- Measurements of 544 radial velocities, 229 optical and 315 in the 21cm HI line, are presented for galaxies, mostly in the declination strip +33.5 deg<Dec<+39.5deg in the region of the Pisces-Perseus supercluster. These are combined with other available data to investigate the linear structure identified as the main supercluster ridge. The main ridge of the supercluster extends at least 50h^-1Mpc before it disappears into the zone of avoidance east of Perseus. Confinement both on the plane of the sky and in the velocity dimension imply an axial ratio of greater than ten to one and an inclination with respect to the plane of the sky of less than about 12 degrees. The smoothed volume density contrast over the whole ridge averages more than a factor of 6 relative to the average density derived for the whole sample. The relative proximity, low inclination to the plane of the sky, and high contrast relative to the foreground and background, help to make the Pisces-Perseus filament one of the most prominent features in the extragalactic sky on large scales.

- The connection of cluster mergers with the presence of extended, diffuse radio sources in galaxy clusters is still debated. We aim to obtain new insights into the internal dynamics of the cluster Abell 2345. This cluster exhibits two non-symmetric radio relics well studied through recent, deep radio data. Our analysis is based on redshift data for 125 galaxies acquired at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo and on new photometric data acquired at the Isaac Newton Telescope. We also use ROSAT/HRI archival X-ray data. We combine galaxy velocities and positions to select 98 cluster galaxies and analyze the internal dynamics of the cluster.

- We study the dynamical status of the galaxy system ZwCl 2341.1+0000, a filamentary multi-Mpc galaxy structure associated with a complex diffuse radio emission. Our analysis is mainly based on new spectroscopic data for 128 galaxies acquired at the Italian Telescopio Nazionale Galileo. We also use optical data available in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and X-ray data from the Chandra archive. We select 101 cluster member galaxies and compute the cluster redshift <z>~0.2693 and the global line-of-sight velocity dispersion {sigma}_V_~1000km/s. Our optical analysis agrees with the presence of at least three, likely four or more, optical subclusters causing the south-south-east-north-north-west (SSE-NNW) elongation of the galaxy distribution and a significant velocity gradient in the south-north direction. In particular, we detect an important low-velocity subclump in the southern region, roughly coincident with the brightest peak of the diffuse radio emission but with a clear offset between the optical and radio peaks. We also detect one (or two) optical subcluster(s) at north, in correspondence with the second brightest radio emission, and another one in the central cluster region, where a third diffuse radio source has been recently detected. A more refined analysis involving the study of the 2D galaxy distribution suggests an even more complex structure. Depending on the adopted model, we obtain a mass estimate M_sys_~1-3x10^15^h_70_^-1^M_{sun} for the whole system. As for the X-ray analysis, we confirm the SSE-NNW elongation of the intracluster medium and detect four significant peaks. The X-ray emission is strongly asymmetric and offsetted with respect to the galaxy distribution, thus suggesting a merger caught in the phase of post-core-core passage. Our findings support two possible hypotheses for the nature of the diffuse radio emission of ZwCl 2341.1+0000: a two relics + halo scenario or diffuse emission associated with the infall and merging of several galaxy groups during the first phase of the cluster formation.

- The connection of cluster mergers with the presence of extended, diffuse radio sources in galaxy clusters is still debated. An interesting case is the rich, merging cluster Abell 520, containing a radio halo. A recent gravitational analysis has shown in this cluster the presence of a massive dark core suggested to be a possible problem for the current cold dark matter paradigm. We aim to obtain new insights into the internal dynamics of Abell 520 analyzing velocities and positions of member galaxies. Our analysis is based on redshift data for 293 galaxies in the cluster field obtained combining new redshift data for 8 galaxies acquired at the TNG with data obtained by CNOC team and other few data from the literature. We also use new photometric data obtained at the INT telescope. We combine galaxy velocities and positions to select 167 cluster members around z~0.201. We analyze the cluster structure using the weighted gap analysis, the KMM method, the Dressler-Shectman statistics and the analysis of the velocity dispersion profiles. We compare our results with those from X-ray, radio and gravitational lensing analyses.

- We acquired radial velocities of a significant number of globular clusters (GCs) on wide fields between galaxies in the nearby Fornax cluster of galaxies, in order to derive their velocity dispersion radial profile and to probe the dynamics of the cluster. We used FLAMES on the VLT to obtain accurate velocities for 149 GCs, within a ~500x150kpc strip centered on NGC 1399, the Fornax central galaxy. These objects are at the very bright tail (M_V_<~-9.5) of the GC luminosity function, overlapping the so-called "ultra-compact dwarfs" magnitude range. Eight of the brightest FLAMES-confirmed members indeed show hints of resolution in the subarcsecond pre-imaging data we used for selecting the ~500 targets for FLAMES spectroscopy.

- We have obtained radial velocity measurements for 51 new globular clusters around the Sombrero galaxy. These measurements were obtained using spectroscopic observations from the AAOmega spectrograph on the Anglo-Australian Telescope and the Hydra spectrograph at WIYN. Combining our own past measurements and velocity measurements obtained from the literature, we have constructed a large database of radial velocities that contains a total of 360 confirmed globular clusters. Previous studies' analyses of the kinematics and mass profile of the Sombrero globular cluster system have been constrained to the inner ~9' (~24kpc or ~5R_e_), but our new measurements have increased the radial coverage of the data, allowing us to determine the kinematic properties of M104 out to ~15' (~41kpc or ~9R_e_). We use our set of radial velocities to study the GC system kinematics and to determine the mass profile and V-band mass-to-light profile of the galaxy. We find that M/L_V_ increases from 4.5 at the center to a value of 20.9 at 41kpc (~9R_e_ or 15'), which implies that the dark matter halo extends to the edge of our available data set. We compare our mass profile at 20kpc (~4R_e_or ~7.4') to the mass computed from X-ray data and find good agreement. We also use our data to look for rotation in the globular cluster system as a whole, as well as in the red and blue subpopulations. We find no evidence for significant rotation in any of these samples.

- NGC 205 is the nearest example of a dwarf elliptical galaxy and the prototype of this enigmatic galaxy class. Photometric evidence suggests that NGC 205, a close satellite of the M31 galaxy, is tidally interacting with its parent galaxy. We present stellar radial velocity measurements out to a projected radius of 20' (5kpc) in NGC 205 based on Keck DEIMOS multislit spectroscopic observations of 725 individual red giant branch stars. Our kinematic measurements extend from the center out to 6 times the effective radius of NGC 205, well past the expected tidal radius. The contamination in our kinematic sample from M31 field stars is estimated to be a few percent based on maximum likelihood fits to the distribution of stars in position-velocity space.

- We present new radial velocities for 289 globular clusters around NGC 4636, the southernmost giant elliptical galaxy of the Virgo cluster. The data were obtained with FORS2/MXU at the Very Large Telescope. Together with data analysed in an earlier study, we now have a sample of 460 globular cluster velocities out to a radius of 12-arcmin (60kpc) available - one of the largest of its kind. This new data set also provides a much more complete angular coverage. Moreover, we present new kinematical data of the inner stellar population of NGC 4636. We perform an updated Jeans analysis, using both stellar and GC data, to better constrain the dark halo properties.
