- The aim of this work is to study the capacity of the uvby H_{beta}_ system for detecting the chemically peculiar (CP) stars based on the effect that peculiar features in the flux distribution have on all the Stroemgren-Crawford indices. Our study focuses on the classical magnetic peculiar stars (CP2), though Am star s (CP1) are also included for comparison with cool CP2 stars. Satisfactory results were obtained for hot CP2 stars: the definition of a new index p, which is a linear combination of uvby H_{beta}_ colours, allowed us to separate a high percentage of hot CP2 stars from normal stars. According to this new index, 60 new CP2 candidates are proposed. The working sample was extracted from The General Catalogue of Ap and Am stars by Renson et al. (1991, Cat. <III/162>). Photometric observations to enlarge the sample of CP2 stars with complete uvby H_{beta}_ photometry were carried out. These observations are also reported in the present paper. The new index p is also used to correct the reddening of early CP2 stars computed as if they were normal stars.

- We have selected spectra of 232 stars from the IUE archives for inclusion in an atlas intended for various uses but tailored especially for the study of stellar winds. The atlas covers the range in spectral types from O3 to F8. The full atlas covers the reduced and normalized high resolution spectra from the IUE long- and short-wavelength spectrographs. Here we discuss the selection of the stars and the data reduction, and we present in velocity units the profiles of lines formed in the stellar winds. The selected lines cover a wide range of ionizations, allowing a comparison of the profiles from different ions in the wind of each star and a comparison of the different wind lines as a function of spectral type and luminosity. We also present the basic data on the program stars to facilitate study of the dependence of wind features on stellar parameters such as luminosity, temperature, escape velocity, and v sin i. We provide an overview of the characteristic behavior of the wind lines in the H-R diagram. The complete spectra are available in digital form through the NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS). We offer a description of the electronic database that is available through the ADS and guidelines for obtaining access to that database.

- We present projected rotational velocities for 20 early-type (B8-A9) and 74 late-type (F2-M8) members of the ~5 Myr old Upper Scorpius OB Association derived from high-dispersion optical spectra obtained with the High Resolution Echelle Spectrometer on Keck I and the Magellan Inamori Kyocera Echelle on the Magellan Clay telescope. The spectroscopic sample is composed of stars and brown dwarfs with infrared signatures of circumstellar disks, both primordial and debris, and non-excess sources of comparable spectral type. We merge projected rotational velocities, accretion diagnostics, and Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera and Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer 24 {mu}m photometry to examine the relationship between rotation and circumstellar disks. The rotational velocities are strongly correlated with spectral type, a proxy for mass, such that the median vsin i for B8-A9-type stars is: 195+/-70km/s, F2-K4: 37.8+/-7.4km/s, K5-K9: 13.8^+21.3^_-8.2_km/s, M0-M5: 16.52+/-5.3km/s, and M5.5-M8: 17.72+/-8.1km/s. We find with a probability of >=0.99 that M-type stars and brown dwarfs having infrared excess suggestive of circumstellar disks rotate more slowly than their non-excess counterparts. A similar correlation is present among F2-K9-type stars, but only at the ~97% confidence level. Among the early-type (B8-A9) members, rotational velocities of the debris-disk and non-disk populations are indistinguishable. Considering the late-type (F2-M8) stars and brown dwarfs, we find a low fraction of slowly rotating, non-excess sources relative to younger star-forming regions, suggesting that most have spun up following disk dissipation. The few late-type (F2-M5) debris disk sources, which may be representative of stars that have recently dispersed their inner disks, are evenly divided between slow and moderate rotators.

- The rapid variable star, {epsilon} Per (B0.5 IV-III), displays the largest amplitude profile fluctuations known among the growing number of massive, spectrum-variable stars. Here we present an analysis of a continuous 5 day run of IUE UV spectroscopy, and we show for the first time that the systematic, blue-to-red moving patterns observed in high-quality optical spectra are also present in the UV photospheric lines. We present cross-correlation functions of the individual spectra with that of a narrow-lined standard that produce a high signal-to-noise ratio representation of the blue-to-red moving bump patterns found in individual lines. We then use time series analysis methods to determine the periodic components of the profile variations (after reregistering the spectra to correct for binary motion). There are at least six periods present (ranging from 8.46 to 2.27 hr), and most of these signals are also found in optical line variations observed in 1986 (although the relative amplitudes have changed significantly). Furthermore, analysis of a shorter time series of IUE spectra from 1984 shows that similar periods were present then. We also present H{alpha} and He I 6678 profiles obtained with the Georgia State University Multi-Telescope Telescope, which were made simultaneously with IUE, and we show that the profile variations are essentially identical in the UV and optical ranges.

- In recent years a significant development has become evident in the study of the stellar structure of the Galactic disk. This is especially true for the 3rd Galactic quadrant, where the stellar population was extensively investigated beyond 10kpc, revealing details about the warped geometry of the thin and thick disks and outer arm. The 4th Galactic quadrant offers even better opportunity to follow the distribution of the young stellar populace to a large distance, since the line of sight is parallel to the largest single segment of a spiral arm seen from our position in the Galaxy: the Carina spiral feature. This paper further contributes to the study of the structure of the Galactic disk in the direction of Carina field utilizing homogeneous photometric distances of a sample of about 600 bright early-type stars seen in this direction up to 6kpc. The derived stellar distances are based on uvby{beta} photometry. All O and B type stars with uvby{beta} data presently available are included in the study.

- We present Stroemgren uvby and H_{beta}_ photometry for a set of 575 northern main sequence A type stars, most of them belonging to the Hipparcos Input Catalogue, with V from 5mag to 10mag and with known radial velocities. These observations enlarge the catalogue we began to compile some years ago to more than 1500 stars. Our catalogue includes kinematic and astrophysical data for each star. Our future goal is to perform an accurate analysis of the kinematical behaviour of these stars in the solar neighbourhood.

- The {beta} Cephei stars and slowly pulsating B (SPB) stars are massive main sequence variables. The strength of their pulsational driving strongly depends on the opacity of iron-group elements. As many of those stars naturally occur in young open clusters, whose metallicities can be determined in several fundamental ways, it is logical to study the incidence of pulsation in several young open clusters. To provide the foundation for such an investigation, Stroemgren-Crawford uvby{beta} photometry of open cluster target stars was carried out to determine effective temperatures, luminosities, and therefore cluster memberships. In the course of three observing runs, uvby{beta} photometry for 168 target stars was acquired and transformed into the standard system by measurements of 117 standard stars. The list of target stars also included some known cluster and field {beta} Cephei stars, as well as {beta} Cephei and SPB candidates that are targets of the asteroseismic part of the Kepler satellite mission. The uvby{beta} photometric results are presented. The data are shown to be on the standard system, and the properties of the target stars are discussed: 140 of these are indeed OB stars, a total of 101 targets lie within the {beta} Cephei and/or SPB star instability strips, and each investigated cluster contains such potential pulsators. These measurements will be taken advantage of in a number of subsequent publications.

- Differential Stroemgren uvby photometric observations from the Four College Automated Photoelectric Telescope are presented for four magnetic chemically peculiar stars. Comparison with uvby photometry of Pedersen & Thomsen for HD 37776 yields an improved period of 1.538675 days. New periods of 15.0305 days and 18.065 days are found for the sharp-lined stars HR 2258 and HR 6958, respectively, rather than one of their aliases. For HR 6958 each color shows a slightly different time of maximum. Comparison of the four color photometry of 108 Aqr taken during the fall of 1995 which well covers the period shows the presence of a secondary minimum near primary maximum in u, v, and b. Comparison with published photometry indicates indicates that subtle changes in the shapes of the light curves have occurred suggesting that this star might be precessing.

- The far-ultraviolet (FUV; 912-1700 {AA}) radiation field from accreting central stars in classical T Tauri systems influences the disk chemistry during the period of giant planet formation. The FUV field may also play a critical role in determining the evolution of the inner disk (r<10 AU), from a gas- and dust-rich primordial disk to a transitional system where the optically thick warm dust distribution has been depleted. Previous efforts to measure the true stellar+accretion-generated FUV luminosity (both hot gas emission lines and continua) have been complicated by a combination of low-sensitivity and/or low-spectral resolution and did not include the contribution from the bright Ly{alpha} emission line. In this work, we present a high-resolution spectroscopic study of the FUV radiation fields of 16 T Tauri stars whose dust disks display a range of evolutionary states. We include reconstructed Ly{alpha} line profiles and remove atomic and molecular disk emission (from H_2_ and CO fluorescence) to provide robust measurements of both the FUV continuum and hot gas lines (e.g., Ly{alpha}, N V, C IV, He II) for an appreciable sample of T Tauri stars for the first time. We find that the flux of the typical classical T Tauri star FUV radiation field at 1 AU from the central star is ~10^7^ times the average interstellar radiation field. The Ly{alpha} emission line contributes an average of 88% of the total FUV flux, with the FUV continuum accounting for an average of 8%. Both the FUV continuum and Ly{alpha} flux are strongly correlated with C IV flux, suggesting that accretion processes dominate the production of both of these components. On average, only ~0.5% of the total FUV flux is emitted between the Lyman limit (912 {AA}) and the H_2_(0-0) absorption band at 1110 {AA}. The total and component-level high-resolution radiation fields are made publicly available in machine-readable format.
