- We present a kinematic analysis of the globular cluster (GC) systems and diffuse stellar light of four intermediate luminosity (sub-L*) early-type galaxies in the Virgo cluster based on Gemini Multi-Object Spectrographs (GMOS) data. Our galaxy sample is fainter (-23.8<M_K_<-22.7) than most previous studies, nearly doubling the number of galaxies in this magnitude range that now have GC kinematics. The data for the diffuse light extends to 4R_e_, and the data for the GCs reaches 8-12R_e_. We find that the kinematics in these outer regions are all different despite the fact that these four galaxies have similar photometric properties, and are uniformly classified as "fast rotators" from their stellar kinematics within 1R_e_. The GC systems exhibit a wide range of kinematic morphology. The rotation axis and amplitude can change between the inner and outer regions, including a case of counter-rotation. This difference shows the importance of wide-field kinematic studies, and shows that stellar and GC kinematics can change significantly as one moves beyond the inner regions of galaxies. Moreover, the kinematics of the GC systems can differ from that of the stars, suggesting that the formation of the two populations are also distinct.

- A detailed study of the Galactic bulge stellar population necessarily requires an accurate representation of the interstellar extinction, particularly toward the Galactic plane and center, where severe and differential reddening is expected to vary on sub-arcmin scales. Although recent infrared surveys have addressed this problem by providing extinction maps across the whole Galactic bulge area, dereddened color-magnitude diagrams near the plane and center appear systematically undercorrected, prompting the need for higher resolution. These undercorrections affect any stellar study sensitive to color (e.g., star formation history analyses via color-magnitude diagram fitting), either making them inaccurate or limiting them to small and relatively stable extinction windows where this value is low and better constrained. This study is aimed at providing a high-resolution (2-arcmin to 10-arcsec) color excess map for the VVV bulge area in J-Ks color. We used the MW-BULGE-PSFPHOT catalogs, sampling 300deg^2^ across the Galactic bulge (|l|<10{deg} and -10{deg}<b<5{deg}) to isolate a sample of red clump and red giant branch stars, for which we calculated the average J-Ks color in a fine spatial grid in (l, b) space. We obtained an E(J-Ks) map spanning the VVV bulge area of roughly 300deg^2^, with the equivalent of a resolution between 1-arcmin for bulge outskirts (l<-6{deg}) to below 20-arcsec within the central |l|<1{deg}, and below 10-arcsec for the innermost area (|l|<1{deg} and |b|<3{deg}). - We present an analysis of wide-field photometric surveys of the Palomar 5 globular cluster and its stellar stream, based on g- and r-band measures together with narrow-band DDO 51 photometry. In this first study, we use the deep (g, r) data to measure the incidence of gaps and peaks along the stream. Examining the star-counts profile of the stream plus contaminating populations, we find no evidence for significant underdensities, and find only a single significant overdensity. This is at odds with earlier studies based on matched-filter maps derived from shallower SDSS data if the contaminating population possesses plausible spatial properties. The lack of substantial substructure along the stream may be used in future dynamical simulations to examine the incidence of dark matter sub-halos in the Galactic halo. - We present a method for finding clusters of young stars in M31 using broadband WFPC2 data from the HST data archive. Applying our identification method to 13 WFPC2 fields, covering an area of 60arcmin^2^, has revealed 79 new candidate young star clusters in these portions of the M31 disk. Most of these clusters are small (<~5pc), young (~10-200Myr) star groups located within large OB associations. We have estimated the reddening values and the ages of each candidate individually by fitting isochrones to the stellar photometry. We provide a catalog of the candidates including rough approximations of their reddenings and ages. We also look for patterns of cluster formation with galactocentric distance, but our rough estimates are not precise enough to reveal any clear patterns.
