- Galactic open clusters (OCs) mainly belong to the young stellar population in the Milky Way disk, but are there groups and complexes of OCs that possibly define an additional level in hierarchical star formation? Current compilations are too incomplete to address this question, especially regarding radial velocities (RVs) and metallicities ([M/H]). Here we provide and discuss newly obtained RV and [M/H] data, which will enable us to reinvestigate potential groupings of open clusters and associations.

- We have used published, high-accuracy, ground-based and satellite proper-motion measurements, a compilation of radial velocities, and photometric distances to compute the spatial velocities and Galactic orbital elements for 174 RR Lyrae (ab) variable stars in the solar neighborhood. The computed orbital elements and published heavy-element abundances are used to study relationships between the chemical, spatial, and kinematic characteristics of nearby RR Lyrae variables. We observe abrupt changes of the spatial and kinematic characteristics at the metallicity [Fe/H]~-0.95 and also when the residual spatial velocities relative to the LSR cross the critical value V_res_~290km/s.

- We have reconstructed the galactic orbits of the parent stars of exoplanets. For comparison, we have recalculated the galactic orbits of stars from the Edvardsson et al. (1993, Cat. <J/A+A/275/101>) catalog. A comparison between the two samples indicates that stars with planets are not kinematically peculiar. At each perigalactic distance stars with planets have a metallicity systematically larger than the average for the comparison sample. We argue that this result favors scenarios where the presence of planets is the cause of the higher metallicity of stars with planets.

- We employ optical photometry and high-resolution spectroscopy to study a field toward the open cluster Tombaugh 1, where we identify a complex population mixture that we describe in terms of young and old Galactic thin disks. Of particular interest is the spatial distribution of the young population, which consists of dwarfs with spectral types as early as B6 and is distributed in a blue plume feature in the color-magnitude diagram. For the first time, we confirm spectroscopically that most of these stars are early-type stars and not blue stragglers or halo/thick-disk subdwarfs. Moreover, they are not evenly distributed along the line of sight but crowd at heliocentric distances between 6.6 and 8.2 kpc. We compare these results with present-day understanding of the spiral structure of the Galaxy and suggest that they trace the outer arm. This range of distances challenges current Galactic models adopting a disk cutoff at 14 kpc from the Galactic center. The young dwarfs overlap in space with an older component, which is identified as an old Galactic thin disk. Both young and old populations are confined in space since the disk is warped at the latitude and longitude of Tombaugh 1. The main effects of the warp are that the line of sight intersects the disk and entirely crosses it at the outer arm distance and that there are no traces of the closer Perseus arm, which would then be either unimportant in this sector or located much closer to the formal Galactic plane. Finally, we analyze a group of giant stars, which turn out to be located at very different distances and to possess very different chemical properties, with no obvious relation to the other populations.

- We use an extended and homogeneous data set of Galactic planetary nebulae (PNe) to study the metallicity gradients and the Galactic structure and evolution. The most up-to-date abundances, distances (calibrated with Magellanic Cloud PNe), and other parameters have been employed, together with a novel homogeneous morphological classification, to characterize the different PN populations. We studied the {alpha}-element distribution within the Galactic disk, and found that the best selected disk population (i.e., excluding bulge and halo component), together with the most reliable PN distance scale yields to a radial oxygen gradient of {Delta}log(O/H)/{Delta}R_G_=-0.023+/-0.006dex/kpc for the whole disk sample, and of {Delta}log(O/H)/{Delta}R_G_=-0.035+/-0.024, -0.023+/-0.005, and -0.011+/-0.013dex/kpc, respectively for Type I, II, and III PNe, i.e., for high-, intermediate-, and low-mass progenitors. We also extend the Galactic metallicity gradient comparison by revisiting the open cluster [Fe/H] data from high resolution spectroscopy.

- We perform an extensive test of theoretical stellar models for main-sequence (MS) stars in ugriz, using cluster fiducial sequences obtained in the previous paper of this series. We generate a set of isochrones using the Yale Rotating Evolutionary Code with updated input physics, and derive magnitudes and colors in ugriz from MARCS model atmospheres. These models match cluster MSs over a wide range of metallicity within the errors of the adopted cluster parameters. However, we find a large discrepancy of model colors at the lower MS (T_eff_<~4500K) for clusters at and above solar metallicity. We also reach similar conclusions using the theoretical isochrones of Girardi et al. and Dotter et al., but our new models are generally in better agreement with the data. Using our theoretical isochrones, we also derive MS-fitting distances and turnoff ages for five key globular clusters, and demonstrate the ability to derive these quantities from photometric data in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. In particular, we exploit multiple color indices (g-r, g-i, and g-z) in the parameter estimation, which allows us to evaluate internal systematic errors. Our distance estimates, with an error of {sigma}_(m-M)_=0.03-0.11mag for individual clusters, are consistent with Hipparcos-based subdwarf-fitting distances derived in the Johnson-Cousins or Stromgren photometric systems.

- To compare the chemistries of stars in the Milky Way dwarf spheroidal (dSph) satellite galaxies with stars in the Galaxy, we have compiled a large sample of Galactic stellar abundances from the literature. When kinematic information is available, we have assigned the stars to standard Galactic components through Bayesian classification based on Gaussian velocity ellipsoids. As found in previous studies, the [{alpha}/Fe] ratios of most stars in the dSph galaxies are generally lower than similar metallicity Galactic stars in this extended sample.

- The objective of this work is the determination of the age of the Galactic disk using Th/Eu nucleocosmochronology. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to obtain the abundances of Th and Eu through spectral synthesis, and to perform the synthesis it is necessary to know the atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances of contaminating elements.
