- We report the serendipitous discovery of several young mid-M stars found during a search for new members of the 30-40Myr-old Octans Association. Only one of the stars may be considered a possible Octans(-Near) member. However, two stars have proper motions, kinematic distances, radial velocities, photometry and LII {lambda}6708 measurements consistent with membership in the 8-10Myr-old TW Hydrae Association. Another may be an outlying member of TW Hydrae but has a velocity similar to that predicted by membership in Octans. We also identify two new lithium-rich members of the neighbouring Scorpius-Centaurus OB Association (Sco-Cen). Both exhibit large 12 and 22{mu}m excesses and strong, variable H{alpha} emission which we attribute to accretion from circumstellar discs. Such stars are thought to be incredibly rare at the ~16Myr median age of Sco-Cen and they join only one other confirmed M-type and three higher mass accretors outside of Upper Scorpius. The serendipitous discovery of two accreting stars hosting large quantities of circumstellar material may be indicative of a sizeable age spread in Sco-Cen, or further evidence that disc dispersal and planet formation time-scales are longer around lower mass stars. To aid future studies of Sco-Cen, we also provide a newly compiled catalogue of 305 early-type Hipparcos members with spectroscopic radial velocities sourced from the literature.

- We report our spectroscopic monitoring of the detached, grazing, and slightly eccentric 12 day double-lined eclipsing binary EPIC 219568666 in the old nearby open cluster Ruprecht 147. This is the second eclipsing system to be analyzed in this cluster, following our earlier study of EPIC 219394517. Our analysis of the radial velocities combined with the light curve from the K2 mission yields absolute masses and radii for EPIC 219568666 of M_1_=1.121+/-0.013M_{sun}_ and R_1_=1.1779+/-0.0070R_{sun}_ for the F8 primary and M_2_=0.7334+/-0.0050M_{sun}_ and R_2_=0.640+/-0.017R_{sun}_ for the faint secondary. Comparison with current stellar evolution models calculated for the known metallicity of the cluster points to a primary star that is oversized, as is often seen in active M dwarfs, but this seems rather unlikely for a star of its mass and with a low level of activity. Instead, we suspect a subtle bias in the radius ratio inferred from the photometry, despite our best efforts to avoid it, which may be related to the presence of spots on one or both stars. The radius sum for the binary, which bypasses this possible problem, indicates an age of 2.76+/-0.61Gyr, which is in good agreement with a similar estimate from the binary in our earlier study.

- We have carried out a big FLAMES survey of 10 Galactic open clusters aiming at different goals. One of them is the determination of chemical abundances, in order to put constraints on the radial metallicity gradient in the disk and its evolution. One of the sample clusters is the very metal rich NGC 6253. We have obtained UVES high resolution spectra of seven candidate clusters members (from the turn off up to the red clump) with the goal of determining the chemical composition of NGC 6253 and to investigate its origin and role in the interpretation of the radial metallicity gradient in the disk.

- The Extended Hipparcos Compilation (XHIP) cross-references the New Hipparcos Reduction (HIP2, Cat. I/311) with relatable data from a broad survey of presently available sources. The resulting collection uniquely assigns 116,096 spectral classifications, 46,392 radial velocities, and 19,097 iron abundances [Fe/H] to Hipparcos stars. Stellar classifications from SIMBAD and indications of multiplicity from either CCDM (Cat. I/274) or WDS (Cat. B/wds) are provided. Parameters for solar encounters and Galactic orbits are calculated for a subset of stars that can be made kinematically complete. Memberships in open clusters and stellar associations are assigned. We also provide stellar ages from The Geneva-Copenhagen survey of the Solar neighbourhood III (Cat. V/130), identifications of exoplanet host stars, and supplemental photometry from 2MASS (Cat. II/246) and SIMBAD.

- We extend our previous calibration of the infrared CaII triplet (CaT) as a metallicity indicator to the metal-poor regime by including observations of 55 field stars with [Fe/H] down to -4.0dex. While we previously solved the saturation at high metallicity using a combination of a Lorentzian and a Gaussian to reproduce the line profiles, in this paper we address the non-linearity at low metallicity following the suggestion of Starkenburg et al. of adding two non-linear terms to the relation among the [Fe/H], luminosity and strength of the calcium triplet lines. Our calibration thus extends from -4.0 to +0.5 in metallicity and is presented using four different luminosity indicators: V-V_HB_, M_V_, M_I_ and M_K_. The calibration obtained in this paper results in a tight correlation between [Fe/H] abundances measured from high-resolution spectra and [Fe/H] values derived from the CaT, over the whole metallicity range covered.

- Intermediate resolution spectroscopy from the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope is analysed for 63 photometrically selected low-mass (0.08-0.30M_{sun}_) candidates of the open cluster NGC 2547. We have confirmed membership for most of these stars using radial velocities, and found that lithium remains undepleted for cluster stars with I>17.54+/-0.14 and Ks>14.86+/-0.12. From these results, several pre-main-sequence evolutionary models give almost model independent ages of 34-36Myr, with a precision of 10%. These ages are only slightly larger than the ages of 25-35(+/-5)Myr obtained using the same models to fit isochrones to higher mass stars descending towards the zero-age main-sequence, both in empirically calibrated and theoretical colour-magnitude diagrams. This agreement between age determinations in different mass ranges is an excellent test of the current generation of low-mass pre-main-sequence stellar models and lends confidence to ages determined with either method between 30 and 120Myr.

- We report radial velocities (RVs), projected equatorial velocities (vsini) and CaII triplet (CaT) chromospheric activity indices for 237 late-K to mid-M candidate members of the young open cluster NGC 2516. These stars have published rotation periods between 0.1 and 15d. Intermediate-resolution spectra were obtained using the Giraffe spectrograph at the Very Large Telescope. Membership was confirmed on the basis of their RVs for 210 targets.

- The outer parts of the Milky Way disk are believed to be one of the main arenas where the accretion of external material in the form of dwarf galaxies and subsequent formation of streams is taking place. The Monoceros stream and the Canis Major and Argo over-densities are notorious examples. Understanding whether what we detect is the signature of accretion or, more conservatively, simply the intrinsic nature of the disk, represents one of the major goals of modern Galactic astronomy. We try to shed more light on the properties of the outer disk by exploring the properties of distant anti-center old open clusters. We want to verify whether distant clusters follow the chemical and dynamical behavior of the solar vicinity disk, or whether their properties can be better explained in terms of an extra-galactic population.

- We present the stellar population, using Gaia DR2 parallax, kinematics, and photometry, of the young (~100Myr), nearby (~230pc) open cluster, Blanco 1. A total of 644 member candidates are identified via the unsupervised machine learning method StarGO to find the clustering in the 5-dimensional position and proper motion parameter (X, Y, Z, {mu}{alpha}*cos{delta}, {mu}{delta}) space. Within the tidal radius of 10.0+/-0.3pc, there are 488 member candidates, 3 times more than those outside. A leading tail and a trailing tail, each of 50-60pc in the Galactic plane, are found for the first time for this cluster, with stars further from the cluster center streaming away faster, manifest stellar stripping. Blanco 1 has a total detected mass of 285+/-32M_{sun}_ with a mass function consistent with a slope of alpha=1.35+/-0.2 in the sense of dN/dm{prop.to}m^-alpha^, in the mass range of 0.25-2.51M_{sun}_, where N is the number of members and $m$ is stellar mass. A Minimum Spanning Tree ({LAMBDA}_MSR_) analysis shows the cluster to be moderately mass segregated among the most massive members (>~1.4M_{sun}_), suggesting an early stage of dynamical disintegration.
