- Dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) have been extensively investigated in the Local Group, but their low luminosity and surface brightness make similar work in more distant galaxy groups challenging. Modern instrumentation unlocks the possibility of scrutinizing these faint systems in other environments, expanding the parameter space of group properties. We use MUSE spectroscopy to study the properties of 14 known or suspected dSph satellites of Cen A. Twelve targets are confirmed to be group members based on their radial velocities. Two targets are background galaxies at ~50Mpc: KK 198 is a face-on spiral galaxy, and dw1315-45 is an ultra-diffuse galaxy with an effective radius of ~2300pc. The 12 confirmed dSph members of the Cen A group have old and metal-poor stellar populations and follow the stellar metallicity-luminosity relation defined by the dwarf galaxies in the Local Group. In the three brightest dwarf galaxies (KK 197, KKs 55, and KKs 58), we identify globular clusters, as well as a planetary nebula in KK197, although its association with this galaxy and/or the extended halo of Cen A is uncertain. Using four discrete tracers, we measure the velocity dispersion and dynamical mass of KK197. This dSph appears dark matter dominated and lies on the radial acceleration relation of star-forming galaxies within the uncertainties. It also is consistent with predictions stemming from modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND). Surprisingly, in the dwarf KK203 we find an extended H ring. Careful examination of Hubble Space Telescope photometry reveals a very low level of star formation at ages between 30-300Myr. The H{alpha} emission is most likely linked to a ~40Myr old supernova remnant, although other possibilities for its origin cannot be entirely ruled out.

- Using stellar kinematics measurements, we investigate the growth of massive, quiescent galaxies from z~2 to today. We present X-Shooter spectra from the UV to NIR and dynamical mass measurements of five quiescent massive (>10^11^M_{sun}_) galaxies at z~2. This triples the sample of z>1.5 galaxies with well-constrained ({delta}{sigma}<100km/s) velocity dispersion measurements. From spectral population synthesis modeling we find that these galaxies have stellar ages that range from 0.5 to 2Gyr, with no signs of ongoing star formation. We measure velocity dispersions (290-450km/s) from stellar absorption lines and find that they are 1.6-2.1 times higher than those of galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey at the same mass. Sizes are measured using GALFIT from Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3 H_160_ and UDS K-band images. The dynamical masses correspond well to the spectral energy distribution based stellar masses, with dynamical masses that are ~15% higher.

- We analyse long-slit spectra of four early-type galaxies which extend from ~1 to 3 effective radii: IC 1459; IC 3370; NGC 3379 and NGC 4105. We have extracted the full line-of-sight velocity distribution (in the case of NGC 3379 we also used data from the literature), which we model using the two-integral approach. Using two-integral modelling, we find no strong evidence for dark haloes, but the fits suggest that three-integral modelling is necessary. We also find that the inferred constant mass-to-light ratio in all the four cases is typical for early-type galaxies. Finally, we also discuss the constraints on the mass-to-light ratio, which can be obtained using X-ray haloes in the case of IC 1459, NGC 3379 and NGC 4105, and compare the estimated values with the predictions from the dynamical modelling.

- Here, we present an investigation of the properties of 15 nearby galaxy groups and their constituent galaxies. The groups are selected from the Group Evolution Multiwavelength Study (GEMS) and all have X-ray as well as wide-field neutral hydrogen (HI) observations. Group membership is determined using a friends-of-friends algorithm on the positions and velocities from the 6-degree Field Galaxy Survey and NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database. For each group we derive their physical properties using this membership, including: velocity dispersions (sigma_v_), virial masses (M_V_), total K-band luminosities [L_K_(Tot)] and early-type fractions (f_early_) and present these data for the individual groups.

- We present a kinematic study of three E+E galaxy pairs, NGC 741/742, 1587/1588 (CPG 99) and 2672/2673 (CPG 175). All three pairs show a similar morphological distortion (i.e. the off-centering of inner versus outer isophotes; Davoust & Prugniel 1988) which is ascribed to the ongoing interaction. The data was obtained at the CFHT equipped with the Herzberg Spectrograph at a resolution of 0.88 Apx^-1^. NGC 741 and 2673 show significant rotation along the apparent minor axis. Both components of CPG 99 rotate very fast (with no evidence for rotation along the minor axis of either component). None of the galaxies show abnormally high central velocity dispersion. We report some of the first clear detections of well defined velocity dispersion curves for interacting pairs. They show a systematic decrease with distance from the center, as expected for normal ellipticals. They do not show obvious heating in the outer parts as was previously reported. NGC 741 and 2672 show, respectively, possible U and inverse U-shaped structure in their velocity profiles.

- We present spectroscopy of 880 galaxies within a 2-degree field around the massive, merging cluster Abell 3266. This sample, which includes 704 new measurements, was combined with the existing redshifts measurements to generate a sample of over 1300 spectroscopic redshifts; the largest spectroscopic sample in the vicinity of A3266 to date. We define a cluster sub-sample of 790 redshifts which lie within a velocity range of 14000 to 22000km/s and within 1 degree of the cluster centre. A detailed structural analysis finds A3266 to have a complex dynamical structure containing six groups and filaments to the north of the cluster as well as a cluster core which can be decomposed into two components split along a northeast-southwest axis, consistent with previous X-ray observations. The mean redshift of the cluster core is found to be 0.0594+/-0.0005 and the core velocity dispersion is given as 1462+/-99km/s. The overall velocity dispersion and redshift of the entire cluster and related structures are 1337+/-67 km/s and 0.0596+/-0.0002, respectively, though the high velocity dispersion does not represent virialised motions but rather is due to relative motions of the cluster components. We posit A3266 is seen following a merger along the northeast southwest axis, however, the rich substructure in the rest of the cluster suggests that the dynamical history is more complex than just a simple merger with a range of continuous dynamical interactions taking place. It is thus likely that turbulence in A3266 is very high, even for a merging cluster.

- Observations of six luminous blue compact galaxies (BCGs) and two star forming companion galaxies were carried out with the CIGALE scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer attached to the ESO 3.6m telescope on La Silla. The observations were made in the H-alpha emission line which is prominent in BCGs. A velocity sampling of 5km/s and a pixel size of 0.9arcseconds were used. In this paper we present the observations and the data together with the velocity fields and the derived rotation curves. In addition we provide rough estimates of the total dynamical mass and of the ionised gas mass for each galaxy. All galaxies display rotation, but while the companion galaxies have regular velocity fields, those of the BCGs are complex and appear perturbed. This is the most extensive study to date of the optical velocity fields of BCGs. The interpretation of these results will be presented in a forthcoming paper (Paper II).

- We present the first dynamical study of the globular cluster system of NGC 4636. It is the southernmost giant elliptical galaxy of the Virgo cluster and is claimed to be extremely dark matter dominated, according to X-ray observations. Globular clusters are used as dynamical tracers to investigate, by stellar dynamical means, the dark matter content of this galaxy. Several hundred medium resolution spectra were acquired at the VLT with FORS 2/MXU. We obtained velocities for 174 globular clusters in the radial range 0.90'<R<15.5', or 0.5-9R_e_ in units of effective radius. Assuming a distance of 15Mpc, the clusters are found at projected galactocentric distances in the range 4 to 70kpc, the overwhelming majority within 30kpc. The measured line-of-sight velocity dispersions are compared to Jeans-models.

- DYNAMO is a multiwavelength, spatially resolved survey of local (z~0.1) star-forming galaxies designed to study evolution through comparison with samples at z=~2. Half of the sample has integrated H{alpha luminosities of >10^42^erg/s, the typical lower limit for resolved spectroscopy at z=~2. The sample covers a range in stellar mass (10^9^-10^11^M_{sun_) and star formation rate (0.2-100M_{sun}_/yr). In this first paper of a series, we present integral-field spectroscopy of H{alpha emission for the sample of 67 galaxies. We infer gas fractions in our sample as high as =~0.8, higher than typical for local galaxies. Gas fraction correlates with stellar mass in galaxies with star formation rates below 10M_{sun}_/yr, as found by COLDGASS, but galaxies with higher star formation rates have higher than expected gas fractions. There is only a weak correlation, if any, between gas fraction and gas velocity dispersion. Galaxies in the sample visually classified as disc-like are offset from the local stellar mass Tully-Fisher relation to higher circular velocities, but this offset vanishes when both gas and stars are included in the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation. The mean gas velocity dispersion of the sample is =~50km/s, and V/{sigma} ranges from 2 to 10 for most of the discs, similar to 'turbulent' galaxies at high redshift. Half of our sample show disc-like rotation, while ~20 percent show no signs of rotation. The division between rotating and non-rotating is approximately equal for the sub-samples with either star formation rates >10M_{sun}_/yr, or specific star formation rates typical of the star formation 'main sequence' at z=~2. Across our whole sample, we find good correlation between the dominance of `turbulence' in galaxy discs (as expressed by V/{sigma}) and gas fraction as has been predicted for marginally stable Toomre discs. Comparing our sample with many others at low- and high-redshift reveals a correlation between gas velocity dispersion and star formation rate. These findings suggest the DYNAMO discs are excellent candidates for local galaxies similar to turbulent z=~2 disc galaxies.

- Based on our intensive spectroscopic campaign with the GoldCam spectrograph on the Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO) 2.1-m telescope, we have constructed the first catalogue of E+A galaxies with spectroscopic companion galaxies, and investigated a probability that an E+A galaxy has close companion galaxies. We selected 660 E+A galaxies with 4.0{AA}<H{delta} EW at a redshift of <0.167 from the Data Release 5 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We selected their companion candidates from the SDSS imaging data, and classified them into true companions, fore/background galaxies and companion candidates using the SDSS and our KPNO spectra. We observed 26 companion candidates of E+A galaxies at the KPNO to measure their redshifts. Their spectra showed that 17 targets are true companion galaxies.
