- We compare multi-epoch sub-arcsecond Very Large Array imaging of the 22GHz water masers toward the massive protocluster NGC 6334I observed before and after the recent outburst of MM1B in (sub)millimeter continuum. Since the outburst, the water maser emission toward MM1 has substantially weakened. Simultaneously, the strong water masers associated with the synchrotron continuum point source CM2 have flared by a mean factor of 6.5 (to 4.2kJy) with highly blueshifted features (up to 70km/s from the LSR) becoming more prominent. The strongest flaring water masers reside 3000au north of MM1B and form a remarkable bow shock pattern whose vertex coincides with CM2 and tail points back to MM1B. Excited OH masers trace a secondary bow shock located ~120au downstream. Atacama Large Millimeter Array images of CS (6-5) reveal a highly collimated north-south structure encompassing the flaring masers to the north and the nonflaring masers to the south seen in projection toward the MM3-UCHII region. Proper motions of the southern water masers over 5.3 years indicate a bulk projected motion of 117km/s southward from MM1B with a dynamical time of 170 years. We conclude that CM2, the water masers, and many of the excited OH masers trace the interaction of the high-velocity bipolar outflow from MM1B with ambient molecular gas. The previously excavated outflow cavity has apparently allowed the radiative energy of the current outburst to propagate freely until terminating at the northern bow shock where it strengthened the masers. Additionally, water masers have been detected toward MM7 for the first time, and a highly collimated CS (6-5) outflow has been detected toward MM4.

- Maps of 212 extragalactic radio sources at 4.9 GHz are shown in Stokes I along with linear polarization vectors. The objects have a declination range of 0 degrees to -35 degrees and were chosen from the Hewitt & Burbidge quasar catalog with a spectral index less than -0.5 and the NVSS survey with a minimum 1.4 GHz flux density greater than 300 mJy. The observations were made with the Very Large Array in its B configuration, and the images have a typical resolution of 2 arcseconds. One hundred ninety-five objects were resolved; 108 of the sources are quasars, and another 51 have been identified as galaxies.

- This paper presents the results of a high resolution radio imaging survey of 83 of the 118 ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) in the IRAS 1Jy ULIRG sample (Kim & Sanders, 1998ApJS..119...41K, Veilleux et al., 2002, Cat. <J/ApJS/143/315>). We have observed these ULIRGs at 15-GHz with the Very Large Array (VLA). We find that ~75% of Seyferts (both type 1 and 2) and LINERs have radio nuclei which are compact at our 150mas resolution. The detection rate of HII nuclei is significantly lower (32%); the detections among these are preferentially HII+LINER/Seyfert composite nuclei. Among ULIRGs with multiple optical or near-IR nuclei our observations detected only one (or no) nucleus; in these the radio detection is typically towards the brightest near-IR nucleus. The compactness of the radio sources, the higher detection rates in AGN-type nuclei than HII nuclei, the preferential detection of nuclei with unresolved point sources in the near-IR, the low soft X-ray to nuclear radio luminosity ratio (arguing against thermal emission powering the radio nuclei), and the lack of correlation between radio power and H{alpha} luminosity, all support an origin of the detected radio nuclei in AGN related activity. This result is especially interesting for LINER ULIRGs for which signatures of AGNs have often been ambiguous in other wavebands. Such a high incidence of AGN would provide, for the first time, a large sample in which to study the interplay between AGN, starbursts, and galaxy mergers.

- We present new subarcsecond-resolution Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) imaging at 10GHz of 155 ultraluminous (Lbol~10^11.7^-10^14.2^L_{sun}_) and heavily obscured quasars with redshifts z~0.4-3. The sample was selected to have extremely red mid-infrared-optical color ratios based on data from the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) along with a detection of bright, unresolved radio emission from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) or Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty cm Survey. Our high-resolution VLA observations have revealed that the majority of the sources in our sample (93 out of 155) are compact on angular scales <0.2 (<=1.7kpc at z~2). The radio luminosities, linear extents, and lobe pressures of our sources are similar to young radio active galactic nuclei (e.g., gigahertz-peaked spectrum [GPS] and compact steep-spectrum [CSS] sources), but their space density is considerably lower. Application of a simple adiabatic lobe expansion model suggests relatively young dynamical ages (~10^4-7yr^), relatively high ambient ISM densities (~1-10^4^cm^-3^), and modest lobe expansion speeds (~30-10000km/s). Thus, we find our sources to be consistent with a population of newly triggered, young jets caught in a unique evolutionary stage in which they still reside within the dense gas reservoirs of their hosts. Based on their radio luminosity function and dynamical ages, we estimate that only ~20% of classical large-scale FR I/II radio galaxies could have evolved directly from these objects. We speculate that the WISE-NVSS sources might first become GPS or CSS sources, of which some might ultimately evolve into larger radio galaxies.

- We present a 324.5MHz image of the NOAO Bootes field that was made using Very Large Array (VLA) P-band observations. The image has a resolution of 5.6"x5.1", a radius of 2.05 degrees and a central noise of ~0.2mJy/beam. Both the resolution and noise of the image are an order of magnitude better than what was previously available at this frequency and will serve as a valuable addition to the already extensive multiwavelength data that are available for this field. The final source catalogue contains 1370 sources and has a median 325 to 1400MHz spectral index of -0.72. Using a radio colour-colour diagram of the unresolved sources in our catalogue, we identify 33 megahertz peaked-spectrum (MPS) sources. Based on the turnover frequency linear size relation for the gigahertz peaked-spectrum (GPS) and compact steep-spectrum (CSS) sources, we expect that the MPS sources that are compact on scales of tens of milliarcseconds should be young radio loud active galactic nuclei at high (z>2) redshifts. Of the 33 MPS sources, we were able to determine redshifts for 24, with an average redshift of 1.3. Given that five of the sources are at z>2, that the four faint sources for which we could not find redshifts are likely at even higher redshifts and that we could only select sources that are compact on a scale of ~5", there is encouraging evidence that the MPS method can be used to search for high-redshift sources.

- We have conducted a search for ionized gas at 3.6cm, using the Very Large Array, toward 31 Galactic intermediate- and high-mass clumps detected in previous millimeter continuum observations. In the 10 observed fields, 35 HII regions are identified, of which 20 are newly discovered. Many of the HII regions are multiply peaked indicating the presence of a cluster of massive stars. We find that the ionized gas tends to be associated toward the millimeter clumps; of the 31 millimeter clumps observed, nine of these appear to be physically related to ionized gas, and a further six have ionized gas emission within 1'. For clumps with associated ionized gas, the combined mass of the ionizing massive stars is compared to the clump masses to provide an estimate of the instantaneous star formation efficiency. These values range from a few percent to 25%, and have an average of 7%+/-8%. We also find a correlation between the clump mass and the mass of the ionizing massive stars within it, which is consistent with a power law. This result is comparable to the prediction of star formation by competitive accretion that a power-law relationship exists between the mass of the most massive star in a cluster and the total mass of the remaining stars.

- We present new observations of the C-band continuum emission and masers to assess high-mass (>8M_{sun}_) star formation at early evolutionary phases in the inner 200pc of the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) of the Galaxy. The continuum observation is complete to free-free emission from stars above 10-11M_{sun}_ in 91% of the covered area. We identify 104 compact sources in the continuum emission, among which five are confirmed ultracompact HII regions, 12 are candidates of ultracompact HII regions, and the remaining 87 sources are mostly massive stars in clusters, field stars, evolved stars, pulsars, extragalactic sources, or of unknown nature that is to be investigated. We detect class II CH_3_OH masers at 23 positions, among which six are new detections. We confirm six known H_2_CO masers in two high-mass star-forming regions and detect two new H_2_CO masers toward the Sgr C cloud, making it the ninth region in the Galaxy that contains masers of this type. In spite of these detections, we find that current high-mass star formation in the inner CMZ is only taking place in seven isolated clouds. The results suggest that star formation at early evolutionary phases in the CMZ is about 10 times less efficient than expected from the dense gas star formation relation, which is in line with previous studies that focus on more evolved phases of star formation. This means that if there will be any impending, next burst of star formation in the CMZ, it has not yet begun.

- We present new results based on high-resolution observations of Sgr A West at the Galactic center with the Very Large Array (VLA) at 1.3cm. By combining recent observations with those made at earlier epochs with the VLA at wavelengths of 1.3 and 3.6cm, we measured proper motions for 71 compact HII components in the central 80" (3pc, assuming D=8pc). Using VLA archival data for the H92{alpha} radio recombination line, we also investigated radial velocities in the LSR velocity range from +200 to -415km/s. Combining proper motion and radial velocity measurements, we have determined the three-dimensional velocity distribution in Sgr A West.

- We have used the Very Large Array (VLA) to search for radio continuum emission towards a sample of 67 IRAS sources selected from a previous study. All observed sources are associated with high density molecular gas, exhibit an infrared spectral energy distribution characteristic of very cold young stellar objects and many of them are associated with H_2_O masers. The observed sample is divided into two groups of sources: High, with IRAS spectral energy distributions resembling those of ultracompact HII regions, and Low, for which previously collected evidence suggests that they may contain a higher fraction of protostellar objects than the High group; such objects might not have started hydrogen burning yet. Radio continuum emission was detected towards 37 sources (55%), although only in 22 cases an association with the IRAS source is established. Of the latter, 9 (24%) objects belong to the Low type and 13 (43%) to the High type. Thus, we find that 76% of Low and 57% of High sources are not associated with a radio counterpart. Because the majority of the sources have luminosities above ~10^4^L_{sun}_, corresponding to central stars of spectral type between B2 and O7, the lack of radio emission is interpreted as being due to the action of accreting matter that chokes off the expansion of the ionised gas. We show that this require s only moderate mass accretion rates, below ~10^-4^M_{sun}_/yr. Alternatively, dust absorption can also effectively absorb UV photons and the gas column density implied by our observations indicates values in excess of 10^22^cm^-2^. The physical properties of IRAS sources with associated radio counterpa rt derived from the present observations do not distinguish between High and Low sources. These sources are likely to be ZAMS stars with variable amounts of dust within the ionised region which acts as UV field absorber. The large majority of detected sources (75%) have spherical or unresolved morphology, while 15% are irregular or multiply peaked and only 10% have a core-halo structure. These results agree with the known properties of ultracompact HII regions, even though the average luminosity of the present sample is an order of magnitude lower than that in previous studies.
