- We present the earliest ultraviolet (UV) observations of the bright Type Ia supernova SN 2011fe/PTF11kly in the nearby galaxy M101 at a distance of only 6.4 Mpc. It was discovered shortly after explosion by the Palomar Transient Factory and first observed by Swift/UVOT about a day after explosion. The early UV light is well defined, with ~20 data points per filter in the five days after explosion. These early and well-sampled UV observations form new template light curves for comparison with observations of other SNe Ia at low and high redshift. We report fits from semiempirical models of the explosion and find the time evolution of the early UV flux to be well fitted by the superposition of two parabolic curves. Finally, we use the early UV flux measurements to examine a possible shock interaction with a non-degenerate companion. From models predicting the measurable shock emission, we find that even a solar mass companion at a distance of a few solar radii is unlikely at more than 95% confidence.

- Simultaneous photometric (uvbyBeta) and spectrographic observations of SX Phe are described. Analysis of the light and velocity frequency spectra are performed. It is shown that all frequencies detected are harmonics or combinations of the fundamental and first harmonic frequencies. Intrinsic (b-y) and c1 values used in conjunction with a model-atmosphere grid appropriate for a star with [M/H]=-1.0 yields <Teff>=7360K and <logg>=3.90. Standard evolutionary models indicate the mass is 1.13 M_{sun}_ and <Mv> value is +2.9. The radial-velocity data indicate a mean radial velocity of -37km/s and a total range of 38km/s.

- A new grid of theoretical color indices for the Stroemgren uvby photometric system has been derived from MARCS model atmospheres and SSG synthetic spectra for cool dwarf and giant stars having -3.0<=[Fe/H]<=+0.5 and 3000<=T_eff_<=8000K. In the present investigation, we have also analyzed the observed Stroemgren photometry for the classic Population II subdwarfs, compared our "final" (b-y)-Teff relationship with those derived empirically in a number of recent studies and examined in some detail the dependence of the m1 index on [Fe/H].

- We present the first Swift Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglow catalog. The catalog contains data from over 64000 independent UVOT image observations of 229 GRBs first detected by Swift, the High Energy Transient Explorer 2 (HETE2), the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL), and the Interplanetary Network (IPN). The catalog covers GRBs occurring during the period from 2005 January 17 to 2007 June 16 and includes ~86% of the bursts detected by the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT). The catalog provides detailed burst positional, temporal, and photometric information extracted from each of the UVOT images. Positions for bursts detected at the 3{sigma} level are provided with a nominal accuracy, relative to the USNO-B1 catalog, of ~0.25". Photometry for each burst is given in three UV bands, three optical bands, and a "white" or open filter. Upper limits for magnitudes are reported for sources detected below 3{sigma}. General properties of the burst sample and light curves, including the filter-dependent temporal slopes, are also provided.

- We report extensive photometric and spectroscopic observations of the 6.1 day period, G+M-type detached double-lined eclipsing binary V530 Ori, an important new benchmark system for testing stellar evolution models for low-mass stars. We determine accurate masses and radii for the components with errors of 0.7% and 1.3%, as follows: M_A_=1.0038+/-0.0066 M_{sun}_, M_B_=0.5955+/-0.0022 M_{sun}_, R_A_=0.980+/-0.013 R_{sun}_, and R_B_=0.5873+/-0.0067 R_{sun}_. The effective temperatures are 5890+/-100 K (G1 V) and 3880+/-120 K (M1 V), respectively. A detailed chemical analysis probing more than 20 elements in the primary spectrum shows the system to have a slightly subsolar abundance, with [Fe/H]=-0.12+/-0.08. A comparison with theory reveals that standard models underpredict the radius and overpredict the temperature of the secondary, as has been found previously for other M dwarfs. On the other hand, models from the Dartmouth series incorporating magnetic fields are able to match the observations of the secondary star at the same age as the primary (~3 Gyr) with a surface field strength of 2.1+/-0.4 kG when using a rotational dynamo prescription, or 1.3+/-0.4 kG with a turbulent dynamo approach, not far from our empirical estimate for this star of 0.83+/-0.65 kG. The observations are most consistent with magnetic fields playing only a small role in changing the global properties of the primary. The V530 Ori system thus provides an important demonstration that recent advances in modeling appear to be on the right track to explain the long-standing problem of radius inflation and temperature suppression in low-mass stars.

- Differential Stroemgren uvby photometric observations from the Four College Automated Photoelectric Telescope are used to examine the possible variability of the spectrophotometric standards {theta} Vir and 109 Vir. No evidence is found for variability within a season of observation. Small year to year differences are most likely due to unaccounted for extinction changes.

- NGC 7067 is a young open cluster located in the direction between the first and the second Galactic quadrants and close to the Perseus spiral arm. This makes it useful for studies of the nature of the Milky Way spiral arms. Stromgren photometry taken with the Wide Field Camera at the Isaac Newton Telescope allowed us to compute individual physical parameters for the observed stars and hence to derive the cluster's physical parameters. Spectra from the 1.93-m telescope at the Observatoire de Haute-Provence helped to check and improve the results. We obtained photometry for 1233 stars, individual physical parameters for 515 and spectra for 9 of them. The 139 selected cluster members lead to a cluster distance of 4.4+/-0.4kpc, with an age below log10(t(yr))=7.3 and a present mass of 1260+/-160M_{sun}_. The morphology of the data reveals that the centre of the cluster is at (RA, DE) = (21:24:13.69, +48:00:39.2) J2000, with a radius of 6.1-arcmin. Stromgren and spectroscopic data allowed us to improve the previous parameters available for the cluster in the literature.

- The Catalogue of Individual UBV and uvby-beta Observations of Stars in the Region of the Orion OB 1 Association presents individual UBV observations of 106 stars in the vicinity of the Orion Nebula (the Sword region) and individual uvby-beta observations of 508 stars in all regions of the Orion OB 1 association. For the UBV data the stars are identified by their Brun (1935) numbers, with cross identifications to the chart numbers used in Warren and Hesser (1977); the uvby-beta stars are identified by the aforementioned chart numbers and HD, BD or P (Parenago 1954) numbers in that order of preference. The catalogue contains the data of all observations and is intended to provide data for investigations of variability in the Orion region. - (Excerpt from the "intro.txt" file) Between 1959 and 1971, the Hamburg and Warner and Swasey Observatories published a seven-volume survey listing intrinsically luminous stars (hereafter "LS" objects) - mostly OB stars, as well as a number of A, F, and G supergiants and Wolf-Rayet stars - within about ten degrees of the plane of the Milky Way to a limiting photographic magnitude of approximately 13.5. Based on objective-prism surveys of dispersion 580 Angstrom per millimeter at Hydrogen-gamma, these catalogs have served as starting points for numerous investigations of galactic structure and the characteristics of massive stars. Much fundamental data on the LS stars now exists distributed throughout the astronomical literature. This work describes a compilation of published photoelectric UBV-Beta photometry and spectral classifications nominally on the MK system for the LS stars, as well as an extensive cross-identification table linking LS numbers and other commonly-used identifiers such as HD, BD, CD, CPD and HR numbers. At this writing, the UBV-Beta portion of the database covers both the Northern and Southern LS stars, whereas MK classifications have as yet only been fully compiled for the Southern stars; compilation of MK types for the Northern LS stars is as yet incomplete, but ongoing.
