- We identify a spectroscopic sequence of galaxies, analogous to the Hubble sequence of morphological types, based on the Automatic Spectroscopic K-means-based (ASK) classification. Considering galaxy spectra as multidimensional vectors, the majority of the spectral classes are distributed along a well-defined curve going from the earliest to the latest types, suggesting that the optical spectra of normal galaxies can be described in terms of a single affine parameter. Optically bright active galaxies, however, appear as an independent, roughly orthogonal branch that intersects the main sequence exactly at the transition between early and late types.

- A rich spectroscopic census of members of the local massive cluster A2029 includes 1215 members of A2029 and its two infalling groups, A2033 and the Southern Infalling Group. The two infalling groups are identified in spectroscopic, X-ray, and weak-lensing maps. We identify active galactic nuclei (AGNs), star-forming galaxies, E+A galaxies, and quiescent galaxies based on the spectroscopy. The fractions of AGN and post-starburst E+A galaxies in A2029 are similar to those of other clusters. We derive the stellar mass (M_*_)-metallicity relation of A2029 based on 227 star-forming members; A2029 members within 10^9^M_{sun}_<M_*_<10^9.5^M_{sun}_ are more metal-rich than Sloan Digital Sky Survey galaxies within the same mass range. We utilize the spectroscopic index D_n_4000, a strong age indicator, to trace past and future evolution of the A2029 system. The median D_n_4000 of the members decreases as the projected clustercentric distance increases for all three subsystems. The D_n_4000-M_*_ relations of the members in A2029 and its two infalling groups differ significantly, indicating the importance of stochastic effects for understanding the evolution of cluster galaxy populations.

- A metallicity, chemical composition, and kinematic survey has been conducted for a sample of 340 candidate field red horizontal-branch (RHB) stars. Spectra with high resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio were gathered with the McDonald Observatory 2.7 m Tull and the Hobby-Eberly Telescope echelle spectrographs, and were used to determine effective temperatures, surface gravities, microturbulent velocities, [Fe/H] metallicities, and abundance ratios [X/Fe] for seven {alpha} and Fe-group species. The derived temperatures and gravities confirm that at least half of the candidates are true RHB stars, with (average) parameters T_eff_~5000 K and log g~2.5. From the {alpha} abundances alone, the thin and thick Galactic populations are apparent in our sample. Space motions for 90% of the program stars were computed from Hipparcos and Gaia parallaxes and proper motions. Correlations between chemical compositions and Galactic kinematics clearly indicate the existence of both thin-disk and thick-disk RHB stars.

- We carried out an unbiased, spectroscopic survey using the low-resolution module of the infrared spectrograph (IRS) onboard Spitzer targeting two 2.6 square arcminute regions in the GOODS-North field. The IRS was used in a spectral mapping mode with 5hr of effective integration time per pixel. One region was covered between 14 and 21um and the other between 20 and 35um. We extracted spectra for 45 sources. About 84% of the sources have reported detections by GOODS at 24um, with a median f_{nu}_(24um)~100uJy. All but one source are detected in all four IRAC bands, 3.6 to 8um. We use a new cross-correlation technique to measure redshifts and estimate IRS spectral types; this was successful for ~60% of the spectra. Fourteen sources show significant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emission, four mostly SiO absorption, eight present mixed spectral signatures (low PAH and/or SiO) and two show a single line in emission. For the remaining 17, no spectral features were detected. Redshifts range from z~0.2 to z~2.2, with a median of 1. IR luminosities are roughly estimated from 24um flux densities, and have median values of 2.2x10^11^L_{sun}_ and 7.5x10^11^L_{sun}_ at z~1 and z~2, respectively. This sample has fewer active galactic nuclei than previous faint samples observed with the IRS, which we attribute to the fainter luminosities reached here.

- Among the six atoms of N-containing molecules with the formula of CH_3_NO, only formamide (H_2_NCHO), the most stable structural isomer, has been detected in the interstellar medium (ISM). The formaldoxime isomer may be formed, for example, by the reaction of formaldehyde (H_2_CO) or methanimine (H_2_CNH) and hydroxylamine (H_2_NOH), which are all detected in the ISM. The lack of high accuracy millimeter- and submillimeter-wave measurements hinders the astronomical search for formaldoxime. The aim of this work is to provide the direct laboratory measurement of the millimeter- and submillimeter-wave spectrum of trans-formaldoxime. Formaldoxime was synthesized and its rotational spectrum was recorded at room temperature in a glass flow cell using the millimeter- and submillimeter-wave spectrometer in Lille. The SPFIT program in the CALPGM suite was used to fit the spectrum. Rotational lines of trans-formaldoxime from both the ground state and v_12_=1 vibrational excited states have been measured and assigned from 150 to 660GHz. Spectroscopic constants were derived to the tenth order using both Watson's A and S reduction Hamiltonian.

- Asteroids are used as far-IR calibrators for the imaging photopolarimeter ISOPHOT on board the Infrared Space Observatory ISO. For the 10 selected objects we compiled a large uniform database of 678 individual observations, ranging from 7-2000{mu}m. Applying a new thermophysical model to the observations we derived thermal properties of the selected asteroids, based on spin-vector solutions, direct size measurements and the HG-magnitude system. Our investigations indicate very rough surfaces, reflected in the beaming effect, and very low levels of heat conduction, expressed in thermal inertias between 5 and 25J/m^2^/s^0.5^/K. Due to scattering processes in the porous regolith, the emissivity varies significantly with wavelength. In case of Vesta we find emissivities as low as 0.6 in the far-IR/submillimetre region. By entering the combined results into the thermophysical model we defined new photometric standards for the far-IR. The absolute accuracy for thermal flux or lightcurve predictions is 5-10% for the first category objects and 10-20% for the secondaries. The methods and procedures discussed here are included in the first update of the ISOPHOT calibration in 1998.

- We present an analysis of the {delta}-Scuti star HD 174936 (ID 7613) observed by CoRoT during the first short run SRc01 (27 days). A total number of 422 frequencies were extracted from the light curve using standard prewhitening techniques. This number of frequencies was obtained by considering a spectral significance limit of sig=10 using the software package SigSpec. Our analysis of the oscillation frequency spectrum reveals a spacing periodicity around 52muHz. Although modes considered here are not in the asymptotic regime, a comparison with stellar models confirms that this signature may stem from a quasi-periodic pattern similar to the so-called large separation in solar-like stars.

- The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Treasury Program Advanced Spectral Library Project: Cool Stars was designed to collect representative, high-quality UV spectra of eight evolved F-M type cool stars. The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) echelle spectra of these objects enable investigations of a broad range of topics, including stellar and interstellar astrophysics. This paper provides a guide to the spectra of the two evolved M stars, the M2 Iab supergiant {alpha}Ori and the M3.4 giant {gamma}Cru, with comparisons to the prototypical K1.5 giant {alpha}Boo. It includes identifications of the significant atomic and molecular emission and absorption features and discusses the character of the photospheric and chromospheric continua and line spectra. The fluorescent processes responsible for a large portion of the emission-line spectrum, the characteristics of the stellar winds, and the available diagnostics for hot and cool plasmas are also summarized. This analysis will facilitate the future study of the spectra, outer atmospheres, and winds, not only of these objects but of numerous other cool, low-gravity stars, for years to come.

- We present results of high-resolution (~55000) spectral observations of 830 photometrically pre-selected candidate red giants in the magnitude range of V=9-12. We develop a pipeline for automated determination of the stellar atmospheric parameters from these spectra and estimate Teff, logg, [Fe/H], microturbulence velocity, and projected rotational velocities, vsin i, for the stars. The analysis confirms that the candidate selection procedure yielded red giants with very high success rate. We show that most of these stars are G and K giants with slightly subsolar metallicity ([Fe/H]~-0.3dex). An analysis of Mg abundances in the sample results in consistency of the [Mg/Fe] vs [Fe/H] trend with published results.
