- The metal-poor post-asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star HD 46703 is shown to be a single-line spectroscopic binary with a period of 600-days, a high velocity of -94km/s, and an orbital eccentricity of 0.3. Light-curve studies show that it also pulsates with a period of 29-days. High-resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra were used for a new abundance study.

- The H{gamma} and H{delta} absorption features are measured in a sample of 455 (out of an original 460) Lick IDS stars with pseudo-equivalent width indices. For each Balmer feature, two definitions, involving a narrow (~20{AA}) and a wide (~40{AA}) central bandpass, were measured. These four new Balmer indices augment 21 indices previously determined by Worthey et al., and polynomial fitting functions that give index strengths as a function of stellar temperature, gravity, and [Fe/H] are provided. The new indices are folded into models for the integrated light of stellar populations, and predictions are given for single-burst stellar populations of a variety of ages and metallicities. Contrary to our initial hopes, the indices cannot break a degeneracy between burst age and burst strength in poststarbust objects, but they are successful mean-age indicators when used with sensitive metallicity indicators. An appendix gives data, advice, and examples of how to transform new spectra to the 25-index Lick IDS system.

- Line intensities, visual extinction, abundances and ionization hardness parameter for HII regions in two spiral galaxies are presented. The following galaxies have been observed: NGC 5457 and NGC 4395. In NGC 5457 have been obtained data for 338 regions. In NGC 4395 have been obtained data for 158 regions. For each region position, visual extinction, H-alpha flux, H-alpha equivalent width, H-beta flux, H-beta equivalent width, [OII] flux, [OIII] flux, [SII] flux, [SIII] flux (only for NGC 5457), R23 parameter, oxygen abundance and ionization hardness parameter (only for NGC 5457) are given.

- We selected 4593 hot subdwarf candidates from the Gaia DR2 Hertzsprung-Russell (HR) diagram. By combining the sample with Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) DR5, we identified 294 hot subdwarf stars, including 169 sdB, 63 sdOB, 31 He-sdOB, 22 sdO, 7 He-sdO, and 2 He-sdB stars. The atmospheric parameters (e.g., Teff, logg, log(nHe/nH)) are obtained by fitting the hydrogen (H) and helium (He) line profiles with synthetic spectra. Two distinct He sequences of hot subdwarf stars are clearly presented in the Teff-logg diagram. We found that the He-rich sequence consists of the bulk of sdB and sdOB stars, as well as all of the He-sdB, He-sdO, and He-sdOB stars in our samples, while all the stars in the He-weak sequence belong to the sdO spectral type, combined with a few sdB and sdOB stars. We demonstrated that the combination of Gaia DR2 and LAMOST DR5 allows one to uncover a huge number of new hot subdwarf stars in our Galaxy.

- The ionizing fluxes from quasars and other active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are critical for interpreting their emission-line spectra and for photoionizing and heating the intergalactic medium. Using far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectra from the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), we directly measure the rest-frame ionizing continua and emission lines for 159 AGNs at redshifts 0.001<z_AGN_<1.476 and construct a composite spectrum from 475 to 1875 {AA}. We identify the underlying AGN continuum and strong extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission lines from ions of oxygen, neon, and nitrogen after masking out absorption lines from the H I Ly{alpha} forest, 7 Lyman-limit systems (N_HI_>=10^17.2^/cm2) and 214 partial Lyman-limit systems (14.5<logN_HI_<17.2). The 159 AGNs exhibit a wide range of FUV/EUV spectral shapes, F_v_{propto}{nu}^{alpha}_{nu}_^, typically with -2<={alpha}_{nu}_<=0 and no discernible continuum edges at 912 {AA} (H I) or 504 {AA} (He I). The composite rest-frame continuum shows a gradual break at {lambda}_br_{approx} 1000 {AA}, with mean spectral index {alpha}_{nu}_=-0.83+/-0.09 in the FUV (1200-2000 {AA}) steepening to {alpha}_{nu}_=-1.41+/-0.15 in the EUV (500-1000 {AA}). We discuss the implications of the UV flux turnovers and lack of continuum edges for the structure of accretion disks, AGN mass inflow rates, and luminosities relative to Eddington values.

- Photoelectric determinations of H-{gamma} absorption line intensity have been made of stars in selected clusters and associations as well as in the general galactic field. Interference filters having a width at half intensity of 45{AA} were used to isolate spectral regions centered on 4280{AA}, H-{gamma} and 4410{AA}. The {Gamma} indices derived, which represent a measure of H-{gamma} absorption, can be used in conjunction with unreddened values of either (U-B) or (B-V) for spectral and luminosity class determinations of stars in the spectral range O6 to A0.

- We present new calculations of unified line profiles for hydrogen perturbed by collisions with protons. We report on new calculations of the potential energies and dipole moments which allow the evaluation of profiles for the lines of the Lyman series up to Lyman {delta} and the Balmer series up to Balmer 10. Unified calculations only existed for the lines Lyman {alpha} to Lyman {gamma} and Balmer {alpha} including the H_2_^+^ quasi-molecule. These data are available as online material accompanying this paper and should be included in atmosphere models, in place of the Stark effect of protons, since the quasi-molecular contributions cause not only satellites, but large asymmetries that are unaccounted for in models that assume that Stark broadening of electrons and that of protons are equal.

- We present a 2D study of star formation at kpc and sub-kpc scales of a sample of local (z<0.1) U/LIRGs, based on near-IR VLT-SINFONI observations. We obtained integrated measurements of the star formation rate (SFR) and star formation rate surface density, together with their 2D distributions, based on Br_gamma and Pa_alpha emission. We observe a tight linear correlation between the SFR derived from our extinction-corrected measurements and that derived from 24 micron data, and a reasonable agreement with SFR derived from total IR luminosity. Our near-IR measurements are on average a factor 3 larger than optical SFR, even when extinction corrections are applied. We found that LIRGs have a median-observed star formation rate surface density of 1.72M_{sun}_/yr/kpc^2^ for the extinction-corrected distribution, whilst ULIRGs have 0.23M_{sun}_/yr/kpc^2, respectively. These median values for ULIRGs increase up to 2.90M_{sun}_/yr/kpc^2^, when only their inner regions, covering the same size as the average FoV of LIRGs, are considered. We identified a total of 95 individual SF clumps in our sample, with sizes within 60-1500pc, and extinction-corrected Pa_alpha luminosities of 10^5^-10^8^L_{sun}_. Star-forming clumps in LIRGs are about ten times larger and thousands of times more luminous than typical clumps in spiral galaxies. Clumps in ULIRGs have sizes similar (x0.5-1) to those of high-z clumps, having Pa_alpha luminosities similar to some high-z clumps, and about 10 times less luminous than the most luminous high-z clumps identified so far. We also observed a change in the slope of the L-r relation. A likely explanation is that most luminous galaxies are interacting and merging, and therefore their size represents a combination of the distribution of the star-forming clumps within each galaxy in the system plus the effect of the projected distance.

- This paper presents an investigation of an old age open cluster King11 using Gaia's Early Data Release 3 data. Considering the stars with membership probability (P{mu})>90%, we identified 676 most probable cluster members within the cluster's limiting radius. The mean proper motion for King11 is determined as: {mu}x=-3.391{+/-}0.006 and {mu}y=-0.660{+/-}0.004mas/yr. The blue straggler stars of King11 show a centrally concentrated radial distribution. The values of limiting radius, age, and distance are determined as 18.51, 3.63{+/-}0.42Gyr, and 3.33{+/-}0.15kpc, respectively. The cluster's apex coordinates (A=267.84{+/-}1.01, D=-27.48{+/-}1.03) are determined using the apex diagram method and verified using the ({mu}U, {mu}T) diagram. We also obtained the orbit that the cluster follows in the Galaxy and estimated its tentative birthplace in the disk. The resulting spatial velocity of King 11 is 60.2{+/-}2.16km/s. A significant oscillation along the Z coordinate up to 0.556{+/-}0.022kpc is determined.

- A narrow-band spectrometer, compensated for seeing and transparency variations, has been constructed and used to measure the strength of the calcium K-line (3933.68{AA}) in 146 A-type stars. The observations were made in the spring of 1966 with the No.4 16-inch (40cm) telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory.
