- CCD time-series observations of the central region of the globular cluster NGC 3201 were obtained with the aim of performing the Fourier decomposition of the light curves of the RR Lyrae stars present in that field. This procedure gave the mean values, for the metallicity, of [Fe/H]_ZW_=-1.483+/-0.006 (statistical) +/-0.090 (systematical), and for the distance, 5.000+/-0.001kpc (statistical) +/-0.220 (systematical). The values found from two RRc stars are consistent with those derived previously. The differential reddening of the cluster was investigated and individual reddenings for the RR Lyrae stars were estimated from their V-I curves. We found an average value of E(B-V)=0.23+/-0.02. An investigation of the light curves of stars in the blue stragglers region led to the discovery of three new SX Phe stars. The period-luminosity relation of the SX Phe stars was used for an independent determination of the distance to the cluster and of the individual reddenings. We found a distance of 5.0kpc

- We report R- and V-band photometry derived from CCD imaging for objects in nine fields in and around the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. The most distant fields are about 1.3{deg} from the center. We use these data to search for Draco stars outside of its measured tidal boundary. The search involves three methods: (1) plotting color-magnitude diagrams for individual fields, for sections of fields, and for combined fields and sections - a colour-magnitude diagram can reveal a population of Draco stars by the presence of the expected principal sequences; (2) measuring field-to-field fluctuations in the surface density of objects located near the Draco principal sequences in the color-magnitude diagram; (3) measuring intrafield fluctuations in the surface density of those objects. We find evidence for the presence of Draco stars immediately beyond the measured tidal boundary of Draco and place an upper limit on the number of such stars in more distant fields that lie close to the extension of its major axis. The best evidence is the presence of the Draco principal sequences in the color-magnitude diagram for some combined fields and sections of fields. The measurements of the field-to-field fluctuations in the stellar surface density confirm this result.

- This article studies the structure of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy, with an emphasis on the question of whether the spatial distribution of its stars has been affected by the tidal interaction with the Milky Way, using R- and V-band CCD photometry for 11 fields that are located in and around the Draco galaxy. 9 fields are in common with Piatek et al. (J/AJ/121/841); two additional fields, N1 and S1, are adjacent to the central C0 field studied by Piatek et al. in the north and south dire ctions, respectively, and extend beyond the tidal boundary along the minor axis. hese additional fields were imaged with the KPNO 0.9 m telescope using the 2048x2048 T2KA CCD chip. The article reports coordinates for the center, a position angle of the major axis, and the ellipticity. It also reports the results of searches for asymmetries in the structure of Draco. These results and searches for a "break" in the radial profile and for the presence of principal sequences of Draco in a color-magnitude diagram for regions more than 50' from the center yield no evidence that tidal forces from the Milky Way have affected the structure of Draco.

- We present a deep optical/near-infrared imaging survey of the Serpens molecular cloud. This survey constitutes the complementary optical data to the Spitzer "Core To Disk" (c2d) Legacy survey in this cloud. The survey was conducted using the Wide Field Camera at the Isaac Newton Telescope. About 0.96 square degrees were imaged in the R and Z filters, covering the entire region where most of the young stellar objects identified by the c2d survey are located. 26524 point-like sources were detected in both R and Z bands down to R=24.5mag and Z=23mag with a signal-to-noise ratio better than 3. The 95% completeness limit of our catalog corresponds to 0.04 solar masses for members of the Serpens star forming region (age 2Myr and distance 260pc) in the absence of extinction. Adopting the typical extinction of the observed area (Av=7mag), we estimate a 95% completeness level down to 0.1 solar masses. The astrometric accuracy of our catalog is 0.4-arcsec with respect to the 2MASS catalog. Our final catalog contains J2000 celestial coordinates, magnitudes in the R and Z bands calibrated to the SDSS photometric system and, where possible, JHK magnitudes from 2MASS for sources in 0.96 square degrees in the direction of Serpens. This data product has been already used within the frame of the c2d Spitzer Legacy Project analysis in Serpens to study the star/disk formation and evolution in this cloud; here we use it to obtain new indications of the disk-less population in Serpens.

- We present V,I deep CCD photometry for three fields of the dwarf galaxy in Sagittarius (Sgr), located at l=5.6{deg}, b=-14.1{deg}. One of the fields is centered on the globular cluster NGC 6715 (M54), which lies in one of the dense clumps of the Sgr galaxy. Comparing the CMD of Sgr with those of globular clusters which are believed to be kinematically associated with the dwarf galaxy (Da Costa & Armandroff, 1995AJ....109.2533D), we conclude that the stellar population of Sgr presents a spread in metallicity of -0.71<=[Fe/H]<=-1.58, and that the dominant population (=~10Gyr old) is extremely similar to the star content of the associated globular cluster Terzan 7. The estimated distance to Sgr is d=~24.55Kpc.

- We studied the accretion disc structure in the doubly imaged lensed quasar SDSS J1339+1310 using r-band light curves and UV-visible to near-IR spectra from the first 11 observational seasons after its discovery. The 2009-2019 light curves displayed pronounced microlensing variations on different timescales, and this microlensing signal permitted us to constrain the half-light radius of the 1930{AA} continuum-emitting region. Assuming an accretion disc with an axis inclined at 60{deg} to the line of sight, we obtained log(r_1/2_/cm)=15.4_-0.4+^+0.93%. We also estimated the central black hole mass from spectroscopic data. The width of the CIV, MgII, and H{beta} emission lines, and the continuum luminosity at 1350, 3000, and 5100{AA}, led to log(M_BH_/M_{sun}_)=8.6+/-0.4. Thus, hot gas responsible for the 1930{AA} continuum emission is likely orbiting a 4.0x10^8^M_{sun}_ black hole at an r_1/2_ of only a few tens of Schwarzschild radii.

- The objective of this work is to obtain an extinction-corrected distribution of optical surface brightness and colour indices of the large nearby galaxy M31 using homogeneous observational data and a model for intrinsic extinction. We process the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) images in ugriz passbands and construct corresponding mosaic images, taking special care of subtracting the varying sky background. We apply the galactic model developed in Tempel et al. (2010A&A...509A..91T) and far-infrared imaging to correct the photometry for intrinsic dust effects. We obtain observed and dust-corrected distributions of the surface brightness of M31 and a map of line-of-sight extinctions inside the galaxy. Our extinction model suggests that either M31 is intrinsically non-symmetric along the minor axis or the dust properties differ from those of the Milky Way. Assuming the latter case, we present the surface brightness distributions and integral photometry for the Sloan filters as well as the standard UBVRI system.
