- Description:
- Although the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) primary mission observed the northern and southern ecliptic hemispheres, generally avoiding the ecliptic, and the Kepler space telescope during the K2 mission could only observe near the ecliptic, many of the K2 fields extend far enough from the ecliptic plane that sections overlap with TESS fields. Using photometric observations from both K2 and TESS, combined with archival spectroscopic observations, we globally modeled four known planetary systems discovered by K2 that were observed in the first year of the primary TESS mission. Specifically, we provide updated ephemerides and system parameters for K2-114b, K2-167b, K2-237b, and K2-261b. These were some of the first K2 planets to be observed by TESS in the first year and include three Jovian sized planets and a sub-Neptune with orbital periods less than 12 days. In each case, the updated ephemeris significantly reduces the uncertainty in prediction of future times of transit, which is valuable for planning observations with the James Webb Space Telescope and other future facilities. The TESS extended mission is expected to observe about half of the K2 fields, providing the opportunity to perform this type of analysis on a larger number of systems.

- LAMOST DR3 very metal-poor stars of the Galactic halo

- Description:
- We search for dynamical substructures in the LAMOST DR3 very metal-poor (VMP) star catalog. After cross-matching with Gaia DR2, there are ~3300 VMP stars with available high-quality astrometric information that have halo-like kinematics. We apply a method based on the self-organizing map StarGO to find groups clustered in the 4D space of orbital energy and angular momentum. We identify 57 dynamically tagged groups (DTGs), which we label DTG-1 to DTG-57. Most of them belong to existing massive substructures in the nearby halo, such as the Gaia Sausage or Sequoia. The stream identified by Helmi+ (1999Natur.402...53H) is recovered, but the two disjointed portions of the substructure appear to have distinct dynamical properties. The very retrograde substructure Rg5 found previously by Myeong+ (2018MNRAS.478.5449M) is also retrieved. We report six new DTGs with highly retrograde orbits, two with very prograde orbits, and 12 with polar orbits. By mapping other data sets (APOGEE halo stars, and catalogs of r-process-enhanced and carbon-enhanced metal-poor [CEMP] stars) onto the trained neuron map, we can associate stars with detailed chemical abundances with the DTGs and look for associations with chemically peculiar stars. The highly eccentric Gaia Sausage groups contain representatives of both debris from the satellite itself (which is {alpha}-poor) and the Splashed Disk, sent up into eccentric halo orbits from the encounter (and which is {alpha}-rich). The new prograde substructures also appear to be associated with the Splashed Disk. The DTGs belonging to the Gaia Sausage host two relatively metal-rich r-II stars and six CEMP stars in different subclasses, consistent with the idea that the Gaia Sausage progenitor is a massive dwarf galaxy. Rg5 is dynamically associated with two highly r-process-enhanced stars with [Fe/H]~-3. This finding indicates that its progenitor might be an ultrafaint dwarf galaxy that has experienced r-process enrichment from neutron star mergers.

- Description:
- Rotation is a critical physical process operating in the formation of Am stars. There is a strong correlation between low-velocity rotation and chemical peculiarity. However, the existence of many non-chemical-peculiar slow rotators challenges the understanding of Am stars. The purpose of our work is to search for low-velocity rotating non-chemical-peculiar A-type stars and Am stars and to make a comparative analysis. In this paper, we pick out a sample from the LAMOST-Kepler project, including 21 Am stars, 125 non-chemical-peculiar slow rotators, and 53 non-chemical-peculiar fast rotators. We calculate the rotational frequencies through a periodic change of light curves caused by inhomogeneous stellar surfaces and then obtain the rotational velocities. For slow rotators, the age of Am stars is statistically younger than that of non-chemical-peculiar stars in the same temperature bin. In the comparison of the period, the average amplitude, and stellar mass of Am and non-chemical-peculiar stars, we discover that there is no difference in the photometric variability between Am and non-chemical-peculiar stars, which implies similar inhomogeneities on the surfaces. The average amplitude of non-chemical-peculiar stars has a downward trend with the increase of effective temperature and stellar mass, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction caused by weak dynamo-generated magnetic fields in A-type stars. In addition, we confirm four non-chemical-peculiar stars that have flares by checking field-of-view images, pixel images, and pixel-level light curves.

- Light element abundances of RGB & AGB stars in M10
- Short Name:

- Date:

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- We present CN and CH band measurements for 137 red giant branch (RGB) and asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in the Galactic globular cluster M10. Our measurements come from low-resolution spectroscopy taken with the Hydra spectrograph on the WIYN-3.5 m telescope. We use these measurements to identify two populations of stars within the cluster, CN-normal and CN-enhanced, and find that in our sample 60% of stars are CN-enhanced. Our large sample allows us to conduct a detailed analysis on the carbon and nitrogen abundances and the radial distribution of each population separately. Our analysis of the radial dependence shows that each population has the same radial distribution in the cluster, which is likely due to the cluster being dynamically evolved. We also compare our results to other methods of classifying multiple populations in globular clusters such as the Na-O anti-correlation and the HST pseudo-color-magnitude diagrams. We find that these three methods of identifying multiple populations are in good agreement with each other for M10 and all lead to an estimate of the fraction of second-generation stars approximately equal to 60%. Among AGB stars, when classified by the CN band, there appears to be a lack of second-generation stars when compared to the RGB stars. However, when classified by [N/Fe], we find a similar 60% of AGB stars in the second generation. Finally, we use the measured carbon and nitrogen abundances in RGB stars to study the change of each element with magnitude as stars evolve up the RGB, comparing the results to globular clusters of similar metallicity, M3 and M13.

- LMC blue supergiants spectroscopic observations

- Description:
- High-quality spectra of 90 blue supergiant stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud are analyzed with respect to effective temperature, gravity, metallicity, reddening, extinction, and extinction law. An average metallicity, based on Fe and Mg abundances, relative to the Sun of [Z]=-0.35+/-0.09 dex is obtained. The reddening distribution peaks at E(B-V)=0.08 mag, but significantly larger values are also encountered. A wide distribution of the ratio of extinction to reddening is found ranging from R_V_=2 to 6. The results are used to investigate the blue supergiant relationship between flux-weighted gravity, g_F_=g/T_eff_^4^, and absolute bolometric magnitude M_bol_. The existence of a tight relationship, the Flux-weighted Gravity-Luminosity Relationship (FGLR), is confirmed. However, in contrast to previous work, the observations reveal that the FGLR is divided into two parts with a different slope. For flux-weighted gravities larger than 1.30 dex, the slope is similar to that found in previous work, but the relationship becomes significantly steeper for smaller values of the flux-weighted gravity. A new calibration of the FGLR for extragalactic distance determinations is provided.

- Low-mass stars evolutionary tracks & isochrones
- Short Name:
- J/A+AS/141/371
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- These files contain a large database of stellar models that are suitable to modelling star clusters and galaxies by means of population synthesis. They are based on a large grid of stellar evolutionary tracks for the initial chemical compositions [Z=0.0004, Y=0.23], [Z=0.001, Y=0.23], [Z=0.004, Y=0.24], [Z=0.008, Y=0.25], [Z=0.019, Y=0.273] (solar composition), and [Z=0.03, Y=0.30]. Tracks are computed with updated opacities and equation of state, and a moderate amount of convective overshoot. The range of initial masses goes from 0.15M_{sun}_ to 7M_{sun}_, and the evolutionary phases extend from the zero age main sequence (ZAMS) till either the thermally pulsing AGB regime or carbon ignition. We also present an additional set of models with solar composition, computed using the classical Schwarzschild's criterion for convective boundaries. From all these models, we derive: (1) Tables with the main quantities that characterize the stellar structure along the evolutionary tracks; (2) tables of surface chemical composition after the first and second dredge-up events; (3) extended theoretical isochrones in the Johnson-Cousins UBVRIJHK broad-band photometric system, together with summary tables; (4) integrated colours of single-burst stellar populations.

- Low-mass stars from the first two TESS sectors
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/158/81

- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- Continuous data releases throughout the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) primary mission will provide unique opportunities for the exoplanet community at large to contribute to maximizing TESS's scientific return via the discovery and validation of transiting planets. This paper introduces our independent pipeline for the detection of periodic transit events along with the results of its inaugural application to the recently released 2 minute light curves of low-mass stars from the first two TESS sectors. The stellar parameters within our sample are refined using precise parallax measurements from the Gaia DR2 (Cat. I/345), which reduce the number of low-mass stars in our sample relative to those listed in the TESS Input Catalog. In lieu of the follow-up observations required to confirm or refute the planetary nature of transit-like signals, a validation of transit-like events flagged by our pipeline is performed statistically. The resulting vetted catalog contains eight probable blended eclipsing binaries, eight known TOIs, plus seven new planet candidates (PCs) smaller than 4 Earth radii. This work demonstrates the ability of our pipeline to detect sub-Neptune-sized PCs, which to date represent some of the most attractive targets for future atmospheric characterization via transmission or thermal emission spectroscopy and for radial velocity efforts aimed at the completion of the TESS level one requirement to deliver 50 planets smaller than 4 Earth radii with measured masses.

- Low-mass stars in 25 Ori group and Orion OB1a
- Short Name:
- J/AJ/154/14
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- The Orion OB1a sub-association is a rich low-mass star (LMS) region. Previous spectroscopic studies have confirmed 160 LMSs in the 25 Orionis stellar group (25 Ori), which is the most prominent overdensity of Orion OB1a. Nonetheless, the current census of the 25 Ori members is estimated to be lower than 50% complete, leaving a large number of members to be still confirmed. We retrieved 172 low-resolution stellar spectra in Orion OB1a observed as ancillary science in the SDSS-III/BOSS survey, for which we classified their spectral types and determined physical parameters. To determine memberships, we analyzed the H{alpha} emission, LiI{lambda}6708 absorption, and NaI{lambda}{lambda}8183,8195 absorption as youth indicators in stars classified as M type. We report 50 new LMSs spread across the 25 Orionis, ASCC18, and ASCC20 stellar groups with spectral types from M0 to M6, corresponding to a mass range of 0.10{<=}m/M_{Sun}_{<=}0.58. This represents an increase of 50% in the number of known LMSs in the area and a net increase of 20% in the number of 25 Ori members in this mass range. Using parallax values from the Gaia DR1 catalog, we estimated the distances to these three stellar groups and found that they are all co-distant, at 338+/-66pc. We analyzed the spectral energy distributions of these LMSs and classified their disks into evolutionary classes. Using H-R diagrams, we found a suggestion that 25 Ori could be slightly older than the other two observed groups in Orion OB1a.

- Manganese abundances in GC & dSph galaxies
- Short Name:
- J/ApJ/891/85
- Date:
- 21 Oct 2021
- Publisher:
- CDS
- Description:
- Manganese abundances are sensitive probes of the progenitors of TypeIa supernovae (SNe Ia). In this work, we present a catalog of manganese abundances in dwarf spheroidal satellites of the Milky Way, measured using medium-resolution spectroscopy. Using a simple chemical evolution model, we infer the manganese yield of SNe Ia in the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy (dSph) and compare to theoretical yields. The sub-solar yield from SNIa ([Mn/Fe]_Ia_=-0.30_-0.03_^+0.03^ at [Fe/H]=-1.5dex, with negligible dependence on metallicity) implies that sub-Chandrasekhar-mass (sub-MCh) white dwarf progenitors are the dominant channel of SNe Ia at early times in this galaxy, although some fraction (>~20%) of M_Ch_ Type Ia or Type Iax SNe are still needed to produce the observed yield. First-order corrections for deviations from local thermodynamic equilibrium increase the inferred [Mn/Fe]_Ia_ by as much as ~0.3dex. However, our results also suggest that the nucleosynthetic source of SNe Ia may depend on environment. In particular, we find that dSphs with extended star formation histories (Leo I, Fornax dSphs) appear to have higher [Mn/Fe] at a given metallicity than galaxies with early bursts of star formation (Sculptor dSph), suggesting that M_Ch_ progenitors may become the dominant channel of SNe Ia at later times in a galaxy's chemical evolution.
