes dust emission, also provide insightful predictions and comparisons. We detect with a fair degree of confidence 54 SSCs of m_Ks between 16 mag and 21 mag with a median instrumental uncertainty of 0.05 mag. When plotted on a color-color diagram and a color-magnitude diagram, it appears that most of the sources are very much extinct with respect to an intrinsic theoretical evolutionary track. Once de-reddened, the colors point unambiguously to two distinct and very recent starburst episodes at 2.8 and 4.5Myr. While the SSCs in the 4.5Myr starburst are distributed along the spiral arms, the 2.8Myr SSCs are concentrated in the central region. The luminosity and mass functions present a classical power-law behavior, although with shallower slopes than generally observed in LIRGs. Comparison with radiative transfer simulations shows that, especially for the youngest SSCs, the thermal emission by dust is not negligible and could explain the few very red SSCs that could not be de-reddened safely. This effect could lead to a misevaluation of the age of the starburst by at most 1 or 2Myr.

- A catalogue of the features for the complete Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G), including 2352 nearby galaxies, is presented. The measurements are made using 3.6um images, largely tracing the old stellar population; at this wavelength the effects of dust are also minimal. The measured features are the sizes, ellipticities, and orientations of bars, rings, ringlenses, and lenses. Measured in a similar manner are also barlenses (lens-like structures embedded in the bars), which are not lenses in the usual sense, being rather the more face-on counterparts of the boxy/peanut structures in the edge-on view. In addition, pitch angles of spiral arm segments are measured for those galaxies where they can be reliably traced. More than one pitch angle may appear for a single galaxy. All measurements are made in a human- supervised manner so that attention is paid to each galaxy. We create a catalogue of morphological features in the complete S4G. We used isophotal analysis, unsharp masking, and fitting ellipses to measured structures. We find that the sizes of the inner rings and lenses normalized to barlength correlate with the galaxy mass: the normalized sizes increase toward the less massive galaxies; it has been suggested that this is related to the larger dark matter content in the bar region in these systems. Bars in the low mass galaxies are also less concentrated, likely to be connected to the mass cut-off in the appearance of the nuclear rings and lenses. We also show observational evidence that barlenses indeed form part of the bar, and that a large fraction of the inner lenses in the non-barred galaxies could be former barlenses in which the thin outer bar component has dissolved.

- We have compiled a catalogue of the gas content for a sample of 1916 galaxies, considered to be a fair representation of normality. The definition of a normal galaxy adopted in this work implies that we have purposely excluded from the catalogue galaxies having distorted morphology (such as interaction bridges, tails or lopsidedness) and/or any signature of peculiar kinematics (such as polar rings, counterrotating disks or other decoupled components). In contrast, we have included systems hosting active galactic nuclei (AGN) in the catalogue. This catalogue revises previous compendia on the ISM content of galaxies published by Bregman et al. (1992ApJ...387..484B) and Casoli et al. (1998A&A...331..451C), and compiles data available in the literature from several small samples of galaxies. Masses for warm dust, atomic and molecular gas, as well as X-ray luminosities have been converted to a uniform distance scale taken from the Catalogue of Principal Galaxies (PGC). We have used two different normalization factors to explore the variation of the gas content along the Hubble sequence: the blue luminosity (LB) and the square of linear diameter (D_25_^2^). Our catalogue significantly improves the statistics of previous reference catalogues and can be used in future studies to define a template ISM content for normal galaxies along the Hubble sequence.
