- Ages and masses for 920 LMC clusters

- Description:
- We present new age and mass estimates for 920 stellar clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) based on previously published broadband photometry and the stellar cluster analysis package, MASSCLEANage. Expressed in the generic fitting formula, d^2^N/dMdt{prop.to}M^{alpha}^t^{beta}^, the distribution of observed clusters is described by {alpha}=-1.5 to -1.6 and {beta}=-2.1 to -2.2. For 288 of these clusters, ages have recently been determined based on stellar photometric color-magnitude diagrams, allowing us to gauge the confidence of our ages. The results look very promising, opening up the possibility that this sample of 920 clusters, with reliable and consistent age, mass, and photometric measures, might be used to constrain important characteristics about the stellar cluster population in the LMC. We also investigate a traditional age determination method that uses a {chi}^2^ minimization routine to fit observed cluster colors to standard infinite-mass limit simple stellar population models. This reveals serious defects in the derived cluster age distribution using this method. The traditional {chi}^2^ minimization method, due to the variation of U, B, V, R colors, will always produce an overdensity of younger and older clusters, with an underdensity of clusters in the log(age/yr)=[7.0,7.5] range. Finally, we present a unique simulation aimed at illustrating and constraining the fading limit in observed cluster distributions that includes the complex effects of stochastic variations in the observed properties of stellar clusters.

- Be stars in MC star clusters NIR properties

- Description:
- Magellanic Clouds are the nearby galaxies which are ideal to study the properties of metal poor stellar population. In this study, we explore the near-IR properties of optically identified classical Be stars in 19 star clusters in the Magellanic Clouds. From an optically identified sample of 835 Be stars we obtained the J, H, K magnitudes of 389 stars from the IRSF MCPS catalog. Among these, 247 stars (36.4%) are found in 9 clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud and 142 stars (55.5%) in 10 clusters in the Small Magellanic Cloud. After correcting for reddening, we studied their NIR properties in the (H-K)_0_ vs (J-H)_0_ diagram. We identified 14 stars with abnormally large near IR excesses, which were removed from the analysis, there by restricting our study to 355 classical Be stars. We propose an extended area in the near-IR (H-K)_0_ vs (J-H)_0_ diagram as the diagnostic location of Classical Be stars in the Magellanic Clouds. We identified 14 stars to have near-IR excess, higher than those seen in classical Be stars. From the analysis based on spectral energy distribution and luminosity estimate, we found that 8 candidate Be stars may be Herbig Ae/Be stars. We identified a new sample of 6 sgB[e] stars, which when added to the sparse existing sample of 15 sgB[e] stars in the Magellanic Clouds can provide insight to understand the evolutionary link between sgB[e] stars and Luminous Blue variables.

- BVI photometry of LMC Be stars
- Short Name:
- J/MNRAS/361/1055
- Date:

- Description:
- We present a catalogue with coordinates and photometric data of 2446 Be star candidates in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), based on a search of the OGLE II data base. The I-band light curves of these stars show outbursts in 24% of the sample (Type-1 stars), high and low states in 10%, periodic variations in 6% (Type-3 stars), and stochastic variations in 60% of the cases. We report on the result of the statistical study of light curves of Type-1 and Type-3 stars in the LMC, and the comparison with the previously reported results of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) sample.

- BVI photometry of OGLE LMC Cepheids
- Short Name:
- J/AcA/49/223
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present the Catalog of Cepheids from the LMC. The Catalog contains 1333 objects detected in the 4.5 square degree area of central parts of the LMC. About 3.4*10^5^ BVI measurements of these stars were collected during the OGLE-II microlensing survey. The Catalog data include period, BVI photometry, astrometry, and R_21_, phi_21_ parameters of the Fourier decomposition of I-band light curve. The vast majority of objects from the Catalog are the classical Cepheids pulsating in the fundamental or first overtone mode. The remaining objects include Population II Cepheids and red giants with pulsation-like light curves. Tests of completeness performed in overlapping parts of adjacent fields indicate that completeness of the Catalog is very high: >96%. Statistics and distributions of basic parameters of Cepheids are also presented. Finally, we show the light curves of three eclipsing systems containing Cepheid detected among objects of the Catalog. All presented data, including individual BVI observations are available from the OGLE Internet archive at URL: ftp://sirius.astrouw.edu.pl/ogle/ogle2/var_stars/lmc/cep/catalog/

- BV photometry in and around 5 globular clusters
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/147/155
- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- Homogeneous B, V photometry is presented for 19324 stars in and around 5 Magellanic Cloud globular clusters: NGC 1466, NGC 1841, NGC 2210, NGC 2257, and Reticulum. The photometry is derived from eight nights of CCD imaging with the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory 0.9m SMARTS telescope. Instrumental magnitudes were transformed to the Johnson B, V system using accurate calibration relations based on a large sample of Landolt-Stetson equatorial standard stars, which were observed on the same nights as the cluster stars. Residual analysis of the equatorial standards used for the calibration, and validation of the new photometry using Stetson's sample of secondary standards in the vicinities of the five Large Magellanic Cloud clusters, shows excellent agreement with our values in both magnitudes and colors. Color-magnitude diagrams reaching to the main-sequence turnoffs at V~22mag, sigma-magnitude diagrams, and various other summaries are presented for each cluster to illustrate the range and quality of the new photometry. The photometry should prove useful for future studies of the Magellanic Cloud globular clusters, particularly studies of their variable stars.

- Description:
- We present our analysis of archival Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) observations in F450W (~B) and F555W (~V) of the intermediate-age populous star clusters NGC 121, NGC 339, NGC 361, NGC 416, and Kron 3 in the Small Magellanic Cloud. We use published photometry of two other SMC populous star clusters, Lindsay 1 and Lindsay 113, to investigate the age sequence of these seven star clusters in order to improve our understanding of the formation chronology of the SMC. We analyzed the V versus B-V and M_V_ versus (B-V)_0_ color-magnitude diagrams of these populous Small Magellanic Cloud star clusters using a variety of techniques and determined their ages, metallicities, and reddenings. These new data enable us to improve the age-metallicity relation of star clusters in the Small Magellanic Cloud. In particular, we find that a closed-box continuous star formation model does not reproduce the age-metallicity relation adequately. However, a theoretical model punctuated by bursts of star formation is in better agreement with the observational data presented herein.

- BV photometry in supergiant shell LMC4
- Short Name:
- J/A+A/328/167
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The youngest stellar populations of a 'J'-shaped region inside the supergiant shell (SGS) LMC4 have been analysed with CCD photometry in B, V passbands. This region consists of 2 coherent strips, one from the east to the west reaching about 400pc across the OB superassociation LH 77 and another extending about 850pc from south to north. The standard photometric methods yield for each of the 25 CCD fields a colour-magnitude diagram (CMD) which is used for age determination of the youngest star population by isochrone fitting. The resultant ages lie in the range from 9Myr to 16Myr without correlation with the distance to the LMC 4 centre. We therefore conclude that there must have been one triggering event for star formation inside this large LMC SGS with a diameter of 1.4kpc.

- BV photometry of LW 55 in LMC
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/126/237
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The field of the moderately old open cluster LW 55 in the outer parts of the Large Magellanic Cloud disk was monitored for detection of short-period variable stars over two nights. Eight variables were found; all but one (a detached eclipsing binary) are small-amplitude ({Delta}V<=0.1mag) pulsating stars of the {delta} Scuti, SX Phoenicis, or Doradus type. The BV color-magnitude diagram extends down to the solar-type stars at V=24 (M_V_~5.2). The cluster age is estimated at 1.5Gyr for Z=0.004 ([Fe/H]=-0.67); the surrounding stellar field is older, with an age greater than 4Gyr.

- BV photometry of NGC 1866

- Description:
- We present a new deep (down to V~24) photometry of a wide region (~6'x6') around the Large Magellanic Cloud globular cluster NGC 1866. Our sample is much larger (by more than a factor of 3) than any previous photometry and with a main sequence (MS) that may be considered complete, down to at least 3 mag below the brightest MS star; such an occurrence allows a meaningful and robust comparison with various theoretical scenarios produced by means of models computed with the evolutionary code FRANEC.
